Looks like it may have a longer cord for automobiles other than Tesla. Did everything else seem to work okay on the new charger?pretty cool Thanks
What kind of charge speed did you get?
Oh yeah the cord is incredibly long, definitely setup for other vehicles. I didnât look hard enough to see if there was display on it like I was seeing on some posts I saw about it awhile ago. Cord wasnât stiff on this cold michigan morning like Iâve noticed on v2 and sometimes on v4. Otherwise seamless experience and maybe it was just me but even battery warming was faster than usual and I have a 2022 model 3 LR. Great experience overall as usual.
Does it have a screen on it? Or do non-Teslaâs still need to use an app?
All V4 cabinets in the US at 250kW max.
I used one of these for the first time this morning just now and took a picture that basically looks exactly the same. https://preview.redd.it/l3np6erxy3xd1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2f1055fe6b2f9c56659df6d23addbd5d743a190 Cheers.
Sir, this is a Wendyâs
Accurate
It looks nice but in reality I thought it felt kinda cheap when I was charging at one in Austria a few weeks ago. Canât really say why though..
In Germany there is a Screen but u have to use the app
But did you get the Krabby Patty
This looks like urban 72kW chargers only bigger. The only reason for larger size I can think of is future enabled 450+kW charging.
Not this time, but Iâve had 3 of them so far. Theyâre pretty good!
Great Minds! Cheers
Yeah I hit 250!
In Europe at least, the button on the changing lead rarely works to unplug the charger on V4 chargers. I believe Tesla is aware of this but I'm not sure when it'll work as reliably as it does V2 and V3 chargers.
What are v3s max?
Dang really? I thought the handle was higher quality and the button mechanism to release it was better to be honest! Iâve had so many v2 v3 in Chicago that the button is wrecked. Also this handle actually properly latches into place. Whereas the v2 v3 I feel the handle comes loose from the supercharger dock easily..
250kW
Whats different about them to make them V4?
How V4 superchargers share power and what those letters (a,b,c,d) means?
At the moment its the pedestal. In the future with backend upgrades will be 1000v charging. But for now the biggest perk is the longer charger cable to help with charging non Tesla vehicles and possibly give more options to those towing or have a bike rack on their Tesla.
Oh and the only site that I have visited with them had the magic docks too. Not sure if that's going to be for all v4 or not
I have yet to see one in North America that has a working screen. Itâs either turned off, or not even present (post has a blank panel where it would go)
Same as V3s (theyâre still using the V3 cabinets for now anyway). A/B/C/D units share a cabinet, but several cabinets can share power so you donât need to really worry about splitting. A cabinet has more capacity than it can send to a single post anyway.
Aw, I like the ones with the hole in the middle.
At the moment they are connected to V3 cabinets, so the scheme is similar where each plug (A,B,C,D) can put out up to 250kw, and the overall limit is shared between several cabinets so power can be supplied to cabinet A (assuming all 4 are charging at 250kw) from cabinet B. This would require 4 vehicles less than 15-20% charge to all be plugged in at nearly the same time, so while possible, probably not likely.
So fast itâs done before you get back inside your car.
Whats a magic dock
This looks way nicer for charging the lightning
It was exactly the opposite for me in Austria. Button to open the latch didnât work, plastic felt cheap and the handle didnât hold when I put it back in place. đ It honestly felt like the whole thing was decades old even though it was basically brand new.
There are many all over CA. Theyâve been popping up right and left over the last year. One thing to note is that they are just V4 cabinets, the actual charging equipment is still V3
It's a built in NACS to CCS adapter, opens up the chargers to vehicles with CCS ports.
So what are we doing here?
I used one in upstate NY recently and there was no screen.
Longer cables so non-Teslas can charge without blocking two spots. Other than that, I dont know.
V4 is capable of 350kw Model 3/Y is capable of accepting 250kw
Theyâll do 350 on a Cybertruck
Meijer?
They also have longer cables for other manufacturers.
Is the 250kW charging limit due to the current 400V battery setup? Or will the Cybertruck and newer Tesla models come with 800V batteries so they can fully utilize the V4 charging stations?
Also Iâve seen several cases of v4 cables becoming so stiff in cold weather that they fell out of their hanging spot. But they didnât fall all the way to the ground and were hovering in the air like enchanted snakes ;)

I think they are asking why the cybertruck charges at 350kW and model3/y charges at 250kW. The cybertruck is 800V with much better cooling to handle the heat from the extra 100kW.
European V4 dispensers seems to have issues with the cable not latching well/easily. The first time I used one the cable didnât stick when I put it back in the dispenser/post, and when I visited a station that had been up for six months back in August you could definitely tell that they keep falling out and hitting the ground. In my five years of being a Tesla owner I have never before experienced a handle with a broken disconnect button, but there I did. One data point is obviously statistically significant, but all the charging handles looked like this: https://imgur.com/a/2MGDQrM
I had same experience this summer on my roadtrip through France, Spain etc... Button wouldn't work to open the charge port.
