They’re just retooling the line ready to ramp up food production

ewan82 2025-08-13 09:04

I've seen better offering at gas stations. Why is this popular?

DamnUOnions 2025-08-13 09:05

Everyone waiting for Model Y refresh

codykonior 2025-08-13 09:07

Redacted.

potatodrinker 2025-08-13 09:09

It's called "Y eat there?"

I-Pacer 2025-08-13 09:12

What happened to Muskkk’s claims of 24 hour opening and roller skating waiters? Surely he didn’t fail to deliver…

TradingTennish 2025-08-13 09:13

It’s not

CompoteDeep2016 2025-08-13 09:16

Ahahahaha

Valoneria 2025-08-13 09:24

Because of hype, thats pretty much all the Ketamine King is good at . It lives and dies with the hype

Real-Technician831 2025-08-13 09:28

Mostly dies.

Real-Technician831 2025-08-13 09:30

With the weight index being different than in 1950s, roller skating waitresses would have had extra gravity on them.

danielbot 2025-08-13 09:33

Any teslas caught fire in the parking lot yet?

danielbot 2025-08-13 09:34

What happened to the humanoid robots?

za72 2025-08-13 09:39

He got that smooth south african accent that can reel in savvy retail investors

FrogmanKouki 2025-08-13 09:45

This is like lumbar support? Maybe no one was ordering it so they removed it? Or more likely they ordered enough food for 2 weeks and failed to reorder anything because they're trying to disrupt the industry

Zorkmid123 2025-08-13 09:47

I think the initial popularity it had when it first opened was driven by the novelty of the place. Where else can you have remote control Optimus bots serving you popcorn?

MonsieurReynard 2025-08-13 09:53

Best shit sandwich in California though

SpectrumWoes 2025-08-13 09:54

Unlike the Tesla diner, the lumbar support in my RAV4 has function, value and is enjoyable

SpectrumWoes 2025-08-13 09:56

Nah let’s be real, this is in Hollywood - the pressure to be thin out there is awful.

TopStrength4880 2025-08-13 09:57

New model hotdogs and hamberders just released will take several months to ramp up

TopStrength4880 2025-08-13 09:58

One billion if the vitamin K hits right

SpectrumWoes 2025-08-13 09:59

I did lol when I saw the Optimus diner video though because it was obvious they sped it up. Imagine waiting for that slow POS to scoop up popcorn and thinking how much quicker a human could do it

mekanub 2025-08-13 09:59

Tesla stock up by 10% on this news

TopStrength4880 2025-08-13 10:00

If the robot workers get fired will they have to beg for jobs at the it's a small world ride at Disney?

TopStrength4880 2025-08-13 10:02

Don't need lumbar support when you endorse the party of spineless cowards.

Chrysolophylax 2025-08-13 10:02

Well, they're not popular. Hence the cutbacks! Elon Musk is a very stable and very smart business genius.

Engunnear 2025-08-13 10:06

*annualized burst rate

schtickshift 2025-08-13 10:07

Is the Cyberburger still on the menu?

Public-Guidance-9560 2025-08-13 10:10

I am absolutely surprised he didn't promise Optimus robots on wheels delivering your food. Imagine one of those head first through your window with a brace of tepid burgers!

Chrysolophylax 2025-08-13 10:12

Whenever Lone Stink fucks up in a new way, the situation is always stupider than I would have imagined. Like, I knew the Tesla Diner would be bad. But I didn't imagine just how pathetic it would be. And I knew it would fail. But I didn't imagine just how spectacularly and obviously it would implode. This diner fiasco can't even die off quietly and discreetly, because these drastic cuts to service are drawing lots of attention. Like a parallel Streisand effect, but for eateries instead of people.

Available_Today_2250 2025-08-13 10:13

Calls

Puzzleheaded_Arm_847 2025-08-13 10:15

Soon they will not need customers though because all the meals will be self eating.

Zorkmid123 2025-08-13 10:18

And apparently they also broke down for a while.

