FSD is easily the biggest waste of money I've ever had. If you don't count the whole car purchase I guess.
If Tesla is still around in 2027 I'll be genuinely surprised. About the only thing that might save it is if Elon overdoses on ketamine and dies. Similar to how the one thing that might save America is if Trump gets sick enough and dies. That's the state of the world now, praying that the people in charge die so that maybe things get a little better.
It honestly shouldn't cost a dime in its current and previous states. Paying for beta software that may never make it to actual release is wild work. The fact that buying it once also doesn't allow you to transfer to another VIN outside of some sales promo is wilder still. I've used it and was impressed with what it could do *if it were a free trial software*, but paying literally anything for it is utterly wild to me.
As soon as anyone notices the differences between the on screen simulation and what is actually on the road around them the car owners should want nothing to do with FSS unless they are total fucking morons, Tesla has exhausted the market supply of morning that want anything other than a white truck.
You could make a lot of money shorting it if you don’t think it’ll be here in 16 months.
At this point, adding PS5 controller support to Tesla is a better investment than FSD. Vision-only was a blunder of epic proportions.
Owning MYP for over 3 yrs with milage coming close to 150k and used FSD 3 maybe 4 times, so yes I don't care much about it.
That massive gaslighting bullshit was what soured me. I did not appreciate being so blatantly lied to.
Did you spend $8k on it or was that just the free trials?
Bbbbbut the car sees more than it displays !!!!!!1!111!!1!!!
That’s a really stupid comment. Tesla is going to be around for a long time. They have a lot of positive things going for them. Is it worth 1t absolutely not. But saying they are not goi g to exist in 2027 is stupid
Does anyone else think Musk is actively trying to sell off his "tech company"?
Can you explain this
This is a click bait article based on a poorly thought out poll. If you want to find out about FSD you also have to poll people on whether they hate Tesla in general and try to correct for that. FSD is no reason to avoid Tesla as it doesn't cost anything. I don't think it's a great reason to choose Tesla because it kind of sucks. This article tells me the Tesla brand is +15/-35= 20 points underwater. Tells me nothing about FSD.
If sales crash enough and the stock crashes to sub $100, they will get acquired. The only thing stupid here is you, but you're a special kind of stupid, which is something I guess.
No I didn't spend a dime on it. Got 1 month free when I got a car and then I got one month from Tesla in November of 2023 or 2024.
Even if FSD was free, I would still opt out of it. I don't even trust the Autopilot, so forget about FSD.
100$ is still 300 billion and more than most car companies combined. To say they are going to go away in 2027 or be acquired is crazy.
They will be around in 2027 but the fundamentals do not remotely support their stock price. Declining YOY sales, shrinking margins, increasingly dated models without anything new coming, and increased competition. FSD is going to turn into a liability. It’s clear Cybertaxis aren’t going to function properly without “assistance” of a supervisor sitting in the passenger seat. Margins were never going to be great on the cybertaxis anyways. They just shut down their AI dept. Their Optimus robot has a LONG way to go to ever be wanted. If the market ever stops believing in Elon (I.e. the lies catch up to him), their stock price is in for a world of hurt.
Tesla needs to give up on FSD. Just give it cruise control and work on improving range, interior quality and repairability. Imagine if all those billions Tesla spent on FSD were instead devoted to improving fit and finish.
State of the world, but violate’s Reddit’s rules lol
FSD is the reason my daughter gets scared when I put on cruise control… it’s a core memory for her seeing my fight our model X as it tried to kill us.
They'll be around for a long time. I mean look at Dodge, they're down to just 3 models (2 of them are very unpopular) and Chrysler is down to 1. But they're still around and have the chance at recovering. Tesla also still is by far the biggest EV maker in the USA. The Mustang Mach E struggled to sell over 50k units in the USA. Compared to Tesla the Model 3 easily sells over 200k and the Y over 400k last year.
That happens when you over-promise and under-deliver.
I’m glad I saw through the bullshit and never bought it. I think what stopped me from buying it was watching the cars around me pirouette at a stop light. I knew it wasn’t happening soon.
My dad bought FSD 6 years ago in a country that still doesn’t have FSD working. And they’ve already sold the car. It’s a complete joke.
They really need to lower the price. $8k is unreasonable.
But, but, but fElon told me the only thing holding back sales in Europe was that FSD wasn't allowed there. I'm shocked :o
Correction: Tesla turns off more consumers than it attracts. FSD is yet another Musk distraction.
