It's almost like Tesla has a major refresh of one of their car models that is just around the corner and people are holding off on buying a Tesla so they can get the brand new model.
Or you know, maybe some people are not thrilled with his little stunt on stage. I personally feel he should leave Tesla and let somebody who has more time, take over and really focus on delivering the best cars they can. Who knows, maybe we would get an actual rain sensor instead of relying on a camera.
In Norway sales ov BEVs have increased to 96% of all new cars for January. I think it’s more about Y still not available in all trims. And also the bad media attention
[removed]
It’s probably a combination. We will find out after the refresh becomes available if sales don’t pick up. Working with a lot of Europeans, I find them more aware and sensitive to social signaling than Americans.
Byd is also down lol
Brand damage or people want the new Y?
Or even radar back instead of relying on camera to save a few bucks. So dumb. Going backwards…
If you are referring to Inauguration Day, then that happened 2/3 of the way through the month. I'm doubtful the data supports the hypothesis that sales were doing great until Jan 21st and then dropped off a cliff.
[removed]
Berlin factory only produces model y, with low inventory from Q4 and re-tooling for new model y, not surprised. Less model y to sell, and ppl are waiting for the new model y. But could also be a mixture of that and less ppl are buying tesla. Best way to tell is look at only model 3 sales.
💯
Both.
Q1 is always slowest plus this isn't just due to 1 factor. Many factors like inventory and other stuff
>And also the bad media attention That makes it sound a lot less self-inflicted than it really is. People make excuses but I believe the true sales impact is yet to be seen in full.
Pretty sure Canada sales will do the same if not worse with the disappearing EV credits, the price hike and the bad publicity.
ITS JANUARY FFS. The softest month of the year. We’ve heard this same stupid news story every year for the last 10 years. Seriously, some people need to learn critical thinking.
Oh no! Anyways…
It’s January, always a bad month for automakers, nothing to do with “brand damage” lol
It's fallen back (big) compared to jan '24, while general EV market has grown.
Tesla new car sales are gonna definitely be taking a hit. Used offerings are starting to get pretty cost effective.
Norway saw a 40% drop since last year. Tesla has been top in Norway for Years, now it's third.
[removed]
These metrics are always comparing to the same period in the previous year. So in this case, January 2024. Critical thinking bro.

How about Ford EV? I thought I read sometime ago they layed off thousands due to poor EV sales in Europe.
Because they sell a car with a 5 to 6 k addon
[removed]
Could this mean there might be some good deals on new vehicles?
Why would anyone buy a new Tesla right now when the refresh is almost out lmfao
It must be hard to sell cars when you aren’t making any. All 4 factories are retooling for the new model y. Move along.
I dont care, I love my Tesla and will buy another one 🤩
🤞
Tesla as a brand is done.
[removed]
So true...all the left kids who abandoned twitter found this place to tell their bshit... They are at least funny
I mean I've wanted a tesla and thought they were cool cars in the past but in light of recent events I can't imagine giving a penny of my money to him or his company.
I would be very shocked if they didn’t slump in the US and Canada. He alienated majority of his target market.
It’s gone from bemusement to mild shame in my locality. But a relative just ordered a model 3 so I guess for some it’s not a deal breaker.
Are you European?
Same here, it's such a shame
Sales are down compared to January last year. You're delusional if you don't think there's serious damage to the Tesla brand right now
[deleted]
Aren't we just choosing skins at this point? If all evs are just batteries and wheels?
[deleted]
This doesn’t counter what he mentioned. I’m not saying either statement is true but it’s likely the case people already own those teslas and their next car will not be.
Was December & January when all plants were shut down as they re-tooled for refreshing the the car that contributes to the majority of their sales and is the #1 selling car in the world?
[deleted]
It’s cause of the new y.
> other stuff Small things, like " **all** their model Y production lines being down while they release a new version"
This is about a month old sales, I bet that counts for a very small percentage of the cars you're seeing ;)
Are all cars skins?
I have a Y and will hold on for as long as possible, but for my wife’s next car I’m looking at the R1S.
