A few other automakers have been doing this for a while now as well. Porsche in particular has been doing this with their Taycans so they can kick the depreciation hit down the road. I assume Tesla has the same issue where their predicted/contracted residuals are higher than their actuals and don't want to take the hit on their books so they are leasing them to even out the depreciation for another 2 or 3 years.

Starky_Love 2025-08-22 16:47

Sunny they strip your ability to purchase out of your less because they are supposed to be so called robo taxi's? This doesn't sound like a good idea at all with that respect.

Dr_Pippin 2025-08-22 17:16

"At the end of the lease, customers also have the option to buy the vehicle outright."

lusair 2025-08-22 17:43

Yeah they added that in the last couple years. When I bought mine in 2022 I would not have had the option to buy out a lease.

Real_Stranger_7957 2025-08-22 17:59

Why would I want to lease a vehicle like a entry level model 3 and have to worry about paying for repairs on it?

Lovevas 2025-08-22 18:09

Previously I checked Tesla earnings report, and I think lease profit margin is even higher than new car sales. So probably another way to improve profit margin

Lovevas 2025-08-22 18:11

Tesla also has warranty for the used car lease, similar to new car lease. Battery is 50K miles or 5 years, drive unit is 8 years or 100-150K miles (depending on models)

Fossi1 2025-08-22 18:25

I’d be interested here in Florida

cbelliott 2025-08-23 01:03

These deals are crazy attractive. In my opinion. Was looking at a 2022 Model Y long range AWD with the 19" wheels and with acceleration boost. For a 24 months lease with 15k annual miles the price was $271 a month. It is "$0" down and the TTL + an admin fee was about $3k.

BusinessLetterhead74 2025-08-23 02:11

Crazy great deals! Would highly consider but I picked up my juniper lease aug 11

GTFOScience 2025-08-23 03:13

People are doing 5-8 year leases? What?

Lovevas 2025-08-23 03:17

This is warranty term, not lease term

GTFOScience 2025-08-23 03:22

The battery warranty is 120k miles, you’re saying they lower the warranty to 50k miles? If you mean they give you 50k of miles during your lease term why would have an attachment of 5 years when their max lease is 2? Edit - I just looked it up and it’s still 120k on battery. 50k is the basic warranty. They give you an additional 10k miles or 1 year if that 50k is reached. Drive unit is 120k.

Lovevas 2025-08-23 04:06

the term I said is for used cars, not new cars. The term is for all used cars, regardless of your lease length. If you only lease for 2 years, then you are subject to the milage limit, not # of years limit

Wild_Ad4195 2025-08-23 04:31

I can’t see the option and I’m in CA

GTFOScience 2025-08-23 05:45

We’re talking about leases but you are wrong on both fronts.

Lovevas 2025-08-23 05:57

Why can't you do some simple search, instead of blaming me wrong? [https://www.tesla.com/support/vehicle-warranty](https://www.tesla.com/support/vehicle-warranty)

GTFOScience 2025-08-23 06:26

Are you a troll? That link shows the figures I posted above.

Key_Patience2681 2025-08-23 12:02

Used vehicles regardless of their current mileage get an additional 10k warranty. Here’s an example from Teslas page on a car with 90k miles on it. Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty 1 year / 10,000 miles Starting from your delivery date Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty October 2030 / 120,000 miles mileage coverage (whichever comes first)

LeagueLonster 2025-08-23 16:02

It was attractive until you mention fees 3k

cbelliott 2025-08-23 16:11

That's normal stuff Tax, Title, License, etc. Gotta pay that on any car you get lease or purchase. \*shrug The admin fee was \~$695 and all the rest was state specific fees.

According_Durian_757 2025-08-23 16:13

Cant wait to get these in wa state

Siciliano777 2025-08-23 16:45

$0 down and $3k "fee" don't really vibe well together...

Djrussell 2025-08-23 17:40

I got a used 2018 on Carvana. I really hope I don't regret it. So far so good.

