Tesla continues to lose customers in Canada. Can it ever bounce back?

Nope. Canadians have self-respect.

0Rider 2025-08-15 21:22

They don't even really drink American booze anymore. And Canadians love to drink

crikett23 2025-08-15 21:37

Can it ever bounce back? Of course. "Ever" implies a pretty long period of time, and "bounce back" itself is a pretty ambiguous term. So the potential for an improvement of some kind towards a previous state, between now and the heat death of the universe definitely seems possible. Likely though? That will depend on what happens from here. The CEO has made the brand toxic in almost all markets, and any significant bounce back seems very unlikely with his continued connection. Complicating that is the fact that his connection may be the key reason for stock over-valuation, so seperating from him as a way to move on becomes problematic. So, while it is possible, the question really is more about how long they stay on their current trajectory until they face a reality that they have to move on from Musk, and that when that happens, will the brand be able to remove that scent of toxicity he has put on it, which will become more difficult the longer he remains connected.

tomdurk 2025-08-15 21:39

No. Should it bounce back? No

ZiskaHills 2025-08-15 21:51

I'm a Canadian who just bought one... I have this mental thing where I can separate the product from the person. Sure Elon is an idiot, who decided to hitch a ride with an even bigger idiot, but it doesn't mean that Tesla makes bad cars, or that I shouldn't want to own one just because the owner of the company is the type of person that he is. Also, I support every action reasonable to support Canadian sovereignty from actual attacks, (economic and otherwise), from our problem neighbours downstairs.

sunsetman120 2025-08-15 21:53

Tesla Inc. is on a troubling trajectory, something confirmed by its second-quarter earnings. Its revenue declined 12 per cent year over year to US $22.5 billion, operating margins collapsed to 4.1 per cent and vehicle deliveries dropped 14 per cent to 384,122 units. In Canada, the plunge has been even more dramatic, with Tesla vehicle registrations dropping 67 per cent in the first six months of 2025. Quebec had the biggest drop, with only 524 new Tesla vehicles sold between January and March 2025, a decline of nearly 85 per cent from the 5,097 units registered in the final months of 2024.

LightMission4937 2025-08-15 21:53

No. As long as lying pelon is involved it's in shambles.

sunsetman120 2025-08-15 21:53

85% decline in 6 months.

ProdigalSheep 2025-08-15 21:55

It won’t as long as Musk is involved.

Senior-Comparison-87 2025-08-15 21:59

That’s called projection. You’d like people not to laugh at you for buying a Tesla. Good luck with that. Canadians don’t buy Tesla because it’s run by a man who said we are not a real country. Your car will depreciate more than other brands as Tesla’s continue to lose relevance in Canada.

Aggravating_Exit2445 2025-08-15 22:03

Tesla was on our list of potential next cars until Musk went MAGA. We will never by a Tesla ever.

Shootels 2025-08-15 22:13

No, you are supporting a company where the worth makes the CEO able to buy elections. You are directly/indirectly contributing to your country’s( and potentially the world’s) pain and suffering in that regard. The only power we people have anymore is voting with our wallets because everything else is controlled by oligarchs. Good luck with the mental gymnastics you need to feel better about the purchase. Hope it was a good deal.

kugelblitz_100 2025-08-15 22:19

The market values the company at over a trillion dollars. Apparently Elon could take a dump on the quarterly earnings call and the stock would go up.

ShotBandicoot7 2025-08-15 22:24

Yeah but then again the whole valuation is built on robotaxis and optimus. Add some xAI merger conspiracies. Huge gamble. If you got balls you short the living hell out of your portfolio. But prepare for a green candle to obliterate your position. 🍈 X posted himself that shorts will be obliterated. Evidence that for TSLA the stock is the product.

Samus860 2025-08-15 22:25

I mean, they do make bad cars. Good luck with it.

namotous 2025-08-15 22:26

> can it ever bounce back? Hopefully not!

biograf_ 2025-08-15 22:30

Fellow Canadian here. Will happily give you the finger if I see you driving around my neighbourhod.

HarryCareyGhost 2025-08-15 22:39

Not troubling to me

Grunge4U 2025-08-15 22:42

I wish more americans had the same conviction that canadians do. Musk has actually done more harm to the U.S. than he has to Canada.

