Tesla in Germany -40%

Chemical-Idea-1294 | 2025-09-04 05:56 | 583 views

While the German EV-Registrations increased by 46% in August, Tesla was able to reduce their sales by 40% to just 1.441 cars, 3.6% of all EVs registered.

Good times

royboypoly 2025-09-04 06:00

Is Tesla dead?

vonwwijk 2025-09-04 06:09

How? Are AFD fanboys not buying tesla's?

[deleted] 2025-09-04 06:14

Most unemployed losers cant afford them.

Beartrkkr 2025-09-04 06:15

Sounds like the stock should rise on the news.

PineappleGuy7 2025-09-04 06:23

Wunderbar!

Affectionate-Sink721 2025-09-04 06:27

This means stock price up by 5%!

Low-Possibility-7060 2025-09-04 06:28

Still 1441 too many

habfranco 2025-09-04 06:29

They’ll have to scale down the gigafactory they have there to mega or maybe kilo even.

weasel_face 2025-09-04 06:29

I work with a company in Germany. I visit once a year and communicate a few times a week. Many of the people I know there drive Teslas. After Elon's antics earlier in the year all of them have vowed to never buy another Tesla again. The country hates him. It's the fastest 180 I've ever seen.

Top_Junket2991 2025-09-04 06:29

stock went up 1% overnight on news

Slight_Pomelo_1008 2025-09-04 06:41

hope so

GxOffmodd 2025-09-04 06:41

😂🤌🏻❤️

johnny_51N5 2025-09-04 06:42

Well that is the Genius of Elon. He had the choice between two parties. One that absolutely hates EVs and will almost never buy one but really hate unionizing OR his loyal customers who love unionizing Mfer is so god damn stupid. Paid 300 million only to get booted out and fucked over and lose his customers because he thought he can come in and fix the Gouvernement only to find out it is already pretty efficient and there are already checks and balances... Oh and the sieg heils, yeah not the best idea

Enough-Meaning1514 2025-09-04 06:48

Those are rookie numbers. Elon needs to pump up those numbers, like -90% would be ideal.

FlagFootballSaint 2025-09-04 06:49

Damn they are ranked #24(!!!) of all brand in August sales (including ICE) Brutal

RedditTyrem 2025-09-04 06:49

Still not enough. We can do better!!!

casastorta 2025-09-04 06:54

3.6% of all EVs! Like, not car sales overall. Noice. 😁

alex4494 2025-09-04 06:57

I genuinely wonder how long they can keep up with sales tanking this hard in key markets, especially considering they have a factory in Germany…

Chemical-Idea-1294 2025-09-04 07:05

Yeah, these 1.400 cars are less than a third of the output of one day. But as the EV-market grows, Tesla still gets its sales, but at least in Europe, it increases below market average everwhere.

Chemical-Idea-1294 2025-09-04 07:06

It's 0.7% of all new registrations.

sly_sally28 2025-09-04 07:11

I'm always amazed by how badly Nissan dropped the ball. The affordable EV market was theirs to dominate in 2017 but instead they crapped out another Leaf which was basically identical to the car they were producing six years earlier but with a new nose, rear and battery.

CashKeyboard 2025-09-04 07:25

Friendly reminder that TSLA is still up YoY and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Its valuation is bascially built on make believe and so this once again doesn't really hurt Elon Musk.

LostDefinition4810 2025-09-04 07:30

It’s just a grift at this point. Actual company performance is irrelevant.

[deleted] 2025-09-04 07:32

Yet still the best selling EV sold

Top-Currency 2025-09-04 07:38

Who cares? Haven't you heard, Tesla is not a car company, it's all about humanoid robots now!

vonwwijk 2025-09-04 07:43

No, just no. The real issue isn’t about immigrants, it’s more of an economic gap between East and West. AfD just makes it easy to point the finger at immigrants, but that’s not the problem. This kind of scapegoating has happened throughout history. The real problem is that there are more jobs and higher wages in the West, which keeps widening the gap and leaves many people in the East feeling left behind.

shiroandae 2025-09-04 07:45

That’s the reason why they vote for the Nazis. It doesn’t mean the party aren’t Nazis. That doesn’t make it ok for the voters either tho - in the 1930s, most voters for the NSDAP also didn’t vote for them because of their policies, but because they were fed up with the existing system and economic hardships.

Krieg 2025-09-04 07:49

VW is number one on sales with 37467 units while Tesla is second last with 1441. The best thing is that BYD is in the last position with 1114 but we all know BYD numbers will blow up soon. So I guess before the end of the year Tesla will be in the last place. Well done Germany.

