The whole RWD thing was embarrassing. They knocked so much tech off the thing and only eeked out $10k off the price of an AWD CT? I mean, I already have a pretty low opinion of anyone stupid enough to buy the AWD version. But getting the RWD version is just sad. It’s going to get much, much, worse for Tesla and xAI. The Tesla Board is about to get hit with a “Reservations of Rights and Rescission” letter from their D&O Carrier. Once this happens their personal assets are on the line should legal action be taken by shareholders or other parties. The directors were notified of material non public material information regarding xAI back in July. They moved forward with Musk’s stock award in August, the shareholder meeting in November to vote on investment into xAI and the $1T pay package. Filing the Form 8-K on 10/2/2025. This is securities fraud. ISS and Glass know as of last week. It’s about to get REAL BAD!
That’s the problem with EVs: two thirds of the retail price is in the Battery. You could make a 35k Cybertruck. But only with a 25 kwh battery. The rest of the „Tech“ is ultra cheap standard car parts.

We are currently in the glided age 2.0, with oligarchs having fully captured the government and regulators. No other way aa barely working death trap is allowed to roam the streets in the USA.
Unfortunately we can’t choose not to give Tesla our tax dollars, if they were subject to market forces they would have been out of business years ago. The entire auto industry depends on socialized infrastructure for the use of its products and Tesla gets to benefit from EV subsidies and carbon credits on top of all the public funding that supports the rest of the auto industry.

So much of the cost is in the battery and the absurdly overcomplex and expensive-to-make body structure. When you set those aside, there's really not that much to be gained from pulling parts out of what's left.
EV batteries are now available at <$100 kWh (OG Leaf cost about $1,000 per kWh), but hey, Tesla gonna Tesla...

Not any more, those are go e hence the " more affordable" model of the Tesla, from my perspective its desperation, grabbing for straws. The markets are at all time high levels of irrationalality! This product is the epitome of that!
I always take those numbers with a grain of salt. I know $/kWh numbers get tossed around alot...but they never match what we see with sticker prices. \- I think these $/kWh numbers apply to the cells themselves...wholesale cost to the automaker. The automaker still has to package them in a box that costs something, along with cooling systems, electronics, large cabling, motors etc. I think we can get some notion of the cost differential between powertrains by looking at BEV pickup trucks. Ford's BEV option costs around 25% more than its comparable ICE. In dollars, its $11k more...so if an ICE/transmission/fuel tank and appurtenances were relatively cheap an collectively only cost $9k, that leads towards a total BEV system cost of $20k for 98 kWh...double the $100 threshold.

Amazing that I got banned from every Tesla sub for responding to a comment that was raging over cybertruck cancellations when I responded that a 500+ mile range for $70k was a totally different ballpark than 300 mile range for $100k+. I didn’t even mention that real world usage without towing was less than half of the 500+ range and I didn’t mention what I’m going to say now which is this type of fundraising should be illegal. It was never going to hit that range and he had millions of dollars in reservations and lost 95% of them because it flopped so bad. Give me my interest back, fElon

Wasn’t the gigacasting to make it cheap to make? And the body panels don’t need stamping or painting? I figured much of the cost was having to custom make all the 48v components and all that. Oh and the steer by wire. Talk about complex.
Capitalism (in a pure sense) is about the most effective allocation of capital. This is literally a failure of capitalism. The fact that Tesla stock is still up, is more about the failure of our society. We’ve gone from a market economy to a market society.
I would buy one for 5000 dollars to act as a rolling battery pack for my home and only because I have power wall 2s and no other vehicle will integrate with those to produce power.

A project that is both an unattractive product and a public safety hazard. Would’ve been nice if that money went towards electric infrastructure like solar farms, but nah.

I saw the 8-k from Sept 2(?) 2025 talking about indemnification of directors and you're right, it does look like they refer to traditional D&O insurance in it.
Companies "announce" a lot of things. I'd want to see the actual wholesale price that people are paying. But the point stands that packaging the cells is a significant part of the cost for the battery pack as a whole. Individual automakers aren't working at the scale CATL is.
Starting a new reply, the 8-k from September 2025 says that Tesla will indemnify the directors for anything, so there's a good chance the directors aren't worried about much.

I test drove one of these for 24 hours recently. This is just a really odd vehicle. It comes at a price premium yet it lacks some of the features of teslas other "premium" models. So consumers are expected to pay more and get less? One major problem, aside from fundamental issues with the truck itself, is that the lux package is only available on the cyberbeast. This is a absolutely terrible deal. The fundamental differences between the AWD and cyber beast is very small. Thus, you really aren't actually getting much if any deal at all. Additionally, the terms on free supercharging are very nebulous, which is the highest value item in the package. If they want to move metal you’re going to need to drop price or massively increase incentives. Lux package on awd models would be a start but even that isn't enough.

Marx got some things right, but I don't think he anticipated the consumer society, the essential merger of the middle class and working class, or the rise of the computer age, virtual entertainment, AI, etc.
I noticed in the last usage stats that xAI has spiked...but it is blatantly behind any of the LLMs (even DeepSeek's free) when it comes to actual performance. It's like Musk did with twitter/x...jacked up download stats do not mean increased profitability.

I don’t really understand how they failed so hard with the CT. It doesn’t even look like a particularly impressive vehicle. Putting the style aside, it’s not technically impressive in any way. What rational person would objectively pick this over an alternative? How did it go from a $50k stylized EV truck to a $100k sack of shit? I just don’t get it. Even the demo vehicle they had at the launch was just slightly different looking and the design kind of worked for me. This thing just looks like a movie prop from the 80s tbh.
I can answer you in one word: Elon. Elon "designed" the Cybertruck. By designed, I mean he laid out the visual design and basic specs. Nearly all automobiles in the world are designed by committee, i.e., a group of people who are specialists in various areas, (though the visual style may be the work of one person in some cases, but that style is vetted by a lot of people who can say no, we can't build that). But in the case of the Cybertruck, Elon tried to do it all, because he thinks he knows better than anybody. He was the one that said it would be stainless steel, a notoriously hard material to work with and finish, basically an engineering nightmare. Stainless steel is not only expensive, it's hard to stamp into complex shapes, and fairly difficult to weld and paint compared to conventional mild steel. You have a sharp eye in noticing that the prototype was somewhat different than the production vehicle. That's because the thing couldn't be produced for a realistic price the way they built it, using bent panels and dressed welds which probably required significant hand finishing. So they went with bonded flat panels over a sub-structure, which in itself ended up being expensive to produce and led to issues with the panels falling off. So not only did he insist on a material process that was highly questionable on a mass production car, he designed something that was comically ugly and over the top, because he's by nature a troll with sophomoric tastes, and because he thinks once again that he can just ignore conventional wisdom in any area of expertise. He thinks he's a legitimate visionary genius, when he's just a really big ego with a lot of money.