Last year there were incentives like no interest rates. Now we’re not getting any incentives… do they just not care about less sales?
It’s definitely brand damage or a combination of both. There is no way what he has done hasn’t damaged the brand.
Eh… https://x.com/icannot_enough/status/1887884843163275271?s=46&t=EfoBCjnFAq51VC_34rNeMA
I have loved all four of my teslas. I recently sold my MYLR, cancelled my Cybertruck order, and am considering getting rid of my M3 and getting something else. I personally know others who are doing the same. There is absolutely brand damage.
Engines are different power, liters, sounds and outputs But now I guess yes
naive
Yeah.. lemme see how everyone else is trending as well.
Sound financial decision!
[removed]
Cancelling the Cybertruck order is definitely a sound financial decision
New Model Y Standard Range will be a no brainer 🙈😄
[deleted]
I'm pretty sure this is going to happen in the US as well. We have a 2018 3 and a 2021 Y. We convinced my sister to get a Y in 2023 and we convinced my parents in December a few months ago to get a Lyriq instead. We were eyeing the new Y but due to bad publicity we're now considering a RAV4 Hybrid or Lyriq now. Bad publicity is pretty difficult to undo quickly. And it doesn't seem like he's interesting in doing that. Tesla board needs to get rid of him otherwise the sales will continue to tank everywhere
I would be surprised if he really cares all THAT much. Like he probably doesnt think its a good thing but I am sure he anticipated this.
This is the source of his data. https://eu-evs.com/bestSellers/ALL_HIGH_DQ/Brands/LatestDate I presume the chart shown is from the premium service, but you can make one on your own by scraping the raw data they provide for free.
It’ll slump in Canada because the model 3 went up 9k cad
Don’t buy that shit until they put HW5 and the new MCU in it, I’ll upgrade once they do that and have a fsd transfer window
doesn't Ford loose like $38K for every EV sold?
He only owns about 13% of Tesla. At some point, the other institutional shareholders may revolt b
any day now im sure
I’ve been hearing that for like a decade lmfao
This was actually the second best January ever for Tesla in Norway, a 130% increase of the average for the last 8 years. Of course, that would never make it into a headline. Tesla ships cars mostly in batches by the end of quarters. There are frequent months with almost zero deliveries, January is frequently one of those months. So these statistics, based on a single month are absolutely meaningless.
Dead internet theory
It was also the second best January ever for Tesla. 600% increase from 2023, 1500% increase from 2022.
[deleted]
chart is totally misleading. [https://x.com/ICannot\_Enough/status/1887892203730555260](https://x.com/ICannot_Enough/status/1887892203730555260) according to poster "The 2025 “crash” is just because there’s only one month of data so far in 2025, compared against 12 months of data in all previous years. January sales are low due to seasonality (for all automakers), low December ending inventory levels for Tesla, and Giga Berlin stopping production to retool the line to make the newly refreshed Model Y (the only model that factory makes)."
Tesla Canada has this promotion going on currently on their website: "Promotional rate available for well-qualified buyers with excellent credit who order a new Model 3 between February 6, 2025 and March 7, 2025 and take delivery before April 1, 2025. 0.99% APR for terms up to 48 months, 1.99% APR for terms up to 72 months, 2.99% for 84 months and 3.49% for 96 months." I wouldn't be surprised if they start doing price cuts by the Spring at this rate.
A slump? This is 10x consumers, per entity, who can't buy their UberTrucjen, because it slices pedestrians to little bitty bits in confrontations. So yeah...50 consumers thwarted
Is this trend just with tesla or all ev sales. Is gm, Ford, Volvo and others that sell in Canada increasing or decreasing at similar rates?
Reddit moment.
Don't care. Love the company
>limited to Reddit Could it be that your worldview is limited to what happens in your neighborhood or on Reddit? A lot of people that I know personally are not going to buy another Tesla—and none of them participate in the subreddits here.
Care enough to read the article, be salty and leave a comment.

Why are people hoping for an entire brand, with 140K employees, to go bankrupt when the simple solution is to just kick out the CEO? He's damaging the brand severely so the board can easily do that now.