Dodge has far, far less vertical integration than Tesla. The vertical integration makes Tesla incredibly adept at some things. Software, the supercharger network, on and on. It also makes their ability to reduce costs during slumps WAY less effective. Tesla has a non zero risk of collapsing relatively quickly. Their fixed costs are huge. Just to be clear I do not think this is going to happen. I think idiots will support this company for years. BUT if sales continue to slump and investors lose confidence for any reason, it can be a fairly quick spiral down
Not going into the unsafe nature of it as its well documented..But they are charing $100 a month or $8k just to purchase beta unfinished software and more so, software that can be disabled by Tesla if they strike you out for anything they claim isn't paying total attention...which from reports, is not very accurate. Its pretty damn outrageous.
I really wish I was able to see the scam for what it was but I fell right into their fucked up game. The self drive stuff impressed me on the short little test drive and that was more a reason I bought the car than it being electric. Took about a week of ownership to realize how full of shit it all was.
I got my 2023 AWD Model Y for $6000 off list + $10,500 in gov't money so $40K OTD. Helluva deal and I love driving it every day. Paid the $100 for FSD on a trip up to Washington in June and it was pretty good. Maybe worth the $5 for every 100 miles I drove, maybe not.
I'll take my Lincoln Corsair with Blue Cruise over my old Model 3 with "FSD" any day

There is a computer simulation on the infotainment system of the tesla that shows all of the things computer vision sees around the car. Its constantly wrong. It doesn't see pedestrians or bikes quite a bit of the time. Cars bounce around the screen on occasion. Driving on rural roads that are single lane is insanity on the simulation. You can't make the simulation go away and use the screen space for anything else like a music play list, or more usable navigation area... Seeing what the car thinks is around itself is eye opening and really removes any confidence an objective person would have about full self driving.
LOL hahaha and it still displays shit wrong.
My dear spouse just bought a Chevy Equinox EV. As far as fit and finish, clobbers my neighbors Tesla. I haven't driven it yet....
Tesla hasn't refreshed the look of their cars since inception; I want a car I can be proud of and can show off - teslas look ugly, even if the tech is good
>“The drop in the company’s brand reputation this year is remarkable,” said Evan Roth Smith, head of research at Slingshot Strategies, which conducted the survey. Might be something to do with spending 100s of millions on Trump and the GOP and a particular salute.
From what I have seen and what people say, it works better when it is following another vehicle. I am fairly certain that a big part of FSD is that it goes into a 'follow the car ahead' mode. I can see that being quick way to get something to market but there is a limited on how effective that is.
I don't trust the person in front of me. I especially don't trust the person behind me. I also don't trust elon musk to make anything that isn't a copy of what someone else is doing, and not a great copy at that. Tesla needs the original founders back. Those people knew how to plan and execute.
> If Tesla is still around in 2027 I'll be genuinely surprised. I suspect they will be. I honestly don't understand how its share price can continue to go up despite promising more and more, and never delivering.
Or, you know, develop new models like any other car company...
What a DB Shorty😝
I rode in an FSD tesla for the first time. It was quite impressive. But instead of turning into the destination at the proper place with a left hand turning lane, it went past and turned into what is meant to be the parking lot exit, with no turn lane. It crossed double yellow lines to make this turn, which I believe is illegal. But I have to say it was otherwise very smooth.
It’s legitimately dangerous to use.
Moving goalposts - nice!
Only bet what you are willing to lose, the market will stay regarded way longer than anyone expects.
Well you aren’t the only one who fell for it. They aren’t a trillion dollar company because everyone can see the truth. When I was researching the car after autonomy day I was pretty convinced that it was going to drive itself within a couple years. That faked video was pretty impressive. There was just something that ground my gears when the price was “only going up” every couple months because it was so valuable.
It already spells S3XY, what more yøu want?
People shouldn't be paying for beta testing, they should be paying them. Even at bare minimum it shouldn't for the prices that they are charging. Saying that, $8-15k is bullshit even for a fully working version though.
Furthermore paying for something that doesn’t do, and will probably never do, what it has been advertised for. I don’t understand how there haven’t been hundreds of lawsuits yet - but it seems to be starting…
Dodge exists as a brand, but not as a company. It’s part of Stellantis (and before Fiat and Chrysler). That’s what probably will happen to Tesla as well.
“The car got lost and broke the law twice in a short drive, but I was impressed and it was very smooth.” I wish you people could hear yourselves.
