Tesla ran out of storage and is parking new, unsold vehicles in my neighborhood. (Long Beach, CA)

hotwifefun | 2025-08-01 16:02 | 2604 views

Yes, those are stickers from the city threatening to tow them if they’re not moved.

Jashugita 2025-08-01 16:08

why have they licence plate?

SemanticallyPedantic 2025-08-01 16:11

Temporary dealer license plate

Purplebuzz 2025-08-01 16:11

Unplated cars on city streets will be towed as abandoned and not registered.

YoshimuraPipe 2025-08-01 16:12

You’d think with their massive valuation that they’d be able to afford off site parking lot…

[deleted] 2025-08-01 16:12

Don’t they sell direct to customers? How does it work in US: do they get plates after sale or before?

[deleted] 2025-08-01 16:13

wraith_majestic 2025-08-01 16:13

yeah it would be awful if some masked stranger went down the street tearing all the paper temp tags off them... Just awful... I would cry when they get towed. Real honest to gosh tears!

SemanticallyPedantic 2025-08-01 16:13

They still offer test drives and need to be able to drive them before they're sold. They definitely need a plate if they're parking them on the street or they're liable to be towed.

Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2025-08-01 16:16

Totally. They’re just waiting there until the massive robotic brain awakens. Then they’ll roam the streets divining people rides for $4.20 or $.69 for shorter rides! They’re a profit center!

Pribblization 2025-08-01 16:17

So Tessler has shifted storage costs from their own balance sheet to that of the city of Long Beach? Nice business plan Ketaboi.

Engunnear 2025-08-01 16:17

I can't speak for every state, but every one where I've ever had the experience dictates that a car has to have a license plate to be driven legally on public roads. I'm sure that some states extend that to on-street parking, thus you'd have to put a dealer plate on a vehicle to park it on the street in this situation. I think I know what you were getting at, though - no, vehicles do not have a plate 'permanently' associated with the vehicle here.

TheWorclown 2025-08-01 16:18

That takes away from their Tesla Diner building space, though. How else are you going to get your $15 hot dogs?

beambot 2025-08-01 16:18

Nah, now they're hiring Uber drivers to make the cars "self driving"...

[deleted] 2025-08-01 16:19

I see a no parking sign. Call the city to have them towed.

Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2025-08-01 16:19

Self driving (except for the driver and the safety officer) ha ha love it

SurfPerchSF 2025-08-01 16:19

311 them

bassbeatsbanging 2025-08-01 16:22

or $12 for 2 pieces of bacon sliced in half so it looks like you got 4

Arglefarb 2025-08-01 16:22

When Tesla begins flaunting “Vehicles Built” instead of “Vehicles Sold” as a quarterly metric, the fan boys are going to drive the valuation through the roof!

Ok-Elevator302 2025-08-01 16:25

Virtual cash.

CompoteDeep2016 2025-08-01 16:28

Those are the fraudulent deliveries everybody is looking for...

boogermike 2025-08-01 16:29

I'm pretty sure the first one in the shot has a parking sticker on the window already (meaning multiple tickets)...they don't mess with parking in SoCal, so I am sure they are getting lots of fines.

ColoRadBro69 2025-08-01 16:30

Because it's illegal to drive a car without a license plate, and it's illegal to park an unregistered car on a public street. They would get parking tickets for every car every time parking enforcement went by, which would cost more than paid parking.  So they're slapping dealer plates on them to avoid all that.

Unlucky-Work3678 2025-08-01 16:30

There are many legal ways to make them unsellable.

I've bet elon is gone make money on towed cars too. It has to be some hyperloop of law to use it

Creepy7_7 2025-08-01 16:36

Who will buy this car nowadays?

Bushpylot 2025-08-01 16:36

It'd be too bad if their tires were flat and it caused them to be towed..

ttkk1248 2025-08-01 16:36

The local towing companies will make tons of money soon!

LacyTing 2025-08-01 16:37

I’m sure they’ll be safe on the streets of LBC

gojiro0 2025-08-01 16:38

Glad to see they're getting orange-tagged!

IncreaseOk8433 2025-08-01 16:38

Great, now he's leaving his useless toys laying around everywhere...

crockett05 2025-08-01 16:38

keep calling the city until they are towed and impounded

Defiant_Shallot2671 2025-08-01 16:38

Sweet! Free wheels and tires!