AngrySoup 2025-08-15 22:42

Donald Trump and the Republicans are attacking Canadian sovereignty. Elon Musk funds Donald Trump and the Republicans. You fund Elon Musk. > Also, I support every action reasonable to support Canadian sovereignty from actual attacks, (economic and otherwise), from our problem neighbours downstairs. Bullshit.

New_Half_6055 2025-08-15 22:46

He also just claimed that Tesla's ai is far superior to Google's 😂😂 anything else?

Inevitable_Butthole 2025-08-15 22:57

Canadians have self respect so no I'm sure Americans will still buy em tho

ShotBandicoot7 2025-08-15 22:57

Yeah his X feed is kind of annoying. He is on a Grok imagine meme reposting spree, at it for days. I mean alright, we get it, Groks make meme videos. Great achievement for a machine that burns through 1b$ a month.

gmwdim 2025-08-15 22:58

Aside from Elon, the cars also suck.

47fromheaven 2025-08-15 22:59

I haven’t really considered my next car being an electric. Going to take a good long look at the hybrids first. Having said that I’m just wondering how some of the other brands of electric vehicles compare in price and reliability to a Tesla. I would never consider buying a Tesla just because of Musk. I do wonder where the technology is at with electric cars when you look across the entire field of what’s out there.

Ordinary-Map-7306 2025-08-15 23:01

Just looking at Toronto it feels like 25% drive a Tesla. :)

47fromheaven 2025-08-15 23:01

I don’t understand that logic at all. I would never support somebody financially who is at odds with what I believe. There are options in the marketplace. That’s the same attitude I have when it comes to anything that the Weston family owns here in Canada. I stay away from their businesses as much as I can.

Acceptable-Peace-69 2025-08-15 23:03

How long did it take for Volkswagen and Porsche to bounce back after ww2?

Pewterslk 2025-08-15 23:03

Nope unless they do something like: make the EAP the default AP

discovery999 2025-08-15 23:05

Hmmm. Comments like “Canada is not a real country” will reflect sales for years. That comment alone indicates Elon doesn’t give a sh&t about Canada. So be it.

krishtian1990 2025-08-15 23:08

Money talks, grocery stores already prove it when you have strawberries from US 3 times cheaper than made in Canada…

requinmarteau 2025-08-15 23:16

Well, American strawberries are also disgusting compared to the local option. I am blessed to live 20 minutes from L'Île-d'Orleans. They are ridiculously better than anything imported.

krishtian1990 2025-08-15 23:17

They are, I completely agree. Same as Tesla garbage and can’t offer anything that EU or Chinese can’t do for cheaper

requinmarteau 2025-08-15 23:22

The thing is that the Circuit électrique is a much bigger network than the Tesla supercharger network. Better locations too. Added bonus you give money to our collective wealth, not a fascist asshole.

Musicman12456 2025-08-15 23:27

Canadian here in a big city. I've owned 2 over the last 8yrs and will never buy anything again associated with Musk. The dealer near my house is overflowing with inventory. Only seen a handful of the new MY's on the road. No one is buying them.

WildFlowLing 2025-08-15 23:28

Even if musk leaves or is booted from tesla, I could never support or buy a tesla knowing it enriches Elon since he is a significant shareholder.

potatodrinker 2025-08-15 23:30

Only on impact with a hard immovable surface

wintertash 2025-08-15 23:36

I can’t speak to Porsche as a whole, but the VW situation is actually kinda complicated. VW wasn’t really an automaker before the end of the war. The Volkswagen, or KDF Wagon was a *product* made in state factories, but not exactly a corporation. After the war, the Brits took over the production factory, rebuilt it, and got cars rolling off the line in no small part for the use of occupation forces. This British operation was eventually handed over to the Germans and modern VW was born. Because the modern company comes about through Allied actions, and because most of the world had never heard of VW or the Volkswagen car (or Kublewagen or Schimmenwagen), before 1945, it hits the market without a lot of the stigma and harsh economic restrictions that Mercedes or BMW had.

ls40098 2025-08-15 23:40

There are many, many other EV's that are better than Tesla. Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Toyota...... superior fit and finish. Easily serviced. They one Ace Tesla used to have was their charging network. I love my M3. But will never consider buying a new Tesla again.

