Article is from 2021, and things only got more embarrassing now that there’s been an accident, lol

Key-Beginning-2201 2025-08-11 03:13

The loop is the worst thing I have ever seen. It's pathetic. Just install a moving walkway.

Lichensuperfood 2025-08-11 03:41

The lengths to go to to avoid just putting a tram in. Faster with less cost....Id estimate 80% less.

imlegos 2025-08-11 03:45

Just install a fucking subway more like! Less fuel cost, more capacity.

heleuma 2025-08-11 04:06

While you were sleeping OP Snow White, 4 years have passed.

readonlycomment 2025-08-11 04:19

It is a 20 minute wait followed by a paid Tesla ride or a 20 minute walk. Walking. 100% less and faster.

automatic__jack 2025-08-11 04:33

This is a psy op. A video came out on YouTube last week showing in great detail just how pathetic the Vegas loop is, this is Elon trying to get a PR win. It’s actually scary how he can call up Fox News and get this propaganda aired.

brintoul 2025-08-11 04:35

I thought the best part of the Boring Company scam was how they planned to “revolutionize” tunneling. I wonder how that’s going. Haven’t heard of any breakthroughs.

Idntevncare 2025-08-11 04:48

it's wonderful to know elon pocked millions of tax dollars from this disaster. then got hired by the government to find "waste, fraud and abuse" many years later.

cybertruckboat 2025-08-11 05:09

This video is from 2021 on CNBC.

Roadgoddess 2025-08-11 06:15

Oh my God, I hadn’t heard there was an accident. But I have heard there’s even fewer cars operating than they were saying here. I think they said there’s something like four cars doing the loop and they all have drivers. And then some of the stops are above ground and are just a cheap metal bench that’s on the sidewalk. They failed to talk about how difficult it is to actually bore underground due to running into utilities and infrastructure. And in most places, this wouldn’t be feasible. I mean my God build a subway they can carry hundreds if not, thousands of people an hour.

bbbbbbbbbblah 2025-08-11 06:46

even a "people mover" (as used at airports) would have provided more capacity and would *actually* be autonomous

Odd-Adagio7080 2025-08-11 07:17

Ridiculously impractical. ONE lane of traffic, and the cars go in BOTH directions, so one always has to exit the loop for the other car to go past in the other direction. Oh! And the original claim was that the cars would be automated and traveling at 155mph. How’s that whole self-driving thing coming. . ?

Odd-Adagio7080 2025-08-11 07:21

The way I heard it, there’s already a monorail that not only takes people from one side of the convention center to the other, but ALSO to destinations people/tourists might actually want to go.

Darryl_Lict 2025-08-11 07:30

The monorail could have run to the airport but the taxi lobby fought it. That would have made a ton of sense.

AceMcLoud27 2025-08-11 10:08

CityNerd has a recent video on it, it really is very pathetic. https://youtu.be/VPjODKUxV5g

phate_exe 2025-08-11 12:45

>I thought the best part of the Boring Company scam was how they planned to “revolutionize” tunneling. If I remember right, the way they were able to claim they could dig tunnels faster and cheaper was just by digging smaller tunnels.

aiusepsi 2025-08-11 13:02

A [video](https://youtu.be/VPjODKUxV5g?si=anSi_qDdHemwQRZ1) I saw recently said there were only two cars running, and only one was actually serving the public as the other was doing driver training.

aiusepsi 2025-08-11 13:13

The Vegas Loop tunnels are 12 feet in diameter, which is very slightly bigger than a London Underground deep-level tube tunnel. The first of those was built in 1890 (and is still in service as the Bank branch of the Northern Line) so building tunnels that size isn’t even slightly a new idea.

Journeyman42 2025-08-11 13:52

MFers reinvented trains and made them worse lol

Aeroscorp 2025-08-11 14:19

Despite that, Nashville is set to build the same thing instead of investing in public transportation.

evarga 2025-08-11 14:30

OMG, the family waiting for their Loop Tesla, sitting on the ground, in the shade of the monorail track above them, was just so, so sad.

mrdobalinaa 2025-08-11 15:00

Its not Nashville its the state. No one in Nashville's local government is behind the project. When the local rep for the district the tunnel is proposed to fo through tried to attend a meeting they wouldnt even let him in the building.

Every business he has does the same grift. Robots. Tunnels. Cars. Rockets. Biggest rockets on the planet. Never mind the fact it’s never taken off without blowing up.

Better_Dimension2064 2025-08-11 16:25

This "system" accomplished exactly what it was designed to do: undermine any talk of Las Vegas building an actual metro.

econopotamus 2025-08-11 16:51

I've ridden that monorail, it went all sorts of useful places. From the air you could also see some of the Tesla construction pits :)

Better_Dimension2064 2025-08-11 17:03

Even some proper metros are driverless.

Smart-Effective7533 2025-08-11 17:14

This is the perfect opportunity to bring back and move Disneylands people mover to Vegas . Maybe those tunnels could actually do some good.

zexen_PRO 2025-08-11 17:28

How is falcon 9 or Starlink a grift?

ARAR1 2025-08-11 20:31

The tunnel stunt serves no purpose and never will

Aeroscorp 2025-08-11 22:23

Yep, you’re right. Totally forgot about that.

Pristine-Ad983 2025-08-12 00:11

And they're in talks to build another one of these in Tennessee.

fastwriter- 2025-08-12 12:36

And Tunnel Boring Machines exist since almost 50 years. With his „Boring Company“, there is nothing new, no Innovation. But stiff competition, thats why this Company has not sold a single Boring Machine up to now.

DEADB33F 2025-08-12 13:20

Having ebikes and scooters at the stations might work. ....Could actually be quite fun to take a bike or scooter down those tunnels. Would probably just need one or two employees to put them on charge and ride a cargo bike about to redistribute the scooters around when they start to bunch up at one station or when a station starts running low.

Splendidended1945 2025-08-13 19:27

He made the same thing in LA, but imagined that ordinary drivers would use it. A tunnel in LA, land of earthquakes, sounded like a swell death trap to me. The tunnel was too narrow, it moved too slowly, getting the cars from the surface to the tunnel was insanely slow . . . this guy just doesn't get it. These pathetic little tunnels are no good. Elon imagined he'd be building an entirely new transport system under the massive LA basin. Funnily enough, it hasn't happened . . .

bulldozer_66 2025-08-14 07:32

Put train tracks and train cars in these tunnels and make them useful.

Normal-Selection1537 2025-08-15 21:47

They aren't selling machines, they use one that Musk bought used.

brintoul 2025-08-15 21:52

Have they come up with anything new in tunneling?

y4udothistome 2025-08-16 19:30

That’s a great idea
