When Elon was very confidently and very incompetently explaining issues with Twitter shortly after he bought the company and fired many critical staff, it became clear that he wasn't a tech genius so much as he was a conman.
To the surprise of no one
The world’s biggest welfare queen is a liar?
$1T payday incoming
He is a con man and always has been.
There's a way higher chance of Tesla going belly up then any of the trenches' goals for payouts.
This sounds like evidence for a class action lawsuit.
Extra! Extra! fElons lying! Yawn.
Elon knows and Tesla knows it all along Tesla's is not a car company nor tech company.. it's a dream company that sell dreams in forms of company share. It is super obvious when the company board talks about company valuation as success metric instead of talking about revenue
That he is a conman is clear. What's fascinating is this sheer endless supply of disciples who believe him. It's so disappointing.
He made people print out their code for “review.” He’s a fucking sham
I finally figured it out when he called those cave divers "pedophiles" when they rescued those kids- simply because his submarine idea was bollocks and he wanted to be the 'hero'. Didn't give a shit about the children, it was all about him
Look no one is shocked by anything he says. We know it’s all bs now and for a while. He is a not to be trusted business man narcissist who lives at the peak of ignorance and confidence. Why anyone still employees him or engages with him or invests in his bs is beyond me
This could be big trouble for him in a couple of hundred years given the state of the US legal system.
Seems a little more ambiguous than straight lying. He seems to actually believe it has to be one or the other. The article is trying to spin it as a lie, but the facts presented look more like him being an idiot who doesn't listen to smarter people.
I’m not in tech - can you explain like I’m 5
Software development workflow is done universally through version control systems and in software that allows someone to move throughout a codebase to follow where code comes from, where it’s used, where it’s tested, how it’s changed over time, what it depends on, what depends on it, etc etc. Printing it out is absolutely useless. They might as well have just printed him pure gibberish because asking for it to be printed belies the fact that in reality, he doesn’t know shit about programming, let alone actual software engineering.
I think the lie is around making false statements such as "lidar is dangerous" and make it sounds like it has to be one or the other ... any reasonable engineer will be looking at both if the end goal is for greater safety even that means additional cost. However Musk is either too dumb or he really only cares about his own ego and $
Like how he walked in and started unplugging random shit and fucked up the server? Never saw this coming.
That had been clear for a while before that though
But boy did that headline make noise. Just another empty stunt to keep the company name in the news.
To an extent, yes. But the twitter debacle put his leadership on display in ways that made it impossible not to see how truly incompetent he was in addition to being a weird fascist asshole.
I tell my kids that a lot - "you're very confident in your ignorance".
He's made a few comments over the years that make me think that he's never actually written any software that's been used for anything meaningful.
This happened years before that when he talked about every single thing he’s ever worked on
Like many startup CEOs the primary job is hype building.
While part of PayPal he advocated for changing their tech stack from Linux to windows…

Thank you for that clarification. Honestly that makes a little more sense (not much mind you) since you were stuck with proprietary stuff either way. But Solaris at least would be quicker to move to the more financially scalable Linux options.
Fake news. Tesla isn't in the business of building self-driving cars. They only build humanoid robots, billions of them.
Some of us knew *way* before that.
It took you this long ?
[relevant musing](https://mastodon.social/@rodhilton/109572674700288958) It was clear before that point depending on how close you were paying attention to the shit he was saying on Twitter. But when he gets all up in *your* particular business, it becomes hard to miss.
so i can stop printing my code?
Gotta pump before you can dump!
Mt. Stupid (of Dunning Kruger fame) is a popular selfie spot for intellectual tourists
Twitter wasn't a startup when he bought it.
That's fair. Some of us didn't really pay much attention to him until we became aware that he was crazy.
I uh, yeah you don't have to do that as far as I'm concerned.
I was vaguely aware of who he was, but I had never paid much attention to him. Then I watched a show on National Geographic about the potential for a manned mission to Mars. This was when the Falcon 9 was still in development, and he was talking about his vision for its mission profile. He was talking about a single launch stage that would achieve orbital insertion of its payload, then turn around and fly back to the launch site. That’s when I knew he was some combination of idiot and snake-oil salesman. Shortly after that, I started working in autonomous vehicle development. Listening to his bullshit about Autopilot, and actually knowing what responsible people were doing, did nothing but reinforce my impression of him.
That is not what happened. You hate him for a misunderstanding.
Same as Tesla.
He has been lying about this from day dot.
The cave rescue was years ago. I didn't connect the dots back then when he called the rescuer a pedo.
Yeah if you were working in that field you would have had insight a lot earlier than most of us.
He got lucky writing some little app a few decades ago and made bank being in the right place at right time.
How is this news? He's been doing that for 10 years!
This is the biggest violently waving red flag.
He lied many times publicly about self driving but there are still idiots falling for this fraud.
Anytime there is a world event happening, he has to weigh in. I can't stand this plastic face parts bin.
He should be in prison and I hope he ends up there.
A psychopath and a con man.
When he was a software engineer at Zip2, he used to be so dog shit at it that they’d give him his own branch and then never merge it, basically.
I love that workflow master/ dev/ feat-*/ release_*/ rubber-room/
yeah - so many sycophants wanted to cozy up to him.
It's amazing how much bullshit has been promised without any critical thinking: autopilot/FSD, hyperloop, life on mars, brain implants, and humanoid robots just to name a few. I considered accepting a job at Tesla over a decade ago, but thought it didn't make sense to take stock options with lower pay at a company that was potentially bankrupt. Know a few colleagues who have worked at Tesla and are good people. Most of them have reinforced my view that Elon is not a pleasant person to work for, and that the company does things that are shady AF.
Correct me if I'm wrong (i am not a programmer) but even in the pre-AI era, the computer platforms used for software development helped testing -- looking for an open { without a closed } which might make code not run. So to just look at a printout is foolish. It's the platform that helps evaluate it.
To me, the first hint was when he touted Bitcoin.
Here's a video where he crashes out when challenged why they needed to rewrite the whole Twitter stack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJo-ulbIu8I
He is basically Elizabeth Holmes
I’d just print out the node_modules folder

Christ I read this in his voice
>"This is a fundamental misunderstanding of information theory," he added. Increasingly people with so much money are in charge of directing where money goes even when they don't understand anything about it. Remember the Hyperloop Musk wanted just to kill California high speed rail? Billionares shouldn't exist. Every dollar earned above that should be taxed 100 %.
Elon is the tech genius software developer that doesn't even know how to run a python program, no does he know to use Google to ask such a simple question. IMO I thought he was a fraud the moment he came out with that idiotic solution of Tesla building a submarine to save those kids trapped in the cave (well that and his idiotic childish knowledge of Mars & space too).
> You hate him for a misunderstanding. Lol, no. People hate him for who he is. He shows that to us continually, since he can't stop rambling about everything and everyone, showing his ignorance and lies. This was just once instance of that.
That's just a syntax error. Should be caught by your code editor. Actual testing is much more than that. But yeah, it's foolish
Just imagine them trying to rescue the kids with a broken down Cybertruck blocking the tunnel. That's probably how it'd end
