Still one of the best investments I’ve ever made. Just wish that I had gotten more than 2 of them. At least charge on solar helps mitigate some of the ‘issues’ caused by overproduction. I’d rather dump extra generated power into our cars than export it back to the grid.

trep88 2025-09-04 21:27

I work for Sunrun (nation’s largest installer of residential powerwalls). Everyone of my customers love their batteries 🔋

matttcheeww 2025-09-04 21:28

same, im debating if i should get another tesla since its basically same cost as a powerwall... Ecoflow setups are also looking super attractive too

Whit3boy316 2025-09-04 21:32

That doesn’t seem like very many

Stivo887 2025-09-04 22:20

PW3 is amazing here in CA with NEM3 and if you can get incentives for it, its an absolute no brainer. Its already saved me from several outages as well. Getting a 2nd one installed soon.

deeperest 2025-09-04 22:47

More than twelve.

modeless 2025-09-04 23:12

Yeah, and why are they still more expensive per kWh than whole cars that include a battery?

stefanbayer 2025-09-04 23:21

10k Euros for 13.5 kWh in Germany is too expansive. At least in my humble opinion they could do more for the price

con247 2025-09-04 23:23

Yeah this is the insane part. I figured a $10k unit would be like 50kwh, not a fraction

spennnyy 2025-09-05 02:34

The idea of generating your own power via solar and being insulated from the grid is so appealing. Just need to get a house first...

AnOoglyBoogly 2025-09-05 03:18

Everyone wants a second one but this is the reality. I’ll wait until this happens otherwise cost to benefit ratio not worth. Otherwise having a PW3 is awesome.

rkhan7862 2025-09-05 03:46

they can, they’re charging like 60k for 4 powerwalls.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-09-05 04:42

It's a lot. Tesla has sold 8 million cars and you see them everywhere. There's a Powerwall owner for every 1 in 8 of these that you see, which is still a lot.

LoudMusic 2025-09-05 05:11

I have 325A service to my house. At 240v (north america) that's 78kW potentially. How many power walls is suggested to cover that? It's actually a 200A service and a 125A service, wired separately in the house. It's weird. But I figure installing batteries and solar panels, change up the wiring. The actual loads are significant, though. It's an all electric house. 60A HVAC, another 60A HVAC, 30A blower, another 30A blower, 30A oven/range, 30A water heater, 30A dryer, couple dozen 20A circuits, and a 50A EV circuit. If the power is out, which is why I'd be installing any of this, really, I don't care about running any of the big loads. So the powerwall inverters just need to be able to run the fridge, lights, microwave, and a pile of electronics. Probably less than 1 powerwall's output. If I don't want to draw from the grid and still run all my systems, what's required?

Slogstorm 2025-09-05 06:23

Start small.. get a tent!

JackONeill12 2025-09-05 10:49

Small correction: It's 13.5 kWh not 10.

stefanbayer 2025-09-05 11:38

Thanks, for the info. Change my original comment :)

uosiek 2025-09-05 13:21

I've paid 10k for 16kWh with 20kW inverter, installation and paperwork

GOA_AMD65 2025-09-05 16:10

You would need to meet with a solar company or battery installer. Your draws are not nearly as high as your breaker amount. I have the older Power Wall 2 which put out 10kW and my house runs like normal when the power is out. I just don't run the dryer or hot tub as that would put me over the limit. New Powerwall setup PW3 would get you 26kW which is probably plenty but the installers can give much better estimates than anyone on here as they can look at your bills and current draw to devise a plan.

nametaken_thisonetoo 2025-09-05 23:04

So 1M people who've paid too much for something they can get elsewhere for less

Mantaup 2025-09-06 04:16

In terms of home batteries PW2/3 best options.

claytonrex 2025-09-06 05:21

I think powerwall was a game changer, but now there are so many great 48v options on the market for 1/2 or 1/4th the price per KWh, Tesla needs to catchup.

Palopsicles 2025-09-07 03:05

Installation is easy. It's working with city permits that make it more expensive. Some cities have codes that state that an Electrical Storage System has to be on a wall 2 Feet from any windows, doors, or any utilities. Cannot be installed on a wall opposite of a bedroom. If Installed inside the garage, a fire alarm system and water sprinklers must be installed. Like I kinda get it, but also I could see electric companies making more rules because they'll make less money.

uosiek 2025-09-07 23:05

That's the battery only, you need additional DC/AC inverter

Boniuz 2025-09-08 08:28

Once you see any high capacity battery set ablaze, or any high capacity transformer or inverter have a catastrophic failure, you know why those regulations are in place.

raygundan 2025-09-10 19:45

Agreed. It's so much cheaper to buy a whole car that something like [https://www.sigenergy.com/en/products/dc-charger](https://www.sigenergy.com/en/products/dc-charger) plus a used Tesla becomes a competitive option. I'm curious to see reviews/tests of it, but it's basically a home DC fast charger that can also do vehicle-to-home even with Teslas that don't support it out-of-the-box.
