Looks like it may have a longer cord for automobiles other than Tesla. Did everything else seem to work okay on the new charger?pretty cool Thanks

pixelflop 2024-10-26 13:59

What kind of charge speed did you get?

Confident-Pea-9623 2024-10-26 14:00

Oh yeah the cord is incredibly long, definitely setup for other vehicles. I didn’t look hard enough to see if there was display on it like I was seeing on some posts I saw about it awhile ago. Cord wasn’t stiff on this cold michigan morning like I’ve noticed on v2 and sometimes on v4. Otherwise seamless experience and maybe it was just me but even battery warming was faster than usual and I have a 2022 model 3 LR. Great experience overall as usual.

itshukokay 2024-10-26 14:07

Does it have a screen on it? Or do non-Tesla’s still need to use an app?

Donnian 2024-10-26 14:07

All V4 cabinets in the US at 250kW max.

lurkingtonbear 2024-10-26 14:10

I used one of these for the first time this morning just now and took a picture that basically looks exactly the same. https://preview.redd.it/l3np6erxy3xd1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2f1055fe6b2f9c56659df6d23addbd5d743a190 Cheers.

rman18 2024-10-26 14:13

Sir, this is a Wendy’s

lurkingtonbear 2024-10-26 14:14

Accurate

banana_card 2024-10-26 14:23

It looks nice but in reality I thought it felt kinda cheap when I was charging at one in Austria a few weeks ago. Can’t really say why though..

mlty 2024-10-26 14:24

In Germany there is a Screen but u have to use the app

acruzjr89 2024-10-26 14:26

But did you get the Krabby Patty

0r10z 2024-10-26 14:31

This looks like urban 72kW chargers only bigger. The only reason for larger size I can think of is future enabled 450+kW charging.

lurkingtonbear 2024-10-26 14:43

Not this time, but I’ve had 3 of them so far. They’re pretty good!

Confident-Pea-9623 2024-10-26 14:45

Great Minds! Cheers

Confident-Pea-9623 2024-10-26 14:50

Yeah I hit 250!

bouncypete 2024-10-26 14:51

In Europe at least, the button on the changing lead rarely works to unplug the charger on V4 chargers. I believe Tesla is aware of this but I'm not sure when it'll work as reliably as it does V2 and V3 chargers.

jabroni4545 2024-10-26 14:51

What are v3s max?

Confident-Pea-9623 2024-10-26 14:57

Dang really? I thought the handle was higher quality and the button mechanism to release it was better to be honest! I’ve had so many v2 v3 in Chicago that the button is wrecked. Also this handle actually properly latches into place. Whereas the v2 v3 I feel the handle comes loose from the supercharger dock easily..

JohnTeaGuy 2024-10-26 14:59

250kW

galloots 2024-10-26 14:59

Whats different about them to make them V4?

GottaKnowYourMind 2024-10-26 15:01

How V4 superchargers share power and what those letters (a,b,c,d) means?

Moose-Turd 2024-10-26 15:05

At the moment its the pedestal. In the future with backend upgrades will be 1000v charging. But for now the biggest perk is the longer charger cable to help with charging non Tesla vehicles and possibly give more options to those towing or have a bike rack on their Tesla.

Moose-Turd 2024-10-26 15:06

Oh and the only site that I have visited with them had the magic docks too. Not sure if that's going to be for all v4 or not

JtheNinja 2024-10-26 15:07

I have yet to see one in North America that has a working screen. It’s either turned off, or not even present (post has a blank panel where it would go)

JtheNinja 2024-10-26 15:09

Same as V3s (they’re still using the V3 cabinets for now anyway). A/B/C/D units share a cabinet, but several cabinets can share power so you don’t need to really worry about splitting. A cabinet has more capacity than it can send to a single post anyway.

twinbee 2024-10-26 15:10

Aw, I like the ones with the hole in the middle.

Moose-Turd 2024-10-26 15:11

At the moment they are connected to V3 cabinets, so the scheme is similar where each plug (A,B,C,D) can put out up to 250kw, and the overall limit is shared between several cabinets so power can be supplied to cabinet A (assuming all 4 are charging at 250kw) from cabinet B. This would require 4 vehicles less than 15-20% charge to all be plugged in at nearly the same time, so while possible, probably not likely.

un_commoncents_ 2024-10-26 15:12

So fast it’s done before you get back inside your car.

galloots 2024-10-26 15:14

Whats a magic dock

HighTeckRedNeck13 2024-10-26 15:16

This looks way nicer for charging the lightning

banana_card 2024-10-26 15:16

It was exactly the opposite for me in Austria. Button to open the latch didn’t work, plastic felt cheap and the handle didn’t hold when I put it back in place. 😕 It honestly felt like the whole thing was decades old even though it was basically brand new.

tannerwastaken 2024-10-26 15:18

There are many all over CA. They’ve been popping up right and left over the last year. One thing to note is that they are just V4 cabinets, the actual charging equipment is still V3

Moose-Turd 2024-10-26 15:19

It's a built in NACS to CCS adapter, opens up the chargers to vehicles with CCS ports.