FAFO
As if😂
I work for Tesla, we are fine
Yeah the data in this article from 5 whole countries is definitely negated by your neighbourhood.
Just a correction that Tesla has about 120,000 employees worldwide.
💯💯💯💯 self inflicted
Sorry, missed a zero, I corrected it. It's 140,000 according to Wikipedia.
"Everything is fine!"
It's down massively compared to 12 months ago too.
Lol Tesla isn't supply limited
They're slumping in *California*
It is, slight slowdown during a slow season, nothing to worry about, really. Plus we’re poised for a great year
I wonder why
120,000 employees? Yeesh. Wasteful spending. The vast majority of them could probably be laid off. Needs to slash the company to the bone to save on costs. What works for the US federal government, can work for Tesla too.
Lolz..try standup seriously
So you aren't worried at all about the top posts on the front page saying we will never buy a Tesla again ?
This is the sort of twisting facts and flim-flamming American politicians do. Most (large?) companies compare their sales from one month to the SAME month the previous year. Comparing this January to the AVERAGE of the previous 8 bears little resemblance to how companies evaluate how things are going. Not only that, but THIS January is a January like no other. Make of it what you will George. LOL
> Tesla board needs to get rid of him otherwise the sales will continue to tank everywhere No, he is worth far more to the company than he is gone. Almost every decision he makes turns out to be the right one. Optimus and FSD will help Tesla grow by a further 10x. You're probably not a shareholder, but I am.
You're on reddit which swings overwhelmingly left if not far left, so the apparent public sentiment is not the real one.
Yes it's done great, and will continue to do so.
The salty ones are the musk haters.
Good luck getting someone with the same vision, such as creating Optimus which will be an insane money spinner.
Nope! It’s a trillion dollar company that outsold Audi, there’s way more people buying Teslas for the first time than those saying they won’t. It’s a fad, I’m confident in a few years no one will care
Reddit on
Same only hope is rivian’s self driving is just as robust as FSD or at least autopilot.
The yoke and firing the entire supercharger team come to mind as not good decisions lately lol
Avoiding the cybertruck depreciation hit is probably the most sound decision they made
Fsd transfer window is really what I'm waiting for
> This was actually the second best January ever for Tesla in Norway, a 130% increase of the average for the last 8 years. Of course, that would never make it into a headline. It would never make it to a headline because it’s such a stupid statistic. 8 years ago there was no model 3/Y and Tesla was still a baby automaker. Ford is also probably doing better this month compared to 100 years ago but that won’t make the headlines either.
In the history of promises, not one has been delivered remotely on time, or even close to his promised scope. "Full driving autopilot", the roadster, 500 mile range cybertruck released in 2021. And there are all promises on cars, which is something in his wheelhouse. Robotics? Lol. The market keeps buying his fake promises to the tune of 177 P/E. That bill will eventually come due.
Most of us don’t want electric cars honestly. Diesel is still the best around
Tesla has no business at this valuation and the cars aren't even that good.
sad thing is...i actually wanted a cybertruck :[ Now there's absolutely no way I'll buy one
He's delivered where it matters. The stock price reflects that. Sometimes he's late sure, so what. Rather have someone who's overly optimistic than pessimistic.

I wrote an **average** of the last 8 years, not compared to 8 years ago. Even compared to average since Model Y was introduced it still up over 100%.
If you have a place to charge the car at home, electric is an absolute no brainer and there is no contest at all. I wake up with a full tank every morning for half the cost of gasoline or diesel and I never have to go to gas stations or even think about refueling. If you don’t have a garage at your home, such as a downtown apartment, then you’re right; EVs lose their main perk. Otherwise, I think it’s overwhelmingly obvious that an electric car is the way, and I won’t even consider a gasoline or diesel car for my next car because I have a garage.

Bummer to hold yourself back from owning the best vehicle there is right now. Wouldn’t want anything else on my driveway right now.
