Tesla engineer resigns after 8 years; points to CEO Elon Musk as main reason, accuses him of ‘lying to the public, manipulating

[https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7371854385812824065/](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7371854385812824065/) "The main reason I’m leaving is that I think Elon has dealt huge damage to Tesla’s mission (and to the health of democratic institutions in several countries). Beyond that, Elon’s leadership and decision making seem seriously compromised. Given his huge (and growing, inexplicably) stake in Tesla, I can’t convince myself anymore that this is the right place to be. This is not just about politics: it’s about lying to the public, manipulating public discourse, targeting minorities and supporting climate change deniers and political forces aligned with the oil and gas industry. I think it’s fairly indisputable that the current US administration is slowing down the energy transition. Unfortunately, speed is critical if we are to avert the worst consequences of climate change."

I worked there for 2 weeks and figured this shit out lmao.

I've never worked there and have known this for 10 years.

May Tesla be the recipient of massive brain drain to the point Elon feels the pain May teslas stock hit lows enough that musk’s leveraged positions based on his tesla shares unwind in a cataclysmic destruction of 1 of the US oligarch’s wealth. Apologies to anyone else’s wealth that feels the pain but I think it would be worth it in this case, he’s that big of a monster

Sanpaku 2025-09-13 07:28

Board chair Robyn Denholm was on Bloomberg Thursday morning, claiming that the presence of Musk attracted the best engineers. No, it just attracts the engineers with far right wing politics. Everyone else who has options is fleeing elsewhere.

mrbuttsavage 2025-09-13 07:35

> Board chair Robyn Denholm was on Bloomberg Thursday morning, claiming that the presence of Musk attracted the best engineers. She earns all that money by being able to say that with a straight face.

PerfectBad2505 2025-09-13 07:35

He needed 8 years for that?

mrbuttsavage 2025-09-13 07:36

I think that's already long since started. Tesla's been zombie walking for years now. But the important thing is the stock is up.

[deleted] 2025-09-13 07:53

The brain drain started years ago. Don’t ask me how I know.

MaterialRestaurant18 2025-09-13 08:24

habfranco 2025-09-13 09:04

They only remaining good people they have is in PR and marketing. And their product is the stock.

Biotech_wolf 2025-09-13 09:38

I bet Elon supporting Trump and running DOGE was the final straw.

Hadleys158 2025-09-13 09:41

I wonder if the top engineer choice claim is still true during the last few years? I mean it may have been in the top 5 before he sided with trump, but now?

All of the employees understand the damage Elmo is doing. Most continue to work for him. Denial is a helluva drug.

SolutionWarm6576 2025-09-13 11:11

Bullish! 500 by end of week…

SolutionWarm6576 2025-09-13 11:14

Head of battery architecture. Head of software engineering. And the head of the Optimus project left a few months ago. Among others. It’s clear that Elon isn’t attracting talent. He’s losing talent. As someone else posted, this is turning out to be a massive brain drain.

PatchyWhiskers 2025-09-13 11:48

I think it has been the victim of brain drain already. The newer products are worse than the old. The rockets are exploding more. The self-driving is lagging behind Google. The robots don’t seem to be progressing very fast. If only right-wingers will work there they are cutting out at least 50% of possible workers.

PatchyWhiskers 2025-09-13 11:49

50% of the top engineers maybe… the right-wing ones…

Shag1166 2025-09-13 11:58

Musk is a rabid racist, who stokes the flames of hatred throughout the world.

Shag1166 2025-09-13 11:58

I agree!

Hadleys158 2025-09-13 12:17

It would be interesting to see what the turnover and retention rate was though, there seems to be so many startups etc that are started by ex tesla and ex spacex people.

