KEY POINTS Elon Musk said he would form a new political party called the "America Party." Tesla shares fell around 7% in premarket trading on Monday after Musk's announcement. Tesla shareholders have wanted Musk to stay away from politics, especially after his stint at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which many have said damaged the automaker's brand.

Sorry-Programmer9826 2025-07-07 10:22

Starting a new political party is about as far from staying out of politics as it's possible to be.  I'm sure the tesla board are delighted /s

ShotNixon 2025-07-07 10:29

New political party on a ballot near you by the end of the quarter probably, 2030 latest, ok, a scaled down version of a political party running for county school board by 2035.

SolutionWarm6576 2025-07-07 10:36

And the CFO of Tesla, is the Treasurer of this new party.

Apprehensive-Box-8 2025-07-07 10:39

shows you how much that stock is actually tied to sales, technology or basically the company itself. It is basically a Musk-Stock and almost only reacts to things the person Elon Musk does.

KL_boy 2025-07-07 10:40

My guess is that he will create a party and plan to hit all purple / swing mid-terms elections. How he will split the vote depends on if the GOP gives him back the EV tax credits or more gov contract.

ShotBandicoot7 2025-07-07 10:43

I don‘t think this is just the party. He keeps tweeting about Epstein etc. on his X account. The man knows how to burb bridges…

[deleted] 2025-07-07 10:46

If he’s fired by the Tesla board Musk can watch Tesla fail and say it was because they got rid of his genius management and that if he’d stayed it would have been a success. If he is not fired by the Tesla board and it fails then he might well get the blame. Given Tesla is a car plus vapourware company where the vapour is getting so thin as to be almost invisible, the chances are Tesla will fail soon. So getting fired by the board before everything goes to shit looks like a good option for Musk - as long as the board cashes out on enough shares to be richer than dreams before they pull the trigger, which they pretty much have.

Silly-avocatoe 2025-07-07 10:55

“Very simply Musk diving deeper into politics and now trying to take on the Beltway establishment is exactly the opposite direction that Tesla investors/shareholders want him to take during this crucial period for the Tesla story,” Dan Ives, global head of technology research at Wedbush Securities, said in a note on Sunday. “While the core Musk supporters will back Musk at every turn no matter what, there is broader sense of exhaustion from many Tesla investors that Musk keeps heading down the political track.”

TheZethy 2025-07-07 11:06

A South African starting the "America Party" is just wild to me.

Public-Guidance-9560 2025-07-07 11:07

The man who works 100 hour weeks and sleeps under a desk in the Tesla factory has time to run a politcal party/compaign? Right. I don't know how he isn't just choking on the amount of BS coming out his mouth these days.

Alextryingforgrate 2025-07-07 11:16

Why doesn't he just say how Trump won the election.

MiniBanjo 2025-07-07 11:17

Musk has the attention span of a methed out squirrel. His political party has no chance. Those are hard and expensive work

FrogmanKouki 2025-07-07 11:20

I agree but I think failure for Tesla will be the end of the vaporware and producing roughly a million cars a year. This would make the TSLA over valuation blatantly obvious. Oh and if they ever have to make good on retrofitting FSD hardware in their legacy cars...well that could be hundreds of millions in cost as well. Not to mention it would be full admission of a failed product and years and years of selling said "product".

88888_account 2025-07-07 11:21

Even worst, Musk threatening again Trump with Epstein files 🤣 that is hilarious

MoleMoustache 2025-07-07 11:21

Sarcasm tags ruin all sarcasm. Everyone in here gets the joke.

Nice. Keep it going! Still massively overvalued.

If he successfully fractures the Republican Party I would have to buy a Tesla.

In all fairness sarcasm has a certain cadence and tone of voice in real life. The annotation just represents that tone of voice. I prefer (!) to represent that but reddit likes /s (also I absolutely would get comments if I didnt have a /s)

Maybe he doesn't want to reveal the methods because he intends to use them for his new party?

AdministrationTop772 2025-07-07 12:24

If he manages this party in the same way he manages his businesses, I can easily see him getting .2%+ of the vote.

Zapp_Rowsdower_ 2025-07-07 12:25

This is the next step in the orchestrated, slow-motion bankruptcy of Tesla now that the stock is mainly in the hands of retail investors. The bad bank is close to closer to closing its accounts than anyone realizes…

MarchMurky8649 2025-07-07 12:26

I wonder whether an expat white South African is going to get votes from the non-fascists.

He's gonna get deported by the end of the year if he goes through with this. They'll "investigate" him and surface what they already knew, toss in claims that he was sabotaging the US via doge, seize his assets and toss him

Meanwhile at TSLA, the [discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/TSLA/comments/1ltg33p/we_are_falling_heavy_pre_market/) has 132 comments. All of which have been removed.

Another day another drop in Tesla stock. Edolf should step down.