You seem super delusional
We eyed model S a couple years ago but decided for a RAV4 and it is the best decision we made. Toyota cars are really reliable whereas Tesla’s are failing vehicle inspections after four years.
Best vehicle. Lol 😐
That's what people kept saying when Tesla were starting off and there were less than 500 subscribers in the sub. You guys were proven wrong then and I think you'll be proven wrong again.
Let's be real. He can just detach himself publicly, so that people will start to buy Tesla again. But in the shadows he can still pull strings.
Well that's one approach but I don't think its necessary yet.
It's absolutely necessary. He's been fucking up the stock for years.
Disagree. It's grown over 2 orders of magnitude since he took over. Almost no other company had performed as well.
[removed]
It'll pass. Remember we're on reddit, a left to far left site, so outrage appears worse than it really is.
Yup. Prices went up by 9k in Canada
Just sell bud
Yeah no shit, because it’s their top seller now. It’s still a stupid statistic even if you use the average.
Yeah no shit, because it’s their top seller now and came out 4 years ago. It’s still a stupid statistic even if you use the average.
Aren't the stats comparing year over year sales, from the previous January? I'm anxious to see how his behavior impacts sales medium to long term...
The board is stacked in his favor..
What and miss out on the further 10x growth opportunity? You'll be lucky.
95% sure my next car will not be a Tesla
They're small fry in the big scheme of things.
Everyone I know thinking about a Tesla is waiting to see if the new Y is worth it. Didn’t this exact same thing happen with the m3?
Absolute malarkey lmao
No personal integrity eh?
Basing your car decisions over a person is crazy work
"every decision turns out to be the right one" ::points to cyber truck:: And what do you call.....this....?
FSD transfer is a no brainer 100%. Only time ill ever consider upgrading
Capable and fun. Name a better vehicle then?
Fun does not equal well built. Jeeps are fun. Would I ever own one? Hell no
lol thanks for oversharing
my FIL has a 25 RAV4 hybrid... you'll love it...it's a nice car

Probably has a much higher resale value than the Tesla. Model Y resale value is trash. Thanks Elno.
\> we convinced my parents in December a few months ago to get a Lyriq Kind of a bad time to be buying an EV with a dying charging connector
Tesla has always been supply-limited. If they weren't, you'd be seeing them cutting into their 30%+ margins with discounts like they sometimes do during end of quarter sales pushes
Not really. They gave us a free adapter + 12 months of free charging. It's been fantastic, they love it
Good thing they’re not a car company
You're right nobody will care because they'll be happy with their BYD.
Just get a normal Tesla. It won't attract all the negative attention that the cybertruck now does.
LMAO okay
So many out there
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
Also other brands have been catching up FAST, a few years ago Tesla was far more ahead efficiency-wise
So now Tesla produces cars in batches like muffins? Car factories are like oil refineries - every minute the factory is running, finished cars are coming out. Or are you saying Tesla holds them back until the end of the quarter so they can sell them at a margin-killing discount?
Google "Tesla sales collapse" for multiple reporting from everywhere from The Financial Times to car specific media. Every single large market in Europe and Australia saw a crazy drop in Tesla sales in January. Even China is starting to see a decline and I didn't expect that. I did with the others.
You don't need a garage. Just an offroad house adjacent parking spot. In fact for safety I wouldn't put an ev in an attached garage.
Just Tesla.
Fords ev business is down 39% in 2024 Stellantis ev sales is down 15% in 2024 VW down 4% BMW, GM, and Volvo ev business had increases. So no, it wasn't just tesla.
Literally anything else.
I wonder why
Man is this idolatry?
To be fair it is uuuuugly.
USAID will buy them for third world countries
So if you're so confident, why don't you short them? We all know why.
Yoke, getting rid of lidar, getting rid of USS, getting rid of indicator stalks, firing the whole supercharger team, and building whatever the Cybertruck is for only the NA market rather than a small hatchback that the world is screaming out for. "FSD" that is always one year away. Yea great moves.
Also known as lying.
Chinese cars at the same price point are better.
Its basically the same as the "old" Model Y, they could just drive that and it will be a near identical experience.
