Pull ahead sales before expiration of $7,500 tax credit. Q3 and Q4 sales are going to to be an epic collapse.

A lower price, cheaper models , surging market, and the sales are still down on last year.

Tesla offering the biggest discounts while sales surge for everyone but them. Weird. I wonder why their sales go down when other brands are up.

Truer words have never been spoken! Tesla US sales will completely collapse starting October 1, 2025.
[deleted]
2025-08-15 19:19
While the trend in Tesla sales is decidedly downward, because of the soon to end US $7,500 tax incentives, it is certainly possible that Tesla sales will be up during July and the rest of the third quarter. After that, Tesla sales will absolutely collapse.

Many they must be taking a huge hit on profits. Dropping prices while at the same time they are seeing a decline in sales year over year.

Ya this next quarter may even be reasonable. But the next two are going to be horrendous. Not only is the tax credit going away, but a great number of people will be moving their purchase ahead a few months to take advantage of it. It would not surprise me if sales drop 75% the following months and only start to see some recovery in a year or two. And that recovery will be starting at a very low level.

I just picked up a Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium eAWD with extended range battery and got over $11k off MSRP when everything was said and done. I had an EV on my radar and was planning on purchasing one before the end of the year or early next year, the discounts tied to the end of the tax credit just moved up the timeline a bit. I suspect this will be a common theme among EV buyers up until the end of September.

They’ll just cut prices and magically still be profitable. I tend to think the incentives just allowed them to keep margins higher than otherwise. (Which I didn’t mind since it was to help transition to electric)

This seems pretty likely. Same thing with residential solar, spike in sales before expiration of 30% federal tax credit at end of the year followed by a big contraction

If you look at Tesla’s financial reports you’ll see their profit margins have continued to shrink. If Tesla were to cut prices on the Model 3 and Model Y by $7,500, Tesla’s profit margin would turn negative (big losses). Tesla simply cannot afford to cut prices to fully offset the loss of the $7,500 tax credit in the US.

Tesla is a socialist car company. Only existing due to social good of redistributing taxes to make the business work.
Their only hope now of profits is bitcoin holdings.

It only took 6 years to build, so by the time the last Tesla rolls off the production line, the second diner will open, and revenue replaced seamlessly.
