I've had this for months already. Useful feature.

Rfreaky 2026-01-27 08:31

What? That's not new.

DieSackgasse 2026-01-27 08:33

had this for a year

paulospanda 2026-01-27 08:36

So what happens? You open the door, hold the handle out until the cable unlocks, then close the door?

[deleted] 2026-01-27 08:37

[deleted]

PrintMost2146 2026-01-27 08:39

It will open the door always.

robin-thoni 2026-01-27 08:55

As others said, we've had this feature since June/2025.20.3. At least on 3 and Y. Where are you located? What model do you have?

anontr8r 2026-01-27 08:56

Yes

Crossgolf 2026-01-27 08:58

Enhance commander has this forever. Also for the frunk.

ken830 2026-01-27 08:59

Wouldn't work for model x.

istros 2026-01-27 09:00

You don't even have to open the door, just pull the door handle for 3 seconds. Edit: as people mentioned it's actually difficult to fully close the door while pulling the handle, i'm an idiot aha

zivac 2026-01-27 09:11

maybe for S? Its old news for 3/Y

FutureLarking 2026-01-27 09:22

That does, in fact, open the door. You do have to close it.

SeBsZ 2026-01-27 09:23

Pulling the door handle opens the door, what are you talking about?

Lone_Wolf_555 2026-01-27 09:24

I just got this today as well. ‘22 MYP with FSD.

robin-thoni 2026-01-27 09:25

Interesting. Which market?

istros 2026-01-27 09:31

You don't have to fully open it, you can pull the handle et push forward in the same motion. Are we being this picky lol

M1lk4h0l1c 2026-01-27 10:26

Germany, 2023 M3P, had this feature for months as well.

xylarr 2026-01-27 10:31

Exactly. It's super convenient.

ban-a-nan 2026-01-27 10:42

From my experience you need to open it fully to be able to properly close it after the cable unlatches. I've found it difficult to close a 3/Y door while holding the doorhandle.

ban-a-nan 2026-01-27 10:43

It will open the door, but it's often still more convenient than reaching for your phone/car's screen.

RicMedio 2026-01-27 10:58

Tesla has had this feature in Europe for half a year already.

rsnhakan 2026-01-27 11:00

Why crosspost this? Your answer: [https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/1qo6r1n/comment/o1zje9q/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/1qo6r1n/comment/o1zje9q/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

istros 2026-01-27 11:13

You got a point

Sulya_be 2026-01-27 11:46

Hah, that's how my S3XY commander was configured for 2 years already. Best 200 EUR I ever spend on my Tesla Also does the (basic) autopilot auto resume after lane change

christmas_ape 2026-01-27 11:58

Hope I get this soon. I'm still on 2025.44.25.3. This feature would be very helpful so I don't have to take my phone out to unlock the charging cable

SlendyTheMan 2026-01-27 12:45

They need to make it when charging with an adapter, when pulling out the J1772, the charge port doesn’t try to immediately shut and close.

Pliskin01 2026-01-27 13:25

I’ve wondered for a while, how it is more convenient than just pressing the button on the cable and pulling it out? What is the use case?

Otontin 2026-01-27 13:31

For third party charging cables or if the button doesn't work

Zebraitis 2026-01-27 13:53

This. While I have a Tesla mobile EVSE kit with a ton of different adapters, my home charger (EVSE) is the same one that I used for my 2017 Bolt. By putting an adapter tip on that, the 30Amp charger does a fine job of charging my car at home. Simplifying unplugging is appreciated. My AeroVironment charger worked great on the Bolt and works great on the Tesla. Both supported delayed charging, bullet prof product. fyi: AeroVironment was the company that built the [Solar Challenger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacCready_Solar_Challenger). So, they know a thing or two about EV needs. They got out of the business as the government contracts for high altitude solar drones was just too enticing. If you get a change to pick up one of the plug-in AeroVironment EVSE's used on eBay (often as low as $100) I highly recommend.

paulospanda 2026-01-27 13:55

I tried it and it worked wonders. It’s weird as a solution, but gonna be mega useful when getting my phone out is a chore. Cheers folks!

exjr_ 2026-01-27 14:02

It’s a new feature for NA vehicles. EU had this feature already.

HeyBeers 2026-01-27 14:18

Welcome to S3XY app features. Lol.