Swastik496 2025-08-23 19:30

$400/month effective with actual $0 down then. less good but still attractive as a rental car option for 15k annual miles.

rdrcrmatt 2025-08-23 22:24

Just checked pre-owned model s plaid, no good deals.

Darkalchemist999 2025-08-23 22:25

No model s?

JoeyValy 2025-08-23 22:48

Is there a tax credit for the lease?

TurtleCrusher 2025-08-23 23:19

Wack

cbelliott 2025-08-24 00:32

What specifically do you think is wack? I'm curious.

TurtleCrusher 2025-08-24 01:12

Dude just shut up. There’s no reasonably curiosity about that.

cbelliott 2025-08-24 02:34

Ok my friend. I'll just presume you have never bought a car before and that's why you think TT&L are "wack" as you put it. That has always been a part of every lease or purchase I've ever done. 🤷 I'm excited for you to get your first car someday hopefully soon! Take car lil fella.

TurtleCrusher 2025-08-24 03:21

Bought plenty. That’s a completely negotiable fee at any dealership. To have that static… anyone who pays that is a sucker.

They are lowering lease payments by inflating residual value and with EV used market in free fall, they are gonna get hit when cars start to come back from the lease in three years. Current discrepancy between residual value and market prices on a three year old models is already $5-6K and it would only grow.

boomhower1820 2025-08-24 18:43

Not in my state but I'd strongly consider it next year when my current lease is up. Currently I'm not satisfied with anything on the market in my price range I want to buy. A 24 month lease will hopefully be enough time to solve that problem.

PotentialCheetah3251 2025-08-24 22:12

I think I’m on the same boat as you. All my friends are talking shtttt about me leasing for the past couple years. There’s nothing on the market I want to full pledge buy

boomhower1820 2025-08-24 23:19

Current lease I put very little down just to try the EV life to see if it worked for me, well it absolutely does but there isn't anything that I can afford I want to buy. There's a few things I do really like but well out of my price range even used as they are very new. There is one I like and can afford but it would absolutely be a compromise and I'd rather not do that. If I can do a little down sub $400 lease I'll absolutely go for it.

watergoesdownhill 2025-08-24 23:55

Teslas are such an amazing value right now. You have to hate Elon a lot, or just be afraid of electric cars not to get one.

cbelliott 2025-08-25 00:10

Exactly this. The value, dollar for dollar, that you can get - especially on the used market - is kind of blowing my mind. I see Model 3s with mileage under 100k and priced under $20k all the time on Marketplace. Model Y options with low mileage in the mid $20k range. I'm not here to tell people what to think but to ignore this brand of vehicle as a possibility especially if you are shopping for one - simply because you have a disdain for Elon is just, I don't know.... I'm assuming that these people who hate Tesla because of Elon don't know the history and the fact that Tesla was made by two other people, Martin and Mark, way back in 2003 and well before Elon came along. 🤷

faksnima 2025-08-25 01:08

I’d argue that used Etrons or Polestar 2s are better buys than the pre 2024 Model 3 and both can be had sub 20. I just bought a 22 Polestar 2 with all packages and 30k miles for $19.5 + TTL after tax credit. I’ve owned a 19 Model 3 Performance and a 23 Model S Plaid. I wouldn’t rule out Polestar or Audi on the used car market. They are exceptional values. They are better in ways and worse in others but likely more refined than comparable Teslas in the same price range.

cbelliott 2025-08-25 02:57

I actually love the Polestar as an option. I've always loved the Volvo brand. I'm not opposed at all to competition in this space and I would not ignore a Hyundai Ioniq or even a Ford Mach-e if the features and price were within what I'm looking for. From what I've seen so far, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, the Polestar options don't offer a comparable total range to what Tesla offers. Even the long range 2022 Polestar 2 are sub 300 miles and actually quite a bit below 300 miles of range compared to a similar year Tesla long range AWD offering. And that's before accounting for range lost from high and low temps, highway speeds for distance, etc. The other area where I still feel like Tesla rules above the other offerings is in its FSD capabilities. I fully believe that Pilot Assist on Polestar is quite capable - but it isn't at the same level. Hell, one of my favorite lust worthy cars (now discontinued in the US) is the Volvo V60 PHEV. A freaking rocket. It uses Pilot Assist tech as well... I just feel like Tesla is so far ahead in this realm that this has to be taken in consideration.

