Soft tonneau?? Isn’t the whole point that the bed is secure?? Edit: the soft tonneau cover is a $750 addition and isn’t even waterproof. Absolute joke of a trim level
Woah, no more vault? Seems to be manual too according to the description
I know it won't have all the features of the AWD version, but this sure seems like insane bang for the buck.
gross
Great range
Wow unexpected! more range
Glad I got my AWD
I like those tires much better than the Pirelli
This should be much cheaper than $10k less. It was like they tried to save every dollar they could by stripping features out with this trim but didn’t realize it would only save $10k. If this was truly supposed to be the ultimate working, long haul trim, at least give it more range than a 8-9% increase from AWD.
Textile seats 😎
Can you upgrade to the normal tonneau?
um, what is a "\*\*Powershare Outlet Adapter only compatible with Cybertruck, and Powershare enabled Mobile Chargers." I guess it is another adapter for the powershare mobile connector that lets you plug a 110v device in?
someone posted this in another sub...if all this is true, what a joke. • No HEPA filter • No air suspension (adaptive coil spring suspension) • No rear light bar • Standard bed with no tonneau cover included. Upgradeable to $750 soft tonneau. This soft cover increases range to 363 miles (from 350) • Textile seats (vs vegan leather on AWD trim) • Headlights without signature lamps • Standard bed lamps (vs premium lights on AWD) • No L-track in bed • No 2x 120V, 1x 240V outlets in the bed • No 2x 120V outlets in the cabin • No heated rear seats & no ventilated front seats • Standard center console with no second row screen • 7 speaker audio (vs 15 speakers on AWD trim) • No active noise cancellation • No mechanical front locking diff (due to only single motor) • Lower 2,007 lbs payload (vs 2,500 on AWD trim) • Lower 7,500 lbs towing capacity (vs 11k on AWD trim)
Where are the other 100 comments?
Textile seats really not a fan of
So the price before credit is $69,990. Same as the original announced price of the top of the range 500mi Trimotor variant. For $10k less than the AWD you get: - RWD vs AWD - 7500lb towing vs 11000lb - 6.2s 0-60 vs 4.1s - Cloth Seats - No ventilated front seats - No heated rear seats - “Standard Console” vs “Premium Console” (No rear screen) - 7 speakers vs 15 speakers - No motorized hard tonneau - Soft tonneau can be added for $750 - Headlamps without “signature lamps” - “Standard bed lamps” vs “Premium bed lamps” - “Standard tail lamps” vs “Premium tail lamps” - No L-tracks in bed - No power outlets in cabin - No power outlets in bed - Coil suspension vs adjustable air suspension That seems like you’re losing a lot for a $10k price reduction on an already expensive truck.
Which sound system is it?
The whole point of CT is technology and versatility. Give us dual motor with 500 mile range for 75k or 320 mile for 60k if you want to actually achieve set goal of moving 1 million units per year.
Bug in automod, it's been fixed.
This seems overpriced at $70k before credits for the features they removed. It needs to be $60-63k for this to make sense, but the cost might make it impossible. • No HEPA filter • No air suspension (adaptive coil spring suspension) • No rear light bar • Standard bed with no tonneau cover included. Upgradeable to $750 soft tonneau (pictured below). This soft cover increases range to 363 miles (from 350) • Textile seats (vs vegan leather on AWD trim) • Headlights without signature lamps • Standard bed lamps (vs premium lights on AWD) • No L-track in bed • No 2x 120V, 1x 240V outlets in the bed • No 2x 120V outlets in the cabin • No heated rear seats & no ventilated front seats • Standard center console with no second row screen • 7 speaker audio (vs 15 speakers on AWD trim) • No active noise cancellation • No mechanical front locking diff (due to only single motor) • Lower 2,007 lbs payload (vs 2,500 on AWD trim) • Lower 7,500 lbs towing capacity (vs 11k on AWD trim) https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1910513004980105547
Yes, they've mentioned that this adapter is coming but it isn't actually available yet.
How does the credit work if the government removes it? Everyone who purchased an eligible vehicle while the credit is in place is in the clear? Or will they make you pay it back at filing next year?
