I like what [Brian Roemmele said](https://x.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1947446748047413327): > This place captured the quintessential elements of optimistic futurism from the 1950s. > The spirit is a stand against the pessimistic brutalist ethos that had taken hold of our culture. > This is a success on many levels. > Thank you @Tesla and @elonmusk.

foodlovas 2025-07-22 11:54

Do the charge you once your car is charged? Do you have to get up from eating and move it?

Elaborate.

ManyPossession8767 2025-07-22 12:09

This is the type of thing I want Tesla to be focused on. Bringing in the mass consumer and making people excited to be a part of your brand. Nothing else.

abrahamw888 2025-07-22 12:13

Well done Tesla

Fulminareverus 2025-07-22 12:16

Tesla nailed it with this one. Hoping to see these pop up everywhere.

badcatdog42 2025-07-22 12:17

Looks very cool!

DIY_Colorado_Guy 2025-07-22 12:18

The irony of being pessimistic while calling the diner "the epitome of pessimistic."

Equal_Win 2025-07-22 12:18

Tesla: we care about the environment and sustainability. Tesla Diner Menu: we actually don’t care about those things at all.

Aptosauras 2025-07-22 12:22

Did that first lady pick up a random drink from some else's table after they had finished with it?

Harryhodl 2025-07-22 12:25

He can’t, he only knows how to insult

Harryhodl 2025-07-22 12:26

What do u want on there free range organic tofu

jaxjags2100 2025-07-22 12:32

Still somehow a tremendous lack of pull thru superchargers despite my concerns the day the cyber truck was announced. Wasted potential, but then again, now that we know it only travels about 100 miles while towing on a full charge it seems like a waste.

Arpadiam 2025-07-22 12:32

The building and the music, Fallout vibes

[deleted] 2025-07-22 12:33

So what are these supposed to be? Just new takes of showrooms or hubs for charging

Machineslave240 2025-07-22 12:35

Is that Elaine from Seinfeld slapping some guy near the beginning around 15 seconds in?

Chargerzboy 2025-07-22 12:39

Is it just me or does this promo remind you of Fallout?

jfmdavisburg 2025-07-22 12:40

That was weird

Equal_Win 2025-07-22 12:42

Maybe something slightly more forward thinking than a glorified McDonald’s menu. Love all the downvotes… tell me you virtue-signal with your Tesla without straight up saying it.

LutrisAO 2025-07-22 12:49

For someone who bashes on California all the time it’s strange that he would put the diner in California..

Electrical-Falcon-42 2025-07-22 12:51

Cringe

OriginalGoldstandard 2025-07-22 12:52

I’m thinking next stage too. Petrol / gas stations merge more to this set up, not just Tesla owned sites.

AGARAN24 2025-07-22 12:56

Why does it look vintage and modern at the same time. Very cool.

yhsong1116 2025-07-22 13:00

for now, no, they want people to chill. But they will monitor and change that if necessary.

Aerottawa 2025-07-22 13:02

California probably has the best weather out of all the states in the US. In many other states, the rooftop patio would be unusable half of the year.

Harryhodl 2025-07-22 13:03

👏🏼 ⛽️ 💡

punture 2025-07-22 13:03

Definitely.

[deleted] 2025-07-22 13:04

Fallout used similar music, I love that old 50s style music. The Jingle Jangle Jingle song man!

Throwaway2015M4 2025-07-22 13:05

They should put a service shop next door so you have a cool place to hang out while waiting on your CT to get fixed! Love it!

jabroni4545 2025-07-22 13:05

They're trying to bring in customers, not scare them away.

LutrisAO 2025-07-22 13:06

I mean it makes total sense to choose California, especially with how many teslas there are here, just so ironic with Elon’s comments toward the state

[deleted] 2025-07-22 13:07

How do you get to enjoy any of that when charging nowadays takes only 10-12 minutes max AND you have congestion fees hanging over your head if you overstay past what the charge level Tesla has determined you need? This seems much more suited for the olden days of charging, when you'd expect to be there charging for at least 30-40 minutes.

