Not gonna lie, this is basically what I’m waiting on to switch to a different car. The supercharger network is unparalleled but I would prefer a different manufacturer.
And with that, I’m no longer on the fence between Merc and Tesla. Charging accessibility was the only thing stopping me from going that route. Otherwise, I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the new Model Y.
same, waiting for bmw to announce this and ship NACS with the i4 later this year and my Y will be traded in
Now they just need to start shipping with NACS standard. Also, that app looks like shit.
Can we do all Teslas get free supercharging ? i know it’s gonna cost alot but if tesla does energy right it will be so appealing to get a tesla because of it.
There’s barely chargers for Tesla drivers in Canada
Just know you will pay more to charge than Tesla does.
Mercedes driver here, The car have been able to unofficially charge since GM announcement. But to those headed to MB just know the cars and support is very much a closed system. MBUX (in car) and Mercedes app along with Plug and Charge doesn’t work with superchargers yet. This is in-dealer update. If you have any other question about EQ vehicles I’d be happy to chat
Just you wait…
Sadly this is true for me. The EA, ChargePoint, etc. chargers are subpar at best and straight up broken at worse. If there were a rival network on the same or better level for the cars, I’d have a different EV
You will do 90% of charging at home if you have a charger installed and 80% of all charging at home at night when you are asleep. Free supercharge makes very little difference.
You're underestimating how many people get Teslas without access to chargers at home, especially in large cities. I know so many people in Los Angeles who live in apartments without any access to charging in the building. Going to a Supercharger is just part of their weekly routine.
I said “if” I have made no assumptions about who or who does not have a home charger installed nor I have made any statements or proclamations about how many people do or do not have a charger.
Does Mercedes have a plan to make superchargers plug & play, and if so, when?
This has been my experience as well - but I will do a 6ish hour road trip a couple times a year and a 3-4 hour drive to visit family each month. The supercharger is still a necessity and something I have to plan around.
Yeah if you going long distances you need to charge along the way. The newer superchargers are excellent though, if you have kids with you then the car can be finished charging before you have watered and fed the kids.
Person 1: Free charging would be great. You: Free charging doesn't matter if you can charge at home. Me: You're underestimating how many people can't charge at home. I thought this was a pretty straightforward and friendly exchange?
You’re the one trying to tell me my opinion, how’s it going?
What opinion am I telling you that you have?
Well it’s hard to follow when you keep changing your posts.
What on earth are you talking about? I haven’t edited anything. This is by far the most bizarre exchange I’ve ever had on this site.
Supercharger Plug and Charge is expected to be available by Q1 25. This roll out was suppose to start yesterday but pushed due to inconsistent results. In my experience there have been handshake issues with initial build V3 sites with improper reporting.
Okay

How does MB handle maintenance on EQ vehicles? Are they just as aggressive or is it reasonable? I loved my E350, but the maintenance was a killer.
It’s very dealer dependent, but rather poor overall due to lack of training and available knowledge. For example an internal malfunction can be claimed as external damage, and it unfortunately falls on the user to prove them wrong. At least in NorCal and CO over the last 2 years I’ve had the difficult experience to train and clarify dealers so these regions it should be somewhat reasonable. Mercedes dealers still don’t like to update vehicles which is an uphill battle.
Grreaaaaaaattttt