It's true, you can go here and click "Compare Models" to see https://www.tesla.com/cybertruck/design#overview
I would love to see pictures of what premium tail lamps versus standard truly means. losing the outlets is a ridiculous as on the compare page in indicates both the cabin and bed outlets. I can see stripping out the 240v from the bed. I do not mind losing the rear screen, towing, and performance, but a rental quality interior with a premium price is just wrong.
It’s a truck bed homie, relax
This should be $49k. It’s so bare bones in comparison and literally a wtf?! are they doing trim package. Tesla has always kept certain features standard across the range of models to limit the number of unique parts and assembly processes. This is flat out dumb.
I mean wtf? They eliminated a lot of features that are good for a work truck. Also the vegan leather is premium now? What are they thinking?!
Many would say it’s priced competitively with the competition - https://x.com/cybrtrkguy/status/1910663282639220920?s=46&t=5wpPwIWgsDYr7eCY-5bnow
Just a buy a used AWD for the same price or less. This options package, or lack thereof, is a joke for Tesla to put out. They eliminated some core features that make Tesla a Tesla and not a Legacy brand offering.
Because they striped half the features it probably saved a ton of weight.
Can’t imagine owning a RWD truck…. Kinda defeats the purpose.
Bare bones? It’s not exactly a standard cab F150. What happened to the “just give me a basic truck please” circlejerk? Automakers can’t win, people always complain.
[removed]
Can’t please any of you whiners. Just GiVe mE a bAsIC tRucK circlejerk is what everyone says when they don’t like the price
Exactly I don’t think it’s worth the price at all with all this missing . Maybe 49k but not 70k. It was already overpriced
\- No sales.
So it's more expensive than the equivalent F-150 but without the bed outlets or AWD. If you add a hard retractable tonneau and the 240V bed outlet option to the F-150 it's the same price as this trim, and has dual motor AWD. All of the Rivian trims also include power outlets and AWD.
The equivalently priced F-150 includes outlets in the cab and bed plus dual-motor AWD. A basic truck is fine, but $70k isn't basic truck pricing.
Reduced, 7 speakers versus 15 speakers in the other trims.
For all the stuff they cut they'd have to cut their asking price in half for me to consider it.
Probably not. Parted out covers are running close to ten grand.
Bummer kills the deal
$70k before credits for a truck without any power outlets doesn't seem like insane bang for the buck to me.
I think single motor probably adds more to the range than losing a few lbs in seating or electronics (though the metal tonneau cover probably wasn't light). 362 EPA range starts to make this feel more usable as a truck doing truck things, especially given this is the newer / harder EPA test. (362 EPA today is equivalent to \~ 380-390 from a few years ago).
Should be another 8k cheaper
I’m surprised it was ever offered as default, those tear down guys said the powered one is a very expensive part. No other pickups in the industry come with a bed cover.
This SKU sounds exactly like what the $40k truck should be. Except it’s nearly twice the price.
> vegan leather Plastic seats. Let's call a spade a spade
Normally changes to the tax code apply going forward, so existing purchases would be ok. But the current administration tends to not do things normally, so who knows.
Since when does a "basic truck" cost $70k?
They know their market is not a landscaper who tows and keeps stuff constantly in the bed. Their market is people who want to be noticed. This achieves what that market wants at a minimum cost. Not quite the $40k model promised, but that is a lot of technology and metal. Something had to go to cut price. Also, the range increases are notable, cutting features likely made that possible.
I’ll still pass
you can see the taillight difference on tesla website
I mean… if I was actually buying one, most of these aren’t a deal breaker. Biggest bummer in the whole list is losing the 240v outlet.
Just checked inventory near me and you can get a 2024 Pro lightning Awd for 52k. With a bigger battery it'd still be under 60k. A 2025 Xlt awd standard range is 63k with dealer savings. Pricing is still premium compared to the lightning
Sure - and when those were released, no discounts were available immediately. Tesla prices will creep down as usual.
Not for $70k. Too many things have been removed to only knock off $10k. I’d be really surprised if a wave a buyers showed up for this. A base Model 3 still has a lot of standard features and that’s part of the Tesla brand image. Maybe they are trying to get people to see the AWD as the better “value” and don’t want to actually sell this one.
