This is so smart. It takes about 20 minutes to eat, and when you get back to your car it's ready to go.

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 15:21

My interpretation of this announcement is that Steak 'n Shake is going to use Tesla's diner when it's done being built. That said, I would **love** for some synergy between Tesla and ever company that offers food at chargers so that I can put an order in via the main screen and have the food ready when I arrive at the charger. While useless for people driving alone, because the car would fuss for staring at the screen too long, it'd be a boon for multiple people road tripping in the car because the navigator can also be the food ordering person.

YouKidsGetOffMyYard 2025-02-28 15:27

Hopefully one of them is at their Gas City, IN location, That would be great to have a supercharger between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.

CAVU1331 2025-02-28 15:28

Covered my internal camera, I couldn’t stand the constant nagging when I was looking at the road or wearing sunglasses, or driving at night, or…

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 15:29

"Say you use Legacy Autopilot without saying you use Legacy Autopilot". If you use FSD you don't have the option to cover the camera, and I hands free driving via the camera monitoring me.

matthew19 2025-02-28 15:30

This plus staying at hotels with destination chargers means you may really only be charging once per day and waiting.

Capable-Reach7509 2025-02-28 15:30

Nice hopefully some smaller towns get some superchargers with this and it helps people traveling across America

ncsugrad2002 2025-02-28 15:39

Nice! There are several Culver’s around me with chargers and it’s perfect. I’ve never had charging take longer than my lunch.. so I just stop and eat lunch like normal and I’m good to go

mercurial_dude 2025-02-28 15:44

No you put the order in before you leave and the car sends it to the restaurant only 20-30 min before you arrive at the SC 😎

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 15:46

That might work as a concept as well. However, I would argue that it could still send it to the restaurant, but tell the cooks to start making it before you get there. I could get behind a "Order while parked" mentality. Only flaw is if the destination changes away from the designated food place.

paulwesterberg 2025-02-28 15:47

Now do Qdoba. It looks like Steak ‘n Shake locations are limited to northern Illinois.

Ape_Escape_Economy 2025-02-28 15:53

Chipotle next please!

CAVU1331 2025-02-28 16:02

Yeah in the land of snow and dirt FSD is still catching up.

kapeman_ 2025-02-28 16:03

Sure beats the hell out of chargers at Target and Winn-Dixie. I swear I don't understand their placement methodology.

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 16:05

Statement stands. If you're in an area of snow and dirt, Legacy Autopilot would be compromised as much as FSD. I kept FSD enabled when driving through a shit ton of snow recently, and when I lost faith in the system, I'd just drive manually.

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2025-02-28 16:05

Oh wow. Surprised to see Gas City referenced here. I grew up in Marion. And currently have a niece that lives in Gas City. But yea, they do need a SC somewhere along I-69 in that area.

CAVU1331 2025-02-28 16:08

Cool my experience has been different.

YouKidsGetOffMyYard 2025-02-28 16:08

For sure, take it from someone that arrived in Fort Wayne on a cold late night where I was already 0% and still 2 miles from the Fort Wayne SC. made it but it had me worried...

serious_sarcasm 2025-02-28 16:08

lol, steak and shake is closing in smaller towns n

FuckMyParents420 2025-02-28 16:13

The only one I’ve seen myself in socal is in Joshua Tree. Also thanks for the music Mr. Replacement

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2025-02-28 16:16

I went to this site and suggested one at SR-22 and I-69. You have to add an address so I just picked the Burger King. https://www.tesla.com/suggest-superchargers

ObeseSnake 2025-02-28 16:17

Beef tallow french fries too.

ObeseSnake 2025-02-28 16:23

Interesting trivia... Steak ‘n Shake started in Normal, Illinois in 1934 and Rivian has a factory there building the R1S, R1T, EDVs and the upcoming R2.

Big_Cap_6037 2025-02-28 16:35

Trash

skeet_scoot 2025-02-28 16:37

Oh my goodness. Imagine Steak and Shake went back to old school food being brought to the car! This could be a major hit! Super Charging and dining service to the car!

NMI_INT 2025-02-28 16:52

And definitely on roller skates

MJC136 2025-02-28 16:58

Uhhhh the teslas already do this. I can order wawa on the screen before I arrive. Theres a hot link when you go to navigate to the charger.

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 17:00

Might need a demonstration of this one, but I assume it requires the web browser? I'm looking for more of an app experience than the browser. Browser can be a bit fiddly at times. Edit: Ok, I went out to my Model Y, and yes, if you select the charger and click the "globe" button it brings up the Wawa website to start putting an order in. This is useful, but I think it'd work better as not being a website, but an app. That said, I dunno, I need to play with this more now that I've found it.

