Seems like a weird email just got pushed, the one many of us got weeks ago…
I’ve given up all hope on ever getting that trial
I want a free trial!
I don't trust FSD, even when it's free.
This is probably the 4th trial I’ve got since getting my m3p last year. Are you on older hardware maybe? This is all for data collection after all
Sucks for you then. I’ve used it the past month and it hasn’t had one issue.
Yeah, my wife got the trial, and I did not. Her Model Y is HW4, while my Model 3 is HW3.
No. New car picked up 11/15, delivered with FSD 13.2.9, so I was on factory software for a month. Now I’m getting regular updates with FSD 14 but never got the trial.
Do you say this based on anything? Autopilot is amazing and even FSD on my HW3 car has been very good in previous trials.
Ahh maybe there is some sort of cooldown period after getting a fsd trial, I have never got them back to back like that
Sucks to suck i guess.
Absolutely. I've tried FSD during two different trial periods. I found that: 1) FSD brakes too late on the freeway (you can see the brake lights from a mile away), sometimes causing cars behind me to panic brake to avoid collision, 2) FSD accelerates to slow on the freeway after braking, causing gaps in traffic, 3) FSD likes to seek the #1 lane and stay there, sometimes causing traffic slowdown and passing on the right, 4) FSD often makes poor choices in complex downtown traffic, and 5) FSD sometimes acts irraticaly if the sensors aren't very clean. Ultimately, FSD requires just as much attention babysitting it as just driving the car.
I'm kind of a Tesla hater since Elon's MAGA shenanigans, and I have to say it's fantastic when I use it. I semi-regret buying it when I got my M3 LR in 2021, but it really is so good. There were heavy heavy fog conditions Christmas Eve here, and it was navigating far better than I could have. I could barely see anything.
I haven't gotten any free FSD trials in a year.
I’ve gotten it twice, both times in November - 2020 MY
Maybe. I just figured they were trying to hype and push 14 to as many as possible. Why would people who had a new car delivered with 13, which shouldn’t have happened anyway with 14 out to the public, be denied a free trial of 14? So I’m sure all new deliveries just fell through the cracks
are these for newer ones? works with v12 44.3?
You know that Teslas require vision to navigate, right? If you can't see well, it can't either. Elon got rid of LIDAR years ago. That's why camera lenses must be clean of dust, snow, mud, etc.
Count yourself lucky. It’s soooo good now. Stupid trial gonna cost me $99/mo going forward. I’ve driven 2,900 miles on my current trial and it’s been basically flawless.
Or you could just Google if cameras can see better in fog than humans and stop being a fucking idiot.
They don’t want to give HW3 owners a free trial because it can’t achieve FSD. It’s just adds another person onto the class action lawsuit if they decide to buy it.
OP, did you previously have FSD v14 or are you coming from v13?
Have a 2024 m3p (HW4) and they gave me the trial from Dec. 3 to Jan. 3
Message your local service center and see if they can maybe look into it.
I figured that might be the case.
Sending all the good luck your way!
Strange not even a notification etc?
You assuredly are missing very little. I've had a handful of FSD trials, and all each has accomplished was reinforcing my decision not to buy and/or subscribe to FSD.
I’m on HW4
Fingers crossed they release a low cost retrofit for older hardware.
I subscribed one month to FSD and after that was it.
Sweet!
I’m still on 12 and they still gave me the trial. I heard 14 took away manual speed control so I didn’t update.
It sucks with the snow. They need more data tho. I’d be happy to help them gather data
For me, this one was different. I'm almost entirely FSD atm
That’s cool of them. Drying to drive up sales letting people know what they are missing out on. I love having FSD
Intel vs AMD HW3 cars is another aspect of it. Intel HW3 cars are even further behind, the list of new features that Intel cars miss out on keeps growing with every update. Graphics heavy features are left out from Intel, which would probably be another aspect to potential HW4 retrofits. I'd be thrilled if a HW4 retrofit upgraded the MCU to AMD, similar to how MCU1 had an upgrade to MCU2, but I highly doubt that would happen. Best realistic scenario I can think of is Intel cars getting a HW3.5 upgrade and AMD to HW4, but most realistically nobody's getting anything and Elon tells us we've owned our cars too long and to buy a new car if we want the latest FSD version.
You should upgrade to version 13, if that's still possible.
Sorry for my ignorance but is there a difference in the FSD computing in intel and AMD cars? Are they on the same FSD versions? I know graphics are a lot different but not about underlying FSD.
They are waiting out hw3 cars being off the road
They never had lidar. They had radar, which is what got eliminated.
I took delivery on a 26 model y a couple weeks ago. They gave me a free month for buying the car but came with fsd13. Once it updated to 14 about a week later they sent me this email. I didn’t figure I would get it as I had just received a free trial but they did stack them and now I’m covered though the middle of February. 🙏
No. The only thing I can think of is that I've paid for it of and on depending on the month.
