Tesla Diner in Hollywood is OPEN!

TechRidr | 2025-07-22 03:42 | 926 views

Finally, I was able to get in and charge at the grand opening. I didn't go in as the wait was over an hour. But I live blocks away so I'll report back about the food later. I got free ice cream from a girl on skates. Can't beat that! It looks better than expected now that I see it open. Maybe this is the start of a trend? We'll see

But how’s the food?

Yeah but how’s the food?

MaterialInevitable83 2025-07-22 03:53

They did not like the joke

Remarkable_Fuel9885 2025-07-22 03:56

Eat the description.

borekk 2025-07-22 03:59

How does the audio from the movie feed into the car? FM?

TechRidr 2025-07-22 04:00

I never tried. I just got out and walked around

4kVHS 2025-07-22 04:02

Let’s say your car only needs 30 mins to charge but you go in for food and it takes an hour. I assume there would be idle feels like normal superchargers or is it different at this location?

iamkeerock 2025-07-22 04:09

Looks like the second pilot of the original Star Trek series was playing, “Where no man has gone before”

clymin 2025-07-22 04:17

Is there actually 80 charging stalls? Driving past it on Santa Monica it looks like way less than 80

TechRidr 2025-07-22 04:17

I didn't stay long enough to find out, but they have so many stalls, I'd bet there will be a long grace period.

TechRidr 2025-07-22 04:18

They're just a bunch of short clips of different things

InterviewAdmirable85 2025-07-22 04:19

Was Optimus there?

TechRidr 2025-07-22 04:20

You have to see an aerial shot. There are two connected properties, connected at the corners. Lots of stalls!

TechRidr 2025-07-22 04:22

Not outside, but apparently, inside.

SparkySpecter 2025-07-22 04:22

Serving popcorn.

I can smell this photo

6100315 2025-07-22 04:23

I want to check this place out! I wonder how people in the non tesla community view this.

mythorus 2025-07-22 04:30

It’s just a dinner…

TechRidr 2025-07-22 04:31

"this photo"? There are 9 photos

VirtualLife76 2025-07-22 04:31

Crazy looking building, but nice to have something unique.

Deadies 2025-07-22 04:31

That's unfortunate.

liveslowdieyoung 2025-07-22 04:31

First one, it’s either onions or the stench of Tesla bro.

UCanDoNEthing4_30sec 2025-07-22 04:32

Even a Kia Soul joined in on the fun!

latca 2025-07-22 04:37

Kim Java sighting! I’m curious about the logistics of being able to charge and eat there. I’m guessing if it is packed you would use the new charger queuing system? Do they bring the food to you like a 50’s car hop restaurant?

shocontinental 2025-07-22 04:40

32 at the diner, 48 in the solar covered lot behind it.

opinions_dont_matter 2025-07-22 04:45

The guy above sums it up: “Let’s say your car only needs 30 mins to charge but you go in for food and it takes an hour. I assume there would be idle feels like normal superchargers or is it different at this location?” This feels like a thing that won’t ever pan out for them, rest stops already exist on major highways across the US and Europe.

80 charging stalls, im sure there is a decent grace period

GhostriderFlyBy 2025-07-22 05:12

I met the chef putting this place together. Incredibly cool guy! Would eat here for that alone.

TechRidr 2025-07-22 05:23

They have car hops on skates. Also, there are 80 stalls, so I doubt there will be an issue finding a charging location on a regular day. Especially since this is not near any freeway or highway. Plenty of stalls.

RunningDude90 2025-07-22 05:41

There were women there!

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-22 05:55

Apparently there are no idle fees at this location but they’re keeping congestion charges turned on. So no fees as long as it’s not full. If it is, you’ll have to unplug at 80%. The concept involves ordering en route via the Tesla touch screen so at some point, food will be ready on arrival and it’s possible that 5-80% is enough time to eat for most people. Otherwise I don’t think unplugging or moving the car is such a big deal given it’s just outside the restaurant.

And they serve desert.

so_chad 2025-07-22 07:03

Ordering via the Tesla touch screen? That’s SO cool!

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-22 07:53

Ya, right? And if it works well, I’d love for a similar concept to roll out for other restaurants like McDonald’s. It would he awesome on road trips for our food to be ready when we arrive.

so_chad 2025-07-22 07:57

Can’t wait to order In-N-Out from my Tesla!

Responsible-Camel-33 2025-07-22 07:58

How many chargers are in the facility?

Underwater_Grilling 2025-07-22 10:38

https://youtu.be/jYU9Q_9HV-c?t=2327 This guy says a menu pops up in the Tesla software to interface with the diner. It provides audio.

It was overcast yesterday. Quite pleasant, sun came out in the later afternoon. Perfect day

dumbledayum 2025-07-22 11:55

kelement 2025-07-22 12:34

How crowded is the diner in the wee hours of the morning?

chiguy 2025-07-22 12:49

Like using the McD mobile app ordering that already exists for 4 years?

