Dis been out for a minute
15 a month seems outrageous
I pay $2/month and my last (2018) Tesla never needed it replaced
I setup an inspection for mine already, personally I think both are a great value if you drive a lot in areas with road hazards etc.
There is no windshield coverage in my state. I’ve had 3 windshields replaced. Nearly $1500 each. $15 seems reasonable to me.
What did the inspection entail?
you don’t need insurance until you need it.
Looking at it.
My X is $23 for the windshield. $20 for the tires.
The $2 a month price is the point. This is highway robbery prices.
My appt is Friday, they're just going to inspect it according to the tech.
Did they just go up. I got both but $12 for windshield and $16 for wheel & tire
My local service center flunked me because of a tiny star rock chip near the bottom of my windshield that’s never going to spread. Oh well. YMMV
then don’t buy it. i’m perfectly fine with $15/month for what it offers.
I have a 2018 and I’m on my 4th windshield. I have terrible luck with rocks
Not surprised, you could ask for that to be repaired right away if they didn't.
Windshield coverage worth it if you're in a state where it isn't offered by insurance like mine. Tire/wheel coverage not imo. If they split it off from the wheels and it was like $10/m for just the tires I'd bite.
They want to make sure it isn’t already cracked so you can get a $15 windshield

What wheels do you have? With the 21s it seems uber tempting
Yea my wife and I both have MYPs on the Ubertines. The warranty doesn't cover cosmetic damage so it would take something catastrophic to have them actually do anything with the wheels I imagine.
Finally! This will fix those slumping revenue numbers.
Depends on what model you have between S3xYCT
Gotta stop tailgating.
I bought a new car (350z) in 2003 and got 2 chips in the windshield on the 20 mile drive home (had to go out a bit for a good price). The first was from a truck on the freeway, 2 lanes over. I said f that, and decided to take a 2 lane highway instead. Got another one from a car driving the other way. Not my lucky day
Another case of “Reddit is the absolute last to know.”
Rent free 24/7
Kentucky will replace your windshield for free if you have insurance at all. You don't need this here
lucky you, I had two blowouts this past weekend and it was a nightmare, even if I hadn't paid any money
Chips can be repaired for cheap.
Elon’s $30B pay package isn’t going to pay for itself.
If you tailgate, the rock hits the front bumper. Windshield strikes happen when there’s enough space for the rock to climb.
Idk what factors affect these two plans but ops prices are a lot higher than what my app shows me. I have a rwd 2023 m3 and it's showing $12 for windshield and $12 for wheel and tire. $15 and $25 do seem kinda high, even $12 is a little high but I could see it being worth it if you drive a lot.
Extended service agreement has been. When did they add the windshield and wheel/tire ones? I've never seen them before.
Check in your app. I assume op has 19/20" wheels and tires bc my app is only $12 for wheel and tire. I have a 23 m3 with 18" aero wheels. I guess if you have the larger wheels it's probably still more expensive though.
I should have purchased the windshield protection, noticed this morning a crack forming right down the middle :(
It may be because I have a MS. Not sure.
Ah that makes sense. We are both running the Ubertines so that must be why it's $20. I see OPs image is even higher. $12 would be a number I'd consider though.
What does the flunked mean is it forever? 8 hahe an appointment coming up to review the glass and there is a small .25" nick in my window near the rear view mirror mount. While I have no intention to replace the glass anyyime soon I dont want this to void my eligibility
I was told to get my windshield replaced and they will pass me/qualify. I’m not replacing my windshield for a tiny 1/4” rock chip. EDIT: it also has to be genuine Tesla windshield glass to qualify.
Oof. Might skip the service knowing that now. Thanks
**That's an absolute steal.** The $15 plan is for the model S (it's $12 on the 3 and Y). I can't find pricing on the S, but the Y windshield I just replaced was $1500. That puts the break even point is 125 months / 10 years. I'd venture to say that regardless of how rocky your roads are, anybody will need a new windshield in less than 10 years. For me (in Colorado) I'll easily go through one every one or two years. And no, that's not from tailgating. The majority of larger impacts are from the opposing traffic lane. Unless their labor and material costs are substantially lower than what they charge, I honestly don't know how Tesla expects to not lose money on this plan. And for everyone thinking "it's not $1500... with my auto insurance deductible it's only $500", every windshield claim through your auto insurance is reported as a comp claim to LexisNexis CLUE. While these claims can not increase your existing auto premiums (depending on state law), they WILL affect your overall risk assessment. This will affect your premiums when you go shopping for a new policy. I used my chip repair several times with my old insurance company and when I went shopping for a new policy, rates were ridiculous. One company even told me that I was not eligible for coverage and explained that I had 5 comp claims on my history. I had to provide documentation proving all the claims were only glass chip repair before I got realistic quotes.
The terms of service on the plan state that Tesla has the option to repair any damage to existing glass, and then they may cover it. If you have OEM glass, I'd still go in for an inspection.
Get that repaired anyhow.
Speed has a high correlation with rock chips. Having had several I can tell you on my Model 3P, I've been hit with rocks at 65 MPH, 75, and 85 MPH. 65 MPH = bounce, 75 = chip, 85 = crack. I'm going to bet those with more cracks probably were getting hit at higher speed. A trick I learned to avoid cracks is slow down if i'm following behind a semi, or speed up real quick and to give a wide berth while accelerating past a semi or anything that can cause rock chips.
My insurance from State Farm is supposed to include windshield replacement with no deductible annually, if needed. I haven't needed it yet on my 2018 M3 LR RWD
MS windshield is about $1700. Process havent changed much in the past 2-3 years and I’ve had three replaced. They always start small as chips, but given temperature changes, develop into cracks.
