Tesla Charging at the diner

rcnfive | 2025-07-23 23:24 | 194 views

Due to extremely high demand, congestion fees will apply when all 80 stalls are getting full + you're 100% charged + additional 35 min grace period. The Tesla App will notify you. Our goal is to make the Tesla Diner an epic charging experience, for as many customers as possible. Charge & park as long as desired during off-peak times. Only if there is a charging queue do we prioritize letting others charge too. We'll adjust based on food ordering speed and customer feedback.

They really need Optimus to go around unplugging cars and sending them to park elsewhere

JustSomeUsername99 2025-07-23 23:46

They should have Optimus unplug the car when it is done charging and have the car move itself to a parking spot.

psaux_grep 2025-07-23 23:51

Perfect use of «Banish»

Charged there this morning. Super effective and effortless.

defervenkat 2025-07-24 00:08

Last time I rented Tesla to tour LA was a big mistake. Could never find charging space, huge lines, fights and the fees. Decided to never rent a Tesla again. My best use case of Tesla is home charging and back to home.

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 00:21

I drove there yesterday from San Diego county with my son and arrived with 38% from a 100% battery. When I started charging it said an hour to get to 100%, which quickly went by fast by ordering food and waiting, eating in the diner, then waiting in line for popcorn and merch purchases, and going to the restroom. I went back to my car with 1 minute left. It was a fun experience but felt rushed because I kept checking the time. We’ll definitely go back when it’s less busy.

Underwater_Karma 2025-07-24 00:28

Any electric car without home charging seems like signing up for a lifestyle of frustration

catsRawesome123 2025-07-24 00:29

Sounds like they have 35min grace period though?

DevinOlsen 2025-07-24 00:29

last time I was in LA I rented a tesla, and the charging was seamless. never had any issues

MindStalker 2025-07-24 00:31

Are there non charging spots you can move to?

justinlok 2025-07-24 00:46

It's to allow people enough time to finish eating.

PalpitationNo9095 2025-07-24 00:57

By charge and park do they mean no idle fees if it's not busy???

Nowhere else to park easily. Moving the car could be a 15 minutes ordeal trying to find street parking.

moldy912 2025-07-24 01:02

That’s assuming you aren’t by yourself. If you’re by yourself, you can’t save your seat.

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 01:07

I didn't know that yesterday, there was no info about that that I saw. That tweet saying the 35 min grace period was posted today.

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 01:09

I don't think so. I parked right up against the diner. There are 80 chargers total, with most of them being in the back section away from the diner, I didn't see that area. That area doesn't get a view of the diner and the movie screens.

tigole 2025-07-24 01:10

What are congestion fees like at other superchargers now? Do they only apply when the stalls are getting full, or whenever you're done charging even if you're the only car there?

Firetuna2108 2025-07-24 01:12

Exactly what I was thinking

catsRawesome123 2025-07-24 01:19

They might be updating on the fly lol. Def jealous though missed it bt a week, was in LA for vaca mid July

Accomplished_Sky_899 2025-07-24 01:20

Could you see this diner concept working out well (even better) in less congested places? Like large suburban areas?

Alive_Wedding 2025-07-24 01:33

Have Optimus drive the car into a parking spot

LionTigerWings 2025-07-24 02:00

If people need to get up in the middle of their meal, then a diner business model is not going to work.

djentbat 2025-07-24 02:16

There is literally plenty around. Did you even look?

defervenkat 2025-07-24 03:14

Probably but wherever I ended up on the route, was a long queue most of the times. Time crunch on a trip doesn’t help either. Probably better today, this was my 2021 visit I think. What bothered me the most was folks fighting who’s turn it was bcz there were scattered waiting for their. This is still the case today in open areas where you just don’t whose turn it is.

unpluggedcord 2025-07-24 03:22

ITs literally in the name my friend.

hell_a 2025-07-24 04:04

Were you the dude in the news they interviewed who drove up from SD?!

