I don’t want to take credit for this leak, so thanks to this person https://x.com/greentheonly/status/1939887217536557268?s=46&t=Mj3Wz0ulX1Eu1u4P8DTbQg But what I can confirm from the post is that it’s going to be available for Hardware 3, since it uses the cloud system and not the car’s internal processing power, which is great news. It might seem like it’s coming to Intel-based systems as well, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. Hopefully it will, because it would be a great addition.

BrendoBoy17 2025-07-01 04:38

I am admittedly stoked for it

tinfoil209 2025-07-01 04:41

HW3 with Intel or only AMD?

ConfidentImage4266 2025-07-01 04:47

There’s no confirmation yet. It’s most likely going to be AMD rather than Intel, but since it’s using the cloud, there might still be a possibility for Intel. Let’s cross our fingers and hope everyone gets included in that update.

sicing 2025-07-01 04:55

It's meant to replace the existing voice assistant? So to control the car, navigate etc? I don't know if thats compelling enough to get people to pay for Premium.

GucciTokes 2025-07-01 05:02

🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I love my Tesla, but I really don’t need my car going on about White Genocide. Edit - since the joke seemed to go right over everyone’s head. Grok was [randomly inserting comments about white geocode into completely unrelated conversations.](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/may/14/elon-musk-grok-white-genocide#img-1)

Jeez dude. Give it rest already.

DrPotato231 2025-07-01 05:13

No way to know. The screenshots are from AMD, likely no difference if it’s HW3 or HW4. I’d put my money on not on HW3, at least for a hot minute.

Surprisingly GROK is pretty “woke” as conservatives call it, if you go on insta there’s an entire profile called GrokvsMAGA, super funny I defs suggest watching some of their reels. Anyways depending on what Elon does to the algo GROK seems ok. I won’t have it in mine but it’s ok🤷

Mattynapss 2025-07-01 05:23

Oh no, $9 a month on a $35,000+ car is sooooo expensive 😂😂 The cost of the subscription to have internet in your car is considerably cheap. Most phone plans are $40 a month and up.

[deleted] 2025-07-01 05:24

That would mean that it will actually understand what you are saying, for a change. AI is extremely good at voice recognition. Current voice commands are utterly and completely useless, except for comedic purposes.

MagicHoops3 2025-07-01 05:37

They did?

rup3t 2025-07-01 05:38

ChuqTas 2025-07-01 05:42

I’ve only ever seen/used Grok via X, is that enough for “a Grok account”?

InvestigatorOk9354 2025-07-01 05:47

A license is $8/mo for Grok. There's a free tier but it is throttled and has query limits. If you're already paying for Telsa premium connectivity I'd like to think that'd grant you the premium tier of Grok but I am not holding my breath.

captaindigbob 2025-07-01 05:52

I imagine you'd have a pretty hard time hitting the free rate limits using the voice assistant in your car

CashOverAss 2025-07-01 06:30

What is exciting about it?...

aft3rthought 2025-07-01 06:35

Since they’re both toggles, you can enable NSFW and Kids mode at the same time!

gre-0021 2025-07-01 06:39

I’m more hoping B-pillar camera recording comes to HW3, I see it in the updates pane in the side there, but obviously we’re much past 2025.14.1 so who knows.

olagon 2025-07-01 06:43

ChatGPT in voice chat mode is good enough. You can chat with it to learn all kinds of things on a drive. The mute button on the steering wheel is key. Mute while Chat is talking so it does not think you are interrupting with every loud sound.

woalk 2025-07-01 07:08

AI doesn’t do any voice recognition at all. What AI does is take the text from the voice recognition and read it as input, that’s the part where it’s better than a simple algorithm that checks for specific sentences.

strawboard 2025-07-01 07:10

An actually useful voice assistant that is far more capable than the one there now. That can control your car as well as provide information as useful as ChatGPT. Stoked.

_WyL 2025-07-01 07:28

Enable...NSFW?

