Tesla was never in the race.

SadSeiko 2025-07-12 11:47

They lost the race but people aren’t loyal to taxi companies. Who ever offers the cheapest decent service will win.  Thats not going to be Tesla but it could be someone else

allgonetoshit 2025-07-12 11:49

This is the story of Tesla. Tesla talks about doing something for YEARS while Tesla’s competitors DO that thing for YEARS. Semi trucks, autonomous systems, robotics, solar power, battery storage, building a wider variety of models, roadsters, AI, the list goes on. Tesla is a fantasy company with a fantasy stock price. They are the leaders in one thing: social media manipulation. This coupled with the insular American market means that they are able to control the narrative when it comes to critical components like range and charging, when they are not even the leaders in those former strongholds anymore outside the US.

Tesla is a testament to how broken the stock market is. It's no longer a gauge of value, rather, it's a meme pump and dump device. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Musk was hand-picked by the deep state to become the world's richest man and they (and guys like blackrock and the saudis) just pumped the stock up by ensuring it was never valued based on anything concrete. The fact Musk can call Trump a pedophile and Trump has barely responded tells you there is way more to Musk than we'll ever know and it's gotta be more than just his money.

Key-Beginning-2201 2025-07-12 12:33

Tesla doesn't even have ADAS 4. Looks like ADAS 3, to me. Resultantly Waymo has done 10 million commercial adas4 rides at a 9 million per year rate Tesla? Zero.

Key-Beginning-2201 2025-07-12 12:35

And Zoox will surpass Tesla by late next year. Guaranteed. In terms of ADAS 4, already has.

unfiltered_Rabbit01 2025-07-12 12:50

Facts: Didn't Lucid Grand Tour just set a record for most range in an EV ever? Those are the best EVs available in the US, lowkey. Tesla's are so dangerous to drive, and they fudge their numbers, so I wouldn't trust them one bit.

SlowDekker 2025-07-12 12:54

Robotaxis and self driving cars was never going to be a trillion dollar business. Eventually the tech will be good enough and it will be commodity that can be provided by many companies. Tesla isn’t even ahead at this moment.

jregovic 2025-07-12 13:12

This is the kind of thing that will push TSLA up!

Grunge4U 2025-07-12 13:12

With VW and soon Ford partnering with Waymo to offer autonomous driving it's only a matter of time until this becomes a feature on all cars they sell and every car mfg. will beat Tesla to true FSD. People aren't going to give up owning a car in favor of Robotaxis anyway, autonomous driving will just become a standard feature on all cars sold just as cruise control is now.

Particular-Bike-9275 2025-07-12 13:29

I don’t know. Here in Arizona, if I can get there with a Waymo, you better believe I’ll take the Waymo. Would love it if they would expand the coverage here.

imonthetoiletpooping 2025-07-12 13:31

How is Uber not going down in stock price

soldieroscar 2025-07-12 13:45

This is probably why Elon fired the guy that reports those numbers. Now he can make them up.

Quirky_Tradition_806 2025-07-12 13:50

Never.

Rare-Joke 2025-07-12 13:50

Race?

soldieroscar 2025-07-12 14:09

Yes seeing as Elon keeps saying its revolutionary… like its not already happening.

beyerch 2025-07-12 14:17

And..... how much revenue is this? Now multiply it by ten. TAM is NOWHERE NEAR the level that Kathy/Dan/etc. claim. Even *IF* Tesla's shit worked *AND* EVEN *IF* they get 100% of the market, the math doesn't math........

nolongerbanned99 2025-07-12 15:14

That’s correct. Waymo is substance. Slow and steady. Methodical and responsible. Tesla is theatre

nolongerbanned99 2025-07-12 15:16

Good insight. Apparently the Chinese are ahead in several areas in EVs compared to tesla. Also, tesla ‘self driving’ is level 2. Mercedes is level 3. Waymo is 4. Tesla has become a tech laggard.

AhChirrion 2025-07-12 16:17

Tesla's main product is its stock, not its tech. Musk makes impossible promises and releases half-assed tech here and there to keep its stock's value as high as possible. Musk is betting on Wall Street being stupid enough to keep believing his lies and keep Tesla's stock with a high valuation for twenty years or so, when maybe Tesla will finally deliver on his promises - years later than the competition, but what matters to Musk is that he would make a very good profit anyway. Remember whole markets can remain irrational for decades or over a century - human stupidity and greed are enormous. Maybe Musk will get away with it.

mrdilldozer 2025-07-12 16:51

Yup and even Waymo would still admit that they are experiencing problems that are going to take some time to work out. Tesla still isn't even aware of what those problems are yet.

Hi_Im_Ken_Adams 2025-07-12 17:09

Just look at the massive array of sensors on a Waymo vehicle and then look at a Tesla. I’m going to trust the Waymo more.

BigMax 2025-07-12 17:15

The crazy part is that Tesla's lies and Waymo's truths are what drives Tesla's stock price. Waymo says "here is our reasonable plan" and people yawn, and Tesla says "here is a bunch of unrealistic lies" and investors say "yay! that sounds so cool, they are going to do great!" It's weird that any other company in the world that just lied so often and missed target after target after target would have a stock price in the toilet.

[deleted] 2025-07-12 17:17

The actually possible trillion dollar business using the technology is long haul trucking

IcyHowl4540 2025-07-12 17:32

That chart is \*only California\* rides, so it actually severely understates the issue.

