Tesla hikes lease prices as EV tax credit expires

praguer56 | 2025-10-02 01:11 | 154 views

Meanwhile, as Tesla pushes more people away, Hyundai has made significant price adjustments to their Ioniq 5 electric vehicles following the expiration of the federal EV tax credit on September 30, 2025. Specifically: * The **2026 Ioniq 5 models** have seen price reductions of anywhere from **$7,600 to $9,800**, depending on the trim level. The base 2026 Ioniq 5 SE Standard Range now starts at **$36,600**. The most significant cut of **$9,800** applies to both the rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the SEL trim. * For the remaining **2025 Ioniq 5 models**, Hyundai is offering a **$7,500** purchase and lease incentive that extends through the month of October.

I’ll enjoy watching Tesla implode.

I think people are going to be surprised about how much government incentives drove EV adoption. Demand is going to go utterly in the toilet. These companies are going to be sitting on thousands of unsold vehicles. They will be forced to slash prices when the buyers simply aren’t there, which is going to kill the bottom line. Companies will go under, and there won’t be bailouts this time.

Bullish. But seriously. I'm ready to see this stock price reflect reality. A PE of 250 isn't reality.

Marzatacks 2025-10-02 02:04

And in comes China to overtake the market.

praguer56 2025-10-02 02:07

That will never be allowed. Importing Chinese EVs would utterly destroy all domestic manufacturing.

Marzatacks 2025-10-02 02:11

Who said anything about domestic?

CouncilmanRickPrime 2025-10-02 02:31

Slate originally announced a $20k truck after incentives (before Trump obviously). I really wanted one. Made me realize I don't want an EV unless it's at least cheaper.

That-Whereas3367 2025-10-02 02:51

A p/e of 10 isn't reality for a carmaker.

The base price for the IQ5, not bad at all. 🫡

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-10-02 04:10

Without subsides I don’t think Tesla would be anywhere near what it is today. Hell it may have even went bankrupt. Pisses me off knowing my tax dollars went to Elon’s pocket.

torokunai 2025-10-02 04:16

I got my AWD MY for $6000 off list and $10k of gov't cash, so $40k OTD. At that price it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

torokunai 2025-10-02 04:19

Tesla was selling ice water in hell with the Model 3 & Y 2018 - 2022. Problem is that was never going to go '50% CAGR for the foreseeable future', more like Elon topped out in 2022.

New_Half_6055 2025-10-02 04:46

How "lucky" of you to get the chance to give them 40k 😂😂

ElectricalGene6146 2025-10-02 05:30

All these morons are getting bulled up on Q3 delivery numbers when everyone knows that Q4++ are going to be absolute trash.

PortlandPetey 2025-10-02 05:31

At the same time Hyundai is lowering prices on Ioniq5 and others… let’s see how this all shakes out.

mapf0000 2025-10-02 05:39

Then the stock will go up even more in Q4

ElectricalGene6146 2025-10-02 05:45

You get it.

ConkerPrime 2025-10-02 06:12

And so the stock inexplicably goes up day after day despite predicted loss of sales due to EV credit going away.

potatodrinker 2025-10-02 07:25

Yes lots of vehicles go unsold

Fuskeduske 2025-10-02 07:29

Vehicles unsold = More vehicles in stock = Company is worth more

potatodrinker 2025-10-02 07:31

Hide all the cars and Share price goes BRRRRRRR

gwenver 2025-10-02 08:06

Well. Hope you're popcorn has a long expiry, cos we've all been waiting a long time for logic to reassert itself.

JonnyBravoII 2025-10-02 09:07

Premarket, the stock is up 6 points, or about 1.5%. Yesterday it was up nearly 15 points. Now valued at $1.44 trillion, the most it's ever been worth. This makes the banking stock bubble back in 2008 look trite.

beren12 2025-10-02 10:52

A $28k new small pickup still isn’t a bad price

praguer56 2025-10-02 11:07

It's bizarre the devotion Musk gets

praguer56 2025-10-02 11:10

Roadster. I'll just leave that there.

Top_Junket2991 2025-10-02 13:03

If tesla lowers their price by 7500, wouldn't that erode all the profit thet make per car? Hyundai can sustain as volume is little and they have other cars to offset it. Kind of like how meta subsidies AI with profits from other ventures.

RuskiesInTheWarRoom 2025-10-03 10:56

Phew, finally a plan to break their sales nosedive

External-Note-2719 2025-10-06 02:10

Too many heavy hitters invested, they have to get there money out 2st before they pull the plug

External-Note-2719 2025-10-06 02:13

Yeah the P/E is over 200 between 220-250, absolutely ridiculous, completely unhinged

External-Note-2719 2025-10-06 02:14

But deliveries are up, its just a matter of time
