Adaptive headlights!

Biggest blind spot is now pretty much gone. Sentry Cam limitation and Adaptive headlights were two of the most requested features. They got them both in one release, that's solid. If you wanted these updates on another car you'd have to buy a newer model year.

I have matrix headlights already activated on Model Y Juniper and they work great. No more low beams when there is oncoming traffic.

Wish the “blinker cam” would be changed to only display when the vehicle is moving (e.g., changing lanes). I don’t need to see behind me when I’m stopped, at a stop sign, turning 90-degrees to the right. In fact, the camera view just clutters the UI — whenever the car is stopped, I’d rather the FSD UI pivot to show me what it’s seeing down the main “threat axis” — kind of like how Chuck Cook will hold his finger on the UI to force it to keep showing what the car is seeing in his UPL videos.

Works great. But until this update, you would have to manually reconnect to WiFi every time you got in the car. So PITA, but it worked just fine.

I don't even understand why the new model X needs this. It already has a USS on the roof for the falcon wing doors that it also uses to not open the trunk to full height.

The difference being the car physically can't support the updates (e.g., it doesn't have Matrix headlights, and doesn't have a Ryzen CPU). Other car manufacturers usually would only target their newest model years for new features, even if older model years could support physically support them just fine. The cars which *can* support the upgrades *are* getting it. That's the difference.

Someone in the sub was saying the car doesn’t distinguish between home WiFi and hotspot WiFi, and can end up sending go upon tons of telemetry data over the hotspot. Edit - typo

Set up a Siri shortcut if you have iPhone so that when you connect to the Bluetooth device that is your car, hot spot turns on. And, make one so when it disconnects, hotspot turns off. Been doing that for a year. Works perfect.

If you’re taking a right at a stop sign you should absolutely be checking your blind spot/mirrors for cyclists or anything unexpected

This update is better but I have been using a workaround by naming my hotspot same as my home wifi and having the same password. It works smoothly.

Parking Intel-based cars manually is tough in tight spots. Even with lots of cameras, judging distance is very hard compared cars having on 360° camera view or Ryzen-based Teslas. When do we get at least a lightweight Autopark-style view in manual parking mode?

Wondering if they will ever fix gapless playback for Spotify. They had it for about a year and then it broke again. That was a year ago and it still isn’t fixed.

Glad I rejected my original 2022 VIN that had the old headlights due to parts shortages. Got assigned a new one a week later with the matrix lights. People on forums were saying people were crazy and making too big of a deal for no real difference.

They’re wrong. I had a 2021 refresh S which was bought back and I then got a 2022 refresh S with matrix. The difference in uniformity and brightness and visibility is HUGE. I remember moving from my 2019 Model 3 (LED, non-matrix) to the 2021 S and it was actually super disappointing in terms of headlights. The 2022 refresh is night and day better for driving at night.

MCU is not responsible for dashcam encoding, the FSD computer is (HW3/HW4). The raw camera feeds goes to the Autopilot computer, where it gets encoded, and the encoded stream gets transferred by ethernet to the MCU. The FSD computer is capable of encoding all 9 camera streams simultaneously. It has to, because Tesla needs data for FSD training and all 9 camera feeds gets sent back to Tesla. Older Tesla's with MCU2 + HW3.0 only has a 100mbps ethernet link. 100mbps is barely enough to transfer the 4 encoded streams to the MCU, let alone a raw video stream. In later versions fo HW3 (aka HW3.1), the ethernet link was upgraded to gigabit as 100mbps was very congested. The limitation on 4 streams is because of the older hardware's 100mbps limit. While this can be circumvented by lowering video bitrate, but that reduces the already somewhat low video quality even lower. Of course on HW3.1 and above this is not a problem with the gigabit link.

This is better than the Xmas update!

What, I always have to start Hotspot on iPhone, then when I start driving I need to turn on WiFi in the Car again because it turns off itself when putting in D.

My 2022 Model 3 non highland has adaptive. Starting with year 2022 they all have.

I've seen posts that the 2022 Ys don't have it, only starting with 2023. I have a 2022 Y so I guess I'll find out? Any idea if that could be retrofit?

Look at the headlight, if it has the glass lens, round like a globe then you have matrix.

Ah interesting, I never figured that could be it. I’ve always had data sharing turned off too. Checking my router usage over the last month it looks like the car has used all of 10gb, and that was on two days mostly, likely meaning they were software updates.

I just want the ability to make the clock bigger.

Was hoping for this as well, but as we know with Siri AI integration, it can be difficult to integrate with existing voice functions.

Auto comfort mode on AP in CT is just stupid since comfort mode defaults to chill profile. They should give an option to disable that.

Actually you don't have to manually connect. As long as you check the "keep connected in drive" option it stays connected. The issue is there is a delay when you get in the car before it starts searching for WiFi. If you go into Drive too quickly it won't attempt to connect to your hotspot at all in Drive. But if you wait 30 seconds hotspot works fine. Source: I've been doing this for the last 6 months since the price increase.

There's a delay between getting in the car and when it starts searching for WiFi If you start driving too quickly it will never search when in drive. I think now they are saying if you mark a connection as hotspot it will attempt to search for it in drive.

Software is one of the most important, if not the most important, part of an electric car or any modern car. It controls every part of the car including battery management, drivetrain, steering, braking, etc etc. not just the infotainment.

Why would any software engineers want to work for Ford? It’s an old legacy company good at making ICE cars, but far from a tech company.

