Must not support my watch as it doesnt show up even after the app update. Good thing I have a new one coming for Christmas lol.

andy2na 2024-12-03 23:24

Because it gets mentioned in every thread about the Apple Watch getting Tesla key support. Drive Electric allows your wearOS watch (primarily for Android phones) to add it as a key to the car (utilizes Bluetooth (like your phone key)) and allows tap to unlock (like the key card): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=no.klokkprojects.driveelectricfortesla

Helvetica_Neue 2024-12-03 23:26

Your watch needs to run WatchOS 11 … which has just pushed me over the edge to upgrade my Series 5.

jpbcx43 2024-12-03 23:28

Now if only we can figure out a way to change the icon at the bottom left. I’d prefer a trunk shortcut vs the frunk. Don’t want to fat finger it.

kingmathers313 2024-12-03 23:28

I can see the car but cannot control (unlock etc.) from the Apple watch. It's telling me a car update is required, I am currently on 2024.44.3.1.

[deleted] 2024-12-03 23:30

If you try to do anything on the app, it says “vehicle software update required” which sounds like 33.40 while I have 33.35 so hopefully get the update soon.

AmbitiousFunction911 2024-12-03 23:31

Really wish Tesla would offer a retrofit for Legacy to support keycard and phone as key.

Egg57aaa 2024-12-03 23:49

It installs on my watch S10, but not on my wife’s watch S8. We both have iPhone 16 Pro Max. And, all software is updated to the latest versions (iOS, WatchOS & iOS Tesla app)? Anybody else having trouble? Workarounds?

ConfidentImage4266 2024-12-03 23:51

Firstly, try rebooting the phone first, then the Apple Watch. If that does not fix it, download any random app from the App Store directly from the watch. Then, on the iPhone Watch app, the Tesla app should appear.

Control is part of the holiday update which hasn’t began rolling out yet. Gotta wait for that.

SpaceCadetHS 2024-12-04 00:10

everyone on 2024.44 hasn’t been able to use it. the holiday update hasn’t been released yet.

matthewmspace 2024-12-04 00:21

Glad the update is out. But I guess we gotta wait for the holiday update for the Watch app to function.

henh2o 2024-12-04 00:23

time for a new car ;)

AmbitiousFunction911 2024-12-04 00:30

Honestly, don’t really feel like I’m missing out on much other than a few things like that. But still like my legacy key fobs (minus the batteries dying without much notice). Have driven 2024 models many times at this point and not enough to entice me to upgrade yet.

atrain728 2024-12-04 00:32

Locking the phone in the car is back on the menu

bartonkt 2024-12-04 00:34

Sonofa

bmth310 2024-12-04 00:37

Just create a shortcut and tell Siri to open your trunk

ConfidentImage4266 2024-12-04 00:45

Hey guys I’m really sorry for the confusion. My watch is on watchOS 11, the tesla watch app might not appear for those still on watchOS 10. If you have the option to update and your Apple Watch supports it, definitely go for it! Secondly, if you’re having issues with the tesla app not appearing or downloading, here’s a quick fix: download any random free app from the Watch App Store. Once it’s installed, go back to the Watch app on your iPhone, and the update should show up.

TheManInTheShack 2024-12-04 00:57

You may have to restart your watch to get it to show up. That’s what it took for me. Also, once you launch it, it will ask you to bring your phone nearby. I had to do that a couple of times and then it said there was no product selected. At that point I went back to the app list, tapped on the Tesla app icon again and this time it came up with my car selected.

TheManInTheShack 2024-12-04 00:58

I had to reboot my watch.

Egg57aaa 2024-12-04 01:03

Thanks. I did all that. The Tesla app shows up in the IPhone Watch app indicating that it is ready to install. When I hit the button to install it, it spins bit, but it does not install… Strange!

Egg57aaa 2024-12-04 01:04

We’ll try a second watch reboot

Joey6543210 2024-12-04 01:11

I also wish there is a way to customize it. The most used function for me is Climate and Trunk.

EljayDude 2024-12-04 01:12

Mostly. It shows charging status and so forth which isn't such a bad thing. But yeah mostly it's just so you'll already have the app in place by the time the car supports it.

deanylev 2024-12-04 01:13

Yes first time I've ever considered upgrading from my Series 4. Hard to justify for just this though

sidious911 2024-12-04 01:16

Is this true for watch as key too? Does that automatically work or is there another setup step? I don’t see anything about it in the app after updating.