Lmao nobody ever said 1 million units per year. That would be insane. No pickup truck sells that much.
Exactly! What are they actually saving going to cloth?
Considering they sold less than 10k units in all Q1, price is a major issue on top of the brand image. This model is not helping anything. It’s going to get roasted online and by car reviewers.
Elon Musk has positioned the Tesla Cybertruck as a direct competitor to the Ford F-150. In a 2015 interview with CNN, Musk stated that Tesla’s pickup truck would be the equivalent of a Ford F-150 and the truck was designed to be mass produced.
Basic for Tesla has always been the core features are the same across the range of models. Also the Cybertruck features on the most part are not over the top to begin with. There isn’t much to cut or change. $70k is a lot of money for a basic truck.
He literally never said 1 million units per year. He said *maybe* 250k. And that was a stretch goal. 1 million is way more than just "mass produced". That would be the top-selling pickup truck in the world by far and approaching the top-selling vehicle of any kind, which simply isn't going to happen.
It’s not priced as such. I can see eliminating some of the features but others should remain the same across the whole line. Different seats, way different stereo, no outlets, different headlight/taillights, sounds like no air ride suspension…doesn’t make sense for $70k.
F150 is main income maker for Ford, they sell close to 1 million units and this is where the number comes from. If Tesla competes and wins it will mean it will achieve at least that level of sales.
Would be awesome for $59k before credit but this is pricy. Keep in mind prices WILL come down and this will be a $50k truck before credit eventually. Just need to cycle through initial sales and ramp it.
Yeah well they really hit a home run selling Cybertruck thus far 🙄 Pretty sure, besides brand image now, the biggest issue has been pricing. Initial Reservation holders thought they were locking in a price and that was not the case. Converting reservations to sales was also not the case. Proof is in the results. Listen to the public and the people who actually want to buy your product.
Tesla is also having an identity/brand crisis and the CT is front and center of that. They are in a real pickle selling these things and this seems like a big miss. Under normal circumstance I’d say sure, no discounts on release, but at this point there are other factors.
Plastic is imported so plenty
Yeah, right at my dealership alone there’s three demos with under 2000 miles. I’d rather pick up a fully loaded with some short king’s butt prints on the driver seat.
Agree with you here and its pretty logical. There may be a bunch of negative feedback for these downgrades, but 7500lbs is more than enough for 95% of people that would like to infrequently tow something and the 240v is only for people looking to use this as either a home generator or contractor grade work truck. However, a RWD truck only removes a lot of appeal for anyone living in a winter climate. Range is nice, but specs and price comparison to a rivian dual makes this a head scratcher. Doubtful many of these sell.
Right. Vast majority of trucks on the road don't have any bed cover. It's a nice-to-have but if this is the deal breaker people are looking for they should probably be shopping for an SUV.
It’s on the Tesla shop now: Powershare Outlet Adapter https://shop.tesla.com/product/powershare-outlet-adapter?sku=1782853-20-D
its The same starting price as an F150 lightning.
Yeah only $10k, and you get an extra motor also!
It’s priced the same as an F150 lightning
Lol
> its The same starting price as an F150 lightning. The F-150 Lightning Flash (long range) is cheaper, has power outlets in the cab and bed, and has dual-motor AWD. And I wouldn't describe either $70k truck as a "basic truck" or particularly affordable.
need higher quality photos of those wheels
I think people are rightfully disappointed regarding how much was stripped vs. the cost reduction. I personally don't mind them cutting out the nonessentials, but it didn't move the needle on pricing as much as I would have expected. I think there are plenty of people out there who just want a "basic truck", but they don't want to pay 70k for it. Biggest miss for me is removing the rear outlets. That is a major perk of an EV truck IMO, and I can't imagine it saves that much money that it was worth removing.
Ah! Yes, that clicks. This does read like the lowest trim possible now that you mention it.
They have fleet data on what people are actually using their cyber trucks for. They probably deleted stuff that is only used by a small percentage of current actual buyers of new vehicles
Thinking of this as a "...but for $10K more look at what you get!" price anchoring model is probably pretty close to the truth. It's like Apple hardware pricing: a stripped down 'base' model but for _just a little bit more_ things get much better. The whole 'no power outlets in an electric truck' really gets me.