PotatoesAndChill 2025-07-01 07:38

I don't even care if it can't control the car. I just wanna be able to ask it stuff while driving.

energywhiz123 2025-07-01 08:15

You can just call *1-800-CHATGPT* if that's all you are after. Have it as a contact favorite and use it pretty regularly, but am looking forward to having the ability to control the car/navigation.

PotatoesAndChill 2025-07-01 08:15

I think this is correct. Grok itself (or any LLM for that matter) doesn't do speech-to-text, so to improve Tesla's voice command feature the whole thing would have to be reworked into a brand new AI-based end-to-end system.

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2025-07-01 08:16

I won’t be paying for that. I already have two Tesla subscriptions (Premium connectivity & FSD). I don’t need a third.

ChuqTas 2025-07-01 08:24

Yeah I’d hope so too. If not I won’t bother. I would say they want to boost their user count more than I want Grok.

[deleted] 2025-07-01 08:32

[deleted]

AquaRegia 2025-07-01 08:48

Is it just a poor UI, or can you enable both NSFW and Kids Mode at the same time?

djkinetic 2025-07-01 09:38

If all the processing is done in the cloud then there 0 reason intel hw3 cards shouldn’t get this.. but with how updates and features have gone the last yr and change I wouldn’t expect it.

sorenpd 2025-07-01 10:04

Fix the driving assistance systems and the wipers first, then add what ever shitty AI.. I am at a point where I dont want to use the auto pilot because it simply phantom breaks constantly.

Nimblebimble123 2025-07-01 10:25

Can you explain this a little more? I'd love to be able to press a button to have the chat feature of Chat GPT work without doing it on my phone. I'd pay a lot of money to have that as the default right button instead of the current voice command.

supermam32 2025-07-01 10:50

Hopefully so it plays music by who I say instead of just creating a radio station based on the artist that plays random songs by random artists.

JetAmoeba 2025-07-01 11:17

Facts do tend to lean left

Itchy_Platypus4085 2025-07-01 11:20

Well I actually would use it. At least if it functions correctly. The voice commands in the car are pretty limited. Open buttole is good though

PotatoesAndChill 2025-07-01 11:56

Does it work with foreign words and place names? The biggest issue I have with Tesla voice control here in UAE is that the place names are often non-English, so I say something like "ras al khaimah" and it will interpret it as "ross alchemy" and lead to nowhere.

tookule4skool 2025-07-01 11:58

I think what he was meaning to say was that you can say two very similar commands and it won’t recognize one but will recognize the other because at the moment it’s pretty particular to what it accepts vs understanding that two different ways to say the same thing should execute the same command.

whitemiketyson 2025-07-01 12:03

Replacing maps data with unreliable AI is reason enough for me to pay to keep it the way it is

tookule4skool 2025-07-01 12:05

I’ve weirdly never tried this but sounds interesting

SeveralViolins 2025-07-01 12:05

Sorry what scientific study are you citing on gender expression here?

MyMonte87 2025-07-01 12:07

I'll add to this: After trying out all the AI assistance, i settled on Grok due to its ability to carry on conversations in the most natural way. It also remembers previous topics, and is good at reminding you, or provide information in context of your previous questions. I once even put the Therapist setting on, went for a long walk and had a deep conversation about how to talk to my stubborn wife. It was odd at first, but to the outside world, it looked like i was just talking on the phone via my ear buds.

MyMonte87 2025-07-01 12:09

i truly can't believe how useless Siri has become...like c'mon really?!

CFXSquadYT 2025-07-01 12:09

Model s 2015 mcu2 also?

SnooTomatoes1191 2025-07-01 12:09

Hope you're not listening to Grok unhinged when the cop pulls you over. That could end poorly.

Fireproofspider 2025-07-01 12:12

AI no longer refers to just the LLM. It refers to the set of software packaged as one for consumer or professional use.

wtfredditacct 2025-07-01 12:28

We've had different experiences. Other than being in the lane that's backed up instead of the empty lane right next to it, I haven't had any real issues.