[deleted] 2025-09-13 12:17

Can’t believe it took 8 years but good for him/her

beyerch 2025-09-13 12:28

That and having a paycheck to feed family/pay bills. Still.... with all the auotomakers having EVs, seems like they would be able to find other employment

KhunDavid 2025-09-13 12:31

I sold my Tesla stock back in January. I’m just glad I extricated myself from that ****show.

ccivtomars 2025-09-13 13:55

the Tesla board is pathetic……Tesla brand is damaged, who want a Tesla robot in your house so that Musk can see everything?

jaimi_wanders 2025-09-13 13:57

Whatever happened to Linda Yaccarino and her reputation as a luminary of the tech world? Forever tarnished as a shill and nepotism practicer. Denholm might want to think about that…

sugardaddyxyz 2025-09-13 14:12

dudee62 2025-09-13 14:28

Lol, both can be true at the same time.

ionizing_chicanery 2025-09-13 16:36

She's made hundreds of millions to billions at a job where by all indications she does basically no real work. I don't think she really cares about her reputation.

unfiltered_Rabbit01 2025-09-13 16:36

Not giving out the disengagement data so we can actually see how unsafe the cars are is what really made me hate the guy. You all should seriously check out Martin Eberhard’s recent interview. The man almost never does interviews, but when he finally spoke up, he came across super humble, the real creator of Tesla Motors. He flat-out said he never would’ve done the full self-driving thing because it’s too dangerous, especially with Tesla running no redundancies. I’ve used FSD myself. It’s insanely dangerous. The car swerved off the road multiple times, and this was on a perfectly clear day.

habfranco 2025-09-13 17:11

I didn't mean good as "good". I mean good as "efficient at was Elon is asking them to do".

kahner 2025-09-13 17:15

good for this dude, but "This is not just about politics: it’s about lying to the public, manipulating public discourse, targeting minorities and supporting climate change deniers and political forces aligned with the oil and gas industry."? What does he think politics is?

brokenkey 2025-09-13 18:01

Attracted the top recent graduates, chewed them up, and spit them out, perhaps. Same with SpaceX.

IsisTruck 2025-09-13 18:08

It took him eight years to figure out that Elon is a poison?

AbleDanger12 2025-09-13 19:16

Edolf has been a human stain for much longer than 8 years. I guess the guy got enough stock amassed.

RosieDear 2025-09-13 19:43

Unfortunately, the best engineers have always been those to the left.....it's no accident that the birthplace of the Hippie Movement, the Free Speech Movement and all the rest...is in the most liberal part of the USA.

RosieDear 2025-09-13 19:45

This assumes a complete untruth - that of top engineers and scientists being evenly split. Only 6% of Scientists and Researchers even ID as GOP. Pretty much 75% or more of those who might work there - will not.

Sanpaku 2025-09-13 19:46

Stanford, Berkeley, and Silicon Valley billionaires.

RosieDear 2025-09-13 19:46

Independent of all that BS, it's obvious to anyone looking that the company is built upon a stack of lies. Anyone who wants to accomplish things should work elsewhere.

BondGracie 2025-09-13 20:02

Good for him resigning. Tesla might have a high stock price by Musk buying the election and getting rich buddies to pump it up but Tesla is a dying brand. Just like X has a bad reputation, so he pretends to make it into an all app to hide embarrassment, Tesla will just be an AI co. Sales are down everywhere coz people dislike Musk. The only ones who respect him are the ones who want to make money off him. But he’s a brand killer. X and now Tesla. At least he’s far behind the real AI leaders.

PatchyWhiskers 2025-09-13 20:35

Exactly. Engineers skew more right than most educated people: but not much more. They’d need to dip into the ranks of incompetence to find enough professors.

torokunai 2025-09-13 20:55

I Love Tesla and its original mission. It achieve that mission I feel. But now does not know what to do next. Its leader is a nut case. They have so much potential but thier leadership are mental cases.

F-N-M-N 2025-09-13 23:43

She was not a luminary of the tech world. Of the advertising world, as much as the one related to TV ad buys, she was, but that’s it. She came from NBC and Turner Networks, selling tv shows to advertisers.