Why do you care how sales go?
All small fry other than FSD, where Tesla leads the competition by miles. They don't have to be perfect or quick with FSD, just sooner to market than everyone else.
No lying implies intentional deceit. Being naive or optimistic is not the same.
Ill use that one the next time I'm home late from the pub. "I intended to be home in time for dinner at 19:00 but I accidentally stayed out until 00:00 as I met some old mates" Will see how that goes down with the wife. Some things he has said are just complete flat out lies. Like when he said owning a Tesla is owning an appreciating asset.
What do you mean? Teslas automotive gross margin has been declining every single quarter since Q1 22 where it was 29.1%. They are now down to 16%. They also have been producing more than they are delivering for a while now.
I'm curious to see how the lack of sales will (or will not) impact the stock price. This is a company that hasn't profited much yet its stock remains high.
Thats typically how "tech" companies go.
Are you a bot?
Look at the gross margin of their competitors in the auto industry. Car manufacturing has always been an extraction racket between the manufacturers and the dealers with razor thin margins, Tesla has more Apple-like margins until recently. They’re not gonna sit on inventory, they’ll just cut prices like they did last time. They have room to cut; big auto is selling at a loss and subsidizing
Don't be ridiculous.
I’m being completely serious.
Yes, I'm aware.
your are aming to buy a car - so buy a car based on the features - RAV4 Hybrid? going back to a ICE car.. it is not a wise decision at all
"it's not a wise decision at all" Why not? CA has the most expensive electricity in the States. Literally I pay 47 cents per Kilowatt to charge overnight. *That's more expensive than Tesla supercharges* Even using Teslas own gas saving math, it says I don't save any money at all. Not to mention, Toyota makes significantly more reliable cars.
although Toyota hybrid system is reliable ü Tesla's system is way more better - with a new Y for sure. but good luck with the annoying engine noise.
The Lyriq and the Ionic are both great cars.
No. You're just used to the lefty reddit hive mind.
Not really. You can go on r/conservative and see people talking normally. But the way you talk and act is extremely odd. Makes me think you aren’t real. If you’re not a bot, then why are you acting like a bot? You should really think about that.
Same as prices have gone up I have found myself borrowing a family members car that gets ~45 mpg. I don't think I will be getting another EV for a while tbh.
Mach-E is worth a look as well
It would have been so easy to do immediately after, but it's hard to have the gesture serve as a dog whistle and condemn it at the same time.
GOOD
They ship boats, not cars one by one.
[removed]
Not true. Never banned anyone and the deleted comments are due to automod, almost never me.
In what way do I act like a bot? Just because I don't hate Elon?
Why, you're against the exposure of ludicrous and corrupt government spending?
I hope the stock price drops a lot and never recovers. That would be very funny.
Tesla never had LiDAR.
My bad they removed radar.
Because you are supporting a private company unconditionally without any critical thought, and your posts appear to be trying to drive engagement while you keep inserting right-wing politics unprompted. I never said SHIT about politics. That was all you. Idk, if you aren’t a bot, then I would really question how you are acting online.
Investors decide who sits on the board
Its just because people are waiting New MODEL Y, nothing surprising.
Tesla has worse margins than many other car manufacturers. Kia, Hyundai, Subaru, Stellantis, Mercedes, Toyota, they all have better margins.
Because they have released zero proof of any of that? They just keep posting twitter comments about “fraud,” but haven’t actually proven that there is any. If there is actually fraud then they need to be able to rigorously prove it in a court of law.
I guess the investors are not falling for Elonhole's hype about 2025 and 2026 will be ballistic.
No. But that isn’t what he is doing. He is unilaterally and illegally dismantling entire government agencies. It’s violates separation of powers, the impoundment act, and a whole slew of others things. The courts are finally weighing in with orders for them to stop. He has no idea what he is doing and is simply taking an axe to entire aspects of the federal government. Even if you approved of the results (which you shouldn’t) you should be appalled by the blatantly unconstitutional power grab. You cannot take Elons word on what is waste and what isn’t. He doesn’t even know what he is looking at or the purpose behind things. Source: I’m a lawyer.