Chrysolophylax 2025-08-13 10:25

Oh there was an article about this last week from Eater, and it has more funny details: the head chef claims "that the 'unprecedented demand' led to the team scaling down the menu for efficiency". And also claims "soft serve ice cream would be back on the menu later this week, so the farm could meet the increased demand". [https://la.eater.com/restaurant-news/287949/tesla-diner-menu-reduced-small-los-angeles-hollywood](https://la.eater.com/restaurant-news/287949/tesla-diner-menu-reduced-small-los-angeles-hollywood)

Jaded-Albatross 2025-08-13 10:31

Convert it to an Automat format Full Self Dining

FlagFootballSaint 2025-08-13 10:31

Literally it SHOULD as this move reduces the losses of this branch of Tesla

Real-Technician831 2025-08-13 10:32

True, didn’t consider the locale. Elsewhere the intersection of thin, rollerskating and willing to work for Tesla may be quite thin, pun intended.

Bocifer1 2025-08-13 10:34

So I guess the future of tech bro car companies isn’t going to be burger joints Time for the next pivot to sell to the flock

Euler007 2025-08-13 10:35

Hold on, their seats don't have lumbar support?

undergroundbastard 2025-08-13 10:43

Underrated comment by far

Top-Currency 2025-08-13 10:50

1 trillion dollar company can't even run a diner. Bullish.

rudenavigator 2025-08-13 10:51

That’s a Tesler for ya.

jpk195 2025-08-13 10:51

It's fine because Tessler is an ~~electric vehicle~~ ~~solar and energy storage~~ ~~self-driving AI~~ robotics company ~~with robots diners~~

Kim_Jong_Un_PornOnly 2025-08-13 10:53

It's all computer.

[deleted] 2025-08-13 10:55

More likely they will put in a McDonald’s next door, have. Conveyor belt bringing over the food, rebadge it, yank up the price, and some idiots will buy it.

daveo18 2025-08-13 11:03

The diner served its purpose. Served as a nice distraction for some pretty ordinary Q2 numbers. The fans got some pics to roll out on social media (even the remote controlled bot got a run) Now the adulation has died down, time to cut back on costs, like everything else Musk touches.

SpectrumWoes 2025-08-13 11:04

Don’t forget the guy paid to sweep up all the popcorn it dumped on the floor

FrogmanKouki 2025-08-13 11:06

They removed it from the passenger seats after they said "it wasn't being used"

foersom 2025-08-13 11:06

Hotdog prepay reservation list open now. Payments non refundable.

foersom 2025-08-13 11:08

It was too difficult to make Optimus robot learn to roller skate.

Trades46 2025-08-13 11:09

How very typical Musk. Grandiose promises, flashy entrance and novelty, completely paper thin facade and collapses on its own shortly after.

Elon personally sleeping in the kitchen trying to optimize the cooking. He will soon claim he knows more about cooking, serving and running a diner than anyone on earth.

So stock goes up?

Engunnear 2025-08-13 11:31

[deleted] 2025-08-13 11:59

Now that would be a funny sight

syrvyx 2025-08-13 12:07

Having to make cuts during the period when the place will arguably have the most customers due to hype... The death spiral begins, unless he's willing to let it take a massive loss and hide the numbers with other services like FSD so he can make stuff up. Nobody fails as good as musk!

WhitePineBurning 2025-08-13 12:23

KTLA reviewed the breakfast options. Did not disappoint. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8kKUfgd/

salyavin 2025-08-13 13:21

texas-playdohs 2025-08-13 13:24

dtyamada 2025-08-13 13:48

They actually ordered more food but didn't realize it needed to be refrigerated and couldn't sit out in the LA heat ... so they had to scale back the offerings ;)

mikefjr1300 2025-08-13 13:51

*“We opened the Tesla Diner to revolutionize food the same way we did transportation, just like the original Roadster that’s still ‘coming soon,’ Full Self-Driving that’s always a year away, the Cybertruck with bulletproof windows that didn’t quite hold up, and the Boring Company’s ‘city-wide’ tunnel network that’s currently one 1.7-mile loop in Vegas - we’re starting small."* *"Fewer menu items, shorter hours, then we scale to infinity and beyond. By 2027, you’ll be able to order a burger from Mars… once the colony is up and running, of course.”* \- (probably not) Elon Musk