F-N-M-N 2025-09-13 23:45

I doubt she made more than $50MM. Private company that never went public and sold at an inflated price to Xai as a way for Musk to be paid out and save face, but still way under the initial valuation she likely got her options at.

[deleted] 2025-09-14 00:00

And they manipulate that in the options market…

m0nk_3y_gw 2025-09-14 01:08

> that musk’s leveraged positions based on his tesla shares unwind in a cataclysmic which positions are those? he dumped Tesla shares on the open market repeatedly to buy twitter, the final deal didn't have him take out any loans against his shares. and the stock fell to $105 and nothing happened. Even if he did, that's history - now twitter is owned by x.ai

m0nk_3y_gw 2025-09-14 01:10

The long slow drain. This started awhile ago - the head of Tesla FSD (Karpathy) left after he learned Elon impregnated his friend the Tesla AI chip lead (Shivon Zillis) with twins.

Odd_Combination_997 2025-09-14 01:54

Bullshit for years. How disgusting. Fancy giving a person a job as a chip lead who has zero expertise except at Jurvetson sex parties and buddy to Karparthy. Then expecting everyone to feel fairly treated at work and things to go well. Ffs.

savuporo 2025-09-14 02:02

> It’s clear that Elon isn’t attracting talent. It's this and that. I know a couple really good people in Silicon Valley that have specifically left other tech companies for Tesla for almost the opposite political rationale I'm guessing net-net he's still losing probably, but he certainly also has a draw

ionizing_chicanery 2025-09-14 02:54

I was talking about Denholm not Yaccarino.

Hadleys158 2025-09-14 04:16

I worked there for over a year and had to deal with him a few times, and he is a simple-minded, not smart at all, toxic entitled idiot. All he has ever done is use mommys and daddys money to buy himself into stuff and steal what others did. Only fanboys keep working there, and even some i know left a while ago, so yeah, he is disgusting.

Odd_Combination_997 2025-09-14 08:49

Steve ? Jurvetson used to hold them, that’s why he was banned from space x apparently…..⁉️ It was on Reddit a few years back. that’s where he met hooker Zilis and told musk to hire her, possibly after Karpathy, her partner at the time left her and Tesla… musk retained her when Karparthy left and put her in roles she had no clue about. Still the same today pretending she’s an engineer or medically trained bimbo that whores for the gold. It’s like making Elon manage a dance school… she has no clue. https://blog.paulbiggar.com/that-party-was-way-worse-than-it-sounds/ Apparently Zilis hooker went to several according to reddit years back

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-09-14 10:36

I don’t think this used to be true but it’s definitely true now

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-09-14 10:40

Eeeeh that’s not true though. Tesla is definitely building more solid cars than even 2 years ago with the refreshes. And the rockets (starship) are objectively fucking amazing, despite them trying to blow them up right now. Like two generations ahead of their nearest competition amazing. It’s definitely not just right wingers working at space x.

PatchyWhiskers 2025-09-14 11:26

If they are so objectively amazing why do they seem to blow up all the time?

[deleted] 2025-09-14 11:57

[removed]

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-09-14 12:59

It’s worth learning about. People really misunderstand space X. In short, they’re testing new designs and iterating quickly. The last flight was a complete success, simulated landing, back from orbit, beautiful flight both aesthetically and by the book. But both stages blew up in soft water landings at the end, very intentionally, partly because they were pushing the vehicles to their limits, and mostly because they just don’t need v2 vehicles when v3 is waiting to test. They did this exact same thing for the Falcon 9, arguably the most successful launch platform in history now, and people said the same thing then: why are they blowing up!? This was while they were trying to land for the first time in history. Same same. Honestly the live footage of the plasma reentering looks like Kubrick and is worth a watch live because there’s never really been footage like it until Starlink enabled it: https://youtu.be/kZw2vyZNz5I?si=Ilm4cY7QKNpL48Iu

PatchyWhiskers 2025-09-14 13:54

Billionaires don’t care about you, no matter how much you cringe to get into their good graces.