MrAvenger69 2025-07-22 13:11

I can tell the food is going to taste like shit

RedNuii 2025-07-22 13:12

I have dreams about a future where we have diner styled restaurants throughout the galaxy. Everything runs off of clean energy and we can travel around whenever we want.

twinbee 2025-07-22 13:12

But they have a veggie patty option for the burger?

twinbee 2025-07-22 13:19

Don't worry, they have a separate menu, especially tailored for you! **Appetizers**: - **Artisanal Avocado Toast** (*Sourdough bread topped with smashed avocado, sprinkled with organic hemp seeds, and garnished with locally sourced microgreens. Drizzled with cold-pressed olive oil and a hint of pink Himalayan salt for that extra je ne sais quoi.*) - **Fermented Beet and Carrot Slaw** (*A vibrant, gut-friendly medley of house-fermented beets and carrots, tossed in a ginger-tahini dressing. Finished with a sprinkle of activated charcoal because detox is a lifestyle, darling.*) **Main Courses**: - **Deconstructed Sushi Roll** (*An artful arrangement of avocado slices, pickled ginger, cucumber ribbons, and wasabi peas, paired with organic quinoa and a tamari reduction drizzle. Served on a slate board—because plates are so mainstream.*) - **Vegan Mac and Cheese** (*Gluten-free pasta bathed in a velvety cashew cream sauce, elevated with black truffle oil and crowned with crispy kale chips. A few edible gold flakes add that subtle flex you didn’t know you needed.*) **Drinks**: - **Turmeric Latte** (*A golden elixir of organic turmeric and almond milk, spiked with a dash of cayenne for that anti-inflammatory edge. Sweetened with maple syrup and served with a cinnamon stick for sipping in style.* - **Kombucha Spritzer** (*House-brewed kombucha meets sparkling water, fresh mint, and a lime squeeze. Presented in a mason jar with a bamboo straw—because sustainability is the ultimate accessory.*) Enjoy your Vegan Cheesecake and Chia Seed Pudding for afters!

bigpoppa611 2025-07-22 13:41

Yoink. Then other 2 moved knowing she’s a drink stealer

Krunk83 2025-07-22 13:42

Just wait until one of the chargers explodes and burns the whole place down.

Yeah, sure, you can find girls there.

Hate the state politics but love the people who buy the cars there. Not much different than being ashamed to be American because of the politics, but love the people who live there.

Fat people food but no fat people. >.>

Shygar 2025-07-22 14:28

How did they get 80 stalls in that spot

ChunkyThePotato 2025-07-22 14:33

Lmao

ChunkyThePotato 2025-07-22 14:38

I feel like the best way to handle a place like this is to have the base price of the charging and the food be high enough to where the place isn't overly crowded even if people who do come stay long. But yeah, they'll obviously play with pricing to get the effect they want.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-07-22 14:41

There are many more hidden in the back. There are only 20 that are directly adjacent to the diner.

LitePenguins 2025-07-22 15:00

There are no congestion fees on this site: https://i.imgur.com/LXOT0N1.png

cavey00 2025-07-22 15:04

To counter your point, they already have this. Convenience stores are gas stations gig. The big argument ICE vehicle owners always use is they don’t want to wait around refueling, so it’s 5-10 minutes max at a gas station. On top of that, I don’t want to have a meal or watch a movie while huffing gas fumes and exhaust. If they try what you are thinking, please don’t try to incorporate EVs into it. That’s defeating one of the big reasons we want EVs.

[deleted] 2025-07-22 15:04

[removed]

chfp 2025-07-22 15:05

Logistically this doesn't work well. Park, plug in, go inside order food, by the time food is out, the charge is done and you get charged idle fees. If they don't charge for that, lots of chargers will be under-utilized.

StickFigureFan 2025-07-22 15:09

This looks like if the 1950's tried to imagine what a diner in the 2020's would look like.

scienceon 2025-07-22 15:15

I do genuinely like this idea but it seems like opening fast food chains, even with automation, isn’t going to make up for the lost revenue of a thriving auto sales and energy business.

VirtualLife76 2025-07-22 15:15

Just wait until a nuke blows up the place, which is about as likely to happen.

VirtualLife76 2025-07-22 15:16

Too fancy for you? Prefer an overpriced McDonalds?

Electrical-Falcon-42 2025-07-22 15:23

Looks redundant

Koupers 2025-07-22 15:32

I love the idea, although unless it's an automat or something with really quick serve food I imagine they'd also need some faster l2/slower l3 options so that people aren't walking in, ordering, and just before their food gets there having to move their car.