Mobius00 2025-08-01 16:39

jankenpoo 2025-08-01 16:49

I appreciate their asses being handed to them!

Wasabitacos 2025-08-01 16:50

For what it’s worth, these are the older Model Ys. Probably tough to sell since the Juniper model is already being built and is the preferred version. And looking at the temporary plate. It seems to be leased returns/used vehicle inventory. Not a new vehicle.

Trades46 2025-08-01 16:50

Tesla fanboys: I don't see a problem here

ImpossibleShoulder29 2025-08-01 16:52

Threaten to sue Tesla for lowering your home value. /s /nal

kevin_from_illinois 2025-08-01 16:52

They should just use SpaceX to launch them into the fucking sun

crappydeli 2025-08-01 16:52

That is very illegal. Street parking is for the public. Call your town. They may get ticketed or towed.

fossilnews 2025-08-01 16:54

Can we get down to business and talk about OP's username?

Gann0x 2025-08-01 16:54

Looks like a "please vandalize these so we can get an insurance payout for product we can't sell." situation.

Vanman04 2025-08-01 16:55

In my opinion this is why they are expanding the taxi service so quickly even if it isn't self driving . It's a way to at least bring some returns on all of the overstock they have.

wisecommenter2 2025-08-01 16:58

Does anyone reading this have a sophisticated sense of the extent to which Tesla needs to write down its inventory (especiallly on the cybertruck) but has yet to do so? I punched a few numbers to get a sense of this. For Tesla, its inventory is 65% of its most recent quarterly revenues. For Ford, its inventory is 34% of its most recent quarterly revenues. That's a stark difference. I would suspect that at some point soon (maybe the next annual audited statement) Tesla needs to make a sizeable write-down of its inventory, but I've only spent an hour or two looking into the question. I'm interested in others' thoughts.

SpiritedCaramel322 2025-08-01 17:01

Look at all of those robo-taxis

sonicmerlin 2025-08-01 17:02

Don’t banks take over the liens from the companies that went bankrupt? It doesn’t mean Elon can get out of payment.

PoilTheSnail 2025-08-01 17:04

You mean explode uncontrollably on the launchpad.

Unlucky-Work3678 2025-08-01 17:04

Impact drill the underbody, watch firework.

Spillz-2011 2025-08-01 17:05

Don’t you know corporations are people now. They probably have more right to pro their because they have more money than average people and money is what determines your value in society. Honestly op is lucky that their car isn’t getting towed to make room for tesla.

TurtleCrusher 2025-08-01 17:06

I just bought an ID.4 instead of a Model Y. Didn’t even consider it.

lethargicbureaucrat 2025-08-01 17:06

Bold of them. Spray paint happens.

PoilTheSnail 2025-08-01 17:07

It costs nothing if they don't pay the fines.

PoilTheSnail 2025-08-01 17:08

Hyperloop you say? I guess burying them underground like so many ET cartridges would be the merciful thing to do.

[deleted] 2025-08-01 17:10

I've bet he  will get a way how to get more money from taxes on wasted cars than on sales.

hotwifefun 2025-08-01 17:11

Believe it or not, Tesla doesn’t have insurance on the cars they haven’t sold. They’re all self-insured which makes this even more insane. https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/2539/tesla-starts-underwriting-its-own-insurance-will-they-insure-their-own-robotaxis

RagingDemonsNoDQ 2025-08-01 17:11

I'm sorry this is happening to you. But... 😆 Tesla is having so much stock that's not moving that it's now overflowing beyond empty lots. That's funny!

generalemiel 2025-08-01 17:11

Lmao. Want to repost this image so badly on twitter & tag mr Musk so badly to annoy him

hotwifefun 2025-08-01 17:12

BrainRobotron 2025-08-01 17:13

Cars, sometimes long lines or cars get sideswiped all the time in Long Beach…

res0jyyt1 2025-08-01 17:14

When you can safely park on the street of Long Beach overnight, it tells you the value of your car.

hotwifefun 2025-08-01 17:14

If these are lease returns they’re the cleanest, most unblemished 2-3 year old cars I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

pguy4life 2025-08-01 17:15

Should flaunt "Vehicles burned down" statistics

tonydtonyd 2025-08-01 17:15

Yeah, I don’t understand threatening to tow. If something needs to be towed, it should be towed.

this_dust 2025-08-01 17:15

I used to live in LB and still wake up in a cold sweat thinking that I forgot to move my car for the infernal Street Sweepers.

gbe28 2025-08-01 17:15

SpaceX probably still counts that as a "flight" 😂

hotwifefun 2025-08-01 17:15

Right?!?! This is the last thing we need.

hotwifefun 2025-08-01 17:16

I just got a $100 ticket last week. FML.