Ok_Transition7785 2025-07-07 13:17

The dude has effectively alienated himself from all of America at this point. He is either the dumbest strategist of all time or, as I suspect, on heavy drugs and just impulsively emotionally spewing.

sant2060 2025-07-07 13:21

OK, former communism survivor here. How, and i mean HOW for fcks sake!!!, does someone political affiliation has so much impact in capitalist society? Its almost like capitalism meritocracy is a bullshit story and success is tied to scking political dck, just like it was with us in communism.

MarchMurky8649 2025-07-07 13:31

In this case it is quite simple. Musk has businesses that have, until now, received a lot of money from the government. Also the government can impose, or remove, regulations that make a huge difference to those businesses. A few months ago he was supporting the government. How he is attacking the same government. This will, understandably, have a huge impact on what people think his businesses are worth, especially because the current POTUS is well-known to be vindictive.

bikesnotbombs 2025-07-07 13:31

those two things aren't mutually exclusive

sonicmerlin 2025-07-07 13:33

Didn’t he just fire the chief sales guy and claim he’d be putting himself in charge? lol

Samjamesjr 2025-07-07 13:34

It’s dicks all the way down, sorry.

EarthConservation 2025-07-07 13:37

The stock dropped because of the BBB passing, which removed the EV tax credits, regulatory credits, battery production credits, and solar/battery storage credits. All of which will significantly reduce Tesla's annual net income. In 2026 alone, that could account for $5.6 billion in reduced net income... which compared to 2024's net income of $6.5 billion (excluding one time crypto accounting change), that's an 86% reduction. By 2028, when the battery storage credits are revoked, it could reduce their annual net income by about $8 billion. Did his political party shenanigans play some part in it? Maybe. Maybe not.

razor_train 2025-07-07 13:40

He's also now in charge of US and Europe sales as well. Man that guy is just talented!

EarthConservation 2025-07-07 13:41

The political party likely has little to do with why the stock dropped 7%. As I said in another comment: "The stock dropped because of the BBB passing, which removed the EV tax credits, regulatory credits, battery production credits, and solar/battery storage credits. All of which will significantly reduce Tesla's annual net income. In 2026 alone, that could account for $5.6 billion in reduced net income... which compared to 2024's net income of $6.5 billion (excluding one time crypto accounting change), that's an 86% reduction. By 2028, when the battery storage credits are revoked, it could reduce their annual net income by about $8 billion."

EarthConservation 2025-07-07 13:42

It was reported by multiple news agencies. There was some other false news floating around though.

razor_train 2025-07-07 13:43

>How, and i mean HOW for fcks sake!!!, does someone political affiliation has so much impact in capitalist society? It goes far beyond "affiliation". This is entirely about *identity*.

EarthConservation 2025-07-07 13:45

That CFO came from Solar City, who was hired into Solar City shortly before Tesla bought it out in one of the most corrupt deals I've ever head of. He quickly rose through the ranks at Tesla... I'm sure we can imagine why someone would rapidly rise through the ranks of Tesla; I'm guessing questionable ethics has something to do with it. Last year, he was the highest paid CFO in the US (maybe the world?) at $140 million, and even made more than the CEOs of Microsoft and Google combined, even though Tesla's revenue, net income, and share price are significantly lower than either one of Microsoft or Google. There's really no justification for it. Would this guy have left Tesla if he didn't receive $140 million in pay in 2024? Probably not. So why aren't the shareholders up in arms about this? Well they've proven they don't want to shake the tree at Tesla, for fear of the hyperbloated share price that's floating high in the sky based on nothing but hot air doesn't cool off and fall back down to Earth.

Withnail2019 2025-07-07 13:49

He won because his opponent was clinically dead

SolutionWarm6576 2025-07-07 13:51

Yeah. And I think the vote to approve Elon’s 50 billion dollar compensation package again, by the shareholders, is coming up in a few weeks. Going to be very interesting.

liquidgrill 2025-07-07 13:57

Don’t worry. One of his robotaxis will veer into oncoming traffic and kill someone which will definitely be “good news” and drive the stock right back up 20%.

bikesnotbombs 2025-07-07 14:05

obviously, think about how valuable that dATa is and is only going to make it better. plus a human driver would probably have killed two people

account_for_norm 2025-07-07 14:09

He is naturalized american.  We need to stop this bigotry. Someone who is born in USA is more american than others.  Elon is a dipshit, but there are others who are genuinely great humans.

Top_Junket2991 2025-07-07 14:09

Retail buy the dip. Wonder how it's working for those that bought the dip at 450

Inconceivable76 2025-07-07 14:13

His brother is just fine I’m sure. Plant a seed day will be their number one initiative.

dtyamada 2025-07-07 14:15

Given the article mentions him targeting only 2 or 3 senate seats and 8-10 house seats, it already sounds like a scaled down version. So the real party will probably just be 1 guy running for an HOA.

