Better yet, custom mode can allow you to set the seconds between wiper cycles. From 1s to 7s or something. Can easily adjust the seconds as needed

I will be vocal every time I can about this: current auto setting sucks balls and my wipers turn on for shadows. I turn off auto, then use autopilot and they're back to auto, again. Just a handful of small things about my car that infuriate me, but love the rest of it genuinely.

Such easy and small thing to fix, yet won't be fixed like ever

Volkswagen has an incredible auto wiper that just works perfectly. Tesla should take note

Are you suggesting this in hopes Tesla is going to see this or are you going to try to go in and add this yourself

This isn’t our experience. My wife’s VW Golf had similarly poor auto sensing wipers (not consistently working in rain or swiping when dry). Lucklily her VW had the option to disable auto wipers which we did several years ago.

OP is hoping a Tesla windshield wiper expert will chime in on this and possibly show us how to hack the car's code so that everyone can set it how they want.

Doesn’t have to be custom; it can be automatic, with adjustable sensitivity or interval, and again, the interval can be adjusted like in any other car currently on the market.

What year? My 2021 GTI auto is great. Also had a 2015 GTI and the auto is less impressive

My car right before this was a 2016 Tiguan. The auto wipers were PERFECT.

22 year old BMW has amazing auto wipers, I'd be surprised if most other cars don't. I hope they just give up and install a risk sensor

My suggestion would be to make the whole wiper control an "analog" interval control (like a volume control) so you can basically select any speed from one wipe a minute to wipe as fast as the wiper arms will go.
To be more complete you can put "detents" for the existing I II III IIII positions with button clicks to go to the next detent, but a slow wheel roll allows for intervals in between them.

I would love a double-click of the wiper-button to toggle between Auto and Off.

Tesla’s auto wipers before autopilot worked great. We still have our 2013 and its auto wipers blow our 2023 out of the water. A shame they nixed the infrared sensor everyone else (and the 2013 Tesla) uses.

Back to the 90s then, instead of fixing the thing every other single car manages to get to work. Many of which if not most, which also allow setting the sensitivity of the auto, or agjust it automatically to your preference based on how often you use the button.

yea this is a terrible look, they are trying to sell cars that drive themselves- a lot of trust for even early adopters of tesla and autopilot, but they can't get the rain sensor wipers to work right?

"Rain sensor wipers", just to clarify for people who do not know, there is no rain sensor. They cost pennies at the scale car manufacturers use them, everyone uses them and they work great, but Tesla decided "we have a camera, lets use that and train it to recognize rain". So it is camera based wipers, and it sucks.

Just drive at night with multiple bugs, it detects small bug splatters as rain, turns on wipers, smears them all over the windshield in front of camera, increases the wiper speed because it thinks there is now heavy rain, windshield is covered in bug shit and you get the message autopilot will deactivate because camera view is blocked. Technology!

LOL I forgot, that did happen to me a few weeks ago. Not quite as badly as you described but they did turn on hitting a couple bugs. So infuriating. I just wish they'd improve it half as much as they improved auto-brights.

It would be nice if engaging FSD didn't also put the wipers in Auto mode. Manual wiper delay should work like the the audio volume dial. Not just off, 1, 2, 3, 4, Auto.