Emergency_Property_2 2025-08-01 17:16

I start reporting them as abandoned vehicles. Where I live if a vehicle has not moved in 72 hours it’s abandoned and the last registered owner is notified and they’re not moved they get towed.

[deleted] 2025-08-01 17:16

Working on it.

nolongerbanned99 2025-08-01 17:17

Parsimonious ceo

hotwifefun 2025-08-01 17:17

Do it!

gbe28 2025-08-01 17:17

No doubt that whenever that write-down occurs it will send the stock to new highs! 📈

Wasabitacos 2025-08-01 17:17

Lease or not. The model year clearly states 2020 and 2022 on the license plate. Also, new models don’t come with tint.

BrainOnLoan 2025-08-01 17:18

They might be hiding them. Various people have been counting unsold Teslas at their lots, to get an early estimate on overproduction before Tesla releases reports. If Tesla doesn't want those numbers to be public, that might induce them to park a certain percentage outside of the lots people know and watch.

uncultured_swine2099 2025-08-01 17:18

Fun fact, if you approach them directly from the side toward the rear view mirrors, the camera wont see you.

generalemiel 2025-08-01 17:21

Oh boy i will

[deleted] 2025-08-01 17:21

where do people who actually live their actually park?

this_dust 2025-08-01 17:21

They booted my car on 4th of July which fell on a Friday, ended up just relinquishing the title over street sweeper tickets. Such a racket.

BootThang 2025-08-01 17:25

New scam by Elon: towed=stolen by the deep state and them marked as sold by Tesla

Fleischer444 2025-08-01 17:25

Those are old cars the new models have "Tesla" instead of the badge.

eclwires 2025-08-01 17:25

They’re probably leaving the keys in them and hoping they get stolen so that they can at least get the insurance payout and write off the rest of the loss. Every Rogan fanboy Elmo suckup tRump ball fondler Nazi cult member that can afford one has already bought one.

[deleted] 2025-08-01 17:26

Fines they will ignore and won’t pay. Just like their rents.

Wasabitacos 2025-08-01 17:26

In California, all dealerships must put on a temporary license plate. The registered owner will then receive their permanent plates in the mail with a few weeks. Crazy, but before this law was established, you would drive off the lot with no license plates!!

SiteRelEnby 2025-08-01 17:27

A valve stem removal tool can be purchased cheaply on Amazon or from many car parts stores.

doalwa 2025-08-01 17:28

Hmm…new and unsold? You’re telling me they still haven’t sold through the previous pre-Facelift Model Ys?!? Damn son!

PortlandPetey 2025-08-01 17:28

That’s a pretty good idea, try to steal uber/lyft drivers by offering a free car to drive people around in, via the new Tesla ride share program. If they threw in free charging I bet it would take off.

[deleted] 2025-08-01 17:28

Tesla fanboys: look at all the lint in my belly button.

winfredjj 2025-08-01 17:29

is this even legal?

PilotKnob 2025-08-01 17:29

Awesome.

bw984 2025-08-01 17:32

Let the air out of all the tires. Don’t let that industrial waste ruin your residential street parking. Absolute bullshit for a “trillion dollar company”.

stoverex 2025-08-01 17:33

Many such cases.

ZPMQ38A 2025-08-01 17:33

Tesla is 100% going to be an HBR case study when the bottom falls out. The downside is that it will essentially teach some of the most intelligent and rising young talent in the business industry how a guy literally became the richest person in the world on hype, marketing, and “trust me bro.” The grift is going to get completely out of control.

secretlyjudging 2025-08-01 17:34

These could be cybertaxi-ing and making money. Elon couldn’t hire enough human safety monitors?

bonfuto 2025-08-01 17:37

I wonder if this is just free disposal, the city will have to store them and then go through the effort of getting rid of them. I'm sure they'll sue to recover costs, but Tesla will just go bankrupt instead of paying. Can't say Musk didn't think of everything /s

bonfuto 2025-08-01 17:38

I wonder if they would all burn down, like a row of flaming dominoes?