DescendedTestes 2025-07-07 14:29

Anything but working at Tesla!! Please don’t make me think about Tesla!!

DescendedTestes 2025-07-07 14:33

Why and how such an unpopular figure sees now as the time to create a new party, proves how out of reality Musk is. His thought process is somewhere in Mars.

techbunnyboy 2025-07-07 14:56

Any guesses how many votes he will get?

BumbleSlob 2025-07-07 14:56

Imagine paying $230,000,000 so that you could lose $5,600,000,000 lol This has got to be the top of r/leopardsatemyface of all time right?

StanchoPanza 2025-07-07 15:04

Private statement from Tesla's BoD: "Jesus F\*\*\*ing Christ, Elon"

FlipZip69 2025-07-07 15:08

Or maybe it was the accident Tesla has already had with the taxi rollout? Within 2 weeks and only 10 cars...

FlipZip69 2025-07-07 15:09

Tesla board are all sycophants. They are paid billions in shares and no one will rock that boat. It has nothing to do with valuation and everything to do with how much money can they get out till this deck of cards folds.

rbt321 2025-07-07 15:09

3 senate seats would give Musk full control over the senate. Dems and Reps frequently split the vote down to a 2 seat range; Musk's new party would have the tie-break on most votes.

DhOnky730 2025-07-07 15:23

Wait, so he actually does something that is good for the US (and obviously self-promoting, attempting redemption tour), and wouldn’t require all his time (just establishing a PAC and funding it), and his stock tanks. But any bad news about the company comes out and the stock surges because retail investors think it’s good to buy all dips?

CompoteDeep2016 2025-07-07 15:30

Stop saying such beautiful things, you are getting my hopes up 😅

dtyamada 2025-07-07 15:44

I understand his intention with the claim. But he has a problem with follow through on his claims. Also, it depends where the seats come from. For example, if he takes 3 seats from republicans but dems get 52 seats, his 3 seats are almost useless.

[deleted] 2025-07-07 15:44

Someone's having a bad day.

LeakyFish 2025-07-07 15:47

He started the tech layoff trend, wiped out the income of hundreds of thousands of people trying to make a living wage, and performed multiple salutes of you know what. Not to mention him buying votes for Orange. Any time I see someone riding the new Juniper Y, I also salute them with my middle finger.

EarthConservation 2025-07-07 15:48

>Imagine paying $230,000,000 so that you could lose $5,600,000,000 lol $5.6 billion per year. And I think it was claimed he spent $277-$290 million.

CornerGasBrent 2025-07-07 15:50

What makes you think it would be the Republican Party? Not that I think it would be successful, but Musk's EV/pollution credits position doesn't even make him like a Bullmoose Republican of old. Musk for ages was basically seen as a liberal with Democrats in office supporting Tesla and if he wants those same kind of policies/legislation that have benefited Tesla, he'd have to go after Democratic voters to do so...but I don't think he'd be successful in this.

ChollyWheels 2025-07-07 15:52

The output may be vapor, but the input is reportedly one Billion a MONTH to fund AI, Behind that, of course, is the fantasy AI will give Tesla a competitive advantage in FSD and robotics. Meanwhile, actual car and battery development languish. For Tesla to succeed as a car company, much needs to happen \- define itself as a car company and put resources into that \- end losers -- cybertruck (ideally to rethink a very different cybertruck II), and maybe also end S and X, \- buy some promising battery maker to catch-up on new battery chemistries and formats \- end 1940s era AI and robot fantasies and put the money into cars but even in a world that might overlook Musk's quirks for a good cheap car, the fact he will profit if Tesla succeeds will continue to be drag on Tesla's fortunes... especially with the increasing number of real alternatives. But buying out Mr. Musk would be as expensive as it is unlikely. So hard to see any of those fixes occurring... until too lately perhaps. Big risk taking can be a good thing in a CEO, and Tesla is proof of that. But being able to walk away from failure and to change direction is another good thing -- one that appears to be lacking here.

CarbonInTheWind 2025-07-07 16:12

All they have to do is report another big decrease in profits and BOOM the stock will pop back up 15 points.

MarchMurky8649 2025-07-07 19:29

One time his wealth works against him. "Please don't revoke my citizenship or I will be unable to work in the USA, and without the income I can generate doing so my kids, who are US citizens, will suffer." He can support them, visit them, take them to Disneyland, whatever, all without having the right to be employed in the US, which he has, allegedly, acquired fraudulently.

cryo-chamber 2025-07-07 19:36

Yeah, and then it's been trading flat. This is just Wall Street saying they don't like the idea of Musk's nazi party necessarily. It'll potentially hurt Tesla's greatest commodity: its stock. Edit: grammatical error.
