A complete and utter fool.

dtyamada 2025-08-07 02:39

You mean people don't love 4 sad strips of bacon for $12. Who could've seen that coming.

dd97483 2025-08-07 02:40

Over promised and barely delivered, just like so much of the Mush agenda.

spoogep78 2025-08-07 02:45

100% on brand, promise steak and chips, deliver offal and rice crackers.

BootThang 2025-08-07 02:46

The Muskrat strikes again to fleece the cult

Charming-Tap-1332 2025-08-07 02:46

I'm fairly certain Elon Musk doesn't have a clue at the percentage of people in the civilized world who absolutely hate him.

mustangfan12 2025-08-07 02:47

Seriously, once the hype dies down the resteruant will struggle to make any cash

PartyPlastic5509 2025-08-07 02:53

As long as the doors don't trap you inside while you get burned alive then it's actually well above expectations. TSLA gamma squeeze to $400 eow

michaelsenc08 2025-08-07 02:53

Wild how few comments are here. Musk is literally just Musking. Pump in the beginning, then it dies a slow, agonizing death that should have never been. After about 2018, literally everyone should have seen the writing on the wall with this guy. Fraud, waste, abuse… and the biggest welfare queen of them all is fraudster lying his way to the top. I’m sure eventually the truth will come out, but at this point, he will likely be dead halfway to mars so it won’t matter. This fucker needs to see consequences, but I am starting to believe they will never come.

[deleted] 2025-08-07 02:55

Removed the veggie burger. Now I can’t even go unless I just want a shake or a fry

cantusethatname 2025-08-07 03:00

Just another shitty, overpriced Musk product.

LaSerenita 2025-08-07 03:01

I looked at the menu and it basically sucks...not surprisingly.

FlipZip69 2025-08-07 03:12

It is crass. Big fuck off sign in front of the residential buildings and overpriced food. Like the car, it is McDonalds level food but sold at a luxury price. The difference is with McDonalds you do not go there thinking you are having a fancy meal.

[deleted] 2025-08-07 03:17

Unlike musk’s other failures this one will be comically visible when the hype dies down and people stop going to the restaurant.

Brauschweiger 2025-08-07 03:17

The Tuna Melt should have been called “Not Hot Dog”.

AustrianMichael 2025-08-07 03:20

Tesla is now a fast food giant that’s going to surpass McDonalds. Stock up +69% in a year

caintowers 2025-08-07 03:23

It could actually be a great concept. You have nothing to do but wait while charging; even if on a fast charger, it’s still gonna take a few minutes. Why not eat? And drive up diners are fun, let’s absolutely bring them back. A lot of Tesla things could be great things if executed properly. That’s why I get particularly frustrated with the company.

Ok-ChildHooOd 2025-08-07 03:23

It's a really bad time to open any restaurant in LA, but an anti-woke overpriced and underserved shithole is just gonna burn cash.

ihateandy2 2025-08-07 03:23

1 fry = $1

CryRepresentative992 2025-08-07 03:24

Hey fuck you guy, Big Macs are delicious.

ChangeMyDespair 2025-08-07 03:28

>Tesla Diner chef Eric Greenspan ... TIL😞

FlipZip69 2025-08-07 03:29

I am not criticizing McDonalds even. I like a Big Mac occasional. I just do not go there thinking I am getting a fancy meal. And I am not paying a fancy price. To tell the truth, looking at the Tesla menu in this post, it looks gross. Far worse than McDonalds. That burnt grill cheese was vile.

za72 2025-08-07 03:30

mythorus 2025-08-07 03:31

Epic!

BouncingBabyButton 2025-08-07 03:35

He has hundreds of millions of followers and is drunk on the attention he gets. Somebody needs to give him a severe dose of reality and show him how pathetic he comes across as. How an ostensively well meaning person can end up sieg heiling and not be aware of what a cunt he has become is a modern day delusion equal to any other in history and future history books won't be kind to him.

PristineEnergy4 2025-08-07 03:39

MVP Minimum viable product Why go the extra mile when it’s not going to improve margins? Why use 4 screws when three can hold it together? Elon is actually proud of this, it’s part of his ‘algorithm’ as told in his bio. The same shit driven by private equity is the guiding principle of every Elon business. His true customers are his investors.