FrogmanKouki 2025-08-13 15:24

Probably saw that it saved them $5. So it was a worthy removal

EarthConservation 2025-08-13 15:41

The insane amount of media coverage this diner has gotten is what's really astounding. It's a fucking charging location with a, thus far, one-off Tesla owned two story custom bespoke designed diner attached. This isn't exactly a billion dollar venture... Yum brands is worth $40 billion... but they have 61,000 locations world wide, making each restaurant worth about $655,000. They also sell products in grocery stores. Tesla has 2700 charging stations in the US total, so even if each location had a diner that adds $655k to Tesla's market cap, that would only increase their market cap by $1.8 billion, or about 0.18%. That is... if these restaurants were well oiled machines with huge economies of scale due to volume and central distribution of ingredients. They're not, and will almost certainly never be. The fact that this restaurant is taking up a huge lot in LA's Hollywood neighborhood, was built from scratch, is a one-off with no supply chain, and is offering fairly low prices on the food (for the region), means that this is almost certainly losing money with each day going by. Tesla will obviously never sell this location, given that it's a glorified publicity stunt for the company... but if they did... who exactly would buy it? It would cost a fortune!

homoiconic 2025-08-13 16:03

If you're evaluating this establishment as a diner, you're... You're using the wrong model. This is an AI and Robotics company that happens to serve food while it collects training data. Although the reduction of menu items may seem like a sign of failure in the legacy dining industry, this gives Tesla an unprecedented ability to scale.

homoiconic 2025-08-13 16:07

Tesla's lawyers will shortly be in touch to point out that the Optimus FSD disengaged moments before the robots fell head-first down the stairs, so that doesn't count.

WildFlowLing 2025-08-13 16:10

Every Tesla tard already marked this down in their diary as a resounding success. They already forgot about the diner and so any bad news is irrelevant to them. That’s how the Elon grift train works.

letsgobernie 2025-08-13 16:11

Model Yuck not selling well

TheDogsPaw 2025-08-13 16:13

Chris0288 2025-08-13 16:21

I’m sure FSD end to end stack 14.5.6.5.43.5.8.9 will solve this. Magnitude of 5 more compute and tokens or something…

XmasNavidad 2025-08-13 16:29

Ah, smart to be early to the market. I read in the Tesla Q2 rapport they are planning to open the Tesla Diner on Mars in 2027* *May be subject to delays

[deleted] 2025-08-13 16:59

Elon musk fails at yet another thing. What's next in his failure bonanza?

ThankuConan 2025-08-13 17:22

Cutting hours as their capacity diminishes over time is just so a "Tesla" thing. As they get closer to the finish line they'll end up shutting completely to align with the FSD experiment. The world just isn't ready for Full Self Dining.

Low_Shirt2726 2025-08-13 17:28

Yeah no joke. Buccee's has better food and 7-11 has decent pizzas, hotdogs, and breakfast sandwiches.

Visual_Collar_8893 2025-08-13 17:33

Because it’s ‘S3XY’, but not ‘2’.

keef-keefson 2025-08-13 17:37

Full Self-Dining is nearly ready - you just need to bring your own food, your own oven and your own tables and chairs.

SoCalLynda 2025-08-13 17:44

Hey, Musk already has one scary pedo clown to deal with.

SoCalLynda 2025-08-13 17:47

SoCalLynda 2025-08-13 17:48

Cyberbeque

SoCalLynda 2025-08-13 17:53

Musk looks like the most streamlined potato ever built. The diner just needs to translate his Cyberpotato shape to the actual potatoes.

MoleMoustache 2025-08-13 18:20

In 1 year this diner will be open on Mars, serving our Optimus robot fleet and Starship passengers only the best in absolutely rancid powdered food.

Maximum-Objective-39 2025-08-13 20:59

The only thing I'll say for the Tesla Diner is that it's the best looking thing Tesla has designed since . . . well . . . It's the best looking thing Tesla has designed. Hope the building is functional enough that someone can put an actually cool restaurant inside once Tesla gives up.

Full Self-Skating Humanoid Robots?

Darmok47 2025-08-13 21:40

It actually sounded like a good idea in theory. People need to charge their cars, why not gain an extra revenue stream from a diner where they could eat while charging? Im sure a more competent company could make it work.