Quin1617 2025-08-25 03:22

Great. Now *why* are all of the cars a million miles away.

Quin1617 2025-08-25 03:31

Logical? Permaban this guy from Reddit.

UnrelaxedKoi 2025-08-25 06:18

It would be cool… but these cars for my ZIP are all located out of state. So $2k for transport. I’m good on that. I would’ve pulled the trigger for a second car. But nah.

notreallysrs 2025-08-25 11:26

Can’t find any cars in Cali surprisingly. I thought Irvine would’ve had a bunch of them. I’m ready to get in a lease but I’m not willing to pay $2k to ship one from New Jersey.

Ok_Responsibility419 2025-08-25 13:43

They’re all in Florida & Maryland tho ugh

Ok_Responsibility419 2025-08-25 13:45

Looks like most of them are in FL actually- click the story link and then in the story click which model you’re interested in. Ton of Model 3s in Kissimmee for example

Ok_Responsibility419 2025-08-25 13:46

Right?!

Ok_Responsibility419 2025-08-25 13:46

Yep bummer

watergoesdownhill 2025-08-25 17:26

Yeah, for me personally, I use FSD 99% of the time, So for me I wouldn't consider any vehicle but a Tesla. If that's not your thing, I agree that these other used EVs are also an incredible value. One thing to note though, even though many of them can use the Supercharger network now, they do charge higher for non-Teslas. Also, a lot of the other EV charger networks are significantly more expensive than superchargers. There's an EVgo by my house that charges 60 cents a kilowatt hour!

cbelliott 2025-08-25 18:00

All great points as well. 👌 There are creative solutions out there for FSD like driving as well. The Comma C3X is amazing for what it offers and it is compatible with some of the current EVs on the market like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, etc. It is not as capable as FSD from Tesla because it relies on only forward facing vision cameras, but for what it can do it is simply amazing. If somebody is just adamant about not getting a Tesla - these kinds of things are what I would consider them to look into because the Comma device allows you to drive for Minutes+ or even Hours, depending on road conditions, without touching the steering wheel at all.

zremaxctu 2025-08-25 21:54

Seems like they just cleared out almost the inventory in cali overnight…

Fake-Penguin 2025-08-25 22:51

Cheap plane tix exist

UnrelaxedKoi 2025-08-25 23:30

I’m sure, but the website makes you pay the $2k so not sure if there’s a way around it.

Im-Not-NormMcdonald 2025-08-26 06:42

How many miles?

philosopherstoned 2025-08-26 06:56

Don't make fun of the dude. He's driven some serious monster machines, like a Corolla hybrid, Prius, and ID.4.

Djrussell 2025-08-26 13:26

Too many 100k

PotentialCheetah3251 2025-08-26 15:19

I wonder if anyone has done this. Looks attractive

PotentialCheetah3251 2025-08-26 15:20

Can you pick it up? Good road trip back home lol

Im-Not-NormMcdonald 2025-08-26 16:02

How much did you pay? Was it cheaper since out of warranty?

SK3_0001 2025-08-26 16:13

For real! I'm in California, what the heck!

deesj408 2025-08-26 23:19

Can’t find anything in California. Everything is too far with a 1 to 2k transport fee smh.

MilkZealousideal7893 2025-08-27 20:12

You don’t pay taxes on leases up front like a purchase in California , that’s paid monthly

cbelliott 2025-08-27 20:31

Incorrect. Do your research. It is state dependent. In Texas, the full sales tax on an automotive lease is typically due upfront at the beginning of the lease. Unlike some other states that tax only the monthly payments, Texas calculates the sales tax based on the vehicle's total value at the time the lease is signed.

