If they just put a steering wheel and pedals in this, I’d buy it!

CATFLAPY 2024-11-23 20:42

It seems low to get in and out of, what the reason or that?

ramisanders 2024-11-23 20:55

Why would you want to drive?

dwiedenau2 2024-11-23 20:56

Because it cant drive itself, and you know that

GrundleTrunk 2024-11-23 20:57

I want to see the mechanism by which they pilot it into places like this... as well as when testing the taxi service with a human driver. Clearly there is some system of "not automated" that would be very interesting to know more about.

Dildo-Gaggins_ 2024-11-23 20:58

I like how it looks - especially the doors - and think it’ll be great replacement for my current Model 3 if it had a steering wheel and pedals cus I like driving. I have FSD and it’s really really cool! But I’d like the option to drive when I want to.

ramisanders 2024-11-23 20:59

It will. I do agree there is still a lot of things to figure out. But that’s why it’s not out now. But FSD SPV is amazing. I drove 300 miles around town. Hit 12 destinations and didn’t intervene once. It’s coming. I would love a steering wheel but Elon I trust lol.

ramisanders 2024-11-23 20:59

So true. How did they get it in there. U know I also didn’t see it charging or a charging port.

ramisanders 2024-11-23 21:00

Not sure

CommunicationHot4135 2024-11-23 21:00

Looks like a great place for prostitutes to handle business and people to smoke a little fentanyl or snort some cocaine outside of a nightclub. Zero supervision zero cleaning in between customers.

NewMY2020 2024-11-23 21:02

The look is growing on me

Funkytadualexhaust 2024-11-23 21:02

Someone has to, and its not the car.

CommunicationHot4135 2024-11-23 21:05

With no driver or supervision….. When someone throws up on the seat in a cyber cab on a Friday evening, who cleans it up before the next fair hops in? When someone snorts coke off the dash, who cleans it up before your kid hops in after soccer? When a prostitute gets picked up in one for a “date”, who cleans it out for the next customer?

dwiedenau2 2024-11-23 21:05

Whats the current prediction for actual full self driving? Im guessing 2 years away? Like it has been for the past 10? But you go ahead and trust him with your life

kikibuggy 2024-11-23 21:11

It charges wirelessly

apworker37 2024-11-23 21:13

The model 2 that Europe wants.

orebus 2024-11-23 21:13

Some people like driving cars.

ramisanders 2024-11-23 21:15

True.

orebus 2024-11-23 21:15

I don't like the whole idea behind that car - making Tesla into an Uber. I would rather have a compact Tesla 3, or a Tesla van.

ramisanders 2024-11-23 21:17

One day we will say it like we say people liked riding horses... Some people like floppy disks Paying for electricity Pumping gas... Whatever floats ur boat. Lol

ramisanders 2024-11-23 21:26

This car was a publicity stunt to get people to test drive the FSD now and buy a current car form the S3XY CYBERTRUCK lineup.

ramisanders 2024-11-23 21:26

It will. Not yet. There’s no wireless charger at the showroom

RazingsIsNotHomeNow 2024-11-23 21:38

People do like riding horses... It's called a hobby. If people didn't like driving cars, racetracks wouldn't exist.

swords-and-boreds 2024-11-23 21:41

Never ever ever ever ever gonna work. Ever.

RazingsIsNotHomeNow 2024-11-23 21:41

You've got to imagine if this ever makes it to production there's no way they keep the suede like carpeted floors. Can you imagine the amount of time wasted trying to keep them clean.

bombastica 2024-11-23 21:42

These seats look like they were designed by spirit airlines.

836194950 2024-11-23 21:42

Why is this not a model 2![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

1FrostySlime 2024-11-23 21:44

Honestly I just need a charge port and I'd consider it if FSD is.... FSD. Although strong xDoubt on that

InvictusShmictus 2024-11-23 21:46

Until FSD can read my mind and park and drive exactly how I want it to in every situation then a steering wheel and pedals will be inherently necessary for a personal vehicle.

omnibossk 2024-11-23 21:47

Could they be using remote control like they did on some Tesla bots? I’m afraid if they did, it could mean that they did it on the cybercabs at the Cyber event.