SadSeiko 2025-07-12 17:32

For now

Important_Ad_1795 2025-07-12 18:18

Tesla is trash talking at the weigh in, Waymo has long since beaten them.

gwenver 2025-07-12 19:02

It's kind of impressive how long it has taken the competition to catch up with Tesla. And it's equally astounding how they squandered  that lead.

VitaminPb 2025-07-12 19:17

Tesla is picking up their number at registration, Waymo is in the last two quarter of the marathon, and Tesla is pulling out the subway map.

Mista_Trix_eM 2025-07-12 20:12

Waymos problem is its gunna have a really hard time scaling. Whereas Tesla is really far behind but will scale much faster. Waymos winning the battle but Tesla 'might' win the war.

soldieroscar 2025-07-12 20:15

Doubt it, all these tesla cars have outdated hardware. Really Tesla has no lead for scaling at this point. Tesla doesnt even know what hardware will work yet.

Mista_Trix_eM 2025-07-12 21:16

Yeah agree HW3 looks like it would need upgrading, but they've still sold millions of vehicles with HW4 and that looks like it'd work. In reality you'd just roll out a two tiered system with different limits on the different hardware stacks.

messick 2025-07-12 21:33

Already Lost? Waymo started doing unsupervised miles in California back in 2018. Who says Tesla is even in the race?

OGFrostyEconomist 2025-07-12 21:59

I feel like the most likely version of it would be the caravan thing Daimler has been testing. With how remote trucks go there'd have to be a human somewhere nearby to deal with mechanical issues etc. Also it would be completely devastating to the economy since trucking is literally the most common job in just about every state. Many trucking companies are so cheap they refuse to buy $30 permits and drive on back roads to dodge weigh stations, idk how that business model would translate to autonomous trucks.

[deleted] 2025-07-12 22:25

Tesla is that kid that acts like he is cool but is the biggest dbag in town

Keralasfinest 2025-07-12 23:07

Dan Ives sounds like an idiot everytime he talks about Tesla.

OraxisOnaris1 2025-07-12 23:53

Tesla is the Rosie Ruiz of robotaxis

pacific_beach 2025-07-13 01:41

I think it will be a supplement to the trucking industry, not a driver replacement. People don't realize that the driver is the chief safety officer, security guard, mechanic, weatherman, and overall decision maker when things get weird. I could definitely see 'zones' where automated driving is allowed. I-10 in good weather from El Paso to San Antonio? Hell yeah turn on the copilot driver. I-90 over Snoqualmie when it's pouring rain or snowing? Nope, you need a rested and skilled driver at the helm.

pacific_beach 2025-07-13 01:56

Cathy is still so committed to the con, too. https://www.teslaoracle.com/2025/03/25/tesla-tsla-robotaxi-to-add-10x-value-to-the-company-by-2030-says-arks-cathie-wood/

pacific_beach 2025-07-13 01:57

Cathy Wood says tesla is the lead horse, despite being dead wrong for years https://www.teslaoracle.com/2025/03/25/tesla-tsla-robotaxi-to-add-10x-value-to-the-company-by-2030-says-arks-cathie-wood/

Sensitive_Ad_7420 2025-07-13 01:58

Teslas robotaxi isn’t running HW4 it’s something else, it’s been mentioned

OGFrostyEconomist 2025-07-13 04:09

yeah those are all very good points, thanks for the insight!

NotFromMilkyWay 2025-07-13 06:44

In basically no market ever is the first market leader the eventual owner of that market. Just like Tesla is becoming redundant now via BYD and Xiaomi in China and VW in Europe, Waymo won't be the dominant player for ridehailing services. Just like MySpace was replaced by Facebook, Nokia by Samsung and Apple, Netscape by Chrome, ...

Happy-go-lucky-37 2025-07-13 16:14

That’s definitely Waymo’ than Tesler.

Zephyr-5 2025-07-13 16:37

Because it is likely that eventually Waymo is going to license their software and sell their fleets off to companies like Uber. Then let them handle the complexities and costs of a taxi service. We already see them trialing this in Atlanta where you can order a Waymo through the Uber app.

[deleted] 2025-07-13 17:29

Does HW4 have enough redundancy to operate autonomously? No. Even if they had enough redundant sensors and algorithms to handle multiple inputs, could HW4 vehicles be turned on like a switch? Again, no--you need to validate and maintain the hardware and software for each vehicle to maintain safety. Imagining Tesla can quickly ramp up is a fantasy sold to uninformed investors.

[deleted] 2025-07-13 17:39

That's the route being worked on Texas  up to Phoenix on I 10

Globe_Worship 2025-07-13 21:56

I haven’t ridden a Waymo but I understand the price is more expensive than Uber or Lyft. Is that a temporary thing until it scales out or something? Seems to negate one of the obvious benefits of a driverless car. The Tesla proponents say they are a few software updates away from something that will be safe and cost half an Uber ride. That will be hard to compete with. But like other promises and hopes, it’s another thing to actually accomplish that.

Ragnarok-9999 2025-07-14 19:02

Tesla Robotaxi is smoke mirror to keep the stock from falling in to abyss until, another smoke mirror like merger of his xAI with Tesla.

HVT2994 2025-07-16 19:26

Why is Waymo starting in NY with a driver? https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/waymo-hits-the-road-in-new-york-city-everything-to-know-about-the-robotaxi/ This is as NY puts in that condition alike Austin did toward Tesla, taxi’s need drivers, just think you are wrong, Tesla is just starting, Waymo and Tesla will both not be profitable in these services but cost of 40K compared to 300K for every Waymo may be a huge obstacle for Waymo to become profitable…