Ok_Transition7785 2025-07-24 04:32

This dude is brilliant.

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 04:48

No, no one interviewed me. I was there yesterday around 12:30pm. Cool to know I wasn't the only one that made the hike from San Diego.

Godrillax 2025-07-24 11:38

I hope Florida gets one. Orlando and Tampa would be perfect

XxYoungGunxX 2025-07-24 12:00

Try reading the rest of his comment….

XxYoungGunxX 2025-07-24 12:01

It seems to vary based on a few posts I’ve come across on Reddit. In my own experience recently it told me the congestion fee may apply but they didn’t since only a few cars were charging out of 8.

jabroni4545 2025-07-24 12:36

All the parking spaces are charging spaces. They are planning on having optimus take your food to your car.

unpluggedcord 2025-07-24 13:11

It’s congestion charge. Meaning only when it’s packed. It’s in the name.

Bambav 2025-07-24 13:34

You drove to hollywood from San Diego for this? … as someone that lives 3 blocks away and hasnt gone to check it out… this sounds nuts! Lol

shaggy99 2025-07-24 14:36

Did you know about, (and would you have used) the option of per-ordering from the app before you got there?

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 15:21

Yes I did know about pre-ordering, in fact when you have the diner as a destination, when you get a few miles away your Tesla has a notification asking you if you want to order ahead before arrival. I chose not to because I knew it would be busy and had no Idea how long the wait to park would be. The diner backs up to a residential neighborhood which makes parking outside of the diner a nightmare. If this was years into the future and the diner wasn't so busy like it is now, I probably would have ordered ahead. For the majority of the drive, my Tesla kept saying 60 out of 80 spots available. It wasn't until I was getting off the 101 freeway that it changed to something more realistic like 8 out of 80 chargers available.

Ljhughes8 2025-07-24 15:22

Same here last Sunday family in the hospital in San Diego came back up Tuesday keep checking . But I do have to go back for the funeral now. So God and bad

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 15:23

My kid and I are on summer break so it was a spontaneous trip. Waking up and not knowing what you're going to do for the day is invigorating!

Bambav 2025-07-24 15:43

That it is! Thanks for not taking the message with ill intent. Realized after that it could have been taken that way but if you live i socal, you know the traffic and the root of the comment. Enjoy the rest of the break! Take him to Palomar and Mount Wilson! And go see the new George Lucas Museum building opening next year. Its a spaceship!

Kdady 2025-07-24 16:12

Went there last night at 9 PM with 20%, took almost forty minutes to just a charger and then the car kept glitching and wouldn’t let me order - managed to cut the entire line with a screenshot of my glitch and order right away and took over an hour for my burger to arrive at which point my car was already full. They will need that grace period for sure if not longer for sure!

Radwick_reddit 2025-07-24 17:29

The LOL at the end saved you haha. It's hard to convey emotion over text, I get it. As for the traffic, I'm originally from L.A. so I knew exactly what were where getting into driving up there.

JustAnotherMortal69 2025-07-24 17:53

I am gonna give it another month before visiting. There's too many people trying to flood in for hype and traveling to see it. Also, all the people here commenting "Optimus should do X" is really funny. They can't do anything seriously useful with Optimus, let alone have it walk around where there are people and vehicles. If it falls on a person or a car, it's gonna just be horrible optics for years.

nitsua_saxet 2025-07-24 22:56

Optimus can barely fill popcorn right now much less unplug a car without damaging the port.

Sentrion 2025-07-24 23:43

Others have posted evidence, though, that the idle rate was $0.00 per minute. Before this new 35-minute policy, it was effectively no idle fees/limits whatsoever.

HEYitsBIGS 2025-07-25 00:58

Hopefully soon!

1startreknerd 2025-07-25 14:58

35 min is very generous

1startreknerd 2025-07-25 14:59

The problem with supercharging is it's sometimes too fast. Maybe a long freeways they should be the fastest, but inside cities they are already too fast.

Flashy-Athlete-7472 2025-07-25 17:21
