It's a smart, low cost way to push people over the edge who may he hung up on that being a feature on a Tesla while GM doubles down on removing it. I know I'd consider one more strongly. There's an often quoted survey that 86% of people ( maybe iPhone owners? ) wouldn't buy a car without it. Why not remove that objection? And with Starlink eyeing an Apple partnership for satellite communications why not make an olive branch offering?

Other car infotainment systems with low end processing are able to handle it, so I believe Tesla could make it happen on MCU2/Intel Atom vehicles.

Oddly enough I feel like the Tesla UI is perfect for what it is, I've never felt like I was missing anything when driving the Tesla esp since you can send map locations to the car from your iPhone. The Tesla nav works really well in my experience but more options are always nice

It's an "app" that swaps out the ENTIRE info infotainment system. It would be mean that Tesla no longer thinks they can provide the best experience first party. I think it strives against everything they do and I don't want it.

This would be nice for the apps that Tesla does not support natively. If they bring this compatibility retroactively to the existing vehicles, I see no cons.

I would personally bet $200 this will not be happening. Unless they're desperate to increase sales, or Apple is paying them a huge amount to add it.

It's kinda funny, because apple has *very* dominant marketshare among higher income adults in the USA, but Tesla owners also tend to be techies, which are a little more likely to have an Android phone.

* Waze * Sane interface to music apps (have you tried searching for music in Tesla's interface? it's pretty confusing) * Your google maps favorites and history (don't have to share the address anymore) * Your messages can be read or displayed on the phone, including non-standard messenger apps * Hopefully podcast auto play, I had it in my Subaru and it was awesome, in Tesla I stopped listening to podcasts because basically it's an extra step to pick up the phone, activate the podcast etc etc

I doubt it has any impact on FSD, and I’m sure FSD is deeply integrating into TeslaNav anyways, so re integrating it into a series of third party apps sounds painful.

Bluetooth is a very lossy (compressed) type of audio transmission, and especially thru Tesla, BUT there are other codecs like AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) which is what Apple uses for Apple Music, that streams from phone to stereo at around 250-300Kbps (Kilobits Per Second). Basically all you need to know is higher transmission of data generally means higher quality audio and less compression.

some tweaks to the spotify app and better message handling (allow Whatsapp, handle group texts) could all be done within the existing Tesla ecosystem unless Meta and Apple are walling them off/requiring a big fee to integrate.

Now do AirPlay mirroring. It would definitely take the bandwidth strain off the car when trying to watch anything if people choose to just AirPlay it. I know I'd stop using all of the entertainment options in my Tesla if I could just AirPlay to that big ol' screen.

Why the hell would they do that? Had android auto in 3 cars and its consistently trash compared to the Tesla software. Don't have an iPhone but I would imagine its virtually the same thing. Why add 3rd party clunky software to go over what they already have integrated into the car that works way better?

I like when products have a cohesive user experience and push users toward good design. Obviously it would be way worse if it was forced on me, but I don't like the fact that there's even the option. Plenty of companies develop for Apple first. And some are Android first. The de facto gold standard flying info app (Foreflight EFB) is Apple ONLY in fact. Lots of pilots who are on android ALSO have iPads solely for flying.

I have worked in tech for 20 years; more engineers, devs, infosec, netsec, and IT guys are on Apple (iPhone, Mac, etc.) than anything else.

Because it doesn’t involve a change in hardware or retrofits. It would be a software update.

I've been Android for over 20 years it seems. Went iPhone for the 13 Pro Max, liked it but it was too constricting for a power user so I switched back and got a OnePlus 13. Much better!

I think Tesla needs more integrations with maps, music, etc which it lacks. If that were there, I wonder if CP/AA would be any better than native.

If you’re using it to directly stream Apple Music over the cellular radio, which requires premium connectivity or a grandfathered-in car, yes. If you’re streaming the music off your phone using Bluetooth, no. That said, most people that are not audiophiles will not notice the difference.

That’s only recently in the past 2 years. It has had a long period of core OS support. It has everything I need, snappier sentry viewing is the main thing I’d want but everything it lacks is a hard limitation. I’m waiting for the next gen MCU with AI5 before I upgrade my car

No - the Apple Music API provides two bitrate levels for streaming, `STANDARD` (64kbps) and `HIGH` (256kbps). In my 20 years tech experience tech users are more likely to be on Android due to lack of control of iPhone hardware/software. However, the younger one is the more likely it's iPhone. Even gen pop in the US is only 55-61% iPhone these days though.

I'm stoked for Apple people, but those of us who have Android phones just fucked again. I do not understand in 2025, the differences in between app development for both of these platforms is so minuscule, why don't we have a watch app or are we being considered for integration. I use Android Auto in both my other cars and it's far superior to Tesla's UI. The only benefit the UI has is that it integrates my charging stops but Google seems to do that for me as well now.

I have had good results with Tesla navigation in the U.K. Apple Maps on the other hand outside of the U.K. has caused me big issues when out walking and exploring places like Poland and Hungary.

This is explicitly so I can use my voice to respond to people who send me WhatsApp messages.

Which on atom CPUs, is painfully slow, has laggy video, desynced video/audio, and constantly gets logged out (might not be an Atom CPU thing). All of which would be resolved by relying on an iPhone to handle all that.

Not holding my breath. They can’t even manage to implement a decent version of non-FSD autopilot/TACC. It’s got to be the worst implementation of basic smart cruise control of any automaker. Impossible to make a smooth lane change without canceling it all together, still can’t figure out how to navigate wide lanes due to merge/street parking width (just follow the damn centerline instead of jerking the car over like a maniac or nearly sideswiping parked vehicles), etc. I feel it’s just gotten worse over the past year +. The amount of effort/press paid to FSD for the ~10% of users is ridiculous compared to the lack of effort for basic cruise control functions that ~90% of owners use. A base model economy car should not outperform any Tesla.

At least you Americans have it read your messsges. Nobody else uses SMS anymore, and it doesn't work at all with WhatsApp etc.

Another (probably more niche one) is private podcast RSS feeds. For whatever reason, private RSS feeds do not show up in the Apple Podcasts app in Tesla (not sure if this is a Tesla or Apple thing), so I have to use Spotify to access private RSS feeds in my Tesla, even though I don't subscribe to Spotify, so my progress isn't synced with the Apple Podcasts or Overcast app on my phone.

$100 a year for unlimited data that can be used for 4k streaming even(superchargers, road trips in the back on cars with two screens etc) is not that huge of a money maker.
