hypespud 2025-07-12 23:57

"A lot of that blame can be attributed to the fact that the country froze the Incentive for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program in mid-January (later accusing Tesla of trying to game the system and banning it from future incentives). It's similar to what the U.S. is planning to do with our federal EV tax credit program at the end of september" 50% decline in USA coming soon?

justme_bne 2025-07-13 00:15

Vive la Canada 🇨🇦

razor_train 2025-07-13 00:18

Canada to Elon: Take off, hoser!

SolutionWarm6576 2025-07-13 00:18

The CAFE penalty fines will be ending also. Tesla made 400 million alone off those last quarter, to other automaker’s so they could stay compliant. Without that 400 million, they would easily have been in the red last quarter. Ending the EV rebates, will be bad for them, but they end of the CAFE emission fines, where companies can buy them from another company (Tesla), is going to be brutal for them.

Ok_Television9703 2025-07-13 00:48

Great

JDubStep 2025-07-13 01:11

That's what we call a good start

Computers_and_cats 2025-07-13 01:31

To bad. So sad. Keep up the good work Canada.

fremontseahawk 2025-07-13 01:39

When do the CAFE fines end?

FlipZip69 2025-07-13 01:41

There may be a bit of a increase in sales right prior as the last of the few people try and get under it before it is cancelled.

nav_261146 2025-07-13 02:27

Good

dtyamada 2025-07-13 02:29

As a proud Canadian I concur. My only complaint is that the number isn't higher lol.

[deleted] 2025-07-13 02:40

Good... we don't want that crap here... get a new CEO then maybe people will consider.

pacific_beach 2025-07-13 02:53

It's now been reduced to a really bad car company who's only source of profit is interest from their cash hoard. IE it's a shitty Ford Motor Co and people won't pay crap for Ford's EPS.

FineAunts 2025-07-13 03:33

Elon is the majority shareholder. Even if he steps down he'd be the power behind the throne, and any Tesla sale will just enrich him further.

Fiss 2025-07-13 03:36

9/30

Fiss 2025-07-13 03:37

Even if he “steps down” the board is still there by people stupidly loyal to him. They need to go as bad as he does.

IMakeShine 2025-07-13 03:53

I live in New Zealand. We have 1 port where cars come in for the whole country. I work in a building overlooking the docks where the cars sit before being taken away. 4 or 5 years ago the place was always flooded with Teslas. Take this as you will, and clearly anecdotal and not scientific, but I can’t remember the last time I saw any there. I don’t look every day, but when I do I sorta make it a game to find one.

StanchoPanza 2025-07-13 04:13

is that an orchestra of tiny violins i hear?

Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2025-07-13 04:58

The fact that ANYONE buys these things now is beyond me.

Radiant-Painting581 2025-07-13 05:00

Elbows up!

Fun_Volume2150 2025-07-13 05:35

I would think that the difficulty in repairing Teslas would make them antithetical to the Kiwi ethos?

impatient_trader 2025-07-13 06:22

Or Tesla just cooking the numbers the same way it did in Canada and due to "backfilling"

alanspornstash2 2025-07-13 08:32

Are they down from actual sales or down from the completely fabricated sales numbers they used to fraudulent ly claim EV bonuses?

Chippopotanuse 2025-07-13 11:27

So, this article has a little more dish than the usual “folks are fleeing Tesla” and it is instructive for what’s about to happen in the US: > To be fair to Tesla, EVs in general have fared pretty terribly in Canada this year. Registrations are down 32% in the first six months of this year compared with last. A lot of that blame can be attributed to the fact that the country froze the Incentive for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program in mid-January (later accusing Tesla of trying to game the system and banning it from future incentives). It's similar to what the U.S. is planning to do with our federal EV tax credit program at the end of September. Canadian buyers also faced major changes to Quebec's Roulez Vert rebate program, which included a hiatus in February and March. EV’s in general will slow their growth or start declining once these incentives are phased out by the GOP and the BBB.

Lonely-Truth-7088 2025-07-13 14:34

Stock goes up

ComfortableJacket429 2025-07-13 15:44

He’s the largest single shareholder but not the majority shareholder. He has 12% of the shares last I checked. He still has a major influence on the board as they were all chosen by him. That’s the biggest issue.

MrCuzz 2025-07-13 19:05

You mean lower?

dtyamada 2025-07-13 21:54

The 67% drop. So a higher drop is what i want to see. Lower total. All a matter of which way you look at it.

Pepparkakan 2025-07-13 22:09

Why? Presumably the credits apply to other manufacturers too no? So why would Tesla see a peak that isn’t proportional to the rest of the market?

FlipZip69 2025-07-13 22:43

I am just saying that Tesla might see some sales increases right before they subsidies are fully removed and you can be assured they will try and capitalize on this as 'growth'. The quarter after though will show a massive decline. Both from a significant price increase and that anyone still buying will likely have bought prior to the subsidy removal.

Drone30389 2025-07-14 06:56

Coo loo coo coo, coo coo coo coo!

ComplexIllustrious61 2025-07-14 11:54

All EV manufacturers are going to have to start cutting prices once the rebate is gone.

FlipZip69 2025-07-14 13:57

Considering there is about a 10 percent margin on Tesla vehicle, how much do you think Tesla can drop prices on a 50,000 dollar car when they only make $5,000?

wenchanger 2025-07-14 21:08

i never understood nor followed the Tesla craze in Canada back in 2017-2020 when they were cool. Always drove BMWs and Audis instead

Kingofthenarf 2025-07-15 09:12

It’s not a real country, making real dents in the sales count

Swarez99 2025-07-15 19:09

Government tax credits started this drop off, end of 2024 Quebec and BC changes rules. Federal has now done same. That money is gone. Add in tariff war ans Elon being on Trumps side, with Tesla increasing prices 20k it’s cascading impact!

Exciting_Turn_9559 2025-07-16 14:38

I wanted one so bad 5 years ago. I will never buy one now, even if they replace Elon. He should have been fired immediately after his Hitler salute, but because he wasn't the entire company is tainted forever.
