Austria Sales: -32% YOY

balemo7967 | 2025-09-02 06:01 | 139 views

Sales in August fell from 398 Units in 2024 to just 270 Units in 2025. That's a change of -32%. Although Austria is not Tesla’s most important market, the result is still significant because the country had shown growth in the past - unlike many other European markets. That story, however, is now history. Norway remains the last Tesla stronghold in Europe. Edit: missed a word

Tesla’s performance is more consistent than Elon’s controversies. 😅

Austrian here.  Tesla falls into the death trap here like almost everywhere else in Europe: Lefties despise Musk and stopped buying, Righties cheer him on but hate BEVs and there is such a array of cool cars from so many manufacturers to be chosen that Teslas became „just one of them“. Also a very important factor: Companies don‘t want to be publicly shamed for supporting Musk and all that he represents and remove Teslas from their carpool eligible lists of cars to choose from

“That doesn’t matter because it’s only X percent of teslas market” Rinse and repeat for every country.

Oh I forgot: An eyeball test confirms there are almost no „Junipers“ seen anywhere. They are very very rare.

exactly, and to add: It is not only the big and [growing number of available EVs on the European market](https://www.adac.de/rund-ums-fahrzeug/autokatalog/autotest/beste-elektroautos/), it is also the aggressive marketing from Chinese brands, and the traditional German brands (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, VW, Opel, etc.) catching up. Without making this a topic of right vs. left, many people start realizing that it is important to buy locally (a German or EU brand like Skoda, Seat/Cupra, Volvo, Peugeot, etc..), even if it is often associated with a higher price tag.

Regarding Chinese cars: As for Austria only BYD is notably present and pushing successfully. Others like Leapmotors just tip their toe into the water, mostly unrecognized from the main public. Actually I could not even name any other but those two ACTUALLY selling cars here. EDIT: I forgot about MG, saw a few of those as well.

I saw a Maxus eTERRON 9 on the street a few weeks ago (a real beauty.... /s), but they are rare indeed. And Post is using their transporters as well [https://www.flotte.at/news/11461-700-maxus-e-transporter-fur-die-post](https://www.flotte.at/news/11461-700-maxus-e-transporter-fur-die-post)

Do Elon Musk even care a market that is only selling 300 cars a month?

balemo7967 2025-09-02 12:42

yes, because austria, alongside with norway, was named as one of those countries where tesla has increasing sales numbers. It is not so much about a few hundred cars, but more about the story that does not work anymore

I wish the U.S. had this resolve.

Can confirm. 1-2 years ago everyone wanted a tesla as company car (tech company). Today there are more polestars and VW group EVs on the parking lot than teslas.