That's correct, it's just an updated design that allows for more accessibility to other EVs depending on charge port locations.
Longer cable, more efficient cooling, can also incorporate a small display and contactless card terminal.
I donât doubt theyâd need a better cooling system for the bigger pack but it should also be able to charge 350kW with less heat than 250kW at 400v since the same power draw would be half the amps, and 350kW is less than double 250kW
"EU seem to have issues" because you saw 2, I live in EU and never had or saw any issue with the dozen V4 I used..
I believe theyâre also centered in the spot whereas current superchargers are offset to one side of the spot in most instances. Iâve also run into stations where they redid the lines, after the chargers were installed, and they painted the lines to center the charger. Doesnât work well with the v3 chargers since the cable is short. So you need to park close to the side to make it reach. Definitely had me scratching my head when I first pulled in haha
There are no v4 cabinets AFAIK, the v4 posts are connected to V3.5 cabinets which still have the same 250kW max ouput \[although there have been reports of a few test sites delivering higher output\]
All V4s currently deployed are not capable of more than 250kW (outside of a handful capable of upping the amperage to charge the Cybertruck at up to 330kW but the information on where to find these and their true capability are not made public by Tesla)
For clarification, these are V4 posts (some people call them pedestals or dispensers) ... the cabinets are the large boxes housing the charging equipment \[which yes are still V3.5, 250kW\]
Hmm maybe I said it backwards, but yeah same principal. The âdispenserâ is v4 and the âcabinetsâ (charging equipment/infrastructure) are v3.x
Does V4 add any feature to stop theft of the cable?
Is this the meijer(s) one?
V3.5 and V4 look identical. V4 can manage up to 350 kW, but V3.5 is still limited to 250 kW. Therefore, this design doesnât represent only V4. Especialy In EU it's mostly V4 looking V3.5 units.
V4 dispenser with V3 cabinet

No....they don't All V4 chargers use V3 hardware on the backend which is not capable of outputting more than 500V This information is [coming from the lead Cybertruck engineer](https://x.com/wmorrill3/status/1820329310118625560) so even if my going around reading the labels of cabinets to make sure they're V3 cabinets isn't enough for you I feel like you can trust them.
I live in UK and these type chargers have the cable on the floor and broken button half the time.
Unpopular opinion, hate the new cords and connection. Seems cheaper
And the stall is centered in the parking spot as well. Thatâs exactly whatâs going on.
Why is the V4 so special? We got them at almost every supercharger here in the NetherlandsâŠ
I really like my Tesla Model 2. But Elon makes it hard to buy a new one. Hes such a fucking moron now.
I didnât see two⊠the picture is from a Supercharger station with 24 stalls. I looked closely at eight, and the others I saw from a distance appeared to be the same. Obviously canât talk about the stalls youâre using, for all we know theyâve revised some hardware. Or there are other differences. Just because my experience is different than yours doesnât make it invalid.
Damn. Have an upvote
Theyâre great for jumping through, like a real life game of Portal!
I wish they'd make side orientation so I could charge with a trailer.
Has anyone run across superchargers where some assclown decided to wipe peanut butter on it to mimic poop?
Used one in France đ«đ· last week
Thereâs been one at the buc-eeâs near me for a few months now and itâs been zero issues, works like normal, just longer cable
We have lots of V4âs round here. They have a very bad design for the cable holster meaning that 50% of the time you are picking it up, out of a puddle on the ground.
Playstation 5 plus
But this isn't a V4 charger, just a V4 stall. The back-end (charger) is still V3.
> The only reason for larger size I can think of is future enabled 450+kW charging. The chargers are not inside the stalls, they are in the cabinets off to the side.
But higher voltage
i hit a v4 recently, i was the only one there, and i was only getting about 450 mph right from the start
Why can't we all have nice things?
That is literally one of the reasons for that generation - easier 3rd party access - also they now are pre-equipped with a screen and a card reader to facilitate ad-hoc payment, which afaik isnt active yet.
Where in Michigan is this V4? Iâm also Michigan
Because they are filled with liquid?
Both V3 and V4 cables are liquid cooled and the V3 chargers are not affected.
I got almost 10,000 mi and have yet to use a supercharger. OP, what kinda kwh did you get?
Beautiful and Michigan in the same sentence is wrong. (Iâm from Michigan)
With a slow charging car... Man, what i would give if Tesla improved charging performance with an OTA Update
How much faster are these then regular sc?
even if you looked at the all 24 stalls, it's odd to say "all EU V4 chargers have an issue"
How surprising. I had that exact problem a few days ago. The button didn't open the charge port. I reported it and thought it was a broken button.
They took how many monthsđ
I wonder if the design is optimized for the NACS handle and the increased size of the CCS plug is causing issues at some stations in EU?
Automobiles other than Tesla can go charge somewhere else because if they didn't want to support Tesla by buying the car they can f... off to some crapy not working public charger in my opinion...
Thatâs the new charger by my house we have been waiting for it for two years
