My dad had their insurance in NV if that matters. Never had to use it but it slowly increased without his safety score going down to the point where it wasn’t a value anymore. It feels like Tesla is trying to get out of the insurance business but yet they just now started offering it in Florida of all places?

Lovevas 2025-12-28 16:27

NV insurance premium is very high, it's across all insurance companies. My Quote in NV with GEICO, state farms, progressive all comes with $600-1000 a month, while Tesla and AAA insurance comes with $400ish. All with same terms. For the same insurance when I was in California, it's like 30% cheaper

Harryhodl 2025-12-28 16:30

I could never have this bc I like to speed, not recklessly but I don’t do the speed limit ever.

ImperfectDrug 2025-12-28 16:33

You also can’t drive past 11:00 without getting dinged, which was the bigger issue for me.

davidbrowniez 2025-12-28 16:48

And it’s not just a small ding either. I got home at 11:05 and my score went down 4 points.

Big skip. Not only because of the other valid points listed here, but because Tesla Insurance has a well-documented history of simply not answering the phone when they're needed. To the point that at least one State has already started the process of revoking their license, and they have no fewer than three pending class action lawsuits right now. So, maybe it'll be a little cheaper at the start but, from what people are saying here, even that increases very quickly, and none of that is worth the trouble if they simple refuse to answer the phone when you need them.

CptanPanic 2025-12-28 17:06

Anyone find out how to get a quote without signing up?

ios_static 2025-12-28 17:24

What’s the reasoning for that?

ImperfectDrug 2025-12-28 17:24

Yes. It’s crazy. I drive less than most people since I work remote, but one late night drive home from the mountains would result in something like 5% of my driving for the week being after 11:00, and my score would plummet and my rate for the entire next month would be elevated.  No thanks.

LithoSlam 2025-12-28 17:33

Insurance in Florida is already screwed up

Daveydlafo 2025-12-28 18:03

I wish GA would get it

Naturebrah 2025-12-28 18:05

I had it then dumped it. It was so freeing not being dinged all the time. I’m a comparatively good diver but it’s always there telling you you’re wrong. Cost kept going up and now it’s cheaper for me to have progressive..gotta love it

PhaTman7 2025-12-28 18:17

Insurance better outside of Tesla, just saying

hydrosplash444 2025-12-28 18:26

Been waiting for 2 months on getting repairs approved on an X. The car is at a Tesla repair shop with Tesla Insurance…no approval or anyone available to help.

Dino_Spaceman 2025-12-28 18:38

Never get insurance where your rate is based on your driving habits. This includes any insurance that requires an obd tracker.

ZeroWashu 2025-12-28 18:39

the issue is I doubt I can save sufficiently with their insurance given the discounts most companies give for bundling home and auto. heck some make it so that dropping one raises the other by nearly the same amount you paid

NickoliOgotav 2025-12-28 19:23

It says I need to update my app in order to register insurance but my app is up today to date.

GoodOmens 2025-12-28 19:36

I have a lawyer friend who has a client with a legit claim against Tesla insurance and they are trying everything to slime out of it, even when it's directly going against state law, which fortunately is making it "easy" for them to recover beyond needing a lawyer to get what they are owed....

No_Cattle_4552 2025-12-28 20:07

Just a heads up, they will deny your claim if you ever have to use it. They will make you prove you have been there less than 60 days.

MatthewSummer101 2025-12-28 20:24

State farm was cheaper for me. I had tesla insurance and it and it kept going up and up despite no claims or safety score decreases. Like others have said not being constantly monitored for your driving and being penalized for everything is freeing. Gets very annoying being dinged or if you are a passenger in a car it sometimes thinks you are driving etc, so clearing all the drives gets old quickly

Rob086020 2025-12-28 20:31

Only for new owners though

hprather1 2025-12-28 20:55

Per MONTH? Holy shit at that point you're paying for a modest used car every few years.

CptanPanic 2025-12-28 20:58

Why do you think? It is showing up in app for me.

