what location are you looking at? my local shops still have the generic photos.

Let’s go! Congrats on getting your submission through the queue /u/thecrispyleaf!

My area, north of Minneapolis MN is showing an inventory of all used vehicles within 200 miles. Zip is 55434.

thecrispyleaf 2025-03-27 21:27

It looks like it’s vehicle dependent. But looking in Texas, about 90% of the listings seem to have the actual photos.

switch8000 2025-03-27 21:29

Not in my market but hope this goes nationwide!

TeamMCW 2025-03-27 21:47

This isn't new, they used to do this years ago... good to see they are doing it again

MonsieurVox 2025-03-27 21:52

They must be slow-rolling this release/change because all of the ones I see in Texas are generic. It's great that they're starting to show actual pictures though. Not all used cars are created equal, and the fact that you can't see before your delivery if the car you're buying is damaged (small dents/dings/etc.), modified, has significant interior wear and tear, and the like has always been a frustration of mine.

thecrispyleaf 2025-03-27 21:54

I agree, it is great! That was what made me the most nervous buying my 22 M3 used from them, no actual photos of it. Here's a specific example showing used photos: [https://www.tesla.com/my/order/5YJYGAEE9MF243631?range=200&titleStatus=used&redirect=no#overview](https://www.tesla.com/my/order/5YJYGAEE9MF243631?range=200&titleStatus=used&redirect=no#overview)

Fantastic!

VirtualLife76 2025-03-27 22:07

You can't look at them in person somehow? I can't imagine buying a car without seeing in person first.

morrisdl 2025-03-27 22:23

Maybe cars are sitting long enough to justify photos?

1988rx7T2 2025-03-27 22:32

Maybe it took so long because they were trying to come up with an efficient solution that doesn’t rely on outside vendors.

SSESTOELEMENTO 2025-03-27 22:36

And they showed all the imperfections too like small scratches and the condition of the interior. Seems super shady when they switched to the generic pictures. Glad the real pics are back.

[deleted] 2025-03-27 23:23

Well yes. They sell used Teslas.

rainer_d 2025-03-27 23:58

Why I bought from a private seller. Though here around, Tesla has actual photos on 3rd party used car websites. But at least I could testdrive.

Suitable_Switch5242 2025-03-28 00:12

For a long time they didn’t have actual photos. You didn’t get to see the car until you went to pick it up.

nah_you_good 2025-03-28 02:21

Yeah they wouldn't let you, it was rough.

hoppeeness 2025-03-28 03:25

I mean this gets repeated like every few months: https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/s/h89IchQVik https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/RLInNMRzZj

I bought a 2018 Model 3 last year, they shipped it in from out of state. I'm just a few days shy of the full 12 months driving it and haven't had to fix/replace anything other than wiper blades. As far as I can tell they put new wheels/tires on it and the only complaints I have about it are because it's a 2018 (it doesn't have a heated steering wheel / Ryzen CPU / HW4). But for a 2018 I love it. I had to put the first thousand or so on a CC to get it sent to my local pickup spot about 5 miles away from my house (non refundable) before I ever saw or drove the actual car.

dhanson865 2025-03-28 04:14

that link doesn't work, any VIN marked as sold won't show up for anyone but the buyer, so it takes us to a generic search for other vehicles in the area.

thecrispyleaf 2025-03-28 04:17

It must’ve sold since I posted it

dhanson865 2025-03-28 04:20

at a minimum someone put a non refundable deposit on it, they can have it shipped or go get it, they can still reject it but it gets delisted until they pay in full or reject it and take a loss on the transportation/deposit.

JonG67x 2025-03-28 06:09

They have done, but not in all cars, for years. I think it’s only once they’ve been through the CPO checks, as limited as they are. Tesla-Info make it clear which cars have them so it’s easy to see,

RealDonDenito 2025-03-28 09:31

They do that in Germany since 2020 or so :D

Nakatomi2010 2025-03-28 12:16

For a long time they had photos. Then they stopped. I'd be willing to bet that they're mostly taking photos of hard to move cars at this point, or it's a regional thing that they're testing.

Suitable_Switch5242 2025-03-28 12:46

Yes, I imagine at some point it gets difficult to sell used cars that require a $500 non-refundable deposit without even being able to see it. Personally I'd recommend someone interested in a used Tesla get it from a normal used car dealership. Yes they can be a pain to work with, but you get to actually look at, sit in, and test drive the car before paying any money.

Nakatomi2010 2025-03-28 12:53

Well, it varies. Tesla *does* operate some used car centers. The [Kissimmee, FL](https://www.tesla.com/findus/location/store/teslakissimmeeused) location, for example, is a Tesla used car lot where, as I understand it, you can go there and test drive the cars that you're interested in buying. Having personally gone through the Tesla used car purchase thing, back in 2020, where I wasn't allowed to inspect the car prior to purchase, I can attest to it being a mixed bag. That said, Tesla *does* work with you on issues with the car. I brought the Model X I bought in for a *litany* of issues with it that I'd found after delivery, and Tesla *did* work through the issues list, for the things that they were able to resolve. There were only a couple things that they didn't resolve, like a scratch on the lip of the frunk lid, and some other issue that I can't recall right now. It is a risk, but 2020 Tesla did bend over backwards to sort me out.

BoysenberryDouble664 2025-03-29 02:38

That’s a step in the right direction!

Snoo93079 2025-04-01 01:34

Well I haven't seen a used Tesla photo on their website since I've been looking. So I'd consider it new.

OneDollarSatoshi 2025-04-01 12:47

Or maybe they're just competing with a dozen major used car sites where you can see pictures of used Teslas in exquisite detail

sirsmokealotmore88 2025-04-01 19:03

Where is a good place to get a used tesla for cheap and capitalize on these people getting rid of their cars because of politics?