GrandEquivalent8828 2025-07-01 12:31

Shouldn't matter since it's cloud, servers driven.

moldy912 2025-07-01 12:43

It doesn’t need to. What the other person is saying is that basic speech to text will interpret your speech, including mistakes, stammers, hesitations, etc. then the AI is trained to understand what you are actually intending to do. Alexa+ will do the exact same thing. That’s why they’re good, because they understand the whole context if pieces are missing or wrong. You can test this with text only too, just ask ChatGPT something with a bunch of typos and it will likely still respond as expected.

moldy912 2025-07-01 12:46

Save that number as ChatGPT in your contacts. In your Tesla, say “call ChatGPT” then when it answers, ask your question. After it responds, hang up or ask another.

As someone who recently dropped Premium in favor of just using other free existing smartphone options for the features it provided... It's not compelling.

[deleted] 2025-07-01 13:09

Oof yeah. I’d be curious to see about that to be honest.

BoatZnHoes 2025-07-01 13:09

I think the point of this is that grok will control the car

[deleted] 2025-07-01 13:13

Hm I actually haven’t experienced. The wipers also have gotten better for me, not sure if that’s just luck or what.

[deleted] 2025-07-01 13:17

So why do I want this?

yetiflask 2025-07-01 13:32

This comment literally makes no sense.

yetiflask 2025-07-01 13:32

It never did, I don't know what he's smoking. AI as a word has been around since decades before LLM became a thing.

PotatoesAndChill 2025-07-01 13:43

But if I ask to navigate to an unusual/foreign place name and the basic STT interprets it as some random crap, how is any LLM meant to deduce anything out of that?

Former_Disk1083 2025-07-01 13:49

Not really, no. Voice to text is already AI, it's all machine learning. Some use more modern models, some still use HMM, in the end, it's all ML, which is all AI. They just need to use some ML to convert the words to text, then push to grok. Wouldn't require retraining or doing anything crazy, they just have to pick the AI to convert to text that Grok likes best. The issue is more so you have to attach grok outputs to the car, which does need redevlopment, I'm guessing Grok for tesla's would be independent, retraining grok could change the outputs for the car which would be bad. We will see how its implemented soon-ish, maybe.

Austinswill 2025-07-01 13:50

My wife was perfectly happy with her HW3 Mx... until I got a HW3 MSP and the blind spot cameras with turn signal come up on the eInstrument cluster.... She wants blind spot cameras so bad. I wish they would do stuff like that. I fail to see why her car cant have ASS as well.

Austinswill 2025-07-01 13:53

Hey, what HW and SW are you running? I am on HW3 and 12.6 on two cars and neither of them phantom brake at all. Have you considered you may have something going on with your car? Have you tried all the re-calibrations? Have you taken it to Tesla for examination to see if there is any hardware issues?

Dymix 2025-07-01 13:57

It would probably be pre-prompted with something like: Take any navigational input and format it to the navigation system in the following format: {format}

iDerp69 2025-07-01 14:09

What a reddit thing to say

Magnus_Tesshu 2025-07-01 14:10

They said > There is a Voice To Text system, and a text-only large language model. The voice to text system is the same (source? not confirmed but likely due to cost) but the LLM can handle the text from the VTT much more effectively than looking for specific keywords (eg, "I'm Cold")

AgonizingFury 2025-07-01 14:43

Mine are mostly fixed, except for one overpass that seems to make them activate every single time. Other than that overpass, I might get one random unneeded wipe per week.

theloudestlion 2025-07-01 14:54

I use it daily for navigation and it works just fine.