MaC1222 2024-10-26 15:22

So what are we doing here?

IndirectHeat 2024-10-26 15:30

I used one in upstate NY recently and there was no screen.

JohnTeaGuy 2024-10-26 15:33

Longer cables so non-Teslas can charge without blocking two spots. Other than that, I dont know.

BadRegEx 2024-10-26 15:34

V4 is capable of 350kw Model 3/Y is capable of accepting 250kw

McD-Szechuan 2024-10-26 15:37

They’ll do 350 on a Cybertruck

Whitey_Drummer54 2024-10-26 15:46

Meijer?

g1aiz 2024-10-26 15:59

They also have longer cables for other manufacturers.

islandthund3r 2024-10-26 16:10

Is the 250kW charging limit due to the current 400V battery setup? Or will the Cybertruck and newer Tesla models come with 800V batteries so they can fully utilize the V4 charging stations?

ivan_denysov 2024-10-26 16:12

Also I’ve seen several cases of v4 cables becoming so stiff in cold weather that they fell out of their hanging spot. But they didn’t fall all the way to the ground and were hovering in the air like enchanted snakes ;)

[deleted] 2024-10-26 16:16

[deleted]

Crazy-Agency5641 2024-10-26 16:45

I think they are asking why the cybertruck charges at 350kW and model3/y charges at 250kW. The cybertruck is 800V with much better cooling to handle the heat from the extra 100kW.

psaux_grep 2024-10-26 16:48

European V4 dispensers seems to have issues with the cable not latching well/easily. The first time I used one the cable didn’t stick when I put it back in the dispenser/post, and when I visited a station that had been up for six months back in August you could definitely tell that they keep falling out and hitting the ground. In my five years of being a Tesla owner I have never before experienced a handle with a broken disconnect button, but there I did. One data point is obviously statistically significant, but all the charging handles looked like this: https://imgur.com/a/2MGDQrM

hmsq82 2024-10-26 17:12

I had same experience this summer on my roadtrip through France, Spain etc... Button wouldn't work to open the charge port.

Donnian 2024-10-26 17:27

That's correct, it's just an updated design that allows for more accessibility to other EVs depending on charge port locations.

Mark0Sky 2024-10-26 17:43

Longer cable, more efficient cooling, can also incorporate a small display and contactless card terminal.

stabamole 2024-10-26 17:46

I don’t doubt they’d need a better cooling system for the bigger pack but it should also be able to charge 350kW with less heat than 250kW at 400v since the same power draw would be half the amps, and 350kW is less than double 250kW

S3kelman 2024-10-26 18:03

"EU seem to have issues" because you saw 2, I live in EU and never had or saw any issue with the dozen V4 I used..

ordinaryflask 2024-10-26 18:38

I believe they’re also centered in the spot whereas current superchargers are offset to one side of the spot in most instances. I’ve also run into stations where they redid the lines, after the chargers were installed, and they painted the lines to center the charger. Doesn’t work well with the v3 chargers since the cable is short. So you need to park close to the side to make it reach. Definitely had me scratching my head when I first pulled in haha

RegularRandomZ 2024-10-26 18:39

There are no v4 cabinets AFAIK, the v4 posts are connected to V3.5 cabinets which still have the same 250kW max ouput \[although there have been reports of a few test sites delivering higher output\]

1FrostySlime 2024-10-26 18:40

All V4s currently deployed are not capable of more than 250kW (outside of a handful capable of upping the amperage to charge the Cybertruck at up to 330kW but the information on where to find these and their true capability are not made public by Tesla)

RegularRandomZ 2024-10-26 18:43

For clarification, these are V4 posts (some people call them pedestals or dispensers) ... the cabinets are the large boxes housing the charging equipment \[which yes are still V3.5, 250kW\]

tannerwastaken 2024-10-26 18:59

Hmm maybe I said it backwards, but yeah same principal. The “dispenser” is v4 and the “cabinets” (charging equipment/infrastructure) are v3.x

narmer2 2024-10-26 19:16

Does V4 add any feature to stop theft of the cable?

Illustrious_Factor57 2024-10-26 20:14

Is this the meijer(s) one?

ali-gzl 2024-10-26 20:32

V3.5 and V4 look identical. V4 can manage up to 350 kW, but V3.5 is still limited to 250 kW. Therefore, this design doesn’t represent only V4. Especialy In EU it's mostly V4 looking V3.5 units.