SpaceCadetHS 2024-12-04 01:18

Fairly sure we’ll need to wait for that as well

Helvetica_Neue 2024-12-04 01:19

I actually got all the way to the confirm order button and then walked away. I have to think. For me it’s not even THIS FEATURE that is making me want to upgrade, it’s more that I don’t like knowing that I’m missing out on this and future features because my watch can no longer get updates.

schaudhery 2024-12-04 01:32

I have a Series 8 and 16 Pro. The icon was spinning in the Watch app but when I opened the list of apps on my watch I saw the progress circle and it just moves really slow. After 5 minutes it finished.

matthewmspace 2024-12-04 01:33

Yep. It’s just funny.

jayplus707 2024-12-04 02:02

Sitting on an Apple Watch S5 and iPhone 12….At some point I’ll pull the trigger, just can’t get myself to….

TheBurtReynold 2024-12-04 02:14

So, is unlock … - Automatic (i.e., proximity, works in background) Or - Manual (i.e., need to open app, tap)

audioman1999 2024-12-04 02:26

Finally! Tesla is also available as a complication. Displays the current state of charge.

audioman1999 2024-12-04 02:31

Hopefully it will ask for a confirmation (just like the iPhone app)if you aren't close to the car. I find the frunk button more useful because it doesn't have a button on the car like the trunk.

audioman1999 2024-12-04 02:32

I would expect it to be automatic just like the iPhone. I guess we'll find out.

TheBurtReynold 2024-12-04 02:45

As of few years ago, Apple Watch didn’t support the required background Bluetooth modes (too much power use) … hoping NFC changed that (at least on newer model Watch)

stefanbayer 2024-12-04 02:52

Does the Apple Watch Tesla app use Ultra Wide Band (UWB) to connect to the Tesla and securely exchange the keys? Also does unlock the Tesla by proximity work like a hotel or Apple Home key, so even when the phone is shut down/ has no power anymore?

andycarson8 2024-12-04 02:58

Any clue why Tesla decided this needs WatchOS 11 instead of 10?

Quin1617 2024-12-04 03:00

You can’t get fobs for the newer models? I’d probably always use my phone/watch but the fobs are cool imo.

OlorinDK 2024-12-04 03:05

I’m wondering if it would actually be quicker(and more comfortable) to find and open the app on the watch and then pressing the open turn button rather than opening the app on the phone and doing it, or, even better to me, using a Siri shortcut with voice or just pressing the button on the trunk? I don’t expect I’ll personally use the app directly, probably will mostly just use it as an extra key.

shellacr 2024-12-04 03:20

11 has support for ultra wideband keys, could be that. https://9to5mac.com/2024/07/02/these-watchos-11-features-are-exclusive-to-select-apple-watch-models/

pw5a29 2024-12-04 03:32

you're waiting for 2024.44.25

deanylev 2024-12-04 03:42

Yeah sucks because the Series 4/5 are perfectly good otherwise, I don't care about any of the new hardware features

GCDubbs 2024-12-04 03:58

How did you get the complication? I can’t seem to find it

andycarson8 2024-12-04 04:06

Makes sense, thanks. Only reason to upgrade to a newer watch, and I always have my phone on me regardless so its not a large enough reason to for me.

Xitler-1984 2024-12-04 04:42

It’s only available for Watchos 11.0 which is for apple watch 6 or newer series

stebuu 2024-12-04 04:49

I’m sad that it looks like seat heat controls will continue to get minimal love from Tesla.

AAGism 2024-12-04 05:05

That’s just for HomeKey right? Prior to WatchOS 11 the UWB for the digital car key feature worked. Since this is app based instead of wallet based I’m not sure the watch will utilize UWB for access, likely just Bluetooth. Not sure of any 3rd party apps that use UWB on the watch.

AAGism 2024-12-04 05:12

Since this isn’t implementing the digital car key standard the assumption is it has to be Bluetooth via background app for passive entry right? I wasn’t aware of any 3rd party watch app that could utilize nfc without having an entry in apple wallet? I also wasn’t aware of any changes to the limitation of background Bluetooth modes on the watch but something must have changed if the app allows for passive entry. Really wish they just implemented the wallet standard instead of going app based.

docjwz 2024-12-04 05:13

what earliest apple watch will it support? even apple watch 1st one support this?

AAGism 2024-12-04 05:15

This seems to be app based rather than implementing the ccc digital car key standard that saves the key to the wallet. So unfortunately will not work when the watch is dead. No idea whether passive entry is Bluetooth or UWB.

doymand 2024-12-04 05:18

If you’ve installed the Tesla app on your watch then using your iPhone the complication should in the Watch app under “Tesla” when you edit a watch face.

CtrlAltTroll 2024-12-04 05:46

This, I have S10 watch and it was ungodly slow to install

StrainGullible 2024-12-04 06:39

Looks great! Do you know if you can set your watch as a “phone-key”?

Jaws12 2024-12-04 06:47

Try going to the App Store on the watch itself and search for the Tesla app there. That’s what I had to do to get it to show up on my Series 8.