FrostyD7 2025-07-01 15:19

Wipers are OK, I just wish it had a dial on the stalk to control them like other automakers. Weak auto wipers and inconvenient manual controls make for a bad combo.

postitnote 2025-07-01 15:21

This in not true in general. Multimodal models like Gemini or chatgpt natively handles audio (including voice). It tokenizes the audio in the same way it tokenizes text, and it is fed into the model to generate tokens that are detokenized into audio. I don't know if grok has a multimodal model though, but that seems to be the natural progression for our AI systems.

Top_Presentation7467 2025-07-01 15:29

I’ll be fucking pissed if it doesn’t come to intel.

AcanthocephalaTime59 2025-07-01 15:33

Part of premium connectivity without price hike 🤞

floridianfisher 2025-07-01 16:00

Sweet!

Rfreaky 2025-07-01 16:26

I once tried to turn on fog lights with a voice command. It told me that I is not able to turn the fog lights on. So it actually did understand what I wanted but just didn't want to do it.

majesticjg 2025-07-01 16:29

I use voice commands a lot without incident. Are you on nVidia, Intel or AMD?

moldy912 2025-07-01 16:32

Because the LLM will try to interpret the true meaning of what you’re saying, along with preprompting. It is also trained on all sorts of correct and incorrect grammar and spelling. If you say “go uhhhh hmmm…I think to the store, no wait actually I want to go home”, it knows that you basically meant navigate home, and it will hook into whatever Tesla system to navigate you home, a saved address. It would likely work with interruptions too, although depends on the interruption and if it can separate that.

SolenoidSoldier 2025-07-01 16:39

FYI, you're limited to 15 minutes of voice chat in the free version.

Effective_Taste_1471 2025-07-01 16:59

why post something not yours?

Effective_Taste_1471 2025-07-01 16:59

not every vehicle will have this.

OneFourtyFivePilot 2025-07-01 18:48

SavingsFew3440 2025-07-01 18:49

People don’t pay for premium?

spudzo 2025-07-01 19:02

Soon Tesla cars will be the first vehicle in the world capable of erotic role play.

draftstone 2025-07-01 19:05

Will the old voice assistant still work if people don't pay for grok?

[deleted] 2025-07-01 19:14

Yea it funny how that works lol

Server_Reset 2025-07-01 19:24

NSFW car, does it moan when you honk the horn?

PotatoesAndChill 2025-07-01 19:39

I get your point, but if I say "navigate to Ras Al Khaimah" and the STT returns "navigate to ross alchemy", what's the AI gonna do with that?

allofdarknessin1 2025-07-01 19:52

I honestly can’t remember a lot of voice commands that I’d want to use. Only some and there’s no official table from Tesla either. Having ai understand it would be amazing for the rare times that I need something and don’t want to take my eyes off the road to find it in the menu.

allofdarknessin1 2025-07-01 19:54

This. It’s strange.

NewMY2020 2025-07-01 20:06

Would prefer apple play connectivity, Siri is already there....just seems like double effort. I get what "Tesla" is trying to do with this. Just feels forced. Create a problem, sell the solution kind of thing.

NewMY2020 2025-07-01 20:07

Pay 2 Play model for a car is just horrible overall. Other luxury brands do it too. Still sucks.

t3hWheez 2025-07-01 20:11

no

alle0441 2025-07-01 20:58

I'm an OG from 2018, I ain't paying for this shit lol

The_Airwolf_Theme 2025-07-01 21:36

I get curious about all sorts of things while driving and would love the ability to chat or bounce ideas off and AI. I'd prefer Claude but Grok is fine, too.

Bookandaglassofwine 2025-07-01 22:13

Does an unpaid X account work or do you need a separate paid Grok account?

Matt_NZ 2025-07-01 22:29

Just remember that LLM's are programmed to be nice to you, not to challenge you. They will often give you the wrong information to satisfy that purpose

The_Airwolf_Theme 2025-07-01 22:37

I'd be asking it factual questions not playing "AITA" with it

AverageCanadian 2025-07-01 22:38

I really hope so. Their voice assistant is hot trash.

AJHenderson 2025-07-01 22:56

I've had them argue with me and insist I'm wrong before finally being convinced I'm right on something it was obviously wrong about.

