Nothing says built to last or be durable while charging for monthly fee for warranty

Yeah.. :(

Well this is an extended service agreement, so covers past the original warranty. Still, those are usually sold for the full period. I wonder if they’re jacking up rates and trying to disguise it by switching to monthly? $1500 / year seems steep but i haven’t shopped for this kind of coverage in a while.

So I never got the esa. I see it excludes drive unit, battery, wheels etc. what exactly does it cover that it would pay for? Stuff like control arms or hvac perhaps? Basically wondering if it's worth it

imacleopard 2025-06-21 02:03

Idk if it even covers control arms since it also excludes maintenance items. So id like to see a full list of what IS covered

OneExhaustedFather_ 2025-06-21 02:13

Excludes battery and drive unit because their warranties already have longer than basic warranties. This covers what you mentioned and other failed components. Like a window switch which on certain models is only available with the $800 door panel.

That’s very steep, not sure what it was before but I got an 80k or 8 year extended warranty for my Raptor for $2500 CAD. So this seems like a huge rip off and allows them to increase the price anytime during the warranty which seems pretty scary to me.

I found my SC to be very helpful with the ESA. I had my spoiler replaced, door strap fixed, trunk strut motor replaced, control arms, alignment done, etc. basically things I didn’t expect would be covered but I gave it a shot. They do charge 100 dollar deductible though. But overall I saved a lot more compared to paying out of pocket.

The price varies depending on the car. It's $50/mo for the 3/Y, $125 for the S, and $150 for the X. That's $600, $1500, or $1800 per year. However, a LOT of exclusions apply. [See my other comment.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/WxBhgNqQYB)

bozodoozy 2025-06-21 03:22

or the headlight unit with a failed "eyebrow" that costs $1500 and individually warranted for 12 months? nope. see u/ctzn4's link below.

ctzn4 2025-06-21 03:31

The exclusions list is so long that even I am dizzy. I have already had one headlight replaced for the DRL/eyebrow failure. Where on that list does it say that is not included? One would assume that headlights are a part of the normal operation of a vehicle and not exactly "wear and tear."

bozodoozy 2025-06-21 03:43

the 4th item, starts with bright metal, includes sealed beams?

This guy single-handed convinced me to not do this: https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/ZL2ZNYEE6F

OneExhaustedFather_ 2025-06-21 05:09

On the vehicle from factory they have full basic warranty. Replacement installed outside of warranty has 12mo 12,000mi warranty. That’s standard in the auto industry

OneExhaustedFather_ 2025-06-21 05:10

Bright metal work is the chrome/black chrome trim. Unless they changed the ESA in the last year since I left, headlamps and tails are covered

chill_m0de 2025-06-21 05:22

Do you already have ESA? or are you referring to the new vehicle warranty expiring? I'm guessing the extension might only be for existing ESA holders.

Life_Connection420 2025-06-21 11:27

Best solution, get rid of the car upon warranty expiration. Get a new one.

Overall_Affect_2782 2025-06-21 13:46

Control arms count as maintenance? Where does Tesla say that?

icy1007 2025-06-22 02:13

Covers roughly whatever is covered by the basic vehicle warranty.

My_Man_Tyrone 2025-06-22 20:08

That is a crazy consumer mindset. Not everyone can afford to just get a new car every 4 years

ergzay 2025-06-22 20:46

> I see it excludes drive unit, battery, wheels etc. what exactly does it cover that it would pay for? Because it's already covered by an even longer warranty. https://www.tesla.com/support/vehicle-warranty Look at the "Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty" section.

But, there's a guy on that thread that says he got a bunch of stuff repaired by the warranty. After reading the exclusions, it seems to me like stuff that wouldn't be covered under the ESA. But he says they did it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ My original warranty expires in 150 miles I've never taken my car anywhere for service. I do it all... But it sounds like that excludes me from using the ESA because I didn't take it to a shop. 🫠