And they did the bed cover in part to help goose the range.
Except many of the things they cut cannot be measured in their use. How do you measure the utility of the seat fabric, premium sound, headlamps, L tracks in the bed, etc? I'd be surprised if the ventilated/heated seats aren't highly utilized by most owners. Same with the bed cover, which I agree with cutting due to the cost, but again didn't move the needle that much. Just my 2c. We'll see how it sells. I just personally could not imagine losing all of those features over the AWD, only to save 10k.
They cant always be measured in their use but there’s an entire ecosystem of cost engineering and market research. Consulting firms gather information on pricing, features, take rates, and sell it. That’s what the product planning teams do. Ive worked in cost engineering in the auto industry in the past.
I'll take the Chevy Silverado work truck thanks. My wife's rst with the 200 KW hour battery is amazing.
Any one of these isnt a deal breaker, but add them all up and its pretty significant
Same here
I think they are banking on $7500 credit
Note contractors would prefer 240 volts on an otherwise stripped down truck. The life of a truck used by contractors can be pretty rough but a 240 volt outlet just makes versatility on the job site smarter. RWD in winter is fine as I've done so for 40+ years, just make sure your rear axel is limited slip or similar. In any event your are right way to expensive for what one gets.
I’d argue the F150 Lightning offers more for the money except range. I don’t know what the Silverado EV starts but it seems like the best truck option atm.
Where’s the cloth come from? I find it hard to believe this is the expense to cut out.
Actually cloth seats are an upgrade. Frankly I'm not a fan of center consoles any more either. But the rest of your points are on target. Very expensive for what one gets. Of course trucks from the big 3 are not cheap either these days.
$750 for a cloth cover with a couple cross bars is egregious though. So is the removal of the mounting track in the bed. Air suspension, rear screen, that I get.
Nothing left to remove except physical battery!
Getting rid of the rear screen is criminal
The seats are the worst. My model 3 is a year old and the seats are already sagging like crazy.
Interesting to see how the atmosphere in this sub has changed. 1-2 years ago, "Elon" was the savior and and critique on him or Tesla was almost considered blasphemic. With discussions more nuanced and balanced, it might be worth taking a look here again.
Yeah. That's what I'm saying - and based on the take rate of the existing CT i don't think contractors are lining up for the 240v outlet (and honestly most would still prefer a generator that you can leave on the job site and/or closer to where you actually need the power). Just feels like this trim was designed for nobody.
Was it confirmed that Tesla is actually using the same calculations as everyone else? Using a standard F150 WT model as a comparison would indicate that it's more of a WT...just that you can get two of the aforementioned Fords for one of these.
[deleted]
Which calculations specifically? The base-base work truck F-150 - single cab, etc. is cheap at $38K, though the 4-door (Supercrew) + 6 1/2" bed (= CT) starts at $50K. Both are still a lot cheaper than even after incentives CT ($62K). You can probably make up $10K in "gas", maintenance, and time back from not needing maintenance over it's lifetime, but not the whole difference for either truck, though it's a fairly close TCO if you're comparing 4-door+6.5 ft bed. Insurance is probably cheaper on the F-150 too, but there may also be state incentives on the CT (Colorado $5K?) bringing the price down even more. I think CT is at least 'enteirng the ballpark' of being something to consider for a work truck but not cheap for sure..
Not the ones i looked at, if anything you might get a discount.
Agree, this is not a good deal. They need to decide once and for all if they want to sell these trucks or not.
No outlets in the bed? Aw hellll nawwww
I'm not sure nobody. I'm a potential customer but have NEVER purchased a high end pickup. Every pickup I've owned has been slightly above a stripped down work truck. Non of those have come close to the cost of this truck. I'm starting to think that maybe Tesla is unsure of the market and might eventually lower the price. By the way the one big selling point here is that they retained decent driving range.