AJHenderson 2025-07-01 22:57

No, only when you tickle the under carriage.

cooliozza 2025-07-01 23:29

famoussasjohn 2025-07-02 00:38

Post from the Greentheonly - https://x.com/greentheonly/status/1939890055566279129 Someone asked if it works on Intel, he said it does not work with Intel. Could just mean not available at the moment or just flat out won't work.

BluePhire 2025-07-02 02:21

If you press the wiper button, you can use the (I wanna say right) scroller to cycle the speed.

epicflyman 2025-07-02 02:58

Makes no difference, they still make shit up all the time. Source - I use Claude daily for work. Takes a lot of hand-holding to make sure it's doing what I intend.

Training-Dot-7688 2025-07-02 03:07

I say navigate to.. and it always works fine whether it's an address or my home. If I ask for something there are many of, it pops up a map to select one nearby

Training-Dot-7688 2025-07-02 03:09

It's the left wheel, the one next to the washer button. A few times doing this while glancing at the screen to confirm your selection, you can flip between any setting you want pretty easily just by counting the clicks

FrostyD7 2025-07-02 04:05

I use that option and I've got it dialed in without needing to look at the UI, but it's still not as intuitive or quick as a dial. If I wanna turn them off in light rain at a stop light, I just don't bother in the tesla. Traditional vehicles make it a trivial operation and I don't have to initiate a wipe first to change the setting. And other dials have a start and end, it's easier to slide it where it needs to go without thinking. Its first world shit for sure but it changes how often I override the wipers, to an detriment.

Nimblebimble123 2025-07-02 05:55

Bugger, that doesn't work in the uk

ekobres 2025-07-02 13:42

If correcting the AI and winning the argument made you happy, mission still accomplished.

AbilityApprehensive 2025-07-02 13:53

I want to see someone enabling NSFW and Kids mode at the same time. Wrong use of UI elements :D or maybe not...

Upstairs-Inspection3 2025-07-02 15:13

you can introduce parameters when asking a question, i tend to tell it to fact and source check something 50+ times and to use nothing but logic when answering not that hard

moronmonday526 2025-07-02 18:44

I do the same with Gemini on my Pixel 9. It works just like any phone call via Bluetooth, and the conversations are so easy and effective. I'll bring it up on long drives and get restaurant recommendations based on what I'm looking for and where I'm staying for the night. I can even say, "I already ate there a few days ago. What else do you have?"

DeltaBlast 2025-07-02 18:46

I have a data-only sim for €5 a month with unlimited data... which has a lot better service connection.

Sarahp_96 2025-07-02 20:04

If it works with me cussing I’m here for it. Voice command is trash I tell my car to turn on the air. It will roll down the windows.. I’m convinced it hates me..😂😂 just like my iPhone tells me prostitute. Electronics love me!!!

moldy912 2025-07-02 20:53

Yep that would be a limitation of STT. That said, LLM providers do have apis where you can stream the audio directly to them and allow them to process the STT. I’d imagine that’s better, that’s what my company does.

R5Jockey 2025-07-02 22:17

Last I used it it I asked “play Metallica” I *saw* it recognise what I said, perfectly. Actually. Or so it seemed. It then played an Iranian station on TuneIn, and turned the wipers on. No joke, but I roared laughing.

ospreyintokyo 2025-07-04 04:37

Why Claude over Grok?

shortyjacobs 2025-07-04 04:53

There is no distinction between *creative writing* and *information retrieval* in a GPT AI. You can tell it to do it 5 million times and it will still make shit up.

[deleted] 2025-07-04 08:08

Finally! Can I choose Kitt as a voice? From the Knight Rider for those who dont know?

TheRaven65 2025-07-04 14:36

That’s the only way I’ll use it. I’m not paying for Premium Connectivity AND Grok. We HAVE to draw the line on all this subscription BS. It’s gotten out of hand. If Grok isn’t included with Premium Connectivity, I’ll do (just fine) without it.