Yasirbare 2025-08-01 17:41

Son, come look ... I bought a paint gun.

JamesonQuay 2025-08-01 17:42

Only if they replace it with another Tesla, that's 2 vehicles sold. To the moon!

No-Isopod3884 2025-08-01 17:44

Uh, spaceX can’t even launch a banana into orbit using starship, And launching things into the sun is really expensive. But there is a window coming up to launch them to mars. At least this way he may be able to reach his goal of having something on mars by 2026, even if it is scrap metal which would come in handy to build underground bunkers there as there is literally nothing else and humans wouldn’t be able to live on the surface.

dumpitdog 2025-08-01 17:44

I wonder if the best place to put them is in the middle of the ocean?

MorgessaMonstrum 2025-08-01 17:46

wtf? There’s not even enough parking in Long Beach to begin with!

No-Isopod3884 2025-08-01 17:47

These ones unlikely have the monitoring on as that would drain the batteries quickly and I don’t believe they would employ someone to go around and drive these to a charger every week.

messick 2025-08-01 17:48

Putting these in public parking is one thing, but in front of people's houses it's going to get these set on fire. Are we sure this isn't actually Rivian or Lucid doing this?

ReneDelay 2025-08-01 17:48

GPS coordinates please

Top_Junket2991 2025-08-01 17:50

Aren't these old models?

KeySpecialist9139 2025-08-01 17:52

Yep, 3 is the cheapest car on the European car market. 300 EUR a month. And still, nobody wants them, it seems.😉

messick 2025-08-01 17:52

Tesla is still a dealer, so that part is the same. Typically it's after sale. But there is the concept of "Dealer" and "Manufacturer" plates in California that are attached to a dealer/manufacturer and not the actual car. I've never seem those in paper form, but that could be what's happening here. Or, these could just be already registered cars, which means they aren't new, so at point who knows what is going on with them.

Falcon3492 2025-08-01 17:53

Turn them into the LB PD, they can only store them on the street for 72 hours before moving them 520 feet.

krystianoooo 2025-08-01 17:54

Are they making them faster than they sell?

[deleted] 2025-08-01 17:55

Thanks everyone for commenting - very insightful. And the situation with parking outside for Tesla is shocking, frankly. I thought people in US are buying while federal tax credit are still available. Isn’t it the case?

Public-Guidance-9560 2025-08-01 17:57

Ooouf pre-facelift Ys as well. They'd have to sell em off cheap. If anyone actually wanted one ...

No-Isopod3884 2025-08-01 17:59

I’m confused, are these street licensed and insured vehicles. In my city it’s illegal to park vehicles on the street that aren’t insured for that.

-OptimisticNihilism- 2025-08-01 17:59

At this price they should really be issuing new stock to raise capital.

LLMprophet 2025-08-01 18:06

It would be a shame if those tires lost all air pressure from sitting for so long.

jregovic 2025-08-01 18:07

Launching something into the sun is actually a bit difficult. You actually need to get the object to slow down a lot. The Park Solar Probe did 7 flybys of Venus in order to scrub velocity to get to the sun.

Robo-X 2025-08-01 18:09

Are they still manufacturing the old model Y? I thought they would have switched to the refresh by now.

Lopsided_Duty_2107 2025-08-01 18:10

Someone might steal them, oh my bad, can a Tesla get stolen? I seem to recall someone saying Tesla tech makes them hard to steal. Wonder where Teslas fall on the most stolen cars list? 🤔

meshreplacer 2025-08-01 18:13

If they get towed they can then put on the balance sheet as sold vehicles. Musk playing 8D chess.

cruista 2025-08-01 18:13

City towyard can be a paid parking spot for Teslas!

transcendanttermite 2025-08-01 18:13

Why don’t they just park them all in some of Elon’s big stupid boring-ass tunnels?

Apprehensive-Box-8 2025-08-01 18:15

„In delivery process“ … they could just have them drive around in circles, since they can deliver themselves now. They can do that, right? Right? By the way - did they ever „self-deliver“ a second car? I somehow never heard anything about that self-delivery after the first one.

P0Rt1ng4Duty 2025-08-01 18:15

I am skeptical of this assertion. Legal ways?

z333ds 2025-08-01 18:17

They have tags so it means they are registered already not new then?