Suck_My_Thick 2025-08-07 03:47

LOL at the grilled cheese burnt on the outside and unmleted cheese on the inside.

Teslas famous ability to execute shines again.

No-Atmosphere-2873 2025-08-07 03:51

Why would a "tech" company that is going to be worth " trillions" fuck with the difficult restaurant business ??

Krieg 2025-08-07 03:51

They reduced the menu items due to the infinite demand

[deleted] 2025-08-07 03:55

It may be expensive food, but at least it's shitty. So when can I get basic, decent windshield wiper performance?

RubberBootsInMotion 2025-08-07 03:56

It probably already does....

alatteri 2025-08-07 03:58

Ate there last night, and all three of us loved the burgers, fried chicken sandwich, fries, milkshake and Apple pie.

mrbuttsavage 2025-08-07 04:04

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-07 04:09

IKR? I'd fire any company responsible for running kitchens that put out a simple grilled cheese like that. But then, I'm not a gazillionaire super genius.

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-07 04:09

Congratulations?

Deranged_Kitsune 2025-08-07 04:10

That's pretty much my opinion as well based on everything I've read about it. If they had built the video screens so that they're oriented towards the parking spots like proper drive-in ones, so it's possible to easily watch stuff. If they had onboard ordering from the vehicle working, so you could either order ahead of time or upon arrival and someone brings it out to your spot, great. Keep a smaller dining area inside and on the roof. Be able to actually execute some classic diner fare! Even if it's not jazzed up, actually be able to make good, appealing food! And don't price it like luxury sit-down when it's clearly not.

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-07 04:10

They're "disruptive"!

I guess real tesla fans do like to pay more and get less!

thebestnames 2025-08-07 04:15

The worldwide fastfood market is valued at over 1 trillion $ So I fully, 100% logically expect the Tesla diner to generate double that in revenue maybe even 300%, that sounds like a neat number. In the future, your own tesla kitchen will cook all by itself and people will come dine at your home when you're out working! Genious! What could go wrong!?

Com4734 2025-08-07 04:23

Forget screws! Just Elmer’s glue it!

dbell333 2025-08-07 04:23

Crazy that after only two weeks it’s already being stripped back so obviously, it’s hard to hide diminished expectations at a restaurant with so much publicity surrounding it. You’d think they’d keep it going a few months at least, even if they were losing money. I’m sure they could end up losing a few tens of thousands of $ a month because restaurants are hard, but what’s a few hundred thousand bucks to a company worth, as of 8/6 at market close, a cool $1.00T…right?

robertw477 2025-08-07 04:36

Typical Musk scam.

Hiero808 2025-08-07 04:40

How were the prices?

89Hopper 2025-08-07 04:40

Didn't expect to see cum-restaurant in the very first sentence.

Aptosauras 2025-08-07 04:42

The fries are cooked in beef tallow.

Wild_Height_901 2025-08-07 04:46

I’m not really understanding the article. They are streamlining the menu and eliminating less popular items. Lots of new restaurants have done similar changes. I don’t know if it will be a long term success. But it’s a cool idea at the very least and I’m sure they will consider opening up another one in a popular spot with high charging usage.

lildobe 2025-08-07 04:57

What the hell is up with that phrasing, though? "the charging station-cum-restaurant"

Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2025-08-07 05:21

Some say “the hate is only on Reddit”. It it’s not true. My uncle - a 65yo farmer who never uses internet except for admin stuff - 6 months ago, when I was visiting him, out of the blue talked about him and said things that would get me banned from here. I really didn’t expect that, since he usually trends to be on the conservative side.

WoolshirtedWolf 2025-08-07 06:26

All those food items look like they should have generic food labeling on it. Nothing here looks particularly appetizing.

lance_baker-3 2025-08-07 06:33

In the linked article it says ***quote*** “unprecedented demand” led to the team scaling down the menu for efficiency. ***Unquote***. Is there one person out there who actually buys this illogical horseshit?