Dilapidated_girrafe 2025-08-15 23:42

Canadians don’t like Nazis.

Usual_Retard_6859 2025-08-16 01:10

To be fair prices have risen up to 21% due to China EV tariffs and counter tariffs on autos that have no Canadian parts or production. Also he’s a dick

[deleted] 2025-08-16 02:17

Nope. Tesla is cooked unless they oust Elon.

friendIdiglove 2025-08-16 02:48

I wish Elon Musk had a conviction.

friendIdiglove 2025-08-16 02:54

Thank you my fellow (North) American.

nlaak 2025-08-16 03:44

> it doesn't mean that Tesla makes bad cars It doesn't, but they do. >that I shouldn't want to own one just because the owner of the company is the type of person that he is. You seem fine with the idea of sending him money. > Also, I support every action reasonable to support Canadian sovereignty from actual attacks, (economic and otherwise), from our problem neighbours downstairs. By sending money to someone that has openly mocked your country and supported the man that wanted to destroy your sovereignty?

[deleted] 2025-08-16 04:48

If we did a SWOT analysis for Tesla, Elon would appear in all 4 boxes.

AgentSmith187 2025-08-16 05:53

It used to be true for the USA too. Used to be....

AgentSmith187 2025-08-16 05:56

The Koreans and Euopeans make some mighty fine EVs. Especially if you appreciate an interior that isnt cheap tablet in the middle of the dash for everything. The Chinese make some amazing value for money EVs too but I believe tariffs may still be an issue in many markets.

AgentSmith187 2025-08-16 06:00

Dont try and use logic on an Elongelical. They love the taste of boot more than anything else. When their Swasticar breaks down and Tesla service treats them like shit they will pray to Elone and tell everyone how much they still love the car and how its still the best car ever even if it has spent more time in service and not been fixed than they have had it to drive.

iftlatlw 2025-08-16 06:08

The brand is fatally wounded. Electric cars at hybrids will sell very well and grow, however Tesla will now falter until it fades away.

chat-lu 2025-08-16 06:54

> I mean, the CEO literally said "Canada is not even a real country" to his millions of followers on X That’s actually something that you’ll hear within Canada. We’ve been saying for years that Canada is the 51st state / murica light too. However, the thing is, **we** can say that. Musk can fuck off.

Sharaku_US 2025-08-16 07:43

That is true.

kenneth_dart 2025-08-16 09:23

They drive terribly anyway, you're not missing out. EV6/Ioniq 5 are way better.

kenneth_dart 2025-08-16 09:25

Some AI writing here. That's for sure. Better not be Grok at least.

Dilapidated_girrafe 2025-08-16 10:30

I hate Nazis still but yeah. So many people in the US straight up are cuddling up to them and it’s scary how fast people will support them.

Objective_Mousse7216 2025-08-16 10:44

I hope they bounce back in the year fucking never ever.

ShotBandicoot7 2025-08-16 10:47

Lol, just imagining this. Could actually well make a pump. You should Xweet him, maybe he will take it up. His posts and responses are random enough, anyway.

dharmoslap 2025-08-16 12:59

I can bounce back, but it shouldn't.

aea403yyc 2025-08-16 13:00

Canadian and Tesla owner here. I’m on my third Tesla (purchased a new Model X Plaid in 2022 before Edolf Muskrat went crazy). I will never buy another Tesla again.

ToweringTulips 2025-08-16 13:35

Tant pis, as my French Canadian friend would say.

TortyPapa 2025-08-16 14:25

Canada has set up some great trade agreements since getting out from the US’s shadow. We are trading more now with the EU, UK and Asia Pacific. Once more affordable or even higher end options are available here in Canada I don’t see the need to ever favour a Tesla.

FutureBiotechVenture 2025-08-16 17:04

Made me laugh

amplaylife 2025-08-16 18:35

Fuck Tesla

SuperF91EX 2025-08-16 18:57

No

stopslappingmybaby 2025-08-16 18:59

Reject all tainted by Musk. Simple rule.

miskozicar 2025-08-16 19:25

I want government to lift tarifa from Chinese EVs.

dogmatum-dei 2025-08-16 20:07

Ahh, that would be NO.

ad-astra-specta 2025-08-16 20:13

Neither do most of us Yanks!

ad-astra-specta 2025-08-16 20:14

With a 10-20 year sentence.