Jacktheforkie 2025-08-01 18:21

What would happen if one of these vehicles caused a crash with no driver in the vehicle? Who would be responsible?

I’ve already seen a few dented up old Teslas riding around in the hood. They will become the next Altima soon.

Individual-Nebula927 2025-08-01 18:37

Or do what every other automaker does in this situation, and cut a shift. Instead they keep piling them up.

Apprehensive-Box-8 2025-08-01 18:37

If I was working for Tesla, I would put in the fineprint of the contract that „all responsibility, liability and accountability of Tesla regarding the condition of the car as well as possible damages happening to the car and other public or private property ends with the car leaving the Tesla factory“. Would that be legally watertight? Most likely not. Would they care? Probably not either…

MarchMurky8649 2025-08-01 18:41

A member of the public enters Tesla's Long Beach, CA store. Member of the public: 'Ello, I wish to register a complaint. (The staff member does not respond.) M: 'Ello, Miss? Staff: What do you mean "miss"? M: I'm sorry, I have a cold. I wish to make a complaint! S: We're closin' for lunch. M: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about all these unsold Teslas what you've got parked all over the place, not five minutes' walk from this very boutique. S: Oh yes, the, uh, the Robotaxis...What's, uh... What's wrong with them? M: I'll tell you what's wrong with them, my lad. They're just vehicles you can't sell, and they're cloggin' up the streets, that's what's wrong with them! S: No, no, they're Robotaxis, they're uh,...they're waiting for customers. M: Look, matey, I know an unsold vehicle when I see one, and I've been walking past them all day. S: No no they're not unsold vehicles, they're just Robotaxis waitin' for customers. They're restin'! Remarkable car, the Tesla Robotaxi, idn'it, ay? Beautiful full self driving! M: The full self driving don't enter into it. They're unsold vehicles, takin' up all the parkin' spaces. S: Nononono, no, no! They're just waiting for customers! M: All right then, if they're waiting for customers, I'll order one! (opens Tesla Robotaxi app) M: OK, nearest available Robotaxi to me, right now... is in San bloody José! That's three hundred and sixty-two bloody miles away! S: Well, we're short of drivers! M: Short of drivers? I thought you said they were bleedin' robotaxis, with full self drivin'! S: I never!! M: Yes, you did! S: OK, I did, but they are robotaxis, with the full self driving, that need drivers. Hey, do you want a job? \[With apologies to John Cleese and Graham Chapman\]

j9jm3 2025-08-01 18:47

Something is off. Those are older model y from prior year

stankbucket 2025-08-01 18:49

They're going big brain here. The cars will get towed and impounded. They aren't paying the tickets nor the towing/storage costs. Free secure storage until a year or two from now when some poor schlub decides to buy one of these.

ad-astra-specta 2025-08-01 18:50

Really! Launch, explode - why quibble over nuances? Either way, they depart Earth making a lot of noise.

Sevenfeet 2025-08-01 18:50

Channel stuffing.

RandomCandor 2025-08-01 18:51

I think it's less about having the money and more about this company not being able to think more than 90 days into the future

RandomCandor 2025-08-01 18:54

I'm not saying $15 for a hot dog is a reasonable price, but I am honestly shocked that it doesn't cost $30.

RandomCandor 2025-08-01 18:55

Isn't that so epiccccc? omg we r so epic and quirky... lmfao .. we talk just like you, fellow kids!

[deleted] 2025-08-01 18:57

Maybe. I wouldn't think their insurance carriers would be thrilled about their storage practices. For sure their premiums would go up. Way up.

TheWorclown 2025-08-01 18:57

Have you seen what the hotdog looks like on their website? It’s the saddest hotdog you’ll ever see, priced for $15 bucks. They had an image before where it at least had relish and the like on it. Last I checked though it was just a plain, very well done dog on a bun.

I-Pacer 2025-08-01 18:57

It would be a shame if the plates fell off...

Independent-Future-1 2025-08-01 18:59

Could a scrap yard turn a profit on those hunks of junk? I don't really know, just spitballing here. 🤔

Habaneroe12 2025-08-01 19:00

I want to go around switching all the license plates with each other. “Honey didn’t we order a red one?”

My guess is they have sold them internally within their distribution system so that they show up as sales for the purposes of quarterly reporting.

bonfuto 2025-08-01 19:12

I think the city would end up paying for every step. Getting a car declared as abandoned is not always easy. The scrap market is abysmal right now, but I think the scrapyards might make money.