Chemical-Idea-1294 2025-09-04 08:12

Sorry to disapoint you, the 37467 are all sales from VW. They will likely be at around 7000 EVs. BYD also includes PHEVs. The exact numbers will be out in a few days.

Gildardo1583 2025-09-04 08:48

That's the amazing part. But then again, that's how our current stock market runs. I mean, why is Chipotle stock price so high?

ikonaut_jc 2025-09-04 08:48

Japanese car manufacturers are losing hard in the EV game. Korea will make up market share over the bext years for sure. And China of course.

Gildardo1583 2025-09-04 08:49

Ha, pounds..

gwenver 2025-09-04 08:50

Who is buying them? I mean what are the bragging rights? Seems like social death on either end of the political spectrum, and most of the middle.

Sunshine3432 2025-09-04 08:54

He didn't want to "fix" shit, just fire the people who could hurt him

Treewithatea 2025-09-04 09:43

Remember that this isnt an American situation where you have two big parties that roughly have 50% of the voters. The AfD might have 20-25% of the voters, that also means theres 75-80% who do not vote that party and likely despise them. On top of that, the AfD is particularly popular in East Germany where incomes are lower and people dont buy new cars as much. Despite their patriotism, they buy less German cars than the West. Whenever you see cars with like far right stickers on them in Germany, its often not a German car but something like an older Kia/Hyundai.

SpectrumWoes 2025-09-04 09:44

No one is going to buy FSD from Tesla lol

Treewithatea 2025-09-04 09:44

Truth be told its a complicated issue. The East has a tradition of voting anti government parties or so called protest parties. Before the AfD for a while it was die Linke which is on the whooooole opposite spectrum of the AfD.

SpectrumWoes 2025-09-04 09:45

And batteries! (That they buy from somewhere else)

Treewithatea 2025-09-04 09:46

Tesla Kilofactory 😂 From what I know, theyre still busy as they produce cars for all of Europe and even the middle East. Remember the UK and Norway still buy plenty of Teslas too

SolutionWarm6576 2025-09-04 09:52

Bullish.

JRLDH 2025-09-04 09:57

Nissan only viewed the “Leaf” as a marketing tool to give them an environmentally responsible image. It backfired spectacularly as it ruined the EV image as a weird granola treehugger car.

JRLDH 2025-09-04 09:59

They can’t even make FSD work in their own cars.

JRLDH 2025-09-04 10:06

Same in Austria. It’s fascinating how people like Elon Musk or even some friends of mine in the USA don’t understand that a “Roman Salute” isn’t an edgy demonstration of free speech. I grew up in Austria and a “Roman Salute” gesture is like publicly yelling the “N-Word”. There is no amount of gaslighting that can undo this. Elon Musk branded himself forever as a Nazi and that will never change. No respectable German or Austrian would buy a car from him anymore.

CashKeyboard 2025-09-04 10:06

Well they're consistently beating estimates for starters unlike certain other companies with certain ketamine fueled fascist leaders

JRLDH 2025-09-04 10:09

That Bjorn_N guy is one of those people who prop up that stock. They really believe in Optimus and AI future. It’s fascinating.

Initial_Ad2228 2025-09-04 10:42

Stock price straight to $375 tomorrow on this good news.

Andy_Fish_Gill 2025-09-04 11:00

The true genius of Elon is that the more Tesla sales drop, the higher the stock goes! Expect a 3-5% rise today.

mucall1 2025-09-04 11:01

Bingo. Nothing but pure hate here.

clearbox 2025-09-04 11:02

Modern Germany frowns upon Sieg Heil’s - so most Germans avoid this brand now. It’s also difficult for German businesses to have a fleet of these vehicles, as their customers disapprove of Musk so much.

Street_Barracuda1657 2025-09-04 11:10

They’re a software company, not a car company…😒

FrogmanKouki 2025-09-04 11:17

Nick_Gilberts_Bowtie 2025-09-04 11:17

Hockey_Tendy 2025-09-04 11:37

Model Ys from German Gifafactory are also being produced to sell to all of Canada (due to Tarrifs, its too expensive to sell from US)

atpplk 2025-09-04 11:47

> he thought he can come in and fix the Gouvernement only to find out it is already pretty efficient and there are already checks and balances... You're really naive if you thought that's the reason for DOGE existence. He went in, corrupted everything that could impair his businesses close or far, and went out. Made some noise about firing a few public servants so that the press focuses on that (flood the zone)

ArQ7777 2025-09-04 12:10

Nope. Elon Musk said Optimus will be main source of Tesla revenue and Optimus makes Tesla worth 10 trillion dollars. He no longer cares EV sales which is worth 1 trillion dollars at most.

danwin 2025-09-04 12:16

Chipotle is down 31% YoY despite continuing to sell burritos that live up to expectations

JamesLahey08 2025-09-04 12:31

JamesLahey08 2025-09-04 12:31

heleuma 2025-09-04 12:33

There is also speculation the stock price is being held up with call options. If your metric of the companies health is it's stock price, that's a bit unfortunate.