TechRidr 2025-07-22 13:35

No, it's in the middle of Hollywood. No highway/freeway near it

Mr_Kitty_Cat 2025-07-22 13:47

Seems like a testing ground for Optimus

GTOdriver04 2025-07-22 14:03

This looks really cool. I don’t own a Tesla but I 100% would check it out.

Beep beep

mymicrowave 2025-07-22 15:01

Terrible vibes ONLY

moldy912 2025-07-22 15:04

Let’s say you park at a supercharger but you mainly want to try the food. You order and your car gets to 80%, so you want to unplug and move your car….but the lot is full, yet your food is still being made. Wtf are you supposed to do? I think they need to give more generous idle allowances if there is a cobranded restaurant on the property. This could all be temporary too, until the hype dies down and the lot empties out.

moldy912 2025-07-22 15:05

Where are you going to move the car in that parking lot?

MrCalifornia 2025-07-22 15:31

Or, you know, the drive thru which has existed for decades and they make your food within like 60 seconds of you ordering and then you just keep on driving while you eat.

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-22 15:33

[The parking lot extends to the left and includes the area with solar panels.](https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Tesla_diner_jpg_289637bce8.webp)

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-22 15:36

I’ve never seen it pop up on my Tesla while I’m driving. How do I make it do that?

invest__t 2025-07-22 15:42

It’s crazy how shitty LA looks overall lol

EitherCharacter9342 2025-07-22 15:50

80

chiguy 2025-07-22 16:22

I meant the literal app on your phone

chiguy 2025-07-22 16:24

App is faster and more accurate. You can order while you wait in drive thru line or on the way there or before leaving. No need to pay at the window either.

MrCalifornia 2025-07-22 16:52

Man, I'll give it to you. You have optimized your life a lot better than me if you are feeling time savings using an app to order Mickey D's.

AssBlaster887 2025-07-22 16:53

I guess Trump diner is next 🤡

jt121 2025-07-22 17:06

Personally, it's more about making sure I get exactly what I want and not having someone else enter what they think they hear. Also, the app for McD's (and several other fast food/quick service restaurants) have deals you can't get without ordering in the app. I get what you're saying, but it saves me time and it saves them time, and they get my order correct (nearly) every time when I order through the app, as opposed to about half the time when I order at the drive through.

MrCalifornia 2025-07-22 17:25

I'm just a #1 with a coke guy. Makes it easy.

Responsible-Camel-33 2025-07-22 17:37

Oh wow.

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-22 17:43

Gotcha. No the concept is for the menu to pop up *on the Tesla display* so you don’t have to fiddle with your phone while driving. In many countries you’ll get a hefty fine for that.

chiguy 2025-07-22 18:12

I imagine there will be fines for ordering a customized Big Mac via a giant version of mobile phones that are embedded in the dash, too. It won’t matter if you’re in the McD parking lot or your garage before you leave. My point being a McD app for the Tesla is solving a problem that doesn’t exist and is seemingly more cumbersome than simply using the existing mobile app.

chiguy 2025-07-22 18:16

I have a kid who doesn’t like the regular cheeseburger so it’s way easier to have it saved and click once to add it to the order rather than explain it every time. And more convenient to order and pay via app in the drive thru line and say a 4 digit code than sit in line then give an order for 4 people then also pay at the next window. Not much different than scheduling an appointment online vs having to call and schedule.

rpkusuma 2025-07-22 18:21

Is it open 24/7? My Uber bladder needs to know when I'm working late night shifts

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-22 18:34

Not in California :) California Vehicle Code § 23123.5(f) exempts “manufacturer‑installed systems that are embedded in the vehicle.” That means interacting with a built-in touchscreen interface (like Tesla’s) is not considered operating a handheld device, which is strictly prohibited while driving. This allows people to order things without losing their licenses. That seems pretty neat. It sounds like you don’t mind breaking the law using your phone while you drive.

MrCalifornia 2025-07-22 18:50

Different styles for different people I guess. I've got two picky eaters but I just make them yell their weird orders out at the drive thru. Otherwise they are yelling them at me and then I have to do the work of typing it into the app. 😂 Might as well put that on the non-robot employee of McDonald's.

zenmagnets 2025-07-22 19:59

Wish they had some options for those with gluten allergies! Can't bring my fam otherwise.

Yes

JustAKidFromBrooklyn 2025-07-22 21:27

I think it looks great! Next time I'm in LA, I'll check it out, even if I don't have my car with me. Hoping one pops up around where I live!

Lost-in-EDH 2025-07-22 21:42

unplug

OkSafe1182 2025-07-22 22:49

This area in LA has a dearth of Tesla Superchargers, considering the population density and time/traffic issue.

OkSafe1182 2025-07-22 22:53

it just opened two days ago so no patterns yet. Based on its location, the Diner may be popular since there are a lot of bars and clubs in the area. I haven’t gone yet but I’m curious about parking for people not charging that want to go the diner. There is a charging station in West Hollywood that is busy at all hours, especially late night on the weekends.