Soff10 2025-08-01 19:15

Have the city tow it. Impound it. Then buy it at auction for a huge discount.

'Quirky' is when you're weird but still do your job well or are an otherwise upstanding person when it comes to your responsibilities. Otherwise, you're just weird. Your new age mom who dresses in tie dye gowns and decorates her house in beads, wind chimes, and African art replicas, but holds down a job and pays her mortgage is 'Quirky.' Elon Musk is just weird.

QuieroTamales 2025-08-01 20:14

These are recent pictures? Odd. I wouldn't have expected to the older, non-refreshed Model Y.

Apprehensive-Box-8 2025-08-01 20:14

My bad. I forgot the second part. Of course, all liability will shift to the buyer because basically, they commence ownership the moment the car leaves the Tesla factory. Maybe Tesla insurance will insure the drive, but at a hefty rate and it will necessitate that you get Tesla insurance afterwards.

totpot 2025-08-01 20:55

Long Beach has a law that cars must be moved at least a block away every 72 hours or be towed. This can get good. I also wouldn't be surprised to see all these cars sitting on cinderblocks with the wheels missing once the gangs know about it.

WhiskyForARealMan 2025-08-01 20:55

That_Abbreviations61 2025-08-01 20:56

Sales tanked before the refresh. The Elongelicals claimed it was just people waiting to buy after the refresh. I have no doubt they have a bunch of pre refresh models they dont want to sell below market value because it actualises the losses. They are probably still on the books as full value of a new Y but once sold that no longer applies if they have to discount them to move them.

This. If you own a tow truck, just start hauling these off and strip them down. Tesla probably wouldn't even care. IF they noticed, they'd fike an insurance claim and get paid. Perhaps they are HOPING people will vandalize them so they can get insurance repair $

A Cruise driverless vehicle ran a woman over and parked on her in '23. She was pretty fucked up, obviously. She got a civil suit settlement around $10 million. California cancelled Cruise's license to operate driverless cars and the NHTSA fined them $1.5 million. DOJ fined them $500k. They ceased operating robotaxis but have since partnered up with Uber to get back at it. So long story short, no one is responsible. Pay some fines and a settlement.

Gann0x 2025-08-01 23:39

It would be terrible if someone were to drive by at night and run a key down the length of every car, or fill a super soaker with brake fluid and eat the paint off or throw tons of bird seed all over the cars. I'm sure there's many terrible things that could happen to a brand new car left abandoned on the street.

Dollah_Short 2025-08-02 00:29

That isn’t a smart move by Tesla. Parking unsold cars on public streets like this is nothing more than an invitation for people to damage them.

practicaloppossum 2025-08-02 00:34

I think there's a bit of an apples and oranges thing here, because most of the Ford inventory is actually held by it's dealers, so it's somewhat seperated from corporate financing. Whereas Tesla directly owns all their inventory.

practicaloppossum 2025-08-02 00:38

Good point. Which means Tesla's lots are so full of unsold new cars, they have nowhere to store the tradeins.

wisecommenter2 2025-08-02 00:57

This genuinely makes me happy. I do feel for the people who bought Teslas before Elon went off the deep end and are now stuck with them. But I’m glad to see that his actions are finally catching up to him. It’s frustrating that Trump has still managed to avoid consequences long overdue, but with Epstein becoming such a major focus in conservative media over the past few years, maybe this time something will actually stick.

hoostenbeebes 2025-08-02 04:14

They are struggling to sell than. They are praying for insurance claims (theft, vandalism, etc.), because their value is already lost. I think the best thing you can do is call a tow company and/or file a report about some potentially abandoned vehicles.

Snap_Grackle_Pop 2025-08-02 05:56

> Tesla doesn’t have insurance on the cars they haven’t sold. If you're a big company, self-insurance often makes sense. XYZ Insurance is going to charge you more in premiums than they will pay out in the long run. You might as well put your premium payment money into an interest-bearing account and pay your own claims from there. Unless you can find an insurance company that you can fool into charging you too low of a premium. Or if you can do an Enron and make your financial numbers look better this way.

City will not remove them. it is just for show so people think the city is enforcing. Once Musk "Sells" them to Chewco LLP off balance sheet corporation to get scrapped for parts for new Teslas then the city will forgive and only charge pennies on the dollar. Cheaper than actually paying for parking.

