Can’t wait for some robotaxi to get drunk on malware and kill a pedestrian and nobody be held criminally accountable.

jason12745 2025-08-13 11:50

Tesla is not in the game. Waymo doesn’t have a lead, they have a service available to the public and Tesla doesn’t not. There is no comparison.

I saw several last week while on a trip to San Francisco, it was cool to see them in use. I did notice a person in the passenger seat twice but I thought it was just a customer. Has anyone using these sat in the front passenger seat?

No_Pen8240 2025-08-13 12:21

Tesla will match with its new coast to coast Robotaxi. . . It just requires a driver in the car with you.

MrGelowe 2025-08-13 12:25

> Has anyone using these sat in the front passenger seat? According to https://waymo.com/faq/ only children under 8 cannot sit in the front passenger seat.

I feel like this is similar to comparing SpaceX and Blue Origin....one launches rockets every few days to orbit and the other launches rockets every few months to the karman line and right back to earth.

Tesla just has to flip a switch and they will be so much bigger. They're still looking for the switch

needssomefun 2025-08-13 13:08

Elmo will have the switch by this time next year!

Sorry-Programmer9826 2025-08-13 13:26

In the same sense that an Olympic athlete mid race "expands their lead" on me sitting in the stands watching

Ethdev256 2025-08-13 13:29

Tesla will go up 10% on this news and GOOG will stay flat.

Diligent_Ad4694 2025-08-13 13:45

Musk said they're adding vertical take off and land to all their vehicles through an over the air update!

dreadthripper 2025-08-13 13:46

that driver is your spouse. and you hate their guts for buying a tesla.

jailtheorange1 2025-08-13 13:51

Up 2% today already and the markets have just opened. How does a dying company do that?

Ethdev256 2025-08-13 13:58

Meme stock gonna meme. The arguments I've heard from people I know are "Well their debt is at low interest" and "Don't bet against Elon." So effectively, they believe the confidence man will pull it out. My question to them would be: "How many quarters of negative revenue growth would it take to shake your confidence in the stock?" I think the answer would be there is nothing that would shake them off their belief in Tesla.

linknewtab 2025-08-13 14:17

What car models is Waymo using for their expansion? Are they still adding new Jaguar i-Pace?

Dommccabe 2025-08-13 14:20

Waymo in the Olympic swimming competition and everyone asking where Tesla will place while they splashing around in the kiddie pool with floats.

meshreplacer 2025-08-13 14:35

Yeah but what musk is developing is Optimus robots that will drive you around town and doing chores for you and it will only cost 30K. Plus now he will be opening Tesla Diners all across the US.\*

meshreplacer 2025-08-13 14:36

I predict one day Musk will initiate a system zeroize sequence when he feels the end is near and is cornered. he will just brick every Tesla on the road driving or parked with the flip of the switch.

meshreplacer 2025-08-13 14:38

Tesla is a meme stock think of it like the Shitcoins of crypto ie Trollcoin etc..plus they threw TSLA into S&P 500 so everyone with an index fund is forced to buy this shit stock.

Grunge4U 2025-08-13 14:39

What I saw were 2 different adult women. Do they sometimes have employees in them?

vk_phoenix 2025-08-13 14:41

Why doesn't elon just ask optimus to drive the car, is he stupid?

Quirky_Tradition_806 2025-08-13 14:59

The term "expands" suggests that both corporations are in a tight race, neck and neck. However, in reality, Tesla has only recently launched supervised rideshare services, where an attendant is present in the car to oversee the vehicle, while another Tesla follows closely behind to ensure everything is running smoothly. When did Tesla begin offering driverless rideshare services? Bullshit!

MrGelowe 2025-08-13 15:10

It's possible but they haven't had monitors in the car since 2019.

Skyrick 2025-08-13 16:41

Nah, they will just make an agreement with the government to have people drive the cars in robot costumes for reduced sentences and below minimum wage pay.

Neceon 2025-08-13 21:20

What is most amazing in this is that Tesla squandered a huge lead into the EV marketplace and has been playing catch-up ever since.

Like the guy who drove his family off the cliff and survived?

Diligent_Ad4694 2025-08-13 23:47

Yeah he was alpha testing

cdamayor 2025-08-14 05:23

I always ride in the passenger seat, it’s more fun

Odd-Adagio7080 2025-08-14 08:01

Ha! Tesla Diner!!! Why the hell would ANYone go to a car manufacturer’s diner? It’s like, stay in your lane pal. . . Ooooh! Sorry. Not too good at that either, are they?

Grunge4U 2025-08-14 13:19

So what I saw must have been passengers like I thought. One was at a stoplight and she was just sitting back doing nothing that would make me think she was an employee. I would have tried a Waymo myself but I had my dog with me and I read that you can't bring a pet.

StumpyOReilly 2025-08-14 16:12

I understand the sarcasm, but for those who don't. Tesla has zero miles of autonomous driving to date in comparison to Waymo's 100,000,000+ fully autonomous miles driven. Tesla cannot just flip a switch to get to level 3 or 4. They first will have to accept all liability, which they have so far been reticent to do. They also don't have the necessary permits and certification in the various regions or states to drive autonomously.

Ouch259 2025-08-14 16:47

Its focused on serving popcorn. Elon thinks by 2027 it can actually make popcorn but thats subject to regulatory approval
