Tesla Makes The Cybertruck More Expensive, Even As Sales Crater | The most expensive version of the Cybertruck got a $15,000 price hike because of a mandatory "Luxe Package."

Probably huge government contract incoming, ordering 20.000 of them for military target aim or something stupid. Better raise the price before that

puckobeterson 2025-08-22 11:06

my exact thought

Free_Range_Lobster 2025-08-22 11:17

Finally, something that will make flying in an Osprey look safe.

luv2block 2025-08-22 11:37

This is how you know Tesler is dead. If anyone with a brain was left, they'd immediately kill the Cybertruck. No matter what the cost, the thing is actually damaging your brand. But when you have a CEO who thinks they are god, they refuse to ever admit they were wrong... so they'll keep a product alive forever just so people can't call it a failure.

PortlandPetey 2025-08-22 11:43

Genius! This is some real 7D chess here. /s

MJFields 2025-08-22 11:44

Because price is no object when you're an idiot.

bindermichi 2025-08-22 11:45

No problem. If nobody buys one there isn‘t really a price hike

Even-Leave4099 2025-08-22 12:00

Milking the remaining fanboys for all the money they have left.

Bdowns_770 2025-08-22 12:01

This smells like McKinsey/Bain/BCG. I’m sure the deck that powered this decision was a real work of art. “It’s not selling because it’s not ‘exclusive’ enough so raise prices to create more exclusivity.”

oboshoe 2025-08-22 12:09

i hate those guys too, but they aren't always wrong. let's say this doubles the margin but thry lose 40% of their sales. thats a massive win for the company.

TheKingOfSwing777 2025-08-22 12:12

This kind of thing worked for them in the past. People scrambling to get a Y 'cause prices might never be this low again' as they creeped up over time. I think people figured out that game by now. Plus, the CT is just way less desirable.

Intelligent-Rest-231 2025-08-22 12:23

Hit that wall full force baby!

Intelligent-Rest-231 2025-08-22 12:25

There must be a few douchy bro podcasters that haven’t gotten theirs yet.

Charming-Tap-1332 2025-08-22 12:25

This is some 69D level chess...

[deleted] 2025-08-22 12:33

What’s so funny about the Cybertruck isn’t even the vehicle itself. It’s the people who own them. Virtually no work is being done in these trucks and they’re purchased to make a statement.  It’s a G Wagon for people who grew up in a trailer park.

CaptainMegaNads 2025-08-22 12:42

Probably just trying to cook up NPV for the inevitable tax write off due to loss.

CaptainMegaNads 2025-08-22 12:45

PLEASE DON'T compare the failwagen to the G-Wagon. Such blasphemy, even for Reddit! 😀

Beezelbubba 2025-08-22 12:50

Should do wonders for sales. 2k a quarter secured

know_limits 2025-08-22 12:58

“Hey, we are not making enough money selling these, but I have an idea, just raise the price and we will get more money!”

PalmHills 2025-08-22 13:06

Cybertruck is such a fail, but I wondered if they figured the only market for it is people who are price insensitive. If you already cared about money at all, you'd never buy this over other cars.

[deleted] 2025-08-22 13:08

An excellent point made by you! There isn’t a price hike if no units are sold. 😊

mrpopenfresh 2025-08-22 13:09

At first I was thinking fleet vehicle for some poor agency, but target practice makes much more sense.

Bdowns_770 2025-08-22 13:28

That’s true in a vacuum but in this case the brand is so damaged they won’t be able to price their way out of trouble. It’s a car company (sorry, not a tech company), they need to move units. Even Mercedes is pivoting to volume again.

carlivar 2025-08-22 13:31

G-Wagon was the douchiest vehicle to drive prior to the Cybertruck, so yes definitely comparable.

oboshoe 2025-08-22 13:31

Yea I agree. I think this is the strategy. Whether it pays off is another story. Tesla did its best when it was low volume high margin. I think they are trying to go back to those roots. Whether they can or not is another story.