VentriTV 2025-02-28 17:06

Game changer, have a attendant bring the food too your car like old movie drive ins haha. But for reals, ordering from the Tesla App and the food ready when you arrive would be awesome.

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 17:08

/u/MJC136 has pointed out that it's semi there right now. There's a Wawa with a charger near me, so I went to my car and tapped the "wired globe" button to take me to the Wawa website, and it took me to the order page for that location. It's not super intuitive, but it loads up the browser and you can order from there. I just prefer a more "encapsulated" app like experience versus a browser. I'm going to fiddle with this new information on my next road trip.

azsheepdog 2025-02-28 17:25

This is the future of charging stations, they should do more partnerships with more restaraunts, Denny's would be a great option.

jrr6415sun 2025-02-28 17:31

or just don't use autopilot at all. also 2020 cars don't have internal camera

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-28 17:36

This is a hasty generalization. At no point in this conversation have we gotten into the topic of Tesla *models*. My 2019 Model 3 *does* have a cabin camera. Your statement is true for Legacy Model S/X vehicles, which is Model S/X made from 2016 through 2020. *All* Model 3/Y have cabin cameras. Additionally, the context in which my reply was framed to respond to relates to the guy's statement of: > Covered my internal camera Which states that, for them, they have a cabin camera in their car. Thus, for the *specific* comment I had crafted my response to, my statement was valid, and correct, with no need for further stipulations and corrections. Your coming in here to try and "correct" me is irrelevant and simply causing confusion by splitting hairs. Additionally, your statement of "Or just don't use autopilot at all" is irrelevant because the guy I'm responding to is stating that they wanted *less* nags, which means they're using Autopilot. If you drive manually the cabin camera doesn't come into play, and as such, doesn't need to be covered. Don't be splitting hairs where they need not be split.

ParksNet30 2025-02-28 17:54

Great but they need to be at 100% of locations, even if only level 2, so that you can see them on the map during roadtrips and assume that SnS=charging.

Fancy_Load5502 2025-02-28 18:04

Eh - after driving for a few hours, I am quite happy for a little walk.

theGruben 2025-02-28 18:09

It’s weird to me that there aren’t any along 69 now. The one in fishers kinda sucks being on the 3rd floor of a parking garage. It’s no exactly convenient to the highway and then nothing until Fort Wayne. Gas City definitely makes sense.

YouKidsGetOffMyYard 2025-02-28 18:15

The fishers one is not bad once you figure out how to find it and get in it, although it's close to 69 it takes a while to get to it. It's at least close to some restaurants and stuff if you don't mind a little walk. Yea I would rather have just one in Fort Wayne and one at Gas city vs the two in Fort Wayne now.

[deleted] 2025-02-28 18:20

This is the play. Gas stations are not where i want to be parked at for 20 minutes charging. I want places with the option of semi-edible food and most importantly bathrooms.

AStuf 2025-02-28 18:31

Semi-edible food is a good description of SnS's offerings.

L-Meth_Addict 2025-02-28 18:46

And bigger towns.  I’d be surprised if there were 100 left in the US.

No_Cattle_4552 2025-02-28 20:09

There are ways still, but you will get a nag like you used to before the hands free stuff.

Gordo774 2025-02-28 20:45

Yup, very specifically pick chargers at Culver’s, Sheetz, or meijers when I do long road trips.

ncsugrad2002 2025-02-28 20:46

Sheetz and also buckeyes is a good one in SC

RaymondDoerr 2025-02-28 20:56

That was certainly not on my bingo card.

Luke_starkiller34 2025-02-28 21:00

Sonic still does this.

Spsurgeon 2025-02-28 21:43

Tesla gets it. It takes about 30 min to charge- perfect timing...

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2025-02-28 22:34

I live in Fishers. That SC is only 72 kW (crap). And yes, it’s kinda hard to find if you’re not familiar with the area. I’ve only used it once just because I was curious where it was.

Kilo_Juliett 2025-03-01 00:04

My local chipotle has superchargers by it. Its technically all the same parking lot. But yeah if most chipotles had them that would be epic.

thebiglebowskiisfine 2025-03-01 00:09

They found references in the code to be able to order from the screen once you arrive. Makes sense.

Kilo_Juliett 2025-03-01 00:10

All the steak n shakes I've been to over the last 5 years or so have been pretty run down and kinda gross. Are they on the way back up or is it still like that?

thebiglebowskiisfine 2025-03-01 00:10

If they build it from the ground up and integrate it with Grok, that would be very interesting.

[deleted] 2025-03-01 00:15

Yummy!

jayplus707 2025-03-01 04:45

I actually like Steak n Shake. Look forward to this.

