> Feature Differences and How to Tell What You Have Is it dog slow when you open the browser or any theater app? Then it’s MCU 2. Other than that there’s not much reason to wonder about the differences if you already own the car…
Good news, notateslaapp says there's no MCU4 on the horizon so we'll get it tomorrow.
If MCU4 exists or is in the pipeline, I expect Cybercab to get it first. Setting aside criticism of wether Tesla will actually launch their service on schedule or if at all, I would expect their robotaxi to get an upgraded MCU simply because if you’re not driving, then they can’t spare expense on entertainment, because what else is there to do.
I’m fully expecting robo taxi to launch in Austin in June (I live in Austin)
I do too, I was just presenting my reasoning in a vacuum.
I wonder if MCU 2 will be compatible with HW4 FSD after retrofitting from HW3 or if they need to retrofit the MCU as well in that case. I think the combo Intel Atom + HW4 currently doesn’t exist in any car
I’m also an employee, I hope we get first dibs on rides
is FSD that good in austin?
Just about as good as anywhere else. Take that as you will
The app is much slower on MCU 2 also. Viewing cameras, etc
It would be cool to get a MCU 3 upgrade, but i have doubts we’ll get the HW4 upgrade anytime soon
I’ve never seen a “Start FSD” button. What’s that about?
NATA say a lot of things, all of it based on some random tweet and can often be wrong, as all rumours can be. They have no secret source of info.
The labelling on that button is a little vague but I could hazard a guess ...
You know what I mean lol. I’ve just never seen it personally or anywhere else.
😂😂
What the other guy said, in some sketchy areas it’s spotty, but in most it’s perfect. I’ve done a few demo drives to test each iteration of FSD and the best (that I’ve tried) was a performance M3 running V13 about two months ago and it had zero flaws and I didn’t feel nervous about any of the maneuvers. Based on the speed of these updates making everything smoother V14 is gonna be way more than 10x better than human drivers, hell my V12.6 m3 is already better than most drivers
It only exists in FSD V13. I bet you have V12.
>Is it dog slow when you open the browser or any theater app? Then it’s MCU 2. On MCU2, I timed it the other day from "I want to resume playing my last show on Netflix" to when playback begins. 1 minute and 2 seconds. (Connected to home wifi to avoid issues with cellular) It's been that way since new. Crazy slow. I reported it and SC said that it was within acceptable times.
I have a 2018 S and today I test drove the new Y: the screen is super fast and responsive. I would totally pay for an upgraded processor for my S.
You calling me broke? Lol 😠
I would absolutely pay for a MCU upgrade. Can we just upgrade the computer part maybe along side a hardware three to hardware 4.5 upgrade?
I love the people that say it’s not a big difference. It’s massive in nearly every single thing. Map renders- faster, music loading- faster, theater apps- insanely faster.
This is the natural order. Someday Ryzen will be dog slow and Intel will be on the ocean floor.
True, but I always felt the Atom chip was dog slow. It never felt fast.
Tbf the Intel Atom line has been slow for as far as I can remember. Had an Atom laptop back in 2010ish and that thing took forever to even open a browser.
Agreed. I had a Chromebook with an atom chip and even that was sluggish.
It only ever felt fast vs. the S/X MCU 1 and 2. I remember when the legacy MCU2 felt super snappy. For a short period of time, the end offerings of MCU1 cars were sold next to the M3 Intel, and it was super quick in comparison. Now, looking back, it was only quick next to something even worse, haha.
Yes!

What makes it even more hopeless is if you close it, it takes you another 1m+ to get back to playing. Even things like scrolling through YouTube is dog slow and jerky. It's slower than a decade old iPad. I know they don't want to eat into new car sales by offering a MCU upgrade option, but they will probably have to much like they did with MCU1.
Eeeeh? There was no time and no universe where a person used an Intel Atom and thought, "wow, this shit is crazy fast".