No heap filters and outlets doesn’t even make sense lmao
I agree, it’s got to be way cheaper, this looks like an total economy build but is priced way too close
The range is better. It doesn't solve for any sort of towing, but should remove a little range anxiety. But exactly as you said, it's still far too expensive for anyone looking for an affordable truck, lost most of the comparable luxury features to support cross shopping against a lariat/Denali type of trim, and with RWD only you've exclude the "adventure / offload" crowd. So I guess this may only appeal to those who really like/want the CT for its design only and couldn't afford the prior trims. Just not sure how large that demographic is. My guess is maybe 5k units a year, maybe a little more?
I don't understand how that could make it into the $37k Model 3(back when they were still making the SR RWD Highland) and not a $70k truck lol.
Exactly. It's literally a 600p 7 inch tablet screen lmao.
It’s not reasonable to expect pricing to stay the same as what they announced because we had a huge bout of inflation between the announcement and release of the car.. Everything else is 30%+ more expensive, so this should be similar unless they were able to innovate cost efficiencies
This does seem like a huge downgrade. Sadly I’ll still keep waiting for end of the year. Hope to see some good incentives
I didn't have all the missing equipment when first reacting. 62.5k for a truck this capable is good -- but yeah there's a LOT of downgrades compared to the AWD, and now that I've seen the whole list I'm glad I got AWD.
Well the dual motor with 300 miles of range was originally supposed to be $50k. Add in inflation since 2019 and you get $62k, versus today’s actual price of $80k. The base RWD with 250 miles of range was supposed to be $40k. With inflation that would be $50k. I don’t think the difference in battery between standard and long range accounts for that whole $20k difference. There’s also competition now for EV pickups that didn’t exist in 2019, and some of those offer more for your money at this price point.
Yes, but there’s also a pinned comment on every post threatening bans for being too pessimistic. So there are limitations here and in subs moderated by the same group.
4x8 bed or its not a work truck. You need to be able to pile in a load of plywood with the gate close or its just a life sytle vehicle. Id love to see Tesla take a stab at a work friendly and affordable pickup truck.
Be glad its not stick shift
Gotta keep them profit margins fat
Greed
One of the best things about Tesla is that no matter what trim of a car you buy, it has the same exact features other than speed / range and maybe some visual / material differences. Sometimes speakers. I hope this doesn't set the trend for other models.
They don't want to sell this version. They just want to make the starting price lower, but you get so much more for only 10k more, that customers see a better value in the more expensive versions.
The AWD variant with tax credit is $72.5k. Inflation since 2019 to 2024 for new cars averaged 34%. $50k x 1.34 = $67k, so they’re only off by $5.5k in 2025 dollars. The remaining difference is probably due to their challenge in bringing the production costs down to a point where they could price it that cheaply. Elon mentioned how they went through production hell with the Cybertruck, which is why it was so delayed.
I much prefer a cloth seat. They feel cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, and wear a lot better than leather seats. All the cars with leather interior ive owned have cracked when they get over 100k miles, the cloth ones look great after the same mileage.
This is definitely their margin variant
No outlets? No light bar? Goodness…
No fast charging
Right, you can get a Ford Lightning Flash for $53k-$54k with a touch of negotiation.
right, its a prism on wheel at that point. No thanks
No thanks. I already had diarrhea this week.
This is absolutely nuts. I didn’t know any of this.
This trim will be dropped in a couple of months when it fails to generate orders, and those who bought will be unable to sell in the future because it will be worthless on the used market.
They just announced a new extension cord that you can plug into the charging port and use as an extension cord to power your devices. Not a terrible workaround for some light-duty power requirements.
Cloth doesn't equal rental quality. Some people much prefer cloth over leather, myself included.
Absolute trash. I hate to say it, but Tesla has really fallen off.
They will need to find a way to lower the price, but then again it has been almost a decades since shopping for a new truck (sticker shock is a real possibility). One of my focus points was that Tesla didn't go in the wrong direction with range. Frankly It isn't range but battery capacity that is important for us in the cold north. What the auto industry really needs is a chemistry that doesn't loose so much capacity in the cold. As for AWD, It will be interesting to see how Cycber Truck with rear wheel drive only works in the winter. Visually it looks like weight distribution is better than the average pickup. Personally the loss of reliability is the reason I stay away from 4 wheel drives.
No outlets and no hard tonneau kinda kills this as a good "cheaper" work truck tbh. Kind of a shit spec.
So why not go to real leather then?