Pliskin01 2026-01-27 14:31

Gotcha, makes sense. Thanks!

tynamic77 2026-01-27 14:47

I got this on my 2018 model 3 US last night. Maybe the feature wasn't out for Intel cars yet?

robin-thoni 2026-01-27 14:51

Have an Intel 2019 M3LR, and got the feature last year. I'm in EU, if that matters.

Gumagugu 2026-01-27 15:00

All cables supplied by Tesla in europe is missing the button.

SteveLangfordsCock 2026-01-27 15:07

I didn’t know about this feature but now I do, thanks

FearTheClown5 2026-01-27 15:34

Wasn't available in the US originally for anyone wondering.

hoang51 2026-01-27 15:56

I'm still waiting for Grok for my Intel/HW3... Any day now... :P

Macademicz 2026-01-27 16:02

My button seems to not work well in freezing temperatures, I didn’t even know we could do this. I will be trying it next time I have that glossier as I don’t want to open the app up and take my gloves off.

Decent-Gas-7042 2026-01-27 16:19

Handy and eveyrthing but seems weird to push it out on its own. 2022 MY in Canada, update pending

5upadec 2026-01-27 16:21

I've programmed the button on my iPhone with 8 useful shortcuts. One of them is to unlock the charging cable.

zer0kewl007 2026-01-27 16:55

Now just need an emergency feature that allows you to drive off with the cable attached if youre in danger.

tarrasque 2026-01-27 17:38

2023 Y AMD and I just got this update this morning.

Lone_Wolf_555 2026-01-27 17:49

Northwest USA. Not sure why I didn’t have the option before. I got the Christmas update in December. It looks like the only thing the update added was the charge port unlock.

Lone_Wolf_555 2026-01-27 17:50

I got it last night and I have HW3 Ryzen

Pliskin01 2026-01-27 18:21

That’s wild. Any reason?

Gumagugu 2026-01-27 18:22

I have no clue.

slowrick-tallmorty 2026-01-27 19:35

Got this in Dubai few months ago

cykb 2026-01-27 21:50

Under rated feature. Use it a lot.

cdurbin909 2026-01-27 23:46

I don’t think it’s a convenience thing, I think it’s a backup thing.

sadmadtired 2026-01-28 00:41

Ooh, neat. No more having to load into the app or get in first

hawkeye000021 2026-01-28 00:42

I don’t always supercharge if this is related because why would this be all that useful to get a post?

xylarr 2026-01-28 02:02

I almost never charge at Tesla branded chargers. Only Tesla ones have the button to unlock the cable.

xylarr 2026-01-28 02:04

When almost all of the charging you do is with cables that do not have a button release, it certainly is convenient.

icy1007 2026-01-28 02:21

It’s new for the U.S.

icy1007 2026-01-28 02:21

It’s new for the U.S.

icy1007 2026-01-28 02:21

It is for US cars.

icy1007 2026-01-28 02:22

Europe superchargers have the button.

notabot53 2026-01-28 04:06

I have always done this for years

Gumagugu 2026-01-28 04:22

Sure. I was talking about AC charging.

Ninj4s 2026-01-28 14:24

Older S/X has the button next to the charge port. Not sure what i'll do without if i upgrade.

Trihardest 2026-01-28 16:34

Can someone explain why this feature is needed ? Edit: nvm. Finished reading the small text. Thought you could unlatch from the screen. So guess I’m lost

ken830 2026-01-28 17:29

I've owned an early '13 S and a '22 X and been around various S and X vehicles throughout the years and have no idea what button you're referring to.

Ninj4s 2026-01-28 18:07

This one: https://i.imgur.com/sf9ZNet.png Little nipple to the left of the charge port. Some years ago they added the feature where you can press it to release the locking pin.

ken830 2026-01-28 18:42

Thanks. Guess I've never had a car in those middle years.

alphacross 2026-01-28 23:00

Both the wall connectors and mobile connectors have the buttons here in the EU. Though because tesla’s use the type 2 standard and CCS2, third party charging without the button is extremely common

kvguy81 2026-01-29 14:34

Just got this installed this morning on 2023 M3

7ipofmytongue 2026-02-01 05:57

What about the manual release cable in the trunk? Assuming that works as before.

Wrong-Inveestment-67 2026-02-04 17:03

Finally. It's so stupid the mobile charger button doesn't do anything, while the superchargers use it to open the charge port or release the handle.
