Didn’t they already have this? Or was it more buried? Edit: I misunderstood. It’s apparently more of a dynamic “widget” that acts like a compass without needing to click the location button. I think that’s really cool! But, not entirely sure how useful it is when you could just look at a full map, we aren’t pirates…

bannedbytheshadows 2025-12-10 14:32

“They”? Are you not one of us? The phone update gives you a compass arrow pointing towards the car’s location.

MisteriosM 2025-12-10 15:00

Depends, the map does not update if the tesla is not driving. Giving a wrog location after beeing towed. If this feature uses live data its better.

tannerwastaken 2025-12-10 15:05

Ummmm what? How is that even relevant

wesleyvb 2025-12-10 15:46

How often is your car being towed?

MisteriosM 2025-12-10 15:47

Not often, less than once a week, but its quite annoying, it was once towed twice, because they towed it into a no parking zone, so even after i got the location it was still wrong.

Tano_Guy 2025-12-10 15:56

At least it’s better than just showing the words “warmer” or “colder” on the screen until you find it.

erclark99 2025-12-10 16:05

??? You’re… a…Tesla Mobile App??? I’m referring to the Mobile App/Tesla Cars. I do in fact own one that’s why I said “wait don’t they [the cars/app] do this already” because I’ve used the location tab. I missed the part where they added a compas.

It's an edge case, but it would be cool to have. If it's in low power mode or you're checking on it normally, no change. If you go to the location tab then it'll ensure the car locates itself and updates

EljayDude 2025-12-10 16:48

Yeah it's fun although only one of our two cars gets the movable arrow. It's kind of odd.

mohelgamal 2025-12-10 17:52

It is useful for locating your car in a parking lot. Especially with the new “banish” feature of smart summon.

bannedbytheshadows 2025-12-10 18:01

I can’t wait til the day i go on a run and i ask the car to come pick me up.

erclark99 2025-12-10 18:56

Sweet! Thanks for explaining

thnok 2025-12-10 23:14

Yes! I also noticed the same but both are on the same OS and FSD versions.

AndrewNeo 2025-12-11 00:26

w..why

snark42 2025-12-11 00:31

Really, it doesn't update when it wakes up? Never been towed, but I just assumed it would update on wake-up. Odds are this just uses the saved location too in that case.

MisteriosM 2025-12-11 00:33

In fact it does not, no matter what you do in the app. You can sometimes guess where it might be based on sentry images.

nah_you_good 2025-12-11 03:38

For your use case you'd probably benefit from just sticking an airtag in there. That's why I did with my non-Teslas and it's fairly accurate. You could use it simply just to see if it's moved, but also the resulting destination will probably be reliable enough that you'll know which tow company took it.

I got towed once and went through the same thing. Had to find the tow operator sign at my girlfriend's apartment. Funny enough, when I got there, the tow guy threatened me if I tried using the app to move my car in the lot as it's happened before. They told me they put a forklift under his car and were going to flip it unless he stopped and paid up. Great times

Swastik496 2025-12-12 04:42

it was initially in the robotaxi

Swastik496 2025-12-12 04:43

once a week? or even anything around that? holy shit

Swastik496 2025-12-12 04:44

when tesla towed my car it was updating location the whole time.

Jestered2303 2025-12-13 03:22

It’s buggy for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s the old non-moving arrow. I can’t figure out why it sometimes is the new arrow that moves to point to the direction of my car, and sometimes it’s not.

idk the tesla roadside guy did it, hitched it up, and took it to the service center. Car had a shit ton of alerts after the collision center after a previous accident somehow fucked up a tire alignment so horribly every single safety feature was disabled and car said to pull over.

it was a 15 minute phone call to get them to pay for a resulting 200 mile tow. insurance is never that way when they don’t expect a call

Bocephis 2025-12-14 23:33

Mine is only dynamic sometimes but I can’t figure out what decides when it can move

DaFishX 2025-12-23 06:23

Not bad. I suppose for those that forget where they parked it can be of some help, although really, if you can't tell from the GNSS picture you're in pretty bad shape. Now if it gave relative altitude it sure make "what floor did I park on?" a lot easier too!
