So it’s truly not a car company, it’s a robutt company … lol. Imagine you own a car company and then not selling cars anymore and hitching your wagon to robutt humanoids. Probably start selling them and people will find out there’s an Indian remote piloting it in Bangalore.

Academic_Release5134 2026-01-28 22:50

And if you own a car, what interest do they have in continuing to support that part of their company?

VeryRealHuman23 2026-01-28 22:56

Elon just said they are killing the Model S and X, wtf.

DoritoDustThumb 2026-01-28 22:57

Wait, what? Seriously. 😂

TETZUO_AUS 2026-01-28 22:57

Seems like no SUV style or traditional truck. Only focus is Cybercab.

grantlandisdead 2026-01-28 23:01

converting Fremont to Optimus production. RIP the best car ever made (Model S)

DeceptiFob 2026-01-28 23:05

Seems new S and X gonna be revamped. Put in Texas.

zorg-18082 2026-01-28 23:06

It’s not a car company anymore. It’s robutts. If you’re interested in cars, just know that Elon is not

brandont04 2026-01-28 23:09

X should go and replace w Y L. It's a model Y w more room than the X but without the expensive doors.

zorg-18082 2026-01-28 23:11

I mean I guess the strategy for milking investor rubes is after you’ve sold hopes and dream for cars long enough that it’s show me time, but you know deep down in your plums that you won’t ever hit your targets for cars, you pivot the entire company to hopes and dreams for robutts. Rinse and repeat.

Uclat 2026-01-28 23:17

Never said that anywhere

Weird_Transition3604 2026-01-28 23:21

Don't just make shit up

NeckBackPssyClack 2026-01-28 23:23

that'd be nice, but tesla is all in on autonomy. They've even said roadster is the swan song of human driven cars.

steelmanfallacy 2026-01-28 23:26

Will be interesting...I have a MX with free lifetime supercharging. I'm sure there will be a redefinition of "lifetime" to mean time of model production.

VeryRealHuman23 2026-01-28 23:27

yeah get rid of the falcon doors and make them operate like a normal car...drop that price $10k and that's it...wont happen ever though

Vadim_Dubovitsky 2026-01-28 23:55

Tesla is not SEXY anymore

damonlebeouf 2026-01-29 00:20

car would sell like hot cakes.

plun9 2026-01-29 00:27

C3CSY

OkAmbassador8161 2026-01-29 00:27

That also means don't buy a car company that's not focusing on cars in the future.

Blobwad 2026-01-29 00:54

Honestly the doors have been a huge turnoff for me. Would never have considered getting one with those things, but would definitely get a y “xl”.

Neither-Phone-7264 2026-01-29 01:12

They'll probably just leave it until the cars break down tbh i hope...

steelmanfallacy 2026-01-29 01:13

🤞🏽

iiTool 2026-01-29 02:11

Musk still needs to manufacture and sell another 12 million cars on top of the 1 million yearly robotaxis for the next decade so Telsa consumer auto's and the respective teams behind them arent getting chopped yet

Academic_Release5134 2026-01-29 03:37

They won’t get chopped but we will continue to see service decline and superchargers more and more crowded.

18randomcharacters 2026-01-29 04:02

Hasn’t been for a long time.

coolshoes 2026-01-29 05:09

Fit-Computer5129 2026-01-29 08:25

In Denmark 45% Model Y fails mandatory 4 years inspection, for comparison WV has a 1,8% inspection failure rate. Production quality turned out to be worse than expected, i own a Model Y and wont be buying a tesla ever again.. its not some weird anti US agenda, its just pure and simple, bad quality experience.

davewuff 2026-01-29 09:23

Thank god, 0 volume on those two models

Woodtoad 2026-01-29 09:39

I need a source for this, because I frankly don’t believe that Teslas are that bad and VWs are that good lol

Lilacsoftlips 2026-01-29 11:23

They’ll probably argue in court that a reasonable person could not expect “lifetime” to mean the life of the vehicle, just like “Autopilot” and “Full Self Driving”.

