FINALLY 12.5.4 has been trash on my 2017 S. Constant phantom braking with shadows or puddles or empty crosswalks, constant speed up/slow downs for absolutely no good reason (you can see constant throttle blips on the screen) and it feels like a drunk Uber driver. No idea if 12.6 is going to improve this, but I honestly don’t see how it could be any worse. While it had its own issues, I’ve yearned for the 12.3.6 days. I should also add that 12.5.4 was not nearly as bad on our 2021 Y and I find 12.6 on the Y to be quite good, but neither are anything compared to 13.2 on our truck - that is on another level of smoothness, accuracy, and confidence. I can only imagine how good it must be on the newest 3/Ys where it just seems to be more polished and aware of their own size.
Should be interesting to see what the experience is like there.
I have a question, maybe directed to an OG such as yourself. My car is currently on 2024.44.25.2 and a few days ago my FSD subscription expired and I didn't renew it. The car downloaded 2024.45.32.2 but I did NOT install it. I just subscribed to FSD again in hopes to get the new 2024.45.32.5 update instead. Can I just sit on my existing version and hope the car gets rid of the pending install and it will download the new 32.5 version?
My understanding, from others who have been in a similar boat, is that the recommendation here is to go to the service menu and tell it to reinstall the existing software, that'll force it to do a new software update check, and you *might* get the newer FSD version. Beyond that, the guidance I've always seen is "You get what you get. If you choose not to install it, that's still what you got".
That's a good one. I haven't actually seen that tip before even though I lurk quite a bit. Thank you I'll give that a try.
I'm on both Reddit and X, I can't remember where I saw the guidance, but the logic is sound. Actual results may vary.
Does anybody know if it includes A.S.S?
And Europe?
My model Y speeds like crazy on 12.6.1, even if I've turned the setting from the default 40% (!!!!) to 5%. And sadly, it seems to be worse the lower the speed limit is.

Why do you keep saying that?
Users aren't going to ban themselves.
Huh. My 21 myp won't even go the speed limit on hurry. 12.6.1 has been an absolute mess.
yes
Some of these “legacy” cars were delivered less than a year ago as a new vehicle.
Thankfully this is fixed with 13.x
The question though is will hw3 ever see 13.x
Do you have it set to hurry?
I'm on chill.
Oh wow
12.6.1 is amazing on my Model Y HW3. All the issues I encountered on my commute with 12.5 have been fixed. The car feels much more confident. But it seems like the results are not as good for some owners.
This. I had the same issue & i did this, the pending update disappeared & within 24hrs (that’s how frequently car checks for an update) i got 2024.45.25.2
Still terrible for me in my model X. It can’t even drive around my HOA without it telling me to take over immediately.

Not excusing bad automation, but you should be able to use the scroll wheel to cap the speed at maximum, right? We have a few 25MPH streets that always have cops on them, so while in many cases it’s probably OK to go 30ish, our locals seem to have a knack for 26MPH, so I just use the scroll wheel. Hopefully this intervention makes its way back to Tesla, but I doubt it.
Yes, but this is something I am not accustomed to doing and have caught myself speeding a few times already! Luckily the cops haven't found me yet.
Yeah totally makes sense. Back in the dark ages of Autopilot, all speed control could be manually overridden and the car would GENERALLY do whatever you told it to do - it would go 90MPH in a 25MPH if you used the right scroll wheel. Then they said humans and all input is error and took away that ability. Then we revolted and said the attempted first implementation left a lot of holes and required more intervention. Then Tesla AI relented and gave us back at least SOME control in the form of a hard cap (though NOT a minimum, which of course can be increased by the accelerator pedal, but it won’t necessarily stay at that speed).
no thats not correct, by legacy they talk about the intel based cars, so mcu2 which i think got changed in 2020
Awesome! I've been holding on 2024.26.7 / FSD 12.3.6 from reports of how bad FSD 12.5 was on my 2017 S. Hoping this is a good one and I can finally update.
Early 2022, if I recall correctly, for Model 3 & Y vehicles made in USA. Late 2021 for China-made vehicles.
in this post they were talking about HW3 Model 3. Which someone could have taken delivery of in late Jan or early feb 2024(depending on inventory by state)
Ah yes - I think Instinct043 and I were confusing the MCU2 > MCU3 and FSD HW3 > HW4 transitions.
How are you that off with your info lmao
The logic isn’t sound if the results vary, lol. It’s very much a you get what you get situation
My friend has the same issue with her 2017 Model S. Turns out her front cameras were dirty inside the windshield. There was a haze film that had formed over the years. She’ll get it cleaned soon. Recommending doing so.
Oh that’s interesting and something I’m aware of on the newer vehicles (off gassing from the interior, supposedly?, but mine look pretty darn clear right now, especially compared to the truck. Maybe a good weekend project for when the weather warms up. I should also note that I may have gotten overly excited when I saw “legacy” as (was pointed out by a few posts) this could also mean 2023 refreshed S/X. Us mega old folks may be waiting a good while longer for our update.
Which year\`s model Y? I got 12.6.1 on my 2023 HW3 and it just as bad as V11.4.4. it even drives 10mph on the city street with a S route. Safety disengagement almost happen every minute.
Well the tweet literally says: Tesla FSD v12.6.2 has now started rolling out to legacy Model S/X vehicles with the Intel MCU for the first time
Still waiting for 13 on hw3. The price of being an early supporter …
I feel this. Same
I also have a 2017 and it's hot trash. 12.3.6 was WAY better for me as well. The phantom braking literally scares me at times and I have to constantly press the accelorator to keep speed.