Maleficent_Slide3332 2025-07-22 15:41

Thomb 2025-07-22 15:59

The music and the jovial chatter exuded warmth, but without the music and the piped-in aural vibe, the diner had all the warmth of an operating room.

MrWorldWidee 2025-07-22 16:20

Love this song, but can't seem to find it. - Ai generated, or just so underground Shazam can't find it?

Spud2599 2025-07-22 16:44

Actually, reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Spud2599 2025-07-22 17:11

I didn't see a comfortable chair/bar stool anywhere, and those booths are too squished together. Getting in/out of them would be a pain in the ass.

Spud2599 2025-07-22 17:16

Yeah, other than the couple walking in, nobody was fat. Look how close the booths are to the tables. Ain't no fat people sitting there!

Goddamn_Batman 2025-07-22 17:57

50's diners didn't have fat people and served the same food.

Overtons_Window 2025-07-22 18:42

Environment and sustainability have always been buzzwords for Tesla. Dumping toxic chemicals in the water at illegal levels. Advocating against public transit. It shouldn't be a surprise.

Draygoon2818 2025-07-22 18:51

I'm hoping they don't actually charge idle fees. Otherwise, you would have to get up in the middle of your meal to go unplug and try to find an empty parking spot. People shouldn't see a place like this as a super charger spot. It should be viewed as a destination charger that is a level 3 charger vs a normal level 2 charger. If anything, they could set a 1.5 - 2 hour max time before idle fees start. That should be plenty of time for people to order and eat, but to provide a reason to not just sit there while their car is still taking up a charge spot. They could provide a way for a time limit to start after the bill is paid? Not sure if that could be done, but I would think it could be, though it would require the server to know which charging station the car is at. Maybe when the server is getting the order (or the order is being done by the owner), confirmation of what charge station they are using would need to be seen or input. Perhaps when the server closes the bill out, or prints out the bill, they could tap a button that starts a 30 - 45 min countdown till idle fees start? I don't know. Just thoughts. I think it's a cool idea and wish they were thinking of building one near me.

ZeroWashu 2025-07-22 18:56

Man, Pedro Pascal is everywhere.

IHSFB 2025-07-22 19:28

What about this is optimistic? Looks stark and devoid of color.

Was hoping it would be more like Jack Rabbit Slims.

jcsi 2025-07-22 20:40

Of all the things to throw money at... a diner....

Temporary_Judge4665 2025-07-22 20:40

The video plays out like there's a twist at the end when it shows the bright and shiny futuristic diner surrounded by normal and almost grubby surroundings. Very dystopian.

zoglog 2025-07-22 21:20

we're delayed by a few years but we're almost there!

shayhbaz 2025-07-22 21:21

Crazy you’re gonna work in a place that will eventually wanna swap you out for a robot

twinbee 2025-07-22 21:22

Granted, it could use more colour, especially some greenery on the upstairs section, but it's still a world apart from the usual. I love the subtle ambient lighting everywhere.

zoglog 2025-07-22 21:23

looks like the temu version of this place [https://youtu.be/KrPSQ91Td7U?si=N0uSd\_9a5AxY42k4](https://youtu.be/KrPSQ91Td7U?si=N0uSd_9a5AxY42k4)

loosetingles 2025-07-22 21:35

There are no super charging stations in central LA so regardless of what he thinks about CA this will do well.

bamster32x 2025-07-22 21:54

Is that Tom Delonge at 1:06?

emmettflo 2025-07-22 22:09

Cool diner and I'll be happy to have another supercharger in Hollywood to use (surprisingly hard to find superchargers here in LA). Kind of a pathetic project though for a "tech company" though. All style. Zero substance. Hilarious to think Elon probably wanted robots behind the counter instead of humans but had to settle for an Optimus display case in the hallway instead. Pathetic.

twinbee 2025-07-22 23:10

The ones downstairs are padded.

someToast 2025-07-23 00:34

“A stand against the pessimistic brutalist ethos that charges thirteen bucks for a mediocre hot dog”

ProperSauce 2025-07-23 02:04

Cool but can we get some actually ambient lighting in this bitch?