bp_nanuan 2024-11-23 21:51

It's so funny that people keep believing him. It's never coming. Even if it does, it won't be safe for you or the people around you. I still believe FSD would be great for highways. But not local streets, there's just too many variables to account for that Teslas won't be able to do, especially with a Camera based system that has blindspots

paisley_pterodactyl 2024-11-23 22:00

Aerodynamics

districtcurrent 2024-11-23 22:16

I’m sure the is a plug and pay steer by wire module that they can install with relative ease. There aren’t just making Cybercab. This is also going to be a steerable entry level car.

codetony 2024-11-23 22:22

I'm sure for moving it around showrooms, they absolutely used a remote control. However, I'm certain they used FSD for the event, they had tons of test vehicles at the Warner Bros lot, and apparently had Lidar scans done of the planned route. It was probably more like a preprogrammed FSD.

DaemonCRO 2024-11-23 22:22

Probably something like PlayStation controller

okwellactually 2024-11-23 22:24

That's a job for the TeslaBots. Duh!

GrundleTrunk 2024-11-23 22:25

Yes, I agree, and want to know more about this which nobody seems to be addressing. This is a really interesting aspect to the whole thing... not just for cybercabs, but possibly the future of all tesla vehicles that ultimately may run on steer by wire.

spinwizard69 2024-11-23 22:34

Nice, it kinda makes me wish that Apple would get rid of the center console on the model Y. I might be willing to buy with that much room for my feet.

spinwizard69 2024-11-23 22:35

Probably like a lot of shops, someone pushing.

districtcurrent 2024-11-23 22:37

It’s pure speculation on my part, but many other assume the same. We can’t know more - if true Tesla will keep this wrapped up until the very last second, so you can order the day it’s announced and will deliver in 3 months. Announcing too early will only hurt sales.

spinwizard69 2024-11-23 22:37

A good hoe swallows

AssGagger 2024-11-23 22:38

And 3 more seats and 2 more doors

LobbyDizzle 2024-11-23 22:46

Same reason it's 2 doors instead of 4. Stupidity.

OSUfan88 2024-11-23 22:55

Why would you put 4 doors on a 2 passenger car?

LobbyDizzle 2024-11-23 22:56

So you could hold 4 passengers?

PeterMode 2024-11-23 22:58

fosterdad2017 2024-11-23 23:06

After everything Elon said about model X doors... why show this door concept? Seems unlikely to be production intent at all.

Linton_M 2024-11-23 23:16

Facts, I really wouldn’t mind fsd cars as a daily thing, and have racing on a race track as my hobby.

RazingsIsNotHomeNow 2024-11-23 23:19

Yeah, no one I know likes commuting but plenty like driving. Turns out having a choice matters.

brakeb 2024-11-23 23:46

Heh, I don't trust FSD, damn sure not getting into a 'taxi without a driver and/or steering wheel... Maybe in 10 years or so... And when other drivers aren't driving their own vehicles.

tobimai 2024-11-23 23:49

Well it may as well be just a mock-up.

tobimai 2024-11-23 23:50

Naah 2-seaters are stupid.

tobimai 2024-11-23 23:50

Because I am 100% conviced FSD will not be a thing in the next years. Not of 100% of the stuff I drive. I want to see FSD on a steep 1-lane-wide gravel road with oncoming traffic lol.

hedcase_107 2024-11-23 23:50

Expect it to have 40 safety recalls in the first year.

Meats10 2024-11-23 23:52

Completely impractical for any major city.

[deleted] 2024-11-23 23:52

[deleted]

tobimai 2024-11-23 23:52

Because CYBER FSD raises more investor money than a cheap, low-margin car

tobimai 2024-11-23 23:53

Well maybe at some point, not in the next years. I can imagine it working on normal, marked roads withing a few years, but apart from that there are just too many edge cases.