[deleted] 2025-08-16 23:01

Fck tesla lol

Moist_Farmer3548 2025-08-16 23:57

There are more Americans who will like the sound of this than Canadians. I mean, the entire population of Canada.

Real_Ad4422 2025-08-17 03:10

We love a good liar, apparently. USA after DJT is going to be a dumpster fire.

Purplebuzz 2025-08-17 03:17

If Canadians become as racist and bigoted as Americans then maybe.

EconomicMasterpiece 2025-08-17 03:33

When Musk tried to interfere with politics in Canada a few years back is when I knew he was going looney. It was all down hill from there.

[deleted] 2025-08-17 07:31

Yeah but the darn thing is, its actually true.

Loud_Sea424 2025-08-17 12:41

When I bought my Tesla in 2021 everybody congratulated me for my effort to save the planet, now it is nothing but derision. Still, by far, the best car I have ever owned. Previous cars included Mercedes, Audi and BMW

HiramAbiff2020 2025-08-17 12:51

It can if it replaces the ceo.

admin_default 2025-08-17 13:21

Canada arrested Elon’s grandpa for being a Nazi simp during WWII. When Nazi gramps was released he left the country and took his family to a place where a lot of his Nazi buddies were going to hide - Apartheid South Africa. Canada has always stuck it to the Musks for their abhorrent deeds and for that, I salute you.

FutureBiotechVenture 2025-08-17 15:29

Interesting information! Can you please share a source/reference? Thanks

Bravadette 2025-08-17 18:25

It is a kind of magical thinking to believe you separating the product from the CEO/board member *in your mind* suddenly makes your purchase non-supportive of a Nazi.

SDK9 2025-08-17 19:06

I agree with your sentiment, but unfortunately every single EV from the companies listed will leave you disappointed compared to your model 3. Between the driving dynamics, speed, charging network, and price, the Tesla blows out of the water anything not made by a Chinese EV manufacturer.

Sharkwatcher314 2025-08-17 19:46

One thing I don’t get even as a memestock it’s shocking how little numbers affect its valuation

Positive-Level-5396 2025-08-17 21:52

Why take shots at our neighbours just outta nowhere lol

beren12 2025-08-17 23:43

Unless you like buttons, stalks, CarPlay, etc.

beren12 2025-08-17 23:44

Nope, you support and fund an open Nazi. And the regime doing so much damage to the world.

Bates419 2025-08-18 01:46

Tariffs added nearly $20K to the price, and Govt rebates have been discontinued. I suspect if both those were reversed we wouldn't be hearing about such a slump.

bullrider_21 2025-08-18 04:02

Musk supports Trump who ended the tax and emission credits for EVs. All these are meant to encourage the use of pollution-emitting petrol cars.

debruyneonetouch 2025-08-18 11:15

I have a 2024 M3 and love it. We wanted to replace our beater car with a used EV. Drove a few non-Tesla but ended up with a 2022 M3. Drove a Mustang but it was bigger than wife wanted and very sluggish. Kona just not as nice, but cheaper. Did not drive an Ioniq6, too ugly.

Spoke_ca 2025-08-18 11:39

So you say. Yet the "good people on both sides" guy was elected again.

Ok-Meet-4883 2025-08-19 01:37

I disagree. There are a lot of nice other EVs out there now.

LaughLegit7275 2025-08-19 14:48

There are millions more side with you on this one. That’s why Tesla dominant used EV market, people are dumping it like it is plague.

LaughLegit7275 2025-08-19 14:50

By the way, drive Tesla, which is a giant golf cart, on highway, feels like live and sleep with a plastic doll than real girlfriend: it is cheap, reliable, but dumb horrible no excitement feels stupid all the time.

ProofArtistic 2025-08-20 01:18

Tesla is light years ahead. I just completed a 11 drive to Quebec all on FSD. No other vehicle has the same capability’s at the moment. I don’t agree with everything Elon does, but I don’t agree 100% with anyone. He has done more good than bad.

Pergatory_Heights 2025-10-29 00:41

No, he has done more bad than good. He has done some really innovative things and he is a genius. You can't take that away from him. He did however properly screw up the US government and has divided so many people with his rhetoric. For that, he owes an unrepayable debt to society.
