Tesla leads price cuts as US EV sales post 2nd-best month ever

Far_Addition1210 | 2025-08-15 17:19 | 220 views

Tesla sales are actually down on last year. US EV sales are surging as prices dip and automakers pile on record incentives to clear out inventory before the $7,500 EV tax credit vanishes, according to Kelley Blue Book’s latest numbers. The average price for a new EV in July was $55,689, down 2.2% from June and 4.2% lower than a year ago. Leading the price drop was Tesla, which averaged $52,949 last month, down 2.4% from June and a hefty 9.1% year-over-year. Tesla sweetened the deal with bigger incentives in July, which helped boost sales compared to June, though they still trailed last year’s numbers. A higher share of the more affordable Model 3 and Model Y also helped push Tesla’s average price down.

Pull ahead sales before expiration of $7,500 tax credit. Q3 and Q4 sales are going to to be an epic collapse.

Far_Addition1210 2025-08-15 17:34

A lower price, cheaper models , surging market, and the sales are still down on last year.

ObviouslyJoking 2025-08-15 17:38

Tesla offering the biggest discounts while sales surge for everyone but them. Weird. I wonder why their sales go down when other brands are up.

transsolar 2025-08-15 17:42

It's a mystery!

MonsieurReynard 2025-08-15 17:43

I too can Nazi why

Purplebuzz 2025-08-15 17:47

Drug using Nazi CEO can’t help.

PerfectPercentage69 2025-08-15 17:51

Musk and Tesla are too reich leaning politically for the EV-buying demographic.

Brave_Nerve_6871 2025-08-15 18:02

Concerning.

mapquestt 2025-08-15 18:33

Because the tax credit ended recently. These sales are just an outlier of a broader trend of declining sales.

Beezelbubba 2025-08-15 18:58

Just wait till October 1st

Im_Orange_Joe 2025-08-15 19:04

Believe it or not—stock goes to the moon.

CowEducational7672 2025-08-15 19:11

Thanks for stopping by Tesla, goodbye!

Fockelot 2025-08-15 19:11

To be führer they’ve also pissed off the reich side too.

[deleted] 2025-08-15 19:17

Truer words have never been spoken! Tesla US sales will completely collapse starting October 1, 2025.

[deleted] 2025-08-15 19:19

While the trend in Tesla sales is decidedly downward, because of the soon to end US $7,500 tax incentives, it is certainly possible that Tesla sales will be up during July and the rest of the third quarter. After that, Tesla sales will absolutely collapse.

avatarroku157 2025-08-15 19:27

they really think the price is the problem, dont they.....?

Denjek 2025-08-15 19:53

Loved my Tesla, but had to sell because of Musk. Dude is toxic, and people just don’t want to be associated with that.

gmwdim 2025-08-15 19:58

Executives trying to temporarily inflate the numbers and then dump their stock.

Same_Question_307 2025-08-15 21:24

Really? You HAD to sell? You people lead a hard life. Hope you’ve sold you’re Nespresso so you can distance yourself from Nestlé

AbleDanger12 2025-08-15 21:38

Every time I see a new one on the road I'm reminded there's dummies out there that are okay with it. And it's disappointing.

AbleDanger12 2025-08-15 21:38

They just know that most people will buy on price regardless of the fact they're supporting the asshat that effected a coup against their own country.

pzerr 2025-08-15 21:46

Many they must be taking a huge hit on profits. Dropping prices while at the same time they are seeing a decline in sales year over year.

pzerr 2025-08-15 21:50

Ya this next quarter may even be reasonable. But the next two are going to be horrendous. Not only is the tax credit going away, but a great number of people will be moving their purchase ahead a few months to take advantage of it. It would not surprise me if sales drop 75% the following months and only start to see some recovery in a year or two. And that recovery will be starting at a very low level.

[deleted] 2025-08-15 22:02

There’s lots of great EV alternatives. What did you replace your Tesla with???