You still have to pay attention to the road. You can't just stare at your phone. Not exactly surprising it's not worth 8k and most people don't care.
Self-crashing car? Thank you, but no.
Didn't realise it worked in any country
I should have clarified. Not even offered in my country, but still for sale.
FSD is a lie and it’s overpriced. At this price point when the company brags about having the highest growth margin” feature” should be free and used as a differentiator but instead it’s nothing more than a bragging point for a feature that half works and is 10 years behind the promised delivery date
Ok. I know where I live you wouldn't be allowed to sell anything as "full self driving" unless that was exactly what it did.
Yup, same in mine. Not sure how they haven’t been forced to change the name.
Well, *yeah*… Any “autonomous” system has an easier time following a leader than it does navigating on its own. It’s one reason why so many OEMs are quick to add traffic jam assistance to ADAS packages - there’s much less risk when you can constantly track a vehicle ahead, and safely mimic 90% of what it does.
I don't know... Maybe they could complete the Sexy Chimpanzee family of cars
I live 74 miles from my office and FSD is the main reason I got my Model 3 and it has been a life saver for that drive that I do a couple times a week. No interventions door to door, 2 different highways, 3 different back roads. I'm on HW3 and it works fantastic ('22). There is no other car that I could buy that could do this. I usually do some calls while doing the commute while maintaining supervision. Sometimes I do disengage to do a maneuver I'd prefer, but it does fine if I just let it do it all without issues.
Correction: Must turns off more consumers than Tesla attracts.
its a "life saver" being too lazy to actually drive your vehicle. Also, lol.
They shouldn't be allowed to "beta test" on public roads, period.
I think most people here who are turned off have not actually used FSD significant amount of time.
Granted I’ve only seen it in action in person once the other day when I got a ride in my coworker’s Y, but I was pretty damned impressed 🤷🏼♂️
What stopped every Tesla owner I know from buying it was getting the short free trial of FSD and having it try to kill them. People who had downed the cool-aid before purchasing were suddenly faced with a dangerous, unpredictable feature and decided it wasn't worth thousands of dollars. Sometimes I will run into someone who swears it works with no interventions, who does not seem to be lying and I just don't understand how they have such a different experience from everyone else I know who has tried it.
Stock ownership, that’s how.
“Next Year” is Musk’s equivalent/analogue to trump’s “two weeks”
From the article “Musk has said in posts on X that FSD can “can operate in all conditions,” will “save lives” and will be a “life-changing product” for many people.” Huh, when offered a free trial of FSD for my Model 3 it quit in the rain, or when sunshine blinded the cameras, or when, well, whatever adverse condition comes along that doesn’t faze human drivers. Saving lives? Jury is still out on that. Life-changing? Sure changed mine, I mean fElon Musk certainly has. Will never buy a new Tesla as long as he lives.
> 28 miles of electric range. Impressive! You can get the same Blue Cruise on a Mach-E or an F150 Lightning.
yeah once the legacy makers go NACS they will be much more competition for Tesla. Ironically the move this model year comes with losing the $7500 IRA tax credit, and cancellation of the NEVI CCS-1 build out plan. What a shit show these past 5 years! I figure my 2023 MY AWD was the least-worst option out there, moving from my 2018 LEAF S that was OK but not suitable going outside my area code.
I waited for fsd and I’m glad I waited because it never materialised!
It's awesome and works flawlessly for me.
I get the impression a lot of fans of FSD simply don't like to drive all that much. The see it as a chore. Me, I like to drive. It's an enjoyable experience, except for driving to work, of course :) So for me, FSD doesn't hold a lot of appeal. Autopilot on long highway trips sounds nice, simply because it would be nice to be able to relax a bit, especially when the GPS says things like, "In 120 miles, take exit..." The other reason I'm not interested in Tesla FSD in particular is it's strictly camera based. If I'm letting the car make those types of decisions, I want it to have a LOT more info than just what its "eyes" see. Radar, Lidar, Sonar, gimme all of them! Why cripple it?
I mean… yea? That’s why someone would get FSD, so it drives them.
My parents got me a Tesla with FSD because I dozed off behind the wheel for a second and got into a very minor accident (medical issue). I don’t 100% trust the FSD, and I try not to use it in specific conditions, but I’ll use it when I feel I can’t safely drive the car myself, which isn’t very often anymore. I mainly drive on the highway, about 60 miles a day, so that was their biggest concern. I do try to drive and park it myself as much as possible so I don’t become reliant on it though, which I something I can see happening with other people in the future.