TheRaven65 2025-07-04 14:37

What stalk? (<-Highland owner. LOL)

TheRaven65 2025-07-04 14:44

I’d set my car on fire if I had to listen to that voice in it all the time. LOL! Sorry, but I always found it super-annoying (and I was solidly in the target demographic for Knight Rider).

Not excited about Grok, considering it's [powered by smog-producing methane turbines in Memphis](https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/06/elon-musk-xai-memphis-gas-turbines-air-pollution-permits-00317582). Also, I don't really have an interest in a cloud-based AI assistant in the car. I both have a phone and spend time in areas with poor cellular service.

To be fair I have never used Grok but I've been a Claude Pro subscriber for a long time now and it's my LLM of choice.

I use the native mobile app. I have the paid $20 a month version. I think it is in the free version too, but limited.

* You are driving through town and you are curious to know the history about it. * You get into an argument with someone, ask AI for the right answer * You are on the way to an interview, last minute questions to prepare you. * Someone to talk to while you drive (co-pilot) * Better recommendations for restaurants, events, venues while arriving somewhere * Endless possibilities.

Totally agreed lol. AI as a concept is a very broad term and often not an accurate representation of what we’re seeing today. We have ANI (artificial narrow intelligence), which includes LLMs, and eventually we will branch into AGI and hopefully never touch ASI. And AI has been a concept since the 1956 Dartmouth conference, where LLMs certainly didn’t exist, so I totally agree, AI never referred to LLMs in the first place.

first day on the internet?

We can test that out easily. Here's Gemini: > The user likely intends to navigate to "Ross Al Khail," a common place name in the United Arab Emirates. The speech recognition system has likely misinterpreted "Khail" as "Alchemy" due to phonetic similarity and its limited vocabulary. Close, but no cookie. Here's ChatGPT: > [...] The user intends for the car to start navigation to Ras Al Khaimah, a city/emirate in the UAE. The car system should search for a destination matching "Ras Al Khaimah" and begin route guidance accordingly. My prompt: Evaluate the user's intent behind the utterance "navigate to ross alchemy", assuming you are a car computer, the car is currently located in the United Arab Emirates, and the text has been generated by a limited speech recognition system that only understands English words.

tbh, in general, I'd rather pay $5 for service A and $5 for service B than $50 for services A-Z.

I’m in a non-US accent is what the problem is. However, I played with chatGPT one night, got drunk, slurred at it with all sorts of silly accents, and paused, and stumbles, and mumbles, like pushed it to understand what I was saying hard, and it understood everything I said perfectly. Better than most humans I reckon. Haven’t tried with grok, and I’m not sure how it does voice recognition: as part of its training or not.

Tennessee87 2025-07-06 12:16

Hopefully it improves voice dictation for texting

[deleted] 2025-07-07 18:57

Protip: it's making the sources up too

mr_chill_pill 2025-07-08 02:02

When does Grok released?

Flopublic 2025-07-08 12:43

Can't wait to be lectured on white genoc*de in South Africa while trying to get grok to turn on my windshield wipers

get-a-mac 2025-07-09 04:47

When? When? When. I want this like yesterday, since the voice command as is, is so DUMB. I never thought anything could be dumber than Siri, but alas, thy name is Tesla Voice command.

Silver_Insect_6482 2025-07-10 18:44

This is true, it has gotten better for me too but hasn’t gone away either

OoaHelaNatten 2025-07-10 20:52

Maybe auto window wipers will work now? 😱

AsAp0712 2025-07-11 23:03

Do you think he will give us supergrok for free or is that wishful thinking?

Slipping-in-oil 2025-07-15 14:33

Only amd. Nothing to see here for Intel

DAGRluvr 2025-07-17 04:26

This is inaccurate information, you don’t need a grok subscription. It will be included as a feature for any Tesla that meets the specifications