Zebraitis 2025-12-28 20:58

No thank you. I was a previous customer in Colorado. The ONLY way you get a good score and low rates is FSD all the time. Standard normal driving by a human will ping you for unsafe distance, speeding, rapid deceleration (using the brake!) and anything else the computer wants to report. And then the rates go up and up. (that's how the git ya)

Due-Sheepherder5408 2025-12-28 20:59

Is it cheaper than other insurance

coding9 2025-12-28 22:08

Straight trash. They want $50 more than GEICO ($167 for Tesla) and having it adjust because it thinks a car on the side of the road is in the road and you're about to hit it is beyond dumb.

jmpalermo 2025-12-28 22:15

I don’t have these options because California doesn’t allow it. But if good drivers save money with these types of plans, the good drivers are going to end up there. Then all the other insurance companies are going to have to jack up rates if they don’t have the good drivers anymore.

Ok-Depth6073 2025-12-28 22:18

If a Tesla gets damaged due to accident, just total it and get a new one… it’s an appliance. It’s better to buy a new one than getting it repaired.

Rob086020 2025-12-28 22:30

Whe you got your Tesla ?

Free_Donkey4797 2025-12-29 00:05

Nope. You can set a start date in the future and just not hit the final submit button at the end. Still have to submit all the details and current photos. Annoying as hell, especially since Tesla already has access my vehicle lifetime driving history associated with my VIN. How hard would it be to give a rough quote based on that alone?

Free_Donkey4797 2025-12-29 00:10

Huh? I guess three years is still a new owner then. I have the option in my app. Went through the whole process. Rates were higher than what I’m paying with Progressive now.

TiredMillennialDad 2025-12-29 00:10

Facts

Rob086020 2025-12-29 00:11

What? I tried and didn’t let me said new owners at the moment got model Y last month and had Model 3 before

CptanPanic 2025-12-29 01:14

Years ago

Akimotoh 2025-12-29 04:05

Wtttfff? That is outrageous. What happened to the car?

Worried_Produce_1046 2025-12-29 05:14

Tesla insurance wanted $100 a month more for me here in Florida, would not allow.me to add my other 2 non tesla.evs as well. Garbage

Melodic-Control-2655 2025-12-29 13:46

It's not possible to be a good driver with these systems. Let's say someone cuts in front of you and then brakes for traffic. Do you: panic change lanes in an effort to save your insurance, or do you slam the brakes and put a harsh braking ding on your driving record, guaranteeing at least some increase on your premium. It fucks with the way you drive and it's marketed as a way to save you money. News flash, insurance companies don't develop new things to save you money.

Melodic-Control-2655 2025-12-29 13:47

no light = harder to see

blonded_olf 2025-12-29 14:02

I didn’t realize they still cared about rolling this out. When I got my car in aug 22 and Elon said it should be out in NY by the end of 22, I figured with typical Elon timelines I could expect it by the end of 2023…

Waterflies118 2025-12-29 17:16

*waits for NY’s turn*

WIlf_Brim 2025-12-29 17:41

It seems that Tesla insurance is the next thing to not having insurance at all, with the exception of not getting cited by the police for failure to insure.

PetriDishTech 2025-12-29 19:44

Tesla Insurance is awesome. You do everything over the app and you never have to talk to anyone ever.

Educational_Bag_7004 2025-12-29 20:24

How are you paying GEICO $167? I’m over here paying $350 ☹️. 23M single

coding9 2025-12-29 21:39

2 car discount. A little older than you. And I pay 6 months at a time for additional discount.

Nreekay 2025-12-29 23:46

My advice as someone who had it. Only use it if you Can not find anything as close to the price. Even is you have to pay 5-10% more elsewhere, go elsewhere. Thankfully it off this garbage now 😂

Nreekay 2025-12-29 23:47

Same. Did I did notice how my FCW went from 3-7 a week on the insurance to 1 a week off the insurance.

Head_Bet_2138 2025-12-30 00:08

I pay $96.50 for my MYP per month lol 😂

Head_Bet_2138 2025-12-30 00:09

Same here ;-)

jmagill2357 2025-12-30 02:04

Only in new deliveries

Hot_Storm3252 2025-12-30 06:56

How’s the rate if you fsd all day everyday?