OkSafe1182 2025-07-22 23:06

Epic Bacon, Wagu Beef Chili, Market Salad, Fries, Cheese Fries, Chili Cheese Fries, Hash Brown Bites. Seven (or 5 depending on how you count) items are Gluten free when the whole menu is only about 25 food items. Seems like a good ratio You could also order most of the sandwiches or hot dog without a bun.

Annual_Wear5195 2025-07-23 02:14

Lmao. Three of your seven are just variations of "fries" and a fourth is just fried potato in a different format. A fifth one is the laughable option that all places have for those with dietary requirements (the salad). > You could order most of the sandwiches or hot dog without a bun You can also order them without a patty, that doesn't make it a reasonable option.

TechRidr 2025-07-23 05:59

24/7 indeed

KlassTruggle 2025-07-23 06:19

Is it segregated? /s

As a Tesla owner I'd say you've already experienced the "In-N-Out". Keep enjoying that feeling,

so_chad 2025-07-23 11:46

As a Tesla owner, I don’t have a clue what you just said

redditmobbo 2025-07-23 12:15

elon, i want one like this in Vienna

Additional_Ad4116 2025-07-23 13:00

sweeet did you try the epic bacon?

Fluxcapacitron 2025-07-23 17:56

I’ll wait till the hype dies down, those crowds are a bit too crazy for me haha

rjdevereux 2025-07-23 19:59

Is this something that Tesla wants to own and scale in the long term, or is this just a one-off to demonstrate the concept? Running restaurants seems like a distraction for them.

TechRidr 2025-07-23 21:40

Seems like they're proving the concept but will likely expand later. As for a distraction, running the diner is minimal effort for the advertising, and "cool" factor they bring to charging. I really doubt they will actually "scale," but will likely stick to a few densely populated areas like where this one is.

WPTresponse 2025-07-24 02:34

it looks like a google map marker.

Kontrafantastisk 2025-07-24 17:23

Pretty sure the top-selling item is a nothing burger. Possibly with fries.

MGoAzul 2025-07-24 19:08

Tesla is a restaurant company. Stocks go up

endofsight 2025-07-24 22:05

You can order from their app. People do that all the time.

TechRidr 2025-07-24 23:19

One diner does not turn it into a restaurant company

Sufficient_Ad3790 2025-07-25 04:23

You’re right, it’s marketing.

Perfect_Cost_8847 2025-07-25 06:31

It doesn’t integrate into the Tesla screen and where I live it’s not legal to use one’s phone while driving. I think it’s way more convenient to use the Tesla screen.

thequeensegg 2025-07-25 08:06

What a surprise: a Tesla driver with no taste!

thequeensegg 2025-07-25 08:08

They're barely even a car company. Most of their money comes from selling carbon credits to other non-EV car companies

Taziar43 2025-07-25 10:35

Roughly 50% of all electric vehicles in the US are Teslas.

invest__t 2025-07-25 11:44

What color is your hair

thequeensegg 2025-07-25 15:17

And even with the deck stacked for them, they can barely run a car company. Teslas have the highest rate of fatalities of any car on the road and the company makes most of its money from selling EV credits to polluters

TechRidr 2025-07-25 20:36

How do you figure? They pulled in **$3.87 billion in the last quarter in gross profit.** Only **$435 million was** from regulatory credits. You do know this is publicly traded company and all the information is out there right?

Comfortable-Ad8876 2025-07-25 20:54

Wow great place to get all the local losers together lol

thequeensegg 2025-07-25 21:04

Sounds like you dont have your numbers right because the officially reported amount they made from carbon credits last year is **$2.76 billion**. So if their gross profit is $3.87 billion, that means they've made 2/3s of their money from selling carbon credits and not from selling their cars. https://futurism.com/tesla-sales-carbon-credits-europe

TechRidr 2025-07-25 22:06

Wait, so now you're using the total gross of last quarter against the carbon credits of last year? You must be in politics. Last year total gross profits were $17.45 billion. Last quarter was $3.87 billion. Can you make the distinction? This is 3rd grade math my friend.

thequeensegg 2025-07-25 22:12

Also, if you think millions & billions are "third grade math" then that explains a lot--you probably didn't go to school.

thequeensegg 2025-07-25 22:17

**Also also** here's some "third grade math" for you: Tesla didn't even sell 1 million cars last year **or the year before**.

AnteaterNo8564 2025-07-26 04:01

Which movies are playing? Is it sci fi and stoner movies mostly?

[deleted] 2025-07-26 12:33

Liberals will mess this up

TechRidr 2025-07-26 13:15

Our entire area here is liberal (about 87% Democrat) including the crowds you see. They're the main customer and all seemingly happy.

Skier94 2025-07-26 14:52

Maybe license the name if it’s financially successful?

[deleted] 2025-07-26 16:50

Interesting. Wonder why it’s liberals who are keying teslas and saying Elon is racist.
