I dislike Tesla as much as the next person, but I am glad for the Biden administrations ban on Chinese cars (same with Chinese phones)
Chinese cars have been blocked for far longer than just the Biden admin. I don't have any strong feelings on this, but I'm curious why everyone is normally supportive of competition but when it comes to cars they are okay with shielding the entire industry from competition? Americans are driving worse, more expensive, less efficient, more polluting cars so that the big 3 doesn't have to innovate?
Same reason with phones and cell towers, security reasons. I used to work for government, contrary to popular beliefs, there's a transparent process to get info from private companies.
Wouldn't they only exclude imports of vehicles which include telemetry capabilities then? If security is the only reason then we would be allowed to import chinese cars without any wifi/5g antennae, etc.
No one makes "dumb cars" anymore outside of say India.
Right, but my point is a "security" reason for their ban in America doesn't make sense as... * A: China isn't allowed to offer "dumb" cars, which could compete on price if not smart features * B: We allow all sorts of "smart" devices to come from china which should be just as much of a security threat as a smart car