MB EVs are pretty cheap for a lease and much better build quality and fit/finish over a Y.
Yeah, but you'd rarely ever use a charger outside of your house anyway. For road trips, it's fine
Yup, rarely. I got 3 months of free supercharging when I bought my M3. I used it once just to try it out, and a 2nd time when I did a day trip. So really I’ve used it once out of necessity in 2 months.
When are non Tesla vehicles coming out with NACS ports? That's what I want to see.
I am on the fence about MB’s ancient software and its quality.
Tesla offers a $12.99 plan to get the same pricing as Tesla drivers. It’s definitely worth it if you drive long distances at least once a month.
V3s are pretty rare though, no? I personally haven't even seen one but I have only had a Tesla for a couple years. Are the 'regular' superchargers an issue? Not sure what the terminology is, but the superchargers seen at the majority of stations.
V3 and V3+ are pretty common site now they’ve been deploying them since 2021 Feb. V2 and Urban superchargers are not accessible since Tesla can’t bill us, in Tesla world Tesla cars bill you and not the station themselves.
I just looked it up, the [V3 superchargers](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/dc/Tesla_Supercharger_station%2C_West_Hillsdale_Blvd%2C_San_Mateo_4.jpg/800px-Tesla_Supercharger_station%2C_West_Hillsdale_Blvd%2C_San_Mateo_4.jpg) are the stations I was calling 'regular' as they're deployed at basically every supercharger I have ever visited. Mercedes has issues with these currently, eh? Once it gets sorted, will they rely on the Tesla app to charge or will there be some sort of in car control/payment system?
Important detail to note is V3 and V2 stations may see relatively similar 10 feet away. V2 has a thicker cable and is twin power shared (75kW peak when adjacent pair in use A & B stalls) and not compatible with non Tesla vehicles V3 and later are quad power shared with peak of 250kW cumulatively - Shared between A, B, C & D stalls this is compatible with Non Tesla vehicles Once you go to dealer and software update your Mercedes EQ you’d be able use Plug and Charge and billing will be handled via ChargePoint account. Or you can start charging via MBUX (vehicle screen) or Mercedes app. Currently you can use you can share at SC with the Tesla app to start charging.
When you made that wish, you didn’t say only now look how the new CLA is gonna be.
Come again?
New CLA is gonna have NACS for DC J1772 for AC
So what do I need to do so I can charge at a Tesla station?
Get the NACS adapter from MB dealer for $185 and open Tesla app hit the menu button on the right side top of the screen and add your Mercedes vehicle, tap on ‘Find your charger’ and you’d be able to charge at those locations. You can also get a software update for your EQ vehicle at the Mercedes dealer workshop to get billing and list of compatible superchargers in your car’s display and Mercedes App
I have a adapter already. Do I need to get the specific one? I used it before to charge at home chargers
You need the new adapter, the one you have is for AC charging like in home and hotels. This is for DC charging at Superchargers.
Got it. Mind ELI5 what makes the adapters different? Guess I’ll call my dealer. Actually amazed at how bad they handle EVs
The current adapter you have is for the AC - this is the round part of your charge port - named J1772. This is for home, office and hotel charging - the charging voltage is 120-240V. It takes about 7-8 hrs to charge your vehicle from dead to 80% @ 9.6kW max. The adapter you already own is the inverse of what Tesla proves with their vehicles. The new adapter, the one the enables DC charging would have two additional pins - the flat oval at the bottom of your charge port. This enables you to use superchargers which charger at roughly 400V. These are what you’d use when you are taking longer trip where you might not have over night charging and you’d be able to charge to 0 to 80% in about 32mins at 180kW max.

Got it! So in theory my adapter could work in a worse case scenario just not charge at full speed?
No, your adapter can only work at tesla destination chargers which are at homes, offices & hotels. It doesn’t have the right pins to charger at Tesla superchargers.
Yeah wait for 1 hour
The Lucid Gravity and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are both shipping with NACS now. I haven't heard of any other vehicles that are but hopefully more will come soon.
made worse by super short cables and many of these non-tesla cars taking up two spots because of the charge port location
What about scheduled maintenance? Does MB push prepaid maintenance on their EVs like they do on their ICE cars?
Yes like for like, but the checks are rudimentary but at the same prices.
Yeah mental. Even at 2am there’s only 1 stall available. Nonsense
Should I buy adapter from Lectron or Mercedes?
This sounds like such a headache, so glad we have CCS2 in Europe. We have been able to use Supercharges for a few years now. I drive a Renault Zoe and Supercharges work fine with no extra hassle.
It is.
Use V2's lol No non Teslas allowed, and not much slower on my m3 RWD lol
Is it free now to charge my EQE at Tesla supercharger or I have to pay and I can use my own charger I got from amazon or I have to buy only from Mercedes dealership to be eligible