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-09-14 13:59

That's good because I don't care about them. You think Elon is here reading this? What I said is true. I think SpaceX has AMAZING engineers. That has less to do with Elon and more it being SpaceX at this point. They are spending money on interesting problems in American Aerospace, which was already interesting to me. Fuck off. Just because you're an unreasonable sycophant doesn't mean everyone else is. What's funny is I am HIGHLY disagreeable in real life. Especially if I met Musk professionally, I would outright tell him I thought his companies should be broken up. I have no problem just telling things exactly how I see them if someone asks. In this case I have no problem explaining to you that what SpaceX is doing with Starship is incredible, because it is.

SellSideShort 2025-09-14 14:46

“This isn’t just about politics”, proceeds to say it’s all about politics

No_Candy_8948 2025-09-14 16:05

Billionaires Are Bad Guys They say that it's a sign of skill, A testament of stronger will. They say they built it, on their own, Upon a silent, bloody throne. But thrones are built on broken backs, On stolen time, on hidden tracks. On policies that they designed, To keep the worker deaf and blind. Their billions grow in compound sleep, While promises are buried deep. They lobby hard to cut the tax, Then blame the world for what it lacks. They rocket to a Martian scene, While hospitals remain unclean. They hoard the grain, they fence the spring, Then offer back a tiny string. They are not geniuses or kings, They're just the end of broken things. A system meant to funnel gold, A story centuries old. So do not praise their "greed is good" creed, They are a parasite, not a seed. And every fortune, vast and tall, Is built by us and should be for all.

Tesla will no longer make a difference until Musk and the board have been booted.

[deleted] 2025-09-14 19:49

He's not just pushing engineers away from Tesla, he's pushing engineers away from the country  I swear to God, all of my friends who graduated from Rose Hulman within the last decade have almost all been recruited to Denmark, the Netherlands, or Germany.  I mean, it's kinda cool for me (now I have plenty of places to stay when I visit), but American innovation will be harmed for generations to come They really are destroying this country in 100 ways, I don't think America will ever recover from this.

HillsNDales 2025-09-14 19:57

I wish I could be in their number. Alas, my career is US-specific.

HillsNDales 2025-09-14 20:18

You know, I despise Elon, but I have to agree with you, because I always try to be fair. The recent explosions were the new design, the Falcon 9 Heavy. Did I cheer when they blew up? Yes, because nobody died. Would I have been happy if they never succeeded? Yes, because Elon. But the most recent flight was successful, and SpaceX has accomplished some amazing things. Tesla did originally, and its most recent refreshes have reportedly solved many of the problems with previous models. But they certainly haven’t solved all of them, or the way Tesla screws owners on warranties (reportedly, doctored odometers), service (4x the cost of similar repairs elsewhere for other models), FSD (hah!), safety mechanisms (people have literally burned alive in Tesla wrecks because no physical door latches and the “auto-open in case of accident” feature failed), lying about the data they collect and have and the control they retain over the cars, and Elon’s constant…let’s call them marketing fluff…promises about tech that never materializes. Combine that with unpopular politics (apparently, an actual Nazi and definitely white suprematist), trying to buy our government (and succeeding long enough to get every regulator with investigations open against him fired), overweening arrogance, drug use, attitude toward women in general, failure to really update Tesla’s models or innovate in recent years, use of his son as a bullet shield, the lives he ruined through DOGE, and much better competition in the electric car space, and Tesla is on life support. Especially after the lapse of the credits that were shoring up Tesla’s income statement for the past several years (by a government he supported and ushered into power, no less). As for Xai, or whatever it’s called? It’s become the alternate to FourChan. Every day fewer people care about what goes on there. And telling it’s advertisers to “eff off” last year didn’t help.

One was with Muslim guys standing behind a white pilot. The other one was of four bkack guys, standing behind a young white woman on a couch. It was the cover of an interracial gangbang CD.