Lovevas 2025-12-30 18:51

NV probably has highest DUI rate and highest % cars with no registration or expired registration....

zZiggySmallz 2025-12-30 18:57

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you pay a month for progressive?

hydrosplash444 2025-12-30 20:13

It was hit and run off the frontage road (exists in Texas, think of a road running parallel to the highway with a ditch so the entire car is damaged). The Tesla repair center supervisor even contacted me and said they cannot get ahold of anyone at Tesla Insurance. Use them at your own risk.

opoppli00 2025-12-30 21:13

We got rear ended by an uninsured driver and had to use our uninsured coverage. Car was fixed at the Tesla Collision Center, and it was like pulling teeth to get Tesla Insurance to actually pay Tesla Collision. I actually started getting notices from Tesla Collision about refusal to pay. I ended up filing a complaint with the Tesla Insurance Commission before Tesla Insurance responded to me and actually paid Tesla Collision.

opoppli00 2025-12-30 21:14

Brace yourself. The only way you’ll get a response is filing a complaint with your state’s insurance commission.

hydrosplash444 2025-12-30 21:50

Was already previously filed with TDI 🤣

BusOk4421 2025-12-30 22:47

A tiny bit of caution. Had Tesla insurance for 5 days or so. You CANNOT get a human to sort out anything or even pick up the phone. At least I couldn't. I can't imagine what it would be like to work with Tesla during a claims process!

Super_Abalone_9391 2025-12-30 23:00

Never ever let your insurance company monitor your driving! No matter how cheap.

Educational_Bag_7004 2025-12-31 01:42

teach me your ways

Head_Bet_2138 2025-12-31 02:02

Zero accidents - zero claims - good driver since 30 yrs - self employed multiple car owner and home owner

Naturebrah 2025-12-31 03:09

Is anyone able to fsd all day every day? There’s too many times where I don’t because it can’t get in the right lanes when necessary and it takes almost nothing to get a fcw ding or too close following. I try to use it as much as I can but even then it’s maybe 80% of my time on the road.

Puzzleheaded-Duck700 2025-12-31 04:12

Definitely possible. My usage is currently at 99% over the last 5k+ miles on v14+. I really only take over to find a good parking spot now

Naturebrah 2025-12-31 04:33

Slow clapping for you. I do not have access to v14.

DougBTW 2026-01-01 14:48

To be honest I never understood why someone would get a tesla and not use FSD, at that point just buy any other EV

Zebraitis 2026-01-01 15:26

My reason is that I bought an EV performance car. Driving it is fun in sport mode, and it looks good when parked next to my '69 Vette roadster. Comparatively, FSD is as exciting as an Uber, albeit with less conversation. Still, if Elon wants to push FSD acceptance /penetration and cut the price to $4k, I would likely impulse buy it at that price point.

DougBTW 2026-01-01 16:07

Fair point! It is a beautiful car, and love the '69 Vette also!

Zebraitis 2026-01-01 18:20

What you cite as benefits is exactly what others are saying are detriment when you need them. If you live in a perfect world where accidents never happen AND you strictly use FSD, then Tesla is the best.

PetriDishTech 2026-01-01 21:51

I’ve gotten in 2 accidents with Tesla insurance and both times I did absolutely everything over the app and never spoke to anyone. It was the easiest process ever.

DougBTW 2026-01-05 04:40

Can confirm, same here 97% self driving aiming for 99%

TTP222 2026-01-10 20:12

I have a Cyberbeast and there is no way Tesla insurance would approve of how I drive it 😂

KevRooster 2026-01-11 23:27

That's why I switched.  They just don't answer the phone.

Zenoran 2026-01-14 04:19

Looool good luck with that.

nerdrap 2026-01-23 02:51

At this time, quoting is restricted to customers preparing to take new deliveries of Tesla vehicles Anyway they were more expensive than State Farm