[deleted] 2024-10-26 20:34

V4 dispenser with V3 cabinet

[deleted] 2024-10-26 20:56

[deleted]

1FrostySlime 2024-10-26 21:06

No....they don't All V4 chargers use V3 hardware on the backend which is not capable of outputting more than 500V This information is [coming from the lead Cybertruck engineer](https://x.com/wmorrill3/status/1820329310118625560) so even if my going around reading the labels of cabinets to make sure they're V3 cabinets isn't enough for you I feel like you can trust them.

kingofnexus 2024-10-26 21:23

I live in UK and these type chargers have the cable on the floor and broken button half the time.

AZFire480 2024-10-26 22:05

Unpopular opinion, hate the new cords and connection. Seems cheaper

TheAdventureInsider 2024-10-26 22:12

And the stall is centered in the parking spot as well. That’s exactly what’s going on.

TissueAndLube 2024-10-26 23:29

Why is the V4 so special? We got them at almost every supercharger here in the Netherlands…

Fleischer444 2024-10-26 23:31

I really like my Tesla Model 2. But Elon makes it hard to buy a new one. Hes such a fucking moron now.

psaux_grep 2024-10-27 00:03

I didn’t see two… the picture is from a Supercharger station with 24 stalls. I looked closely at eight, and the others I saw from a distance appeared to be the same. Obviously can’t talk about the stalls you’re using, for all we know they’ve revised some hardware. Or there are other differences. Just because my experience is different than yours doesn’t make it invalid.

Duckpoke 2024-10-27 00:05

Damn. Have an upvote

hutacars 2024-10-27 02:08

They’re great for jumping through, like a real life game of Portal!

I_am_darkness 2024-10-27 04:12

I wish they'd make side orientation so I could charge with a trailer.

Jumpy_Implement_1902 2024-10-27 06:51

Has anyone run across superchargers where some assclown decided to wipe peanut butter on it to mimic poop?

WinterRespect1579 2024-10-27 07:21

Used one in France 🇫🇷 last week

Present-Ad-9598 2024-10-27 07:38

There’s been one at the buc-ee’s near me for a few months now and it’s been zero issues, works like normal, just longer cable

aliomenti 2024-10-27 09:28

We have lots of V4’s round here. They have a very bad design for the cable holster meaning that 50% of the time you are picking it up, out of a puddle on the ground.

mewandersen 2024-10-27 11:57

Playstation 5 plus

Ninj4s 2024-10-27 12:06

But this isn't a V4 charger, just a V4 stall. The back-end (charger) is still V3.

Ninj4s 2024-10-27 12:08

> The only reason for larger size I can think of is future enabled 450+kW charging. The chargers are not inside the stalls, they are in the cabinets off to the side.

DebBoi 2024-10-27 12:42

But higher voltage

snowmelted 2024-10-27 14:40

i hit a v4 recently, i was the only one there, and i was only getting about 450 mph right from the start

RemarkableCard6475 2024-10-27 14:47

Why can't we all have nice things?

[deleted] 2024-10-27 15:04

That is literally one of the reasons for that generation - easier 3rd party access - also they now are pre-equipped with a screen and a card reader to facilitate ad-hoc payment, which afaik isnt active yet.

nazzo123 2024-10-27 17:43

Where in Michigan is this V4? I’m also Michigan

fiddlerwoaroof 2024-10-27 18:13

Because they are filled with liquid?

bouncypete 2024-10-27 18:58

Both V3 and V4 cables are liquid cooled and the V3 chargers are not affected.

llslothll 2024-10-27 19:57

I got almost 10,000 mi and have yet to use a supercharger. OP, what kinda kwh did you get?

JealousSpinach9715 2024-10-27 21:02

Beautiful and Michigan in the same sentence is wrong. (I’m from Michigan)

Jaambez 2024-10-27 22:37

With a slow charging car... Man, what i would give if Tesla improved charging performance with an OTA Update

7venhigh 2024-10-27 22:47

How much faster are these then regular sc?

S3kelman 2024-10-27 22:57

even if you looked at the all 24 stalls, it's odd to say "all EU V4 chargers have an issue"

TiramisuAlreadyTaken 2024-10-28 05:21

How surprising. I had that exact problem a few days ago. The button didn't open the charge port. I reported it and thought it was a broken button.

tman1576 2024-10-28 13:37

They took how many months😭

Errand_Wolfe_ 2024-10-28 14:39

I wonder if the design is optimized for the NACS handle and the increased size of the CCS plug is causing issues at some stations in EU?

Zina_1of 2024-10-29 07:27

Automobiles other than Tesla can go charge somewhere else because if they didn't want to support Tesla by buying the car they can f... off to some crapy not working public charger in my opinion...

Charlly90210 2024-11-02 00:07

That’s the new charger by my house we have been waiting for it for two years