Fit-Computer5129 2026-01-29 12:23

okay WV was 2% failure not 1,8%.. but still the build quality is just that bad..

red_dot69 2026-01-29 12:48

We're seeing similar mentions and reports in other countries as well (Finland, Germany, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands) including some dangerous defects such as with the rear-suspension. It looks like Tesla might be aware if you look at the FY 2025 10-K which shows a significant increase in Tesla's warranty reserve (the "provision"/allowance for warranties and potential recalls, if identified). Total accumulated warranty (balance) will vest in FY 2025 End of 2025: $8.607 billion End of 2024: $6.716 billion → +$1.891 billion (+28%) This is worrying. Let's hope their robotaxi's are more reliable.

BHunsaker 2026-01-29 15:45

As a rube, I bought three cars and a house remodel just off the gains in my Tesla stock investment. As consumers we might desire ever improving widgets even if they’re low profit. That’s not how investing works. Look at Panera Bread. Total enshitification. But the private equity firm (investor) is making money.

grecy 2026-01-29 17:34

What about the Model Y causes 45% of them to fail the 4 year inspection?

Alfredo_BE 2026-01-29 20:14

https://www.elbil24.no/nyheter/norsk-bestselger-slaktes-i-danmark-rasende-hoyt-tall/84130816 > The faults that are common on the Tesla Model Y are found in the steering, axles, wheels, tires, brakes and lights, FDM states. The most common fault is looseness in the suspension, which was found on 22 percent of Tesla Model Ys.

grecy 2026-01-29 20:54

thanks

BasicHorror1157 2026-01-30 02:34

Honestly I was really excited to stick with Tesla's but with all the drama and their focus shift away from cars and new models I have no reason to stay with the band.

Pec0ne 2026-01-30 04:06

Clearly they don't care about EVs anymore. Time to go with a brand that cares about their customers and doesn't lie to them for 10+ years straight while taking their money. R2 looks more appealing by the minute.

skotywa 2026-01-30 05:04

**C**ybertruck Model **3** **C**ybercab **S**emi Model **Y**

plun9 2026-01-30 05:05

Cybercab

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-30 06:04

They’re still increasing the number of superchargers quite rapidly, both sites and stalls. And the energy side of the business is going nuts at the moment, so I can’t imagine they ever remove free supercharging from Model S/X owners, especially since that was a promotional feature when buying the car (for a good chunk of owners)

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-30 06:04

It’s not a lot of cars relatively, so I’d assume that’s the plan

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-30 06:05

I agree, Model S has been the best car all three generations of its production

Aerodynamic_Head 2026-01-30 06:14

That looks like a sideways ballsack.

JotainPitaaYrittaa 2026-01-30 07:24

Get your Y serviced annually or every two years, like legacy cars, and the rate will drop massively. Looseness in the suspension accounts for the vast, vast majority of the inspection failures. It doesn't make the car dangerous to drive and most people won't even notice it (or they would take the car for service). Many people change the worn out parts themselves, spare parts are easily available and cost in the range of tens of euros. Not saying this is fine, but Tesla's policy of not enforcing regular service means many people think their car is not like every single vehicle in the market that requires maintenance every now and then. Then again, I prefer this policy as before Tesla I hated forced regular service visist where you pay 500€ for them to check your "blinker fluids". My MIG MY is by far the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Far more reliable than, for example, the german "premiums" I used to drive before. And it's not even close.

wait_whatwait 2026-01-30 12:27

How can they start mass production of something nobody has ever really seen, used or put orders for?

InertiaCreeping 2026-01-30 20:33

Don’t know about the EU, but the tolerance on the rear knuckles is a big issue in NZ - Tesla allow 1mm of slop, NZ regulators (and owners) think that’s crazy and keep failing them at inspection time, heh

hadronflux 2026-02-01 06:09

Plus the problem space of a home robot is many times more complicated than driving and we still don’t have that. It will be a fancy chat bot that just uses the LLM. Once it can clean, do laundry, and cook, then we will see.