Bdowns_770 2025-08-22 13:34

Time and consulting fees will tell!

d0kt0rg0nz0 2025-08-22 13:35

fElon is up to some grift or another.

wisecommenter2 2025-08-22 13:40

There's someone in my neighborhood whose Cybertruck is parked in the driveway. It hasn't been moved an inch in about four months.

PossibleCash6092 2025-08-22 14:07

It’s already being announced but they’re using it to blow them up

PossibleCash6092 2025-08-22 14:08

Based on your comment, the stock just tripled

Purplebuzz 2025-08-22 14:21

There are enough stupid people out there who want one and will pay the extra.

Buddycat350 2025-08-22 14:33

Well, duh, they had to sacrifice a CT for the pic. No way that it gets out of there by itself.

[deleted] 2025-08-22 14:38

Elmo is an idiot, plain and simple. An out of touch simpleton surrounded by yes men.

VirginiaLuthier 2025-08-22 14:43

I live in a pretty rural area and saw one in the wild for the first time recently. One cannot appreciate how incredibly ugly they are until you see one up close....

GonzoVeritas 2025-08-22 15:16

It's actually skyrocketing today, probably because the fundamentals got even worse. Calling TSLA a meme stock is an affront to other meme stocks. TSLA is in a scam category of its own.

Graywulff 2025-08-22 15:49

did they fix the initial issues? I remember they were really dangerous when they came out, but they seem to keep using them?

Graywulff 2025-08-22 15:51

someone didn't want to stop for a crosswalk, tried to make their 2020 Y seem like it was a fancy car, I told them if 3-6 cells of the 4000 cells per battery pack died, the car wouldn't be worth fixing, and it wasn't worth as much as a 2021 mazda3, if she could even sell it, I wished her luck with her life and walked off.

Aaarya 2025-08-22 15:52

A military contract will buy them all for target training I heard.. thanks US tax payer I guess.

MustBeThisHeight 2025-08-22 16:01

Same shitty truck.

Maximum-Objective-39 2025-08-22 16:04

I think they mean the Osprey

nexusx86 2025-08-22 16:10

Not after he said Trump is in the Epstein files.

johnnyhandbags 2025-08-22 16:36

This. Fanboys probably aren’t price conscious and likely opt for premium options anyway. Most of us would never buy one regardless of price.

Free_Range_Lobster 2025-08-22 16:36

They "fix" them for a while, then they fall out of the sky again, there's a bunch of falsified records, wash rinse repeat.

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-22 18:03

If you're so far gone up Elons butt that you'd buy a Cybertruck to begin with, they're going to treat you like the mark you are.

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-22 18:06

I'm guessing you were in the crosswalk, and words were exchanged?

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-22 18:07

The wavy side panels are just *chefs kiss*

suboptimus_maximus 2025-08-22 18:15

They must have made more parts for that Luxe Package than they’ve had takers.

Graywulff 2025-08-22 18:32

yeah I had the walk light, she put down the window to tell me off, words were exchanged.

JJonVinyl 2025-08-22 21:51

For what it’s worth, ALL stocks performed well today.

ephix 2025-08-22 23:50

Well selling them cheaper wasn’t working.

AgentSmith187 2025-08-23 01:39

Its probably bricked and they dont want to admit it lol

AgentSmith187 2025-08-23 01:40

Its also seriously good off road.

Makemeacyborg 2025-08-23 02:41

Exactly this. The shameless of the corruption. Sickening

SentinelZero 2025-08-23 03:19

Not really, the Osprey has a major gearbox/transmission issue that increases the risk of engine failure and its also a flaw in the overall design; tiltrotor aircraft are very difficult to autorotate to the ground if one engine fails so in the Osprey's case if one engine goes the aircraft becomes very difficult to control and oftentimes that ends fatally. Its hard to imagine this issue being fixed without a major redesign of the aircraft.

Xollector 2025-08-23 04:39

100% this

enriqu3z23 2025-08-23 06:39

Cuz of tariffs?