Tookmyprawns 2025-03-01 07:59

Unpopular opinion: People who eat in their cars are fucking weird(, and dirty).

handbanana42 2025-03-01 08:20

Even bigger towns. Seems like an odd choice with how many locations they are losing. A few around me claimed they were remodeling but closed down just like the rest.

handbanana42 2025-03-01 08:23

Not any by me.. They shut it down and are mostly drive-through only with a few that have tables outside with walkups. They still have all theparking spots with menus for this but don't use them anymore.

handbanana42 2025-03-01 08:27

I just want TACC back without disabling FSD. One pull vs. two. FSD still has way too many issues. Like snow, ice, moisture, dirt, etc.

serious_sarcasm 2025-03-01 12:26

Yeah, if they wanted useful partners, then they would have gone with places like Cracker Barrel, and Denny’s … places that are ubiquitous roadtrip stops deliberately close to interstates that offer sit down service. Waffle House would be a okay, but they tend to try to flip tables in 20 minutes on half acre lots.

maverick118717 2025-03-01 13:34

They may have tables flipped, but i have seen them catch the flying chairs and it's still impressive. It's like an American Benihana's where you get food and a show

serious_sarcasm 2025-03-01 13:57

I’ve worked at enough that I can assure you that most are pretty boring the majority of the time. Any place in a city in the South open after 2 am is going to get an occasional idiot. It’s not a Waffle House problem, it’s an American problem. Y’all are the dumbfucks with country and rap songs about sexually harassing women after getting them drunk, or fighting over perceived slights. All Rogers and Forkner wanted to do was serve waffles and eggs.

[deleted] 2025-03-01 14:29

[removed]

maverick118717 2025-03-01 14:41

Your not allowed in anymore are you

serious_sarcasm 2025-03-01 14:54

Maybe their stock will come back out of the shitter.

serious_sarcasm 2025-03-01 14:56

It’s way worst than that; I moved to the north. Corporate managers make bank at WH.

Sstraus-1983 2025-03-01 18:41

Why would anyone make a deal with Tesla they are dying no one wants their cars

yoyobeanquiet 2025-03-01 21:27

New place to boycott steak n shake

KratosWisdom 2025-03-02 05:56

Best partnership steak and shake has made.

fanzakh 2025-03-02 08:36

Steak n Shake... couldn't do better than that? Why not start a restaurant chain served by Optimus?

MaryandLynn 2025-03-02 21:34

Who goes to Steak and Shake anyway??? Oh yeah, tesla drivers now

DMauck4 2025-03-02 21:55

lol all the steak n shakes closed near me 😢

Djaja 2025-03-03 00:32

Unhinged guess. Uneducated theory... They are partnering because they are a chain with good locations, decent footprint, and in not great shape. They have a lot, but not too many. They are normal restaurants and so won't require any crazy demolition or zoning requirements for hazardous materials like a former gas station. Goal being to somehow take ownership of properties if bankruptcy or bought for last minute cash sale Again, just a wild fucking guess

WestFade 2025-03-03 01:36

> Seems like an odd choice with how many locations they are losing Between this and their switch to beef tallow, I think they're trying to turn the brand around. Presumably, having Supercharagers at Steak and Shake locations would drive more traffic to steak and shake, ultimately helping their business

Big_Comparison2849 2025-03-03 01:47

Steak ‘n Shake $20 burgers ain’t gonna catch on in small red states where the average household income is $54,000 a year.

KingGilgamesh123 2025-03-03 22:42

Put one in litchfield Illinois! I hate driving from Chicago to st louis and inbetween edwardsville and springfield there isn't a single charging spot. Ive had to ask local city groups on Facebook to find a charger on some occasions due to weather or traffic throwing off charge numbers to destination.

paradoxofchoice 2025-03-04 00:19

Unfortunately, Steak & Shakes service is so poor your car could take twice as long to charge and you will still be waiting for your food.

photog72 2025-03-05 20:19

Can Tesla please upgrade the superchargers at the Henrietta, TX Steak N Shake from V2 to V3/4? Thx.

photog72 2025-03-05 20:21

Every single SnS has been closed (for a couple years now) in Houston metro. Closest one is in Beaumont. Thankfully, there are plenty of locations (and growing) in the metro for supercharger access.

Device_Outside 2025-03-07 07:32

Also State Farm headquarters…

cryptoengineer 2025-03-07 19:02

About a year ago they were at 406.

cryptoengineer 2025-03-07 19:07

My 2019 M3 has an internal camera. I recently had the computer upgraded so I could rent FSD. I was somewhat surprised to find it fell back to 'jiggle the wheel' when I was driving on unlit roads - I'd have thought they'd have an IR light in the cabin too.