Jaws12 2024-12-04 06:49

Also will show info about your home if you have Tesla Solar/Powerwalls such as Powerwall state of charge and house current power draw.

klawUK 2024-12-04 07:38

I doubt I’d ever use the app directly. I don’t use many apps on the watch and mostly prefer complications as a route into functionality. If the tesla app doesn’t surface complications for trunk/climate on I’m not interested. Also it’d need to be able to open the trunk/turn on climate without asking me to unlock my phone (a peeve with apple) but happy to have a confirmation to avoid accidental trunkage

mountain-pilot 2024-12-04 07:42

Does anyone know if there are any benefits over the Tessie Apple Watch app?

[deleted] 2024-12-04 08:19

[removed]

stefanbayer 2024-12-04 09:52

Thanks for the info. Would have been great if Tesla went the ccc digital car key standard route.

IntelligentCompany83 2024-12-04 10:13

probably a stupid question but would having the commands on the watch keep the car awake ? that’s the only reason why i don’t have the widgets on my phone bc it would keep it awake super often 😭

Helvetica_Neue 2024-12-04 12:07

Do we know if this actually uses Ultra Wide Band or not? Just curious if it’s only the Teslas with UWB that will support this feature or if it will be coming to older Teslas as well?

GCDubbs 2024-12-04 12:14

Strange I don’t have it

Egg57aaa 2024-12-04 12:21

Thanks! That worked

bartturner 2024-12-04 13:07

Fantastic. I rarely purchase apps but did buy one. I often times forget my phone and want to get in the car and so got one where my watch could open the car.

mrbeez 2024-12-04 13:22

is this only for apple products?

shellacr 2024-12-04 13:27

Yeah it seems WatchOS10 supported it for digital car keys. Agree they will have to use bluetooth since I think only newer Teslas support UWB. Guess we will see.

Hovscorpion 2024-12-04 14:15

My Model X is on 33.5. App only shows battery percentage with no other options. Mind you, it is a 2018 model. I will be angry if my vehicle gets none of the features

Helvetica_Neue 2024-12-04 14:25

Seems like SE gen 2 and Series 6. Anything that runs WatchOS 11.

BoomerGeeker 2024-12-04 14:26

Hovscorpion 2024-12-04 14:38

I'm going to guess any Tesla prior to 2021 will not get the features.

Orpheus31 2024-12-04 14:47

Can the watch unlock without phone?

nyboilermaker 2024-12-04 14:50

Not yet- there's a vehicle software update that is required...probably when the Xmas update comes out this/next week.

AAGism 2024-12-04 15:10

No clue. Since they aren’t implementing the digital key standard I’m thinking the watch may just use Bluetooth like the phone key does. Haven’t seen UWB used in third party apps on the watch before. Seems to be locked to keys in the wallet & precision finding in the ultra 2.

Orpheus31 2024-12-04 15:35

Ah cool. Was this specifically stated somewhere that this functionality will be supported? Would be awesome not needing the phone when running quickly to the car for something.

YouKidsGetOffMyYard 2024-12-04 15:58

Exactly, Any idea on when Android people are going to get some of this Tesla Watch app love? I am not switching to apple, to engrained in Android/google at this point.

New_Junket4211 2024-12-04 16:08

I wonder if we will get the holiday update before Christmas 2025? Tesla updates for HW3 are now ridiculously late.

0_0NoobNoob0_0 2024-12-04 17:46

My model Y has the update and I updated my Tesla app on iPhone. My Apple Watch SE is also on the latest watchOS but it doesn’t show up in the watch app. What am I doing wrong?

0_0NoobNoob0_0 2024-12-04 17:50

Ok nvm apparently I have first gen SE and this one doesn’t get new updates. How lame 😅

tynamite 2024-12-04 20:53

same. my first gen SE doesn't get anything.

BoomerGeeker 2024-12-04 22:08

You want irony? My wife and I switched to Google Pixel phones/watched two months ago. I'm sad that my watch doesn't have an app yet, but my iphone can't fold open into a larger screen :)

asiangrlxx 2024-12-05 00:17

Yes. Haven’t been able to. :(

Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2024-12-05 01:10

I’m all set to go except that my car also needs to be updated :-(

Careless-Guitar-4773 2024-12-05 02:57

Does this allow your watch to work as a car key to drive the car without your phone? I've already bought the Watchla app, which does everything I need from my watch already, including works as a key, so I'm trying to figure out if there's any value in switching to this new Tesla watch app.

Careless-Guitar-4773 2024-12-05 02:59

You could just use the Watchla app? I've been using it for ages, it works great, and is a lot cheaper than a new Apple Watch!