Denjek 2025-08-15 22:08

2022 Volvo XC60 plugin hybrid. I don’t like it and will likely trade it in as soon as I’m able to do so.

g_rich 2025-08-15 22:08

I just picked up a Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium eAWD with extended range battery and got over $11k off MSRP when everything was said and done. I had an EV on my radar and was planning on purchasing one before the end of the year or early next year, the discounts tied to the end of the tax credit just moved up the timeline a bit. I suspect this will be a common theme among EV buyers up until the end of September.

Rude_Citron9016 2025-08-15 22:11

They’ll just cut prices and magically still be profitable. I tend to think the incentives just allowed them to keep margins higher than otherwise. (Which I didn’t mind since it was to help transition to electric)

[deleted] 2025-08-15 22:12

This seems pretty likely. Same thing with residential solar, spike in sales before expiration of 30% federal tax credit at end of the year followed by a big contraction

GhostofBreadDragons 2025-08-15 22:26

I will update hate for them to brick my car during bankruptcy.

Equivalent_Bison9078 2025-08-15 23:15

Wow the most high tech fully self driving (any second now, Elon just has to flip a switch!!) car isn’t selling ?? This is shocking!!!

Even-Leave4099 2025-08-15 23:19

True and unfortunately it will affect other EVs as well.

Sharkwatcher314 2025-08-15 23:38

Just a misunderstanding /s

[deleted] 2025-08-15 23:50

If you look at Tesla’s financial reports you’ll see their profit margins have continued to shrink. If Tesla were to cut prices on the Model 3 and Model Y by $7,500, Tesla’s profit margin would turn negative (big losses). Tesla simply cannot afford to cut prices to fully offset the loss of the $7,500 tax credit in the US.

yugami 2025-08-16 01:47

Sales down + price down equals profit gone. Thankfully they have the diner to fall back on

[deleted] 2025-08-16 03:18

If you go back to an EV, I suggest you look for a slightly used Honda Prologue. I test drove one this week and it’s really nice. As a used they will be really inexpensive - - a Great deal IMHO

TheFan88 2025-08-16 07:14

Tesla is a socialist car company. Only existing due to social good of redistributing taxes to make the business work. Their only hope now of profits is bitcoin holdings.

Far_Addition1210 2025-08-16 09:13

It only took 6 years to build, so by the time the last Tesla rolls off the production line, the second diner will open, and revenue replaced seamlessly.

ttkk1248 2025-08-16 13:12

“Moving fast, breaking things” is actually “Moving fast, destroying things”

Blog_Pope 2025-08-16 14:06

Sounds like the stock is about to go through the roof!! Did you hear Musks latest repeat of unrealistic thing they will do in 6 months!

Practical_Jump3770 2025-08-17 01:05

Great product at a good price

Standard_Brush1403 2025-08-17 02:05

They just gave Elon $29 billion worth of stocks. Doesn’t seem like something a company would do if it’s worried about profits.

ChollyWheels 2025-08-17 05:03

No. Mars.

ad-astra-specta 2025-08-17 07:39

Hard to have much kampfidence in the brand these days.

ad-astra-specta 2025-08-17 07:40

Mkving.fast, running over things.

Practical_Jump3770 2025-08-17 09:34

Humans tend to shop price That’s why there’s Walmarts everywhere

Mansos91 2025-08-17 13:18

So more ev sales but less tesla sales? Tsla up 30% becasue this is solid numbers am I right

Superb_Literature547 2025-08-18 08:05

They didn't pay for it the shareholders got their stock diluted.

generally_unsuitable 2025-08-18 15:43

Sounds like somebody needs a better bonus package.

Efficient-Coat3437 2025-08-18 23:27

Why

AbleDanger12 2025-08-19 00:06

You know why. Don’t ask questions in bad faith.

Efficient-Coat3437 2025-08-19 01:45

It’s a car. Nothing more nothing less

ChollyWheels 2025-08-20 07:29

That's why it's planning a really inexpensive full-featured "Model 2" made efficiently with a super-new "un-boxed" manufacturing process that will whip everyone. Oh, wait..