FSD is on a seperate board, AMD vs INTC doesn't come into play for how the car drives on it's own for HW3 cars at this point. But newer FSD routines are integrating Grok. Will FSD 14 lite include grok for Intel cars? Unknown. Will FSD 14 lite include grok for AMD cars, very much so. So either we get * FSD 15 on HW4 * FSD 14 lite with Grok on HW3 AMD * FSD 14 lite minus Grok on HW3 Intel or * FSD 15 on HW4 * FSD 14 lite on HW3 AMD/Intel (both getting Grok) and that is the big question.
This trial is for people using fsd14 only
Ahhh. Makes more sense now. Thanks for the clarification.
> Fingers crossed they release a low cost retrofit for older hardware. They may not need to retrofit if FSD 14 lite can be distilled into a HW3 compatible package (which is planned for early 2026)
Nope, never got the free month.. you are fortunate
I haven’t received the trail. HW4 model Y and I subscribe to fsd
Are these being rolled out for HW4 only?
I tested a new Y's FSD earlier this week and had a HW4 Y for two weeks about a month ago. Both showed how pathetically bad the paid for HW3 FSD on my 2017 X is. I'll be damned if I will buy a new Tesla unless they want to transfer my FSD and FUSC to a new Y. The TACC on my X is barely usable. Autosteer and FSD are dangerous. Tesla has repeatedly given long time customers the middle finger.
"Had our cars too long" my 2024 Model Y is HW3 because in Australia, the Shanghai factory only did the switchover to HW4 in March 2024 :'( we still don't have FSD enabled here for HW3 and got told we're getting "FSD Lite" "at some point in the future". It's so frustrating.
More accidents during the holidays. Finger pointing at everyone else.
I got the free trial too. HW4 Model 3
Old lol
I know how ridiculous this sounds, but this time they've actually done it. I'm 95%+ FSD over 2500 miles now. It's actually shocking to me that they might finally be closing in on true unsupervised FSD.
I just took delivery of model Y today.. FSD 13. 3 months free trial. I love it! Especially cool is being able to summon the car to me automatically after I leave a store .
My son still hasn’t gotten it. I wonder if it’s because at his apartment he can’t get his car on WiFi so he only updates the software a few times a year when he’s home from college.
I use it every day for highway and city driving and it is very very good. 80 miles a workday on average.
lol
FSD is smooth and it'll make mindful decisions but it's not worth the sticker price at all
Likely part of it! The trial isn't to just show off FSD to potential customers, it's also to widen their dragnet of data collection. If you aren't using the latest software, or are connecting regularly to WiFi to share the data your car collects, your FSD usage in a data sense is much less useful to them so you tend to fall to the back of the line with things like update cadence or possibly even trials in this instance.
I didn’t renew my fsd on 12/26, am i likely to get this? I neeeed fsd back. When was the last time you had the subscription?
Lol I’ve gotten four trials since last September and still don’t like using it.
Wish I could get this email!
Hell I’ll never be able to get the trail. Running on 2018 hardware so I’m right there with you.
I got this when they gave it out weeks ago
When I picked up my model 3 I got 3 months of fsd from factory and while that was happening Tesla released a fsd demo for all cars and it just extended my 3 months to 4 months, it didn’t cut into the 3 months at all.
DO IT!!!
I took delivery 11/4 I was still on the initial 30 day free FSD and they gave me the free trial and extended me until 1/15. Do you have “advanced” selected as the update method? And do you park it at night connected to WiFi?
I have no idea why the interest of fsd at this juncture of technological age.
The smell of desperation.
Under your active supervision? What's the point then, you might as well just drive it yourself if you have to actively supervise.
Isn't it only $99? You can all afford a $50k car but salivate at 1 month free FSD? Wow society is cooked.
I don't think so. We picked up our MY in November as well. We got the free trial as soon as our original free trial ended.
He’s home from college for the winter break so he’s all up to date but I figured perhaps they first send it out to people that update more regularly.
Try v14. It’s awesome.
Wow, I got mine at the beginning of December on my 2024 MY-RWD. It's going to expire the first week of January 2026. I've been using it as much as possible. It's not 100%, but provides about 90% of my FSD experience. It does make decisions that I would have selected differently. Still don't think it is ready for FSD Unsupervised. I do like the self parking and summon features.
Same. Running 95% right now. That 5% is basically late drive destination changes where I take over until I can program a new destination.
Free FSD for people who haven’t used it before on New Year’s Eve, what could possibly go wrong?
Not for the UK I presume
Fsd kicks ass
I got one, and my holiday treat is expiring on Jan 7th. FSD has been really impressive, with only one event that was... challenging. But at $8k, it's about $4k more than I would like to spend.
I used it for a few short trips. I prefer driving this car and have a lot of fun doing it!
My only worry is that the sample size of my own personal driving, even if I use it for an entire lifetime, is too small to robustly assess whether it's worth using from a safety perspective. If it's absolutely perfect but veers into the other lane every 5,000 miles, a month of trying it out wouldn't tell me that, even if it ran perfectly during that trial.
No you didn't. r/ragebait
I always find this interesting. I am curious, since it didn't work for you, what kind of area or road conditions did it fail you?