John_Lee_Petitfours 2025-08-13 23:12

DEADB33F 2025-08-14 00:20

And the burgers will be served by robots which are tele-operated by a bunch of wage slaves locked up in the basement.

TopStrength4880 2025-08-14 00:21

How dare you it will be slaves dressed as Robots.

practicaloppossum 2025-08-14 01:05

You can't go down the stairs, they're up only - you have to take the elevator down (this is literally true, there's a guard at the top of the stairs to stop people walking down). Of course, I guess it could be that the robots fall head-first down the elevator shaft.

practicaloppossum 2025-08-14 01:16

Typical illiteracy from the writer. It seems no-one in any form of news media can write a coherent sentence now-a-days. What he meant to say was the diner hours are 6AM to midnight, for normal people. From midnight to 6AM only folk who are charging their cars can order food.

chat-lu 2025-08-14 01:21

Also for some reason the right arm keeps getting stuck raised.

Momik 2025-08-14 01:21

Anyone outside 200 feet of those two places is outside delivery range, but you don’t know that until you’ve compiled your order and added all your financial information.

New model hotdogs sound like something Cromwell would be into

Momik 2025-08-14 01:31

Eh, only if you’re in certain parts of the entertainment sector. Most of Hollywood as a neighborhood is fairly middle class, and more diverse than its metonym would suggest.

Momik 2025-08-14 01:33

Uncoordinated Robot Olympics is sitting right there. Who wouldn’t watch that?

[deleted] 2025-08-14 02:25

Service stations are pretty good idea. Tech bros somehow have the habbit of reinventing the wheel, only shittier and square shaped.

Emotional_Goal9525 2025-08-14 03:08

Think of all the possibilities. It could also serve cheese balls or cotton candy.

Emotional_Goal9525 2025-08-14 03:10

There is actually certain soviet charm to the place. I would like to visit it sometime.

$18 for a HOT DOG marked down to $13?!?!?! Y would anyone eat there?

dorchet 2025-08-14 06:19

its popular with tourists so it has that going for it. like going to vegas to watch the water fountains. low iq people are enthralled by a ... gussied up mcdonalds ? that they have to wait 2 hours in line for? making a cardboard cybertruck hamburger box was probably the second best idea. having a robot serve popcorn is probably the best idea of the diner. because kids will shit themselves if they see a robot. the same kids that probably have a robot vacuum at home. kids love those robot chuck e cheese singing dancing stuff. back when that was a thing.

The new Martian menu is almost ready, just five more years or so.

It’s funny nobody realizes what’s going on here. The city of West Hollywood doesn’t allow sites that are fully for chargers. They are heavily NIMBY. Elon said screw that and said fine I’ll build a restaurant and disguise, add some chargers there. He got a permit for a restaurant. And loopholed his way into having a super charging station in an area that he couldn’t get permission for. Nobody knows this or reports on it, but it’s really what went on. It’s hilarious seeing everyone here talk about a restaurant. When this was purely a plan to go around city permitting restrictions.

He’s still working on the SS robots, they’ll be done within the next 6 months.

juniper and superior canbus designs. You’d be fool to eat anywhere else when full self serving is so close to realization.

The diner is evolving beyond its focus on food into AI and autonomous meal compute.

AZEXECPLAT 2025-08-14 20:09

Over promised under delivered as always. What do you expect from a Swastikar company? Elonia always disappoints.

You think that’s surprising XAI is starting to hurt people in Tennessee and guess what they’re doing it without permits boy does that sound like a Muskadite or felon or a nazi. You pick

That’ll be $8,000 or $99/month, only payable in Dogecoin.

You mean a Nazi Diner isn't popular? Baffling.

JibletHunter 2025-08-19 16:22

If by ordinary you mean pretty terrible, I totally agree.  YoY declines in a growing market for a company billed as a growth stock is far from ordinary.

SavagePlatypus76 2025-08-20 21:20

So ugly. Retro futurism. Like something out of the Jetsons, but with far less humor and soul.

poshknight123 2025-08-21 10:08

I just looked at the menu and they burnt their grilled cheese. For their website photo. It looks like they "grilled" it with a torch on FSD