MilkZealousideal7893 2025-08-27 20:31

And California is the opposite….. so…..

cbelliott 2025-08-27 20:34

I'm not sure the point you are trying to make.🤷 This lease deal from Tesla is only offered, currently, in Texas and in California. I shared the details for how a lease looks here in Texas and you said the factoring of the money was incorrect, which was incorrect on your part. If you're in California then you are welcome to share what the lease options for used inventory looks like there.

MilkZealousideal7893 2025-08-27 20:36

Then maybe you should have started with “these lease deals are crazy for Texas….”? My post specifically says California…. Are you ok?

DeliciousRich5944 2025-08-28 01:06

How can u find them if you’re a resident?

deah12 2025-08-28 05:39

most of this seems standard, but best to compare leases with everything averaged out

Full_Dance_1641 2025-08-28 21:10

Yup, TX resident here, we pulled the trigger & will be leasing a 2022 Model 3 LR Awd with 4100 miles on it, for $346 a month, 15k miles annual, with an option to buy at ~$20000 after 2 years. Delivery day is tomorrow. Will be our first EV, really excited.

Classic_Arugula_3826 2025-08-29 03:06

chatgpt comment imo

cbelliott 2025-08-29 03:43

Nope, just my own thoughts on the matter. I love EV cars, I'm sad we don't get the cool fuckin shit that other countries do, and I can still say that I'm very impressed by Tesla's FSD which is available here in the US. The new Volvo XC70 that just came out in China, and isn't coming here to the US anytime soon, is also blowing my mind. 100+ miles of EV range on a PHEV is the dream.

Zealousideal_Aside96 2025-08-29 12:50

$2,300 in state fees is not normal in most states

cbelliott 2025-08-29 13:16

"Unlike in many other states, Texas assesses its 6.25% sales tax on the full capitalized cost of the vehicle, not just the monthly payments."

Zealousideal_Aside96 2025-08-29 19:35

Yea the part I’m sayin is relevant is “unlike in many states”

Middletown_SMR 2025-08-29 21:03

Do i pay insurance? Can this be used for uber?

PotentialCheetah3251 2025-09-01 05:39

Can do a review once you get the car? Sorry lol

Full_Dance_1641 2025-09-01 13:51

It's great, we are loving it so far. Looks and drives like new actually. I asked the rep about the low mileage and he said that it was a demo car at an Austin's showroom, hence only 4100 miles after 3 years. This model 3 LR AWD comes with acceleration boost, winter weather package, and the mobile charger as well. We also have a supercharger nearby that we can charge for just $0.16 a kw off-peak hours. This is our first EV & we're already planning to buy it when the lease is up.

SK3_0001 2025-09-01 23:38

very rare to find one to pickup. They have to be in LA

ECOMBands 2025-09-02 20:06

How much did you pay in taxes upfront? I'm seeing a similar monthly payment but when looking at the upfront cost details it seems to be between $3K and $4K. Is that right?

Full_Dance_1641 2025-09-02 22:49

That's correct. Mine is $2500 in addition to the $500 order fee. Total is $3000 due at delivery day.

Western_Brother8631 2025-09-12 10:20

Can you buy out at the end of the lease?

NationGamingChannel 2025-09-12 13:31

Yes. They give you the residual offer in the lease details.

Environmental_Ad_515 2025-09-17 21:58

2k shipping is killing the deal

hbliysoh 2025-11-08 21:33

Which states don't do that?

[deleted] 2025-11-16 18:30

Hey, where did you get this offer? I’m located in Arizona and I’m looking to lease a Tesla.

cbelliott 2025-11-16 19:25

This is on the Tesla website in Texas

Equivalent_Share2366 2025-11-23 04:47

Taxes, title, and license fee aren’t considered the same as a Dow payment since the money isn’t being used toward paying down the cost of the vehicle. That’s the taxes, title and license are literally set by the state… what’re you talking about

nincesticide 2025-11-27 19:50

Try and tell FL that..

enginerd298 2026-01-17 04:40

I noticed that you can no longer lease a CPO vehicle from Tesla, can anyone confirm that?

helloyup255 2026-01-20 15:31

Is this deal dead?