SisterOfBattIe 2025-08-07 06:36

Musk is trying to innovate and disrupt the stale Diner market with his totally new and transformative, proprietary Tesla Diner. Sure, it looks like guys that never did diners before, and cobbled together a diner ignoring all lessons in diner building, implementing the IDEA Musk has of a diner (nor that Musk has ever eaten or will ever eat in a Diner). not /s, I'm certain this is Musk's plan. Basically what he does in everything, only it's a diner, and it's very easy to see what doesn't work.

Maximum-Objective-39 2025-08-07 06:38

To be fair, the hatred of Musk seems to be fairly bipartisan. He picked up a little conservative support when he started back Trump, but not nearly as much as he lost from Democrats. IMO, there's some interesting studies on Cult dynamics. Once of them is that in order to really get indoctrinated into a cult, you have to buy into the adjacent sub cultures that the cult recruits from. Trump's following doesn't actually come from any of his own attributes, but from becoming an avatar for conservative conspiracy theories. Musk has his own cult, but it arrives from a different sub culture and it's not nearly as pervasive as the conspiracies Trump is hawking. There is some overlaps, but people usually only have one true master in a Cult. So when the honeymoon with Trump was over, Musk didn't really take any Trumpers with him.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to make a grilled cheese? Only a 3 star Michelin chef could possibly cook one properly. In all seriousness, I'm not surprised the chef behind Mr Beast Burger can't teach his cooks to properly make a grilled cheese.

werpu 2025-08-07 07:52

muxcode 2025-08-07 08:08

Trump supporters were angry that Elon budged in line and went front and center, right in front of all the MAGA die hards that have been riding Trump's D for years. This was Steve Bannon and MTG's beef. The techno fascists came in with Vance and basically placed themself front and center and pushed out the previous administrations MAGA faithful's. Suddenly it was Trump seemingly following Elon's wishes, and not theirs. Your also right, cults can't blame the leader for anything, so they have to blame the people next to them for all the disasters of DOGE and other bullshit on someone. Trump CANT be responsible for anything bad, its always his advisors mislead him, he is getting bad advice, he is playing 5d chess, or deep state is screwing him. They get to blame Elon rather than Trump for being hurt by Trump.

Also, when someone breaks from cult beliefs, they often break _hard_. Not just 'a few of the ideas were bad' but 'everything about them was wrong'. So when people jump ship, they're likely to reject everything about the original group

you would be financially irresponsible to not buy a tesla burger. that burger will be earning the customer 30k a year much like their model 3

Subject_Meat5314 2025-08-07 12:38

This is what’s odd to me about this very quick rough stretch. This restaurant cannot possibly fit into Tesla’s strategy as a viable restaurant business. It’s ridiculous to enter the food service industry as a tech company except as a marketing effort. As such, it makes no sense that it wouldn’t be adequately funded to run well for at least as long as it takes to get the marketing win and stay out of the news. I mean it couldn’t be that anyone thought this was a viable business line that should sink or swim on its own merits. Could it?

analyticaljoe 2025-08-07 12:58

If at all possible it would be good if all business interests of the guy who help get Trump elected would fail. If, like me, you bought a Tesla because you in part bought into the vision of "hey, maybe we should keep the planet from warming up due to green house gasses" then helping elect the guy who is telling NASA to blow up the satellites monitoring green house gases is anathema. Here's hoping Tesla and it's diner go into receivership.

I know that’s why American McDonalds fries aren’t considered vegetarian but so many other fast food fries are

[deleted] 2025-08-07 14:35

North-Outside-5815 2025-08-07 14:38

If it’s over-hyped, overpriced, cheaply produced crap, then it’s a perfect metaphore for the company.

UndertakerFred 2025-08-07 14:45

Restaurant was announced seven years ago, and my son took about 7 years to be able to make a grilled cheese sandwich. For Tesla, that’s way ahead of schedule!

Public-Guidance-9560 2025-08-07 15:08

Exactly. If you saw them at Costco for $1.79 fine.

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-07 15:09

It was definitely a choice, given Elons desire to spread his, uh seed.

Objective-Lychee-506 2025-08-07 15:13

Maybe it's negative hype, though? The phrase "there's no such thing as bad press" doesn't really apply to a ~~tech company~~ meme stock built on the premise of unlimited explosive growth. This diner being nothing more than a cheesy stunt with no substance underneath kind of reveals the entire company to be the same damn thing...which it is.

sircrispin2nd 2025-08-07 16:07

[deleted] 2025-08-07 23:19

Restaurants are very hard. Something like 9 out of 10 new restaurants close within a year of opening afaik? And profit margins are notoriously slim. Plus, you're always vulnerable to disruptions in the supply chain, a bad crop, tariffs, bird flu, etc.