And that might be a big part of it. I live in the exurbs, more rural than urban or suburban. Lots of stop signs, and very few traffic signals. We're about 40 minutes away from the nearest divided or controlled access highway (and I find autopilot suffices well there). We live in the Pacific Northwest, so it's dry in the summer and wet and dark in the fall and winter, with very little frozen precipitation.
Use Grok for that. Does a great job of destinations and even inserting stops, all hands free.
Just buy it by the month. You'll get 6 years worth for the full price and certainly something will change before then. You might even get a new car.
Holiday is over pal :(
Yea I wish (hw3)
So, it behaves badly around stop signs and wet and dark? Maybe they need to train in such conditions more. Wet and dark, I can totally see it not being good at.
"Had our cars too long" will eventually apply when unsupervised FSD is released in 2028 lol
I love driving too. I also love using FSD on long commutes, road trips, or when driving somewhere new. Also comes in handy when attending to kids in the back seat.
I got my trial like the day after thanksgiving. Enjoy!
Just curious, did you demo drive the FSD before you bought it & if yes, what did you think of it then ?
And I’ll still have my 2014 with free charging and the best autopilot iteration. No thanks to FSD.
I have had it for about a month on hw4. 99% self drive. 1550 miles out of 1600 or whatever the math is. Pretty insane, I have had it a handful of times and Everytime it gets better.
Can you explain the best autopilot iteration part?
I bought it used. It came with FSD. I would not have paid extra for it. I bought it last year. The FUSC was an big plus. I hoped that the promise of usable FSD for older cars would be honored. It looks like it won't for either our X or our HW3 Y.
Yeah, if I can't see the lines, I can imagine the car so having difficulty with vision-based technology.
i got HW4 in late Sep, still no free trial
Trial life smh, so glad FSD came with my purchase of Launch edition. Couldn't imagine keeping my fingers crossed and waiting to be given a trial
I did my part, 73% on fsd during my trial period, long live the data!
my 3rd Tesla model 3P... the car and FSD are so much different and significantly better. 2023 Eagles compared to 2024.... similar but totally different. $99.00 a month is stupid cheap for what it does, what it offers, and the interface.
Same for me, i have the trial now and tried it 4 times. Its better than it was but nowhere near where i am comfortable using it anywhere besides on the highway. I had a phantom brake which sent my water bottle flying, it would randomly pick a lane that was turning even though i wasn't turning and it does it's best to drive through every pothole.
It’s not possible. The send the Latest update. If you don’t get it the update will eventually disappear.
Got mine as an early Christmas gift, 14.2.2.2 is a hoot!
I just want to know how to get my $250.00 deposit back from November 2019, for a Cybertruck!
FWIW, I have a 2021 model 3 and have had a few free trials. The caveat here is I do road trips a few times a year and buy the $100 FSD download for the months I road trip. Maybe there’s a weighting towards autonomy usage as well? Edit: I haven’t had this trial yet!
I have had FSD for 3 months now. Keep cancelling for a week then resubscribing 🤣
Welp, guess we’re both SOL
I owned two Tesla’s X & S The 2018 S 100D is still great. Quiet and comfortable ride. The X 2016 first generation had 10 years. Road noise and rough ride but reliable. Traded for a Lucid Gravity. I feel like I made a mistake. While Lucid is smooth and quiet, I want to trade in the new Gravity for a new 2026 Model X. I miss all the features and now very good FSD on my test drive. A little stiff on suspension and still road noise but willing to lose a lot of money on trade in because I miss all the features of the X. Great auto navigation satellite radio accurate Navigation great geo fence features good sound system improved range FSD trunk door access no window reflections auto door open and close
For those who have contributed to elon musk's bank account, you should have known better. Buy a Ford, Dodge or Chevy, etc.
The better not interfere with my signals.I can't even use gps because of noise in the air static. There's going to be so much noise in the air. This is not going to work.My gps doesn't work in the chicagoland area.on the z fold 5
There is no way a computer can drive through chicago traffic.Absolutely no way, there is no way to anticipate anything. It's chaos
The vehicles will become confused, and they will stop moving...
Makes sense as to why a Tesla just drove into a bunch of parked cars on my block very non nonchalantly. True story
This is my third trial of FSD one time I paid for a month and I’ve gotten two for free. The running theme for me is that FSD is the worst of both worlds. You can’t not pay attention and you aren’t in control. Every time I’ve had FSD I’ve struggled to see a point to using it other than boring driving like stop and go traffic which auto pilot is more than fine for. Why sit there and not drive when you have to pay attention like you are driving? I’d rather take a train or a bus if that’s the case.
We’ve had 4 free trials in the last 2 years. Getting ready to pull the trigger on purchasing FSD. The last 2 trials have been awesome.
Is canceling for a week getting you some kind of retention discount to resubscribe a week later, or you just miss FSD?
no i keep thinking i dont need it
How does the infotainment affect the FSD capabilities? I don't think any of the actual processing for actually driving happens on the Intel or AMD chips, it's just the visualization. The processing happens on the Tesla AI / HW chips.
Cool
I do when I can, but I mean more like I’m about to pass a store I wanna go to and I have to turn in right now. I have no choice but to grab the wheel and turn unless I wanna miss the turn and have to backtrack.
A little late but hey free is free right
We got it last year