PlusInternal3 2024-12-05 03:05

You have much better food though. (Unless you're writing this from Germany or the Netherlands. I'm so sorry. :) )

Hibiki123456 2024-12-05 03:30

Hopefully the watch app will resolve the trunk partial opening issue with siri shortcuts

Sonythedog 2024-12-05 03:51

But most do not have UWB

Dr_Pippin 2024-12-05 03:58

Just discovered my series 4 can't install the app. Good thing there's already a new Apple Watch under the Christmas tree for me!

doymand 2024-12-05 04:00

There was an update to the app a few months ago so that just opening the app doesn’t wake up the car anymore. You have to manually refresh the status or send a command to wake the car. I haven’t noticed the widget on my phone keeping the car awake so I don’t think it should be a problem for the watch app.

ClumpOfCheese 2024-12-05 08:38

Yeah same here, complications are the only things I use on my Apple Watch, or the Spotify player when it’s active, just too slow and tedious of a process when it’s faster to take out my phone.

[deleted] 2024-12-05 09:07

Put Summon on it and go full James Bond.

IntelligentCompany83 2024-12-05 09:34

ok thank you! I noticed the update for the app about not automatically waking up the car, I didn’t know that it also corrected the widgets, that’s really nice

Tasty_Review7347 2024-12-05 14:52

i tried everything, then i found i was on watchos 10 ...

satiricalned 2024-12-05 15:23

Hopefully they think of the security concerns on this so the car doesn't get jacked.  Great idea though. With new releases they will probably add customize controls and such. If Tesla still operates like a real tech company....

UnderstandingNo5785 2024-12-05 19:52

Note to self. You must install iOS 18 first and have watch os 11 to get this feature. Like me I am not updating my iPhone from iOS 17 and watch os 10 until I upgrade my phone in a month.

helfo 2024-12-05 22:21

I just tried the Tesla Apple Watch app, and while I can unlock the car through the app, the watch doesn’t work as a standalone key. What I really want is for the watch to let me access and start my car if my phone dies. I tried approaching the car with just the watch (no phone), but it didn’t unlock. My car is on version 2024.44.3.1 (v12). Is this a feature that’s missing in this software version and coming in a future holiday update, or did I misunderstand the app’s functionality?

SamBGB 2024-12-06 08:36

Wondered the same thing

rogersmj 2024-12-06 12:39

Finally…I can finally delete Watchla, since after nine months and who knows how many “fixes” they could never make the watch complications update consistently.

elammerding 2024-12-06 15:48

I’ve updated the app, the Apple Watch app doesn’t show up nor the new features mentioned in the app description. Anyone else? I understand the functionality isn’t there yet

Skytek65 2024-12-06 18:20

Saw this thread on it. [https://x.com/Tesla\_App\_iOS/status/1865088726587625966](https://x.com/Tesla_App_iOS/status/1865088726587625966)

NiceDakNoRomo 2024-12-06 21:30

Updated the app and still don’t see it.

Jheez88 2024-12-07 02:44

Damn it - Apple Watch 4 here - it is slowly dying but I can still squeeze another year of life out of it

ikabod70 2024-12-07 13:47

I have the 4.39.5 but my I can’t the tesla app on the selection in my iphone’s apple watch app? I also had the latest update on my Tesla MY

Acceptable_Task_1329 2024-12-07 22:15

My 2024 model y didn’t get the 2024.44.25 update yet. When setting up watch key it is not allowing as my car sw is not 44.25+. Any one have the same problem?

tekchic 2024-12-07 22:40

Stats app just updated and locked everyone out unless they subscribe (I was a one-time purchase a couple of years ago). Just in time for Tesla to get their watch app going at least.

Btalisman 2024-12-08 05:47

Still not working. No app on watch have shut down and restarted.

quantier 2024-12-08 08:18

I see the unlock button but it does not do anything. The rest of the buttons are missing - I have a S from 2017

EDENbys 2024-12-08 17:26

Its required to update the car too, I havent got it yet :(

Smart_Block2648 2024-12-09 00:29

Got the update yesterday, but no app available for the Apple Watch. Is it only for certain Apple Watch models?

macandmeme 2024-12-09 19:41

Damn I have a 40mm series 5 too and I just don’t wanna get a new one. I love this size so much.

archocinco 2024-12-10 17:16

Vehicle updated but Tesla app doesn’t require and update… what am I doing wrong to install this watch app?! Checked watch apps too

Intrepid_Value_9237 2024-12-10 23:09

Same here. Model X. All latests software on watch and phone and car. Only who's the time, car name, image, car status and battery. No other options.

CCCMTTT 2024-12-11 18:07

Okay but WHERE? I updated everything and squat. I do not see the Tesla app in my list of available Apple Watch apps. NOBODY is talking about it and for the life of me I cannot find a list of requirements to check if my watch is too old or something cus nothing else makes sense.

HoustonINR 2024-12-22 03:31

Working on my 2018 Model 3
