"doesn't every phone have that" If they mean as opposed to removing batteries to charge them, built-in is certainly the norm these days. Old cell phones you'd remove batteries and charge them. Normal accessories you'd get would be a charger, two battery packs, and a wired adapter to use in place of the battery to plug into a cigarette lighter in your car. People didn't use cell phones indoors much in those days, because everyplace had land lines. They may be referring to a built-in transformer, to convert AC to DC, but that would be super weird. My guess is they meant wireless charging, and used the wrong term.

I'm thinking back to the late 90s, even then I can't remember having to remove a battery to charge it. Like that brick-like Motorola flip phone everyone had, I think the charging stand could accommodate the battery either on its own or in the phone. But maybe you're talking about even earlier than that.

They can't even make a new car. They definitely don't have the staff to build a phone unless it was some rebranded phone.

Yeah, I was thinking mid/late '80s, but on reflection, I think the chargers could charge the battery separately or charge it with the phone's base station still attached (some early cell phones used coil-corded handsets wired to the transceiver and power source).

Building a phone is easy. Pretty much every Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese company is doing it.  They're all the same boring hardware with differently shaped camera bumps. The OS is hard. Building an OS and not destroying it with self-interest seems impossible. If anyone can do it, it's not Musk.

It'll have new, innovative features like a touch screen, wireless charging, front AND rear cameras, etc. It would, essentially, just be a sharp cornered iPhone.

They certainly cannot make auto wipers that function properly.

But tricorder functionality would be coming in 18 months if you pay $10,000 for it now.

Fun fact, a LOT of tricorder functionality is actually available now, though an app on android. These little black boxes have a ton of sensors, many most people don't even realize, and there are a few free apps that utilize them all.

Most advanced feature you can buy for an additional 5k: FSC - Full Self Calling (supervised). Based on sensory input and GPS data it starts calls directly from your pocket (subject to regulatory approval).
