So Tesla stock will pump I’m guessing
Is BYD making profit on those sales?
BYD was still net profitable in the 2nd quarter: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/byd-quarterly-profit-down-china-103552225.html In fact, BYD has been profitable in the last several years. What lowered their profit in the 2nd quarter was that they initiated a price war in China back in May, to try to drive the other EV companies in China bankrupt, and push them out of the market. But even with the price cuts that BYD made back in May, they were still profitable (they are one of the few EV companies that are profitable in China). It's probably because they are so vertically integrated and their scale is large enough, that they can drastically cut the cost per each car they produce (they also own 8 ships, which helps to cut costs further).
Is Tesla making profit on theirs?
Yes.
To the moon.
No, what made Tesla money was selling co2 certificates to other car manufacturers. They only turned a profit when model y was selling like hot cakes a few years back. That has changed as EU market plummeted this year because of Elons unhinged behavior, doing nazi salute and supporting right wing parties in EU. Not to mention helping Trump getting elected and in the same process helping cut ev credit and any incentives to buy an ev, at the same time alienating his main customers that bought Teslas.
Well, the numbers show you're wrong. Nice rant though, I see you missed buying the bottom.

Yes, there will be hundreds of new bottoms on the way to a multi-thousand dollar stock price.

One of my neighbours has a BYD. I asked him to take me for a ride as I was thinking of buying shares. It's really nice. When they build their factory in Turkey, and start selling more into the EU, these numbers are going to get even worse. (I should mention I hold a few thousand dollars of BYD stock).
> Well, the numbers show you're wrong. Funny, there's a link to BYD financials above, but I don't see a link to Tesla's... Maybe they're making billions from the CyberTruck? I mean, it surely shows what Tesla and Elon are capable of. Or the huge upswing in sales from the new MY? Oh wait, maybe that's not the case.
The number do not show that. CO2 was pretty much their profit. Sales this quarter got a boost with credits going away but it is pretty much done now.
BYD are making some nice vehicles but they are still lacking in efficiency. 3.0mi/kWh real world for the sea lion at 2.5tons is a bit crap.
Until it will no more.
No.
It's the Profits from Robotaxi, Optimus and AI that make Musk's billions... Not the hot air at all!
I'm highly skeptical of the quality of Chinese brands. I wouldn't go anwhere near any of these cars for at least 10 years or so after they've proven themselves.
True, only time will tell as to where they end up in reliability surveys. Personally I wouldn't either unless I was leasing and didn't care about long term issues or residuals.
I'm not in the mood to beta test products. Let someone else be on the bleeding edge.
I'm old enough to remember when Made in Japan was considered junk. We've seen many countries climb the value chain over the decades and old reputations from their cheap labor history change.
Most people have used BYD products for years without knowing, they had over 80% market share on NiCd batteries. They still make batteries for phones.
Batteries and cars are not the same thing but even so maybe that explains why batteries never seem to live up to the claims.