They’re the top selling car in the US and the leading EV manufacturer worldwide, they’re not going anywhere any time soon lol

Way more complicated than just seeing if you just visually look at the headlight and see if it’s it has a black housing with a projector lens or just clear reflectors. But I guess this way is the only sure way for people who aren’t capable of differentiating it visually.

They do other things, but their primary purpose is still cars. Most modern cars are software platforms at this point, even the brands that are more traditional still have a massive amount of software and electronics in their vehicles

How do you set the trunk height location? The release notes just provide instruction on setting the height, but does the car automatically remember where it currently is with that height? At my work garage, I have less clearance than at home, so if I manually adjust and hold down the button until the tone, is that it and it remembers it for that location only?

It's possible it's just because I have Intel instead of Ryzen. It takes ~15 seconds after getting in the car before the MCU will bother turning on WiFi to start searching, and if you put it in drive before that time, it won't turn on WiFi at all.

You can manually do that, but Auto keeps the high beam on all the time.

I was approved for a senior role at the EV division. I asked why they weren't going with an internal candidate, given their pipeline. "Oh, we want someone NOT at Ford. Want absolutely want it to be fresh perspectives, not old blue, blah blah". No update for 3 weeks. Then they tell me they hired an internal candidate.

Sure they do. The amount of software or quality of software just isn’t the same for legacy companies. When they only rollout one update a year or when they can’t even get OTA to work reliably, it doesn’t give me faith in their software expertise.

In my area I-40 is mostly semi trucks. Its just way less stressful to take surface streets most of the time. Especially for only 1 or 2 exits.

I love taking country/rural roads for fun drives and just getting lost on random roads. On the way back home, I may need some directions but don't want to be on the highway. I know that's a small use case.

I would imagine it works like sentry mode at different locations. If so, it should remember height at each location you set it (ex. work, home etc).

Energy and robotics is my guess. I easily mass produced robot that can learn would be revolutionary but its not hard to understand that Tesla could be beaten to the market. Yet at the same time they may just be able to do it for far less. Energy simply because it YOY increases significantly and the worlds appetite for energy storage isn't going to stop anytime soon. Again many competitors but Telsa has the experience behind them

You’re just arguing the lightest of semantics, that tweet was in direct response to asking if a pre juniper Model Y with Matrix headlights was getting them completely activated in the US and Lars says “almost there”. I’d consider that a commitment or promise by the poster who is…oh yeah, a Tesla VP. I’m not saying promises are ironclad from a Tesla exec, I’m saying Lars did in fact point to pre refresh Model 3/Y getting Matrix in the US, unless you want to tell me that Juniper was actually widely available in Iceland to the general public in October 2024 and it’s a big secret. Remember why context is important, and then form a response to this.

Still no updates to turn by turn navigation? It’s still worse than a Garmin from the early 2000s, and constantly takes the wrong exit or just doesn’t display any turn information at all. It’s extremely shitty.

For some reason google maps always suggests a route that is “faster” and sometimes it is faster to take a road south 3 miles, then a highway north for 10 miles, then get off the highway and drive 3 miles south rather than just take a 4 mile total route on a slower road.

He simply said that adaptive headlight functionality is coming to the US soon. I don't think he was referring to any specific models. It's entirely possible that he could've meant Highland and Juniper only (but I think it's likely more than just those two). The point is: adaptative headlights coming to pre-refresh models certainly was never a promise. At best it was just one possible interpretation of a vague tweet. I think it will happen, but it wasn't promised.

I disagree because I’m interpreting that response to a specific situation as a specific intent to deliver for that situation. Model Y Juniper wasn’t publicly released, so speculation that it was a general commitment to bring matrix headlights for that vehicle alongside the not referenced Model 3 Highland makes so much less sense than thinking it was referring to the actual content of the post it was responding to. I prefer to think the simplest solution is often what’s true rather than a convoluted reference to a not even released yet model and other vehicles in the Tesla lineup. Probably gonna be an agree to disagree here on the specific promise Lars made.

Between this and the traffic visual being part of the non premium data now, I might go back to standard and save $10 a month.

I take the back roads to work pretty often because it's the same as sitting in traffic on the highway, until now I've had to manually plug in waypoints so the car will navigate that way.

I've actually been holding off on updating specifically for this (I use my fridge a lot). I decided I'd only upgrade either if they added this or if Adaptive headlight support got added (for safety, then I'd tap the 12V penthouse to power my fridge). Nice to be getting both hopefully in thr same update (they may not support adaptive headlights for first gen matrix). Seems I can avoid tapping power on the penthouse for now, really wish they'd support V2G officially rather than the third party solution that's put there.

Maybe 1st gen matrix from 2021 won't be supported, maybe the processing is done by the MCU and Intel isn't powerful enough to run the current model, maybe the processing is done by the FSD computer and HW3 isn't powerful enough to reliably switch the matrix, maybe the HW3 cameras aren't high enough resolution or dynamic range to be able to accurately outline cars on the road, maybe they still don't like the Intel models and just won't activate it on those. We won't know until cars have the software update. I really hope they work, but any one of the above could prevent my car from getting the adaptive headlights support.

Well we know the 6-camera recording only is for some models, and it might be just AI4 models. Or it might be Ryzen models. So vague.

AP and FSD is not at all affected by chill or other throttle modes. FSD computer makes direct acceleration input to the motor, it doesn’t care how the pedal feels to the driver. Comfort mode (and chill) should switch off when AP disengages.

Wasn't my experience in my S. Didn't get to try it out in CT. Maybe they changed it since I last tried it in S.