MarchMurky8649 2025-08-08 11:00

I just imagined a protester walking in on a Friday, screaming "Elon Musk is a Nazi!", mimicking his not-a-sieg-heil gesture, then looking confused when an inanely grinning staff member hands him a free burger.

MarchMurky8649 2025-08-08 11:22

"We expect to have thousands of Optimus robots working in Tesla factories by the end of this year, beginning this fall," Musk told Faber on CNBC, "And we expect to scale Optimus up faster than any product, I think, in history, to get to millions of units per year as soon as possible." - [Musk in April this year](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/23/elon-musk-on-robotaxi-optimus-tariffs-energy-and-teslas-future.html) So, July he puts a robot in his new diner, but by August it is nowhere to be seen. What, only one person knows how to teleoperate it, and he's off sick? It's broken already, and they can neither fix it quickly nor do they have a spare? Yet Optimus is supposed to be the ["biggest product ever"](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/23/elon-musk-on-robotaxi-optimus-tariffs-energy-and-teslas-future.html)?

TheSelfDrivingSigma 2025-08-08 11:23

we can have avocado toast (i thought that was too woke?)

mtaw 2025-08-08 13:53

That might've worked at the peak of Musk hype years ago (incidentally when this idea was conceived) when he could do no wrong according to the press. The 'all press is good press' mentality hasn't worked lately - If rebranding Twitter and putting up an annoying (and illegal) sign helped the company in any way, I fail to see the it. Now people are less likely than ever to be dazzled by the hype and prepared look past the shortcomings. If anything the risk here is that the diner becomes a meme emblem of Musk failures: Overpromise, delay (I mean really, _7 years_ to start a restaurant?) and then underdeliver a product that costs more while being worse than the competition, all in a hype package that costs a ton but fails to turn a profit. The failings are all the more obvious because people _get_ food. They don't know what the heck it costs to build a tunnel (or what makes one good), or a rocket or whatever. But everyone knows a shitty overpriced grilled-cheese sandwich if they see one.

Remember when they stuck the giant X on their building without a permit, just tied it down with sandbags or sth?

jaimi_wanders 2025-08-10 08:50

Now THAT’S disruption!

Seriously! Twenty years ago on blogs I was arguing that in order to make EVs viable, there needed to be the equivalent of a gas station network across country here in the US—but you’re right, it needs to be a rest area/truck stop since charging takes longer than “fill ‘er up”. And if you combined it with a small tourist attraction, like a movie theater—even one that just shows shorts, like IMAX nature/local interest films—then people wouldn’t feel like they were wasting their time waiting around to finish charging…

I did see one, where the local State University had an ag program that included dairy, and they had a joint project with the business school running an ice cream stand that sold to the football game crowds…but that’s the ONLY “udder-to-cone” outfit I know of.

seriously—it’s acceptable to use “/“ OR to write it out as “charging-station-slash-restaurant” and even with the alternate meanings of “slash” it’s STILL less off-color.

I understood that reference…unfortunately 🤮

What I can’t understand is why they wouldn’t sub it out to a local chain to handle the food part? There are so many possibilities—I know, for example, that just to pick one, Habit Burger runs smaller burger joints inside college food courts along with their stand-alone locations, but even those offer a full menu which is WAY more extensive than this…mess… and an even smaller chain with (I think) 4 restaurants between Palm Springs & LA has a MUCH more extensive menu…and reliably tasty burgers & sides within 10 minutes, every time.

I think a big part of the failure here is he has to be the smartest guy in the room. So if he didn't think of it, it's seen as a challenge to his self identity and highly unverified intellect. We can look forward to this being called an experimental prototype and will be abandoned in two years tops. Remember, he doesn't clean up after his ventures further junk up the Earth or Space. No one does on that last one though..

dtyamada 2025-09-10 00:24

You have extremely low standards

No, I just like a trashy burger once in a while and I don’t care who knows it.