Dch131 2025-09-04 12:46

Still way too much Teslas being purchased. Sales should literally be 0

Gutokoro 2025-09-04 12:51

CouncilmanRickPrime 2025-09-04 13:31

It's still up because morons believe in the robotaxi. But my understanding is now Tesla has had to move the supervisors back to the driver's seat. Not a good look when Waymo has no driver in multiple cities.

I am specifically talking about its valuation but thank you so much for your feedback and the very concrete facts on these speculations!

sleeplessinseaatl 2025-09-04 16:03

The stock keeps going up on bad news.

lump77777 2025-09-04 16:41

They’re only 10 years behind plan on FSD. I say “only” because they’re way further behind on Optimus. There was a robot Olympics recently where 200+ companies had entries. Tesla has had zero. My brother’s college roommate studied robotics, and he showed me his “project” that could do most of what I’ve see Optimus do (ie not much). That was 1993. Elon pivots when he knows he’s cooked. Their car business is dying, Robotaxi has a huge uphill climb, and Optimus is a ketamine dream. I suppose Optimus could bring me some popcorn, at least, because I’ll be eating it in large quantities as I watch this epic fail play out.

heleuma 2025-09-04 17:11

The stock price is the valuation and if you want concrete facts....they were already given to you in the article. Specifically

nlaak 2025-09-04 17:40

> Tesla already got their lions share of the private ev marked. Lol, no, that's not how it works. Tesla *had* the lions share of the private EV market, but people buy guys every year. If you want to keep the lions share, you have to sell cars every year too. >So now they move on to CyberCab / Optimus. They're not even on the playing field with either of these stillborn projects. >potentially licensing FSD to brands who cant make it themself's Who the hell would license autonomy software that doesn't work? Do you see anyone licensing anything of note from Tesla?

Bagafeet 2025-09-04 18:17

It's parody but also fucking tru story lmao

ijzerwater 2025-09-04 19:41

As far as I understand that gigafactory produces 1000 cars a day, or more because it was 500 000 a year to be upped to a million. So, Germany is good for 1 1/2 day, but Austria for just 1/3 day or even less. Also read: 'In 2022, Tesla’s sales in Europe reached 232,066 vehicle'. It does not seem that 2025 will be much better, that 250 000 cars from Gigafactory to be shipped to somewhere

ijzerwater 2025-09-04 19:44

Canada has less than half the inhabitants of Germany, I doubt that's giving 10 000 sales

DamnUOnions 2025-09-05 04:46

As a German I am ashamed. It should be -90%.

JamesLahey08 2025-09-05 10:54

Who?

habfranco 2025-09-05 20:22

Of course they are still busy, this is not the point. The fact remains that they definitely built this factory to face a growing demand, not a cratering one like now. When you face reduced revenue, this first thing you do is reduce costs.

habfranco 2025-09-05 20:24

And sales are down 67% YoY

LostDefinition4810 2025-09-07 05:32

100%. It’s disconnected from actual company performance. It’s like the Emperor’s New Clothes. Everything is amazing. Nobody say anything and they all get rich.

Grevillea_banksii 2025-09-07 23:56

New BMW iX3 vs Tesla Cybertruck Which so you think will have better sales?

Chemical-Idea-1294 2025-09-08 05:33

In which market? I don't know, where BMW will build the iX3, and about the tax implications for the US market. But this will have a big impact for US sales. When the additional costs are small enough, it will beat it. Outside the US, the iX3 will sell better for sure.

EarthConservation 2025-09-08 18:08

AFD would likely be lower income folks who are angry because they've found little if any success in life, and they've been conditioned to believe that all of their troubles are because of "the immigrants". These aren't the folks holding the corporate jobs and getting cars through their companies. Many of these people can't afford a new car, much less a Tesla. However, many who can afford one, who have had some success in life, absolutely detest Musk, but they do like EVs, do support German OEMs, and do buy EVs from the plethora of other brands that sell them.