I’ve never broken a windshield but I’ve had plenty of nails in tires. I don’t think the tire plan is worthwhile when I already have protection on them through discount tire.
Does Tesla have plans for the glass roof? I live on a golf course.
There’s no insurance plan that’s an “absolute steal”. If there is, then the actuary will soon be fired. I’ve never had my windshield chipped during my 25 years of driving. None of my family members had either.
Wheel and tire protection for $25 a month? What a rip off. I can easily buy tires one time and pay for coverage through discount tire and they're there permanently till I get new tires.
I disagree. I live in Colorado and semi-truck rock kick ups are a lot more common than you think.
What a ripoff
I've replaced my model 3 couple years ago and my wife has a crawling crack in her model y. Costs about $1,000 here. Probably where you live but there's always construction and loose gravel being kicked up on the highway. Windshield great investment depending on your locale. I have tire insurance through Discount Tire which never asks questions. Don't know if this one has stricter stipulations.
I pay less than $15/month to have $0 glass coverage on multiple cars through my regular insurance.
So... Tailgate more? :D (kidding)
Same for me
Sooooo….don’t get it then?
If you want to save your windshield…
You can buy a new tire or two every year for the price of that insurance 😬
I had a flat. Unfortunate circumstance led me to having to get it from Tesla. They told me they must change tires in pairs, so does that mean they'll replace two or do you still need to pay for the other lol
Well, FSD tailgates
Yeah, for people that don't care about wasting money it is convenient. But you can literally get the exact same coverage from a 3rd party for a tiny fraction of that price.
Doesn't anyone have glass coverage on their regular insurance?
How does that even happen?
I’m terrible with tires. I’m getting this today
Request a copy of your CLUE report. If you have made any glass claims, they will likely be on there and could make any new policies more expensive
Could be the average rate of replacement among the whole fleet is lower than I thought. However, I'd expect the areas with lower rates of replacement wont have people sign up, while those with high rates will, which could upend the profitability of the plan for Tesla.
Not sure. I literally never had a single crack in a windshield my entire driving career (15+ years) until I got a Tesla. Then 3 in 4 years
Canada?
That's expensive.
Yep those i70 treks will get you. I managed 3 years before my first chip but it's inevitable.
Does the wheel and tire protection cover normal wear? I drive a lot and when broken down to monthly pricing, my tires cost $53.33 a month. If I only have to pay $25 a month and a $25 deductible every two years for new tires, this is an amazing deal
Oh yes. I was on the leftmost lane of a three lanes highway. There was a truck on the rightmost lane. No other vehicles since it was the middle of the night and I was headed to the airport to pick my brother up. The truck kicked up a rock and it flew over and hit the windshield of my MY. Luckily it was a small crack that just needed filling up. I'm glad it didn't hit the body since it was loud and the rock was pretty big (big enough for me to see it fly towards me). No tailgating at all. Pure bad luck.
My Model 3 took rocks just last week and has an appointment for a new windshield (and that was a week after a rock took out the rear window of my Tesla Roadster from the INSIDE, while I was driving with the top off. Fortunately, the rock missed me on its flight path to the window...
No. A few states require it, but most don’t. A rock chip repair is free from my insurance but a windshield replacement is a comprehensive claim and subject to my comp deductible.
So if you get a flat…how do you use this? You have to bring it to Tesla repair center?
Found it: “If your wheel or tire is damaged, simply schedule a service appointment at your nearest Tesla Service Center or, in case of emergency, contact Roadside Assistance. If the damage is covered under the plan’s Terms and Conditions, we’ll take care of the repairs or replace the tire or wheel as needed.” Are the service centers super busy and you’d have to book a repair weeks out??
Interesting. In the UK windshields are normally always covered by our insurance companies (i know this as I've been unfortunate enough to require 4 windshield replacements on two Tesla Model 3s) - this service for Tesla in the UK would be moot, which probably explains why i don't even see it as an option in the app here. The wheel/tire protection is interesting tho - if i was ever unlikely enough to need 4 replacement tires in a year it would cost be the equivalent of £83 GBP per month, (£250 GBP per tire x 4 = £1,000 GBP / 12) so $25/mo would actually be good value assuming there are no crazy limits on how many times you could use it in a year.
Am I understanding correctly that the price increased $3 and an inspection is required for the Windshield Protection? I subscribed two months ago on my 2025 M3 LR AWD and I’m still subject to $12 renewals. Or is this price for a different vehicle?
My price was for a 2024 MS
Got it. I understood wrong then.
Great deal IMO
All companies are having to make up for lost sales by trying to generate RMR.
How is no one talking about rim and wheel? My model s 21 wheels I’ve popped tires and cracked 7 pairs of rims in the 5 years I’ve owned it living in Michigan with pothole central. Every 7 months it’s something. I would gladly pay $15 if it covered replacement on both monthly
Move to Houston, that’ll change.
Just went through inspection waited 30mins and 10 mins later got this added $12/mo.
I live and travel on a highway which has a rock quarry, $12/month is a steal for me. Even though I know to keep my distance it doesn’t stop the strays that fall off the truck coming towards me in the opposite direction.
What did the inspection entail?
Would’ve been nice to have when I got my performance Highland last summer and cracked my windshield
Service rep told me a service tech will inspect the windshield and lookout for any obvious cracks then I was asked to just wait in customer waiting area. Did not see the inspection process.
Can confirm, lived in the Houston area for 16 years.