It would be a shame if someone put anti Musk bumperstickers on those cars.

I believe cans of automotive spray paint can also be purchased from those outlets, in case anyone notices any scratches on these vehicles that could do with being touched up. Problem is each one is fully customized in so many ways that only that buyer has that exact way they wanted it , if it was just a car that they all ate the same then anyone cad just get the model they want faster since anyone can just take the ones that are available right away since they are all the same but they allow to much customization.

That should be illegal as the street parkings should not be for a corporation but the resident. In particular long term parking like it is the case. I am surprised people just don't feel free to damage those because they are in the open and this is irresponsible from Tesla.

[deleted] 2025-08-04 15:39

Either insurance claim or just write them off the books as a loss,

>Where I live if a vehicle has not moved in 72 hours it’s abandoned and the last registered owner is notified and they’re not moved they get towed. I know, this is offtopic, but what the fuck kinda smoothbrain dipshit shit law is this? I'm sick in my apartment, I'm gone for holidays, I'm using my motorcycle mostly or a car stays stationary for whatever myriad of reasons = asshole neighbor notifies city: HAHA, GET TOWED FUCKER! And I thought Texas dildo laws were stupid.

OnePumpoChumpo 2025-08-05 03:33

I’m on the fuck Elon and Tesla bandwagon to a degree but there is something going on here that people aren’t seeing. Those vehicles are registered. The paper plates on the back are provided by the DMV, not a dealer. Dealers can’t print TOPs without a reported sale to the DMV. That means they are sold. But who are they sold to? Curious if Elon bought back his physical inventory that couldn’t sell to stop the massive hole burning in Tesla’s financial statements due to depreciation. And when I say Elon, I mean the actual people that are somehow keeping the company running because I bet he just shouted at people to fix it rather than dealing with it himself. Either way, this is fucked and should not be a thing whatthefucksoever. Hope every single one of them gets towed/impounded AND Tesla does in fact own them so they get double whammy’d with impound fees.

[deleted] 2025-08-05 03:33

I'd argue its already a case study. A case study that shows how both people and institutions will tolerate years of lies, insider/self dealing, regulatory cheating, consumer contempt, government graft/payoffs.... if the gain is short term and the damage is long term. Has \*anyone\* paid attention to the shit Musk has done in the last 15 years? I know people like the cars (I don't), but how foolish must people be to trust this company?

[deleted] 2025-08-10 15:54

They need to tow them. Let them pay a tow lot daily for every car they’re doing this with.

[deleted] 2025-08-10 15:57

Lots of companies big and small do this, but it’s far from being the norm. Worth noting that some jagoff private citizens take advantage of public good for personal profit as well.

[deleted] 2025-08-10 16:05

My city has this too. I’ve never heard of anyone getting called in for a non-abandoned car sitting for more than 72 hours. If they do plan on towing you, they attempt to contact you first. Honestly it takes so much time for the city to actually get around to removing abandoned cars, I can’t imagine it being an issue.

Better_Dimension2064 2025-08-11 16:28

Any Teslas dumped on private property without owner permission, or parked in public outside of parking laws, should be towed. Tesla can pay to retrieve them from the impound lot.

SnooSquirrels4800 2025-08-20 21:35

I'm pretty sure Tesla don't have any remaining pre-facelift Model Ys unsold. Why would they be paying license and insurance? Surely renting a lot would be cheaper.

hotwifefun 2025-08-20 21:44

Tesla doesn’t pay insurance, they’re all self insured. Pretty sure those licenses are dirt cheap or free with their dealership license, they’re definitely not paying full retail for paper dealer plates. Why would a private person or corporation have dealer plates? Why would a person/corporation buy 12+ Teslas and then proceed to park them in a residential neighborhood for so long that they get tagged with a tow warning notice? Maybe these were lease returns, or maybe they were NOS, or demos, whatever they are, they’re owned by Tesla, and they’re parked in my neighborhood.

MamawGumbo 2025-09-19 00:41

This is happening in Downey too at the stonewood Center mall parking lot by the old Sears location. There is a new Tesla dealership in Norwalk and they're parking they're overflow cars here in Downey. the Norwalk Tesla dealership already has pretty bad reviews, so I don't think these cars are going to be moving very quickly lol.