13e1ieve 2024-11-23 23:55

Yessss model Y with bench seats would be fire

bike_tyson 2024-11-23 23:56

It would be so much more practical as a 3 seater across as a taxi. Probably cheaper to make too. One long seat.

starshiptraveler 2024-11-24 00:01

Same. Especially if it was as fast as my MSP. I love two seaters.

starshiptraveler 2024-11-24 00:02

The vast majority of cab rides are 1 or 2 passengers. This is perfect for the intended use case.

starshiptraveler 2024-11-24 00:04

How do you figure? Seems very practical to me. These doors take up far less space when opened than normal doors.

starshiptraveler 2024-11-24 00:07

Unlikely given you’ll have to sign up to use these and provide a card number, and there are cameras recording everything.

grizzly_teddy 2024-11-24 00:10

Nice. Easy to slide across from one side to the other, so you can have someone enter from the curb and sit in the driver's seat. It's not really a driver's seat though. So what should we call it?

justintime06 2024-11-24 00:12

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an “arrow key” layout on the screen where you can hold a button to move 2mph forward, left, etc

ChildishBonVonnegut 2024-11-24 00:22

Comes down to the price

shaheedmalik 2024-11-24 00:27

A Model 3?

GoneCollarGone 2024-11-24 00:46

How did the painted wheels look?

psaux_grep 2024-11-24 00:57

Probably a cable coming up from the floor under the car.

JAG319 2024-11-24 01:09

ive literally never thought about this lol

Rockforced 2024-11-24 02:05

..and no, you don't. Literally talking to an engineer.

dflan01 2024-11-24 02:26

Not that I ever see this making it into the world, but those seats will be blown out within a year.

YagerD 2024-11-24 02:35

The fact that you feel it drives amazing does nothing to getting it closer to level 4 or 5 or hell even 3.

standardphysics 2024-11-24 02:59

Take up less room, and maybe more notably, they would be highly visible when open. This would both advertise the vehicle to onlookers and loudly signal that someone is entering or exiting the vehicle. This thing is super unconventional, but it really feels like there's some interesting ideas baked in.

Cloudsrcool 2024-11-24 03:02

I don’t understand their stubbornness in not making a more economical model instead. As a FSD user, it’s so clear that self-driving cars are FAR away from reality. A smaller less expensive version is what Tesla needs to compete.

commanderepsilon 2024-11-24 05:58

I asked one of the guys in Tysons Corner (VA). He said they summoned it in. I assume they lined it up and dumb summoned it into the showroom

rideincircles 2024-11-24 06:07

.it sounds like those options are on the works. The compact car was cancelled for the robotaxi, but Tesla mentioned they have a few cars in the works based on the current platforms. We just don't know the models will be yet, but production next year is the goal. I expect they will preview them after the Y highland update is in production.

free_username_ 2024-11-24 06:39

It’s a small two seater car. Not sure why this isn’t the Model 2 instead, besides the idea of selling autonomous cabs. Though, it’s missing the expectation of luggage space and parties greater than two which a number of cab users may expect

GrundleTrunk 2024-11-24 06:52

How does that work for the supervised taxi service they've been trial running?

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:04

You don’t need an internet signal and they are NOT selling these as $25k cars. They are not selling them at all right now - at any price

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:10

It may be the Model 2. Two inexpensive vehicles coming out in 2025 from Tesla

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:12

They aren’t going to investors for money in 2024 or 2025 or even 2026. What are you on about?

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:13

For people with accessibility issues

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:13

LOL okay

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:14

The seats are the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in - in any vehicle

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:16

There will be a 3 seater and a 5 seater when different Cybercab trims are announced

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:18

So people can get in without using their hands. Like a bus or subway train.

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:20

Who told you there’s zero supervision and zero cleaning between customers? Because at the We, Robot event they said the exact opposite

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:24

It’s a self-cleaning car so anytime it needs cleaning Cybercab goes offline for a few minutes and cleans the vomit. And there plenty of supervision - each owner can see what is happening is his/her Cybercab on their cellphone from one of the 4 cameras inside the car. Also snorting cocaine off the dash would lead to a quick arrest

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:27

They are making two more economical models next year. Why does it have to be either or?

Saratoga5 2024-11-24 07:31

They are building 2 inexpensive models next year (don’t know if they are calling one the Model 2 but I doubt it). Also the two seater Cybercab is the first one but there will be at least three other versions with more seats.

da--prince 2024-11-24 07:37

Because they’re distracted trying to work on so many things at the same time instead of being focused on what matters the most — today.

Anthracitation 2024-11-24 08:24

I, too, would love for Apple to offer that. Get on it, Tim!