Do you own google research -- nobody is denying any of these projects existed. So again - you support this utterly corrupt and collossal waste of tax money?
Any another thing - what is unconstitutional about the President firing FEDERAL employees? You literally just repeat every talking point the MSM feeds you. Pathetic.
Nobody elected him and a lot of people don't trust that he is acting in good faith. He was already caught openly lying about multiple examples of what he called "waste and fraud". It is the job of congress to allocate and approve spending. Not some foreigner that the president happens to like.
Yes, but reality has a left wing bias
>Bad publicity is pretty difficult to undo quickly. Oh, there's something Tesla could do to fix it pretty quick.
The irony here is ironic................. defending wasteful/fraudulent spending is the epitome of low IQ.
😂😅🤣
NOOO LEAVE THE CORRUPT GOVT SPENDING ALONE
They say "blatantly unconstitutional" but they can never explain why....
Tesla have been ditched as an option at my and my wife's work salary sacrifice lease scheme in the uk. Official reasons for both is Tesla is being whooped on price by Mercedes, VW and BMW. She was originally going to order a Tesla, but a BMW i7 was coming in at £100 a month cheaper.
I pay 10.9 cents overnight and I live in California. All utilities should be public.
I hate PGE as much as Luigi hates United Health
We need to elect people that will get the utilities back under public control. But they've brainwashed people to believe sOciAliSm is eeevvviiiiilllll!
Umm.. Tesla dropped way higher than any other competitor. Will continue to do so if he keeps running his mouth.
Grow some balls and say 99.99% like disinfectants. :P
97?😂
Yep. I’m in the market for a new car too — 10 years ago it would have been a Tesla for sure…nowadays I wouldn’t be caught dead in one.
I wish they offered 0.99 on the new model y.
EVs in general. Tesla sales were down 70% in the last month or quarter, BUT EV sales were down 79%. So Tesla actually gained market shares in the EV segment. https://apple.news/AmRVcXknKQUuNWGMI47pa1Q
No. Tesla is actually doing better than other Manufacturers in Canada. Tesla sales were down 70% in the last month of 2024, BUT EV sales were down 79%. So Tesla actually gained market shares in the EV segment. https://apple.news/AmRVcXknKQUuNWGMI47pa1Q
No, actually they dropped less. EVs in general. Tesla sales were down 70% in the last month or quarter, BUT EV sales were down 79%. So Tesla actually gained market shares in the EV segment. https://apple.news/AmRVcXknKQUuNWGMI47pa1Q
Assumed it was the same as in Europe and Australia where ev sales are steady but Tesla has dropped severely. Can't see Tesla improving anytime soon in Canada or elsewhere. Even China seems to be stalling for them. And that's before the potential trade war.
Why
Because he's not really confident in his views.
I sold all my shares that I’ve been holding since 2015. That’s confidence enough. I’m not going to short it because if you understand how options works, even a good play can go against you. It literally gambling.
He bought the US election.
They already tried to get me to go tests drive twice in less than a month. Even though I said I'm not planning on buying a Tesla again after the first message. Also tried twice to reach my wife. They never did that since I bought my first 3 in 2019. Pretty sure the inventory starts to pile up.
Sometimes sarcasm is hard to spot, but I really hope this was like that. But admittedly your post was a great caricature of what the Muskbots and bootlickers are like here on Reddit nowdays.
If they're a share owner...they're going to want to know if their investment is fucked. If you're a car owner, of a car that needs A LOT of technology, you're going to need your car manufacturer to succeed because the level of support required to maintain complex, semi-autonomous technology is back breaking. If the company does VERY poorly over the next ten years we're going to see a LOT of lawsuits as older models will get decommissioned significantly sooner than one would expect.
It takes some special arrogance to laugh at a competitor that grew 41% while you declined 1% with less than half the deliveries in absolute terms.
To my knowledge BYD isn’t even in the top ten of EV sales in Europe, because they mainly sell to China, whereas Tesla is still at the top