SonicDethmonkey 2025-07-23 03:24

So cozy. Like it was designed for Optimus more than humans…

shellacr 2025-07-23 04:27

brutalist ethos? like the cybertruck? nothing pessimistic about brutalism

halakar 2025-07-23 05:05

Skettiee 2025-07-23 07:56

This is just weird man

Regular-Watercress22 2025-07-23 10:50

amazing tesla is just amazing. i love elon

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-23 11:50

The cost per kWh is higher than we're charged here in Denmark (at peak), and we pay through the fucking NOSE for electricity. Holy moly. Also I *think* that while there are no idle fees, they're keeping the congestion charge, so you might still have to unplug or move the car if it's really busy. Given how many stalls there are, I doubt that will usually be an issue.

kwiatostan 2025-07-23 12:06

Fast food absolutely changed alot . Mcd 70 years ago is not the same today's Mcds burger

DstewartEE 2025-07-23 13:03

This would be more compelling if Elon hadn’t gone insane.

Aurhorah 2025-07-23 13:30

Looks like ‘Back to the Future’

Iamcheez 2025-07-23 13:31

I must say, this is a really cool idea and I hope this comes to Europe too!

Niwi_ 2025-07-23 14:28

This feels like what Fallout 4 universe looked like before the bombs

SchalaZeal01 2025-07-23 16:23

> The cost per kWh is higher than we're charged here in Denmark (at peak), and we pay through the fucking NOSE for electricity. Holy moly. California has the highest electricity rate in all of US.

absloan12 2025-07-23 21:11

With the Tesla Brand i feel certain thag it only looks nice from a glance but I'll it'll be hastily produced, poorly assembled, and easily broken. Poor Tesla. I used to hold such hope for it, now we use it as a meme to mean "the local village idiot."

absloan12 2025-07-23 21:17

Preach! Musks ambitions used to be presented as a means to better the planet, then after he went mask off in 2015, his true agenda of benefitting only his wallet became apparent. So sad to see our planet crumble and people who once took pride in trying to help heal it, drooling over the idea of a futuristic looking diner with chargers at them.... wake up folks. The veils been lifted and we're thrilled because a fallout style video is posted promising that as your future. The irony is palpable.

absloan12 2025-07-23 21:22

Idk dawg, reads like a shill to me. Who tf thanks a company for making yet another fast food garbage dump/ eye sore but a shill?

absloan12 2025-07-23 21:27

This sub's 75% bots and shills, my dude. Your take is 100% accurate but that doesn't stop the downvotes from flooding in.  Take it with pride in a sub like this. This video is fallout-esque because a dead planet is still the direction we are heading in. Musk's latest ambitions aren't made with us in mind like he used to pretend. It's all turning things we thought was only suited for dystopian societies, into a meta reality. The shills are part of the package.

Ambitious_Grass_3302 2025-07-24 03:05

forever by little dippers

MrWorldWidee 2025-07-24 03:10

No that’s not it

Ambitious_Grass_3302 2025-07-24 03:24

my bad

ElectricBimmer 2025-07-24 04:08

Absolutely love this. My lower back is hurting now though after just looking at those bar stools. I know everyone’s back will be killing them after 30 seconds of sitting in them.

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-24 07:38

That’s crazy. Is it tax or poor planning or both? Arizona is next door and their average cost is 63% lower.

Grand-Glove-9985 2025-07-24 09:45

Hey, Musk! I will put a live stream of Earth on one of the satellites and stream it live on the Diner.

necbone 2025-07-24 12:35

Burn it down.

omnipothead 2025-07-25 06:39

Yeah, let them get into the fastfood business with a corny future themed diner instead of focussing on creating new car models people actually want to buy.

Flashy-Athlete-7472 2025-07-25 17:38

Epic Bacon At The Tesla Diner

TesticularButtBruise 2025-07-26 00:02

This is pure Black Mirror. Horrible. Simple stuff like she picked up a random cup, then went to the bar on another floor and put it down then sat there like a robot. Fallout. Weird.

Dneubauer09 2025-07-26 13:37

So Tesla DOES know how to make commercials...

futfacker 2025-07-26 19:21

What is a room full of smug influencers?

Icy-Library7275 2025-10-26 21:10

Where’s the irony that they were watching 2001 a space odyssey where the A.I. in the movie (HAL 9000) decides the wipe out the crew to fulfill “the mission” and in the video an Optimus robot is being admired through glass lol.