Anthracitation 2024-11-24 08:30

I think the problem with the Model X doors was that there’s a hinge in the roof and a second hinge within the door, and that makes it difficult for it to close with precision. The Robotaxi has normal one-piece doors that are just hinged in a different place. That kind of door has been relatively unproblematic on sports cars for decades.

jekardo 2024-11-24 10:34

So you cant get in this 2 adults and a kid?

ObeseSnake 2024-11-24 11:11

All tied to the user who download the Tesla app and added a payment method plus in cameras recording everything.

ObeseSnake 2024-11-24 11:12

Sounds like what people said about the Cybertruck five years ago.

UltraLisp 2024-11-24 12:14

Was that announced somewhere? What makes you so sure about this?

tobimai 2024-11-24 13:14

Tesla is a publicly traded company. They are ALWAYS going for the investors

HalfEazy 2024-11-24 14:16

Was this at Aventura mall?

retromafia 2024-11-24 14:39

I love commuting, but then I have an electric motorcycle, so it's hella fun.

overtoke 2024-11-24 14:45

even the cars in demolition man had a manual mode.

TheLastGenXer 2024-11-24 15:01

I want some buttons and dials before buying a Tesla.

DraugrhunterGeist 2024-11-24 15:11

Reminds me of demolition man

[deleted] 2024-11-24 16:35

Or being announced in 2025? 😅

KikiChase83 2024-11-24 16:36

It needs seats in the back but ok 🤷‍♀️

No_Conversation4885 2024-11-24 17:12

Go and buy Chinese. Or a used Tesla. What exactly is your complaint?

SighhhSandwich 2024-11-24 19:36

But isn’t that equally limiting for people with other accessibility issues (especially older people)?

Empty_Wallaby5481 2024-11-24 21:35

My thoughts exactly! I know it's a prototype and all, but couldn't someone have swung over to the Model 3/Y production area and grabbed a couple of seats from there to pop in?

Empty_Wallaby5481 2024-11-24 21:40

The manufacture of a product, and the development of a full self driving vehicle are two very, very different things. I'm not going to say it's never going to work, but it's still a lot longer off than Elon wants to make it sound. While FSD 12.5.x is pretty good, there's a reason why it's supervised. Lots of and lots of cases where it needs a ton of work. My trial ends tomorrow - it was interesting in the fall because the car was afraid of leaves! Windy days were an adventure trying to drive with FSD. There were also some mornings where I couldn't use it on my way to work. Driving west with the sun at a particular angle, the driver door camera was blinded so FSD wouldn't work. I have lots more examples, and while it's pretty amazing to see how far they've brought it, there are still so many small areas to work on that it will take many years to perfect.

Empty_Wallaby5481 2024-11-24 21:45

A company Tesla's size should be able to walk and chew at the same time. Unfortunately their leader is walking and chewing all sorts of stuff and not focused on the car company. They had the Cybercab and cheaper vehicle on the go at the same time until Elon killed the cheaper vehicle. They should have had the teams to have both projects on the go, especially considering the Cybercab is more a of moonshot project at this point. Unfortunately what should happen next won't - because Elon has bought himself a government (maybe) - the tariffs should come off cheap Chinese EV's and they should be allowed into North America. If no NA companies are willing to provide the lower end of the market with EVs, let the Chinese do it. All our companies are hiding behind protectionism now and that's going to keep EV prices high for longer than they need to be.

Empty_Wallaby5481 2024-11-24 21:48

That day is still very, very far away. Once FSD is solved, full fleet turnover takes 15 - 20 years if everyone chooses to adopt it in their very next vehicle, which won't happen. There are still many people out there who will want to keep driving, or at least want the option to drive. I like using FSD, but I also like being able to take over whenever I want.

Xcitado 2024-11-24 22:42

I’m dead serious. It’s a Model Y 2DR Juniper without steering wheel.

ramisanders 2024-11-24 22:43

I agree I think they will eventually have a steering wheel option. This was a stunt to show off FSD.

ramisanders 2024-11-24 22:43

I sure hope the new Y looks like this.

After going public: 24 hours until someone pukes in one on a weekend, 2 days later someone gets naked in one, a week later folks do viral sex challenges in them, after 6 months riders are highly likely to get staph infections sitting down in them.