12.3.6 was sooo good. Smart call by you
Mine is 2022 HW3. I was about to give up on 12.5 because of phantom braking galore and jerky behavior on green light, plus a bunch of mishap picking lanes. However, this 12.6 is really night and day different for me.
No. "Legacy" means specific the vertical screen which was replaced during the refresh in 2021.
Good, 12.5 is way too slow.
That’s fair, this is also the update that adds HW3 Model 3 compatibility. Tesla might not call it legacy but they’ve started treating it that way.
Honestly mine was just as bad, and i realized when i bright in my S to shop and they gave me a Model 3 hw3 on 12.5 for the next few days which was so much less jerky. It turns out the coaxial cable from one of my cameras was faulty and it drives a lot better now, still some jerking though
I’ve waited this long so I guess at this point I’ll just hold my breath til our 2017 S gets 12.6 before making additional tweaks. I just did about 45 min of around town with our HW3 2021 Y on 12.6.1 and it’s very good, not even close to the number of interventions or takeovers of the 2017 on 12.5.4. Again, 12.6 is still far below the capability and smoothness of 13.2.4 on the truck (only HW4 I can compare to), so folks describing 12.6 as “v13 mini” or “v13 lite” are accurate.
I have this on a one year old model y. I’m wondering if some material in the housing is off gassing and forming a film. There’s some kind of film in front of both cameras. I was planning to try to take it apart and clean it this weekend.
My 2021 Tesla Model Y Dual Motor is Intel and HW3.5 and I’m patiently waiting for 12.6.2
Legacy means pre-redesign on X & S. A lot of Mercedes parts in those cars as opposed to mostly Tesla parts in everything else. Model S switched in early 2021, X in late 2021. The cars with vertical screens vs horizontal.
Just experienced phantom braking and trying to change lanes despite nobody else on the interstate. Hoping I get 12.6 on my 2022 MYLR soon
The Model Y not a legacy model.
No a legacy model.
Also pre HW 3, like HW 2.5, that were upgraded to 3 with the purchase of FSD.
Ahh I see thanx I’m still stuck on 12.5.4.2 😢 but it actually seems to work pretty good in my vehicle since I put RainX OG formula on all the cameras which has really helped ice and snow
13.2 is already out? What's the latest latest model? Very glad to hear 13+ is doing well. What's the point of Tesla continuing to even test and release the 12.x versions then? Is it just that 13.x versions are still on limited release?
Without going into a ton of detail, at its core, Tesla has indicated version 13 has been trained on data from and tailored to HW4 cars - The newest Model 3 and Y, S/X, and Cybertruck. HW3 has lower resolution cameras and the dedicated processor runs much slower. Unfortunately there are a LOT more HW3 cars in the wild than HW4, so one only needs to read between the lines that HW3 cars may not have enough compute capability to offer “unsupervised” FSD, or at easy, the method the Tesla AI team is using to get there isn’t working. Thus we have the newest cars on HW4 performing incredibly well on v13, but it doesn’t seem (currently) possible to run v13 on HW3, thus they’re continuing to improve and refine and optimize v12. I think the general consensus is either they’re going to need to find some magical optimizations for HW4 code to be able to run on HW3, or Tesla will need to engineer and offer hardware retrofits, or Tesla is going to admit it’s never going to happen for HW3 and offer some sort of parting gift like lifetime transfer of FSD or a discount on a new vehicle type of thing.
My 2020 model x still has 12.5, any idea why it’s not getting an update (HW3)
I’m still on 12.5.X as well. Slow rollout I’m sure. Elon is always lots of talk then a ton of delay. Big disconnect between what he says and it actually happening.
True, cool good to know it’s not just something up with my car then. Thanks.
No it’s literally almost ALL legacy cars that are stuck and 12.5.X is hot trash. 12.3.6 was so impressive so this last 4-5 months with 12.5 has been very rough.
These slow rollouts are so frustrating. But I suppose required. They should allow rollbacks.
I would love that for when it’s a clear regression. Phantom braking all the time and having to constantly press the gas to keep speed isn’t progress
Still haven’t gotten anything 2018 3P
> with the purchase of FSD Or EAP! Little known hack; they will upgrade 2.5 to 3 for EAP owners as well.
Adding a data point. Got this in my 2018 S two days ago, and it is monumentally better. More importantly is it’s no longer doing the mini stuttering stops that were seriously freaking me and my passengers out. That was such a big problem that I am amazed that even made production. The only thing I am not sure and fond of right now is how the max speed offset is entirely determine by autopilot now, instead of being able to just set the max traveling speed. Having said that, just a huge sign of relief that insane stuttering and phantom braking seems to have been resolved.
love to hear that part. Still on 12.5.X here and waiting for something that doesn't scare the shit out of me randomly.
Anybody get their update yet? I have a 2020 X and I’m still waiting for an update.
2017 S and nothing still
Finally got it, tonight
Congrats!!!!!
Oh shit……I got it too!!!!!
Is the Intel MCU MCU one or mcu2?
Intel mcu is mcu2
I also have a 2018S and have been reluctant to install -- because FSD on interstate highways is good with 12.5 (even though local roads are crap). Do you get good results on interstates (divided limited access highways)?
Smart. I would love to have 12.3.6 back. It was great on my 2018 S. Everything since has been crap.
