There's been a brain drain at Tesla for years now. The significance of the last couple firings were that they were sales guys, presumably guys who recognized Musk's value was truly in his ability to sell hype. That's what sales ultimately is after all, regardless of industry. If they're jumping ship, IMO that's a sign that whatever he's cooking up next is going to be tough to move.

Vanguard is big. Their biggest funds are index funds. Many of the market indexes include Tesla. Vanguard needs to follow the composition of the indexes. Guess what would happen to Tesla stock if the S&P removes Tesla from the index.
